I have purchased several movies on Bluray that came with a digital copy. I’ve tried several times to download these movies to my Tab, but I get an error every time. I’ve tried using Windows media player and I-tune with no luck. Anyone know how to get these movies to play on the Tab?
You most likely can't use those digital copies since they contain DRM that the Tab doesn't. What you can do is use the BR or DVD disc and just rip and covert to a Tab-friendly format. Handbrake works wonders for this. There's a thread in General about it.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Been googling for a while now with no luck. Wondering if there are any media players out there that will play .rmvb files?
Not keen on converting these as they are daily dramas releases. Was thinking it would be great if i could download them and watch them straight on the phone.
Thanks
the cowon s9 player can handle .avi formats and its not as powerful as the nexus one so i dont see why we can't make it work... can't be as simple as installing a codec on linux i guess
I found this media player which claims to support many different formats, including rmvb. But I haven't tried it myself. Please give it a try and report back.

http://rapidshare.com/files/338605125/Wuzhenhua.Player.apk.html
tested it with .mp4 and in landscape it crashes and soft resets my phone. tried it twice with same result.
EDIT: tested and it does play .rmvb in landscape but not fullscreen.
THanks
free rmvb player for Windows/PC
if you need a free rmvb player you can download one from link below
http:// www.iorgsoft.com/ RMVB-Converter/
this is for windows, if you have a Mac, doesn't matter, find one there
but the free rmvb player can only install on you rcomputer, rather than on your phone, so, the easiest way should be convert rmvb to your phone, hope this would be helpful.
download qqplayer.. although it has some chinese characters.. everything is in englsh and very easy to us.. no need to convert!!

This only allows you to control VLC on your PC, won't allow you to play anything on the phone.
Zune will convert 99% of the media it can't natively play and it will do it pretty quickly and with very good quality. At some point in the future we will most likely be able to copy/past files onto the device and use 3rd party video software.

\what about youtube files . flv files ?
youTube files .flv files, I suppose can't, as I usually download the YouTube videos with iFunia YouTube Converter and then it convert the flv files automaticly for me.
There are 2 players that normally can play many file type.
VLC player and Gomplayer, VLC is free~
here you can get: download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html
No dice as of now. Not possible without usb mass storage support, how else would you copy&paste the files over? The Zune software will only sync files it supports.
I'd say convert your .flv files to a common video format that every device can use, like .avi or .mp4 to name a few. I do it for my music videos downloaded from youtube. Those file formats should copy over easily. If not, zune will convert them effortlessly.

thank you all for the reply. but the hell if i am going to back to converting movies before playing them. gone those days when i wanted to put movies on my nokia phone because it couldnt play **** but mp4 or 3gp.
i think i will hold on for a while. plus the fact i cant purchase paid apps because i dont live in the US is a deal breaker too.
i guess i should wait for while. bummer, i really liked the browser and the interface a little of the device.
so .. any updates since then or still nothing yet ?
Nope I wish there was though. I travel a lot and take that time to watch movies and tv shows on my phone. I still have to carry around my TP2 while I travel now to enjoy my media. I completely agree that the days of conversion should be over now. I used to laugh at other devices that couldn't play xvid natively and now I'm in that boat .
I really hope this feature emerges either natively or through a 3rd party eventually.
this is why 3 people I know of traded back to android again. they thought they could just ftp over a movie fike (like on ios) and play it on the phone.
one of them actually said "so my phone.... can't. share a file..... with other PHONES?"
then the other guys shook their heads and continued moving music around between themslves. no computers, no chords, and no transcoding.
the one guy bought a galaxy tab along with a thunderbolt, and tried to craigslist his samsung.
all because there is no fole support. wow.
Semi-convenient workaround

After reading your post I decided to tinker a bit and found a semi-convenient workaround.
I tested downloading video releases for the iTouch and found that if I transfer them using the USB Device Enabler into the Storage\Video folder on my device choosing 'Don't convert just copy' when you transfer the video, then it shows up and plays back fine on the phone.
Obviously it would be ideal if i could playback any codec but for now this will do.
My thunderbolt will not play my converted mp4 h.264 files. My other android devices play them fine. I have tried several different conversions with different settings. Even tried mkv. I am using dvdfab which is the best. I have tried several players - rockplayer, arcmedia, and still nothing. Anyone having an issue like this?
what kind of error message are you getting?
try the rockplayer app from the market
Try MoboPlayer, seems to play everything https://market.android.com/details?id=com.clov4r.android.nil
No error message
No error message just blank screen, temporary freeze up, and some kick backs to main menu. Sounds like it is just me. Wonder if something is wrong with DVDfab or my phone.
I'm having the same troubles. I have older video ripped via an older version of DVDFab that work and play perfectly but since I updated to v8.0.8.5 I cannot get any of the new videos to play. I'm currently working with DVDFab support on figuring out what's going on and I'll be happy to relay any info I get on a solution.
Funny that you say that
I just tried to play my older converted DVDFab and they also worked - same format. The new ones do not work. They actually freeze up my phone or at least bog it down to the point where I have to reboot. Please let me know when you hear something on this. I am in the process of trying to convert with a different converter to make sure it is a dvdfab issue.
Download Handbrake. That will let you do a batch convert of the files that won't play. Both the AppleTV and iPhone presets work well with the TBolt. Handbrake will also convert DVD files ripped to the computer, so you can still use DVDFab to rip, but convert with Handbrake till DVDFab gets their issues sorted out.

I got the new rips working... I feel kinda dumb but I guess the new version defaults the audio to 5.1 and the stock player for Android as well as many of the other players will not accept a 5.1 audio file. All you need to do is set the audio to stereo. Here's a screen shot of the settings I use. I use a custom size of 800x480 and this can be selected by clicking on the button labeled video effect settings.
Im having that same problem my rock player doesnt work
There was literally a thread about this on the same page and in the same forum discussed today.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025491
I'm new to the world of Android having come across from the iPad and thought I'd try to stream from my home MAC to the Asus on the local network.
I installed Skifta and XBMC and managed to stream successfully (although 720p was incredibly stuttery).
Anyway, with the new update I started using myNet, but while I can send from the Asus to my Mac's XBMC I cannot send from the Mac to the Asus - the Asus thinks about playing, then stops. Anyone else managed this?
As a brief aside, should I be using something other than Skifta/XBMC? I tried Homepipe but it don't seem to stream, and there was no Mac server for Androstream as far as I could see.
Thanks!
Hi,
No-one tried this yet?
I've found the combination of UPNPlay and mobo player work great for streaming videos etc from my computer to the transformer. Both are free on the market. I've streamed 720p videos from my PC that worked perfectly using this method.

On a vaguely related note, I'm hoping that the developers of Mirage Beta (find it on the market) will soon release a version for tablets. This app uses the Air Video server (which works great on the ipad) to stream/transcode content on your phone/tablet. It works pretty well at the moment on my HTC Desire, but won't work on the tablet.
I tried this last night for the first time, and while mynet in theory works a treat, finds all the UPnP devices ont he network, finds all the findable folders and media (and vice versa, other machines on the network can see the TF101 perfectly), none of the files i can see will play on the Asus. The default player starts and instantly crashes on any video, music or photo file. I am going to replace the stock one with a couple from the market and see if that helps, although ironically the video stock player on my Archos 70 works a wonderfully over the network.
Ipcress, yup, that is what I'm seeing.
If I use Skifta instead of MyNet all works fine (except those dreaded high profile h.264s.....)
I'm using a combo of Tversity, UPnPlay and Moboplayer, AVI's work fine but no dice with MKV's.
I've heard MP4's work so maybe converting the MKV's to MP4's might work ?.
I got told off the other day for referring to mkv files when in fact they are just containers and pretty much anything could be inside. You have been warned!
Converting using Handbrake etc will work but it is a pain to have to do. Thats why I miss Airvideo and the on-the-fly conversion.
Apparently there is something called Mirage Beta (?) which is similar on Android, but is isn't available for tablets yet.
I was having similar problems, my TF can see the movies on my shared drive, but when i click them it cannot play them using the 'my net' app.
I have installed 'PLEX'
http://www.appbrain.com/app/plex-for...lexapp.android
(and the server on my PC.)
you use the server program and add the folders you want shared, then you use the app and you can stream lots more formats than the 'my net' app and you can specify the transfer speed/bandwidth etc.
the server app grabs meta data for the files you add from the net and adds DVD cover art to your movies as well.
I didnt need to do any port forwarding or anything complex with it installed on Windows 7 home premium, it just works.
It also says it will work over 3G/4G but I havent tried yet.
(ps. on a side note, the few iPhone formatted mp4 files i have on my shared network stream ok through 'my net' so the problem is probably file format related / codec related.)
I also went with Plex after trying several different apps that claimed to stream. Plex was the only product that I found that streamed in HD and the quality looks great! Best $5 I ever spent!
Only downside to Plex is that Im not too thrilled about the interface. It shows all your movies in a grid, I really wish there was an option to display just the list of movies. I have quite a few movies in my collection so loading up all the movie covers can take some time and makes scrolling slower than hell. If they let you sort just by list without cover art, I'm betting it would scroll a whole lot better.

im surprised you had trouble, tversity is supposed to downconvert if needed. Not tried them myself, but this is the same setup im using.
I just got my transformer with the new 3.2 HC and having trouble streaming videos from my PC to my Transformer. I've followed the direction on the manual and also downloaded Moboplayer (moboplayer not seeing the files on my PC). Did anyone find a way to get MyNet working correct??
I've found Mynet to be largely unreliable as there are too many formats that it wont play.
I've found a great combination that works really well, and you can play anything as the video is converted on the fly.
Movie Player: MX Player
This player is capable to playing 720p videos very well, and I found it to be faster than Moboplayer
UPNP Client: UPNPlay
this program is very easy to use and is used to fine the files
Server: PS3 Media Server
This server is freeware and works on Windows and Mac. All you need to do is to manually enter your IP address, and make sure you have your android's UPNP Client running before you start the server.
Is it possible to put movies downloaded from the zune market onto the TF? I have the files on my hard drive and have tried converting them from wmv to mp4, but when I go to transfer them the transfer either fails or the playback on the TF is scrambled and you can't hear anything. I have tried 3 different converter programs to no avail. Any suggestions?
You would have to rip the DRM off with wondershare or somthing similar. I think it's technically against the license agreement of Zune but in my opinion it's fair use. I'm trying to port over my zune marketplace songs without losing the playlist order and stuff lol. I have my collection sorted by date added and that goes away if I have to rip the DRM off
I've had much success with DVD Catalyst 4 before with many movie files for my NC and other devices. It's not free (and I have no vested interest in the app) but it works for me. I believe it's a trial also.
