My thunderbolt will not play my converted mp4 h.264 files. My other android devices play them fine. I have tried several different conversions with different settings. Even tried mkv. I am using dvdfab which is the best. I have tried several players - rockplayer, arcmedia, and still nothing. Anyone having an issue like this?
what kind of error message are you getting?
try the rockplayer app from the market
Try MoboPlayer, seems to play everything https://market.android.com/details?id=com.clov4r.android.nil
No error message
No error message just blank screen, temporary freeze up, and some kick backs to main menu. Sounds like it is just me. Wonder if something is wrong with DVDfab or my phone.
I'm having the same troubles. I have older video ripped via an older version of DVDFab that work and play perfectly but since I updated to v8.0.8.5 I cannot get any of the new videos to play. I'm currently working with DVDFab support on figuring out what's going on and I'll be happy to relay any info I get on a solution.
Funny that you say that
I just tried to play my older converted DVDFab and they also worked - same format. The new ones do not work. They actually freeze up my phone or at least bog it down to the point where I have to reboot. Please let me know when you hear something on this. I am in the process of trying to convert with a different converter to make sure it is a dvdfab issue.
Download Handbrake. That will let you do a batch convert of the files that won't play. Both the AppleTV and iPhone presets work well with the TBolt. Handbrake will also convert DVD files ripped to the computer, so you can still use DVDFab to rip, but convert with Handbrake till DVDFab gets their issues sorted out.

I got the new rips working... I feel kinda dumb but I guess the new version defaults the audio to 5.1 and the stock player for Android as well as many of the other players will not accept a 5.1 audio file. All you need to do is set the audio to stereo. Here's a screen shot of the settings I use. I use a custom size of 800x480 and this can be selected by clicking on the button labeled video effect settings.
Im having that same problem my rock player doesnt work
There was literally a thread about this on the same page and in the same forum discussed today.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025491

I did some searching, but all the posts appear to be older, and are discussing downloaded players. At work, we all have Droid Xs. My boss, recently reset his, and was working on downloading some video players. We download a lot of xvid files, and he wanted to be able to play them. Well, it appears one of his downloads has updated the built-in player to play xvid. The reason I think this is because after he dumped about 20 videos on there for transport, most...about 16 of them, had thumbnails in the gallery. I tried playing one, and loads directly up, and even has the little HDMI icon in the top corner. I went through the players he downloaded, and none of those appear to have the HDMI option. I've been trying to figure this out so that I can replicate it.
Has anyone else done this? I don't have the phone in front of me, but I know he got arcmedia and youplayer. I'm not sure what else, but I figure you guys may have some ideas.
I guess I've stumped the minds here. Thanks for looking.
UPDATE:
I just checked my phone, and now I'm able to playback one of the files. The strange part is that after seeing it happen on his phone, I copied the same file to mine, and couldn't play it. Gave the usual unsupported error. But today, I look at my phone, and there's a thumbnail of the video in the gallery. I click on it, and it starts playing, with the little HDMI option in the corner. WTF is going on here? I still have one file that won't play that I put on there. Does the built-in player support Xvid with certain options enabled/disabled?
I have been able to get both ORB and TVeristy to stream videos, music, pictures to my GTablet with very very good results. both have the strong points (Orb has a cleaner interface, but TVeristy has streams faster.
The secret is to setup each to use FLASH as the Stream encoder. This means you must install the FLASH APK (Search this site you will find links)
In TVeristy, you do this with
http://MyIpAddress:41952/flashlib
In Orb
You need to set the your skin to HOME THEATER. And your Streaming to FLASH.
No special Video player or other hacks needed. Should work on all MODS and well as STOCK.
In Cyanogen (Maybe in other mods), you have to click the Down Arrow the first time to Start-up FLASH.
The video quality is amazing even when tethered using my phone.
How is your luck with streaming ac3 encoded audio streams with video on tversity? I keep coming up with video and no sound. What codec pack are you using? What options did you pass to ffdshow? Tyia.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I did not do any special configuration or change any FFSHOW settings. The only thing I cannot stream is ripped RAW DVD files.
Im using tversity on my windows home server and was running into the no sound issue with flash. I went to tversity's site and saw that for tversity to stream sound using the flashlib, the streaming computer needs to have a soundbcard installed.
I would be hard pressed to find a home computer that does not have a sound card. But good to know. My motherboard (HP) has an integrated sound card and appears to work properly. Also, remember that with the CyanogenMod, you need to use the Headphone trick or the Headphone widget to get sound working after a re-boot.
Does any one know of how to have the browsers auto-Start the Flash player?
I use Dolphin HD and when you set it up set flash to Always by default its (on demand) if you already set it up and need to change it, its in the options menu of the browser.
I have integrated sound on my computer serving tversity. What I think the problem stems from is that it is trying to pass the Facebook audio along without reencoding it. I've been trying everything I can come up with for the week trying to get around the sound issue with no luck. What codec pack are you using?

Are you using the ORBLIVE app, or just using the web page?
Just the web Page. By setting it to HOME THEATER, it looks awesome. Give it a try
What do you mean "Home theater"?
I have been using the website to view.... my problem with the website is that it does not cache very well, and I get alot of pauses. AND... when it lags enough to lose the video, there is no skipping ahead, so you have to start from the beginning again. The App caches better and it easily skips ahead.

This only allows you to control VLC on your PC, won't allow you to play anything on the phone.
Zune will convert 99% of the media it can't natively play and it will do it pretty quickly and with very good quality. At some point in the future we will most likely be able to copy/past files onto the device and use 3rd party video software.

\what about youtube files . flv files ?
youTube files .flv files, I suppose can't, as I usually download the YouTube videos with iFunia YouTube Converter and then it convert the flv files automaticly for me.
There are 2 players that normally can play many file type.
VLC player and Gomplayer, VLC is free~
here you can get: download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html
No dice as of now. Not possible without usb mass storage support, how else would you copy&paste the files over? The Zune software will only sync files it supports.
I'd say convert your .flv files to a common video format that every device can use, like .avi or .mp4 to name a few. I do it for my music videos downloaded from youtube. Those file formats should copy over easily. If not, zune will convert them effortlessly.

thank you all for the reply. but the hell if i am going to back to converting movies before playing them. gone those days when i wanted to put movies on my nokia phone because it couldnt play **** but mp4 or 3gp.
i think i will hold on for a while. plus the fact i cant purchase paid apps because i dont live in the US is a deal breaker too.
i guess i should wait for while. bummer, i really liked the browser and the interface a little of the device.
so .. any updates since then or still nothing yet ?
Nope I wish there was though. I travel a lot and take that time to watch movies and tv shows on my phone. I still have to carry around my TP2 while I travel now to enjoy my media. I completely agree that the days of conversion should be over now. I used to laugh at other devices that couldn't play xvid natively and now I'm in that boat .
I really hope this feature emerges either natively or through a 3rd party eventually.
this is why 3 people I know of traded back to android again. they thought they could just ftp over a movie fike (like on ios) and play it on the phone.
one of them actually said "so my phone.... can't. share a file..... with other PHONES?"
then the other guys shook their heads and continued moving music around between themslves. no computers, no chords, and no transcoding.
the one guy bought a galaxy tab along with a thunderbolt, and tried to craigslist his samsung.
all because there is no fole support. wow.

After reading your post I decided to tinker a bit and found a semi-convenient workaround.
I tested downloading video releases for the iTouch and found that if I transfer them using the USB Device Enabler into the Storage\Video folder on my device choosing 'Don't convert just copy' when you transfer the video, then it shows up and plays back fine on the phone.
Obviously it would be ideal if i could playback any codec but for now this will do.
Hi guys,
just got a HP touchpad. now is there a video player on here? and if its there what format do they have to be in to view it. have tried a couple of different ones and cant get them up.
Is there a player app i can download onto it at all ?
thanks
there is a photos & videos app built in, but it's pretty poor for video.
you need to add your video files to the root of the built in storage (the tablet installs onto your computer as a removable drive).
i still haven't got my head around the video file support just yet, but it doesn't seem to handle .avi, divx, xvid etc.
mp4 seems to be the main format.
there are a couple of apps for streaming videos from a upnp media server, but nothing free as far as i can tell.
kalemsoft media player seems to be the best of these as it lets you load video files from the local storage on your tablet as well as browse for remote stuff.
i have successfully played an avi file using this app.
i've only tried the demo version so far which requires internet access in order to assess the trial period.
i don't particularly want to purchase the paid version just yet.
I used Handbrake and followed the instructions here: http://forums.precentral.net/hp-tou...n-resources/287212-handbrake-preset-dvds.html I just tried a short 45 minute kids dvd to see if it would work okay. It was about a 400mb file. Placed it in a folder called Videos on the root of the usb partition and it shows up fine in the Photos and Videos app.

see i tried doing that as well. creating a folder called videos on the root and it wasn't detected.
only when i added the file direct to root could i access it.
are directory names case sensitive?
a video player that allows you to browse and/or add directories would be much better.
EDIT: looks like i had a folder called video. changed it to videos and it shows up.
strangely enough kalemsoft creates a folder recordings. when i added a video file to that, it also showed up.
I have put my videos in the download folder and they show up in the stock player fine. Also converted DIVX avi files to MP4 with Handbrake. Used the ipad HD settings for nice quality.
Kalemsoft Media Player wil read a lot of video formats , you can find it on app catalog.
The kalemsof that i downloaded isnt displaying in full screen and sometimes will hang on my TP. Guess its still not compatible to TP yet?

Thanx for the tip about Handbrake, nunja. I'll try it for conversions. I concur with the settings...
I'm on a Pre 2 and have no problems with mp4 playing (once you get the settings down it becomes rote). For my phone I use iPod settings...
For ripping from DVD I use DVDFab3 - I know there are way newer versions out there and I tried them but always go back to version 3. I just like the UI and it has never let me down. Point it at a DVD or ISO and under Mobile click Generic. You can configure it for generic mp4 and get a resolution up to 848x480 which should be alright on the TP screen. Your settings like Resolution, bitrate, volume level, subpicture - can all be saved as a profile.
DVDFab3 in a .rar file. Just extract and it will run out of the folder without install...
Hi all
Just thought i would share my findings.
I am using MX Video Player as my video player.
I use Mizzu Movies as the front end for it - it really is very very nice and will auto get information, reviews, trailers etc etc for movies.
To convert my Blu Ray mkv files, DVD rips or pretty much anything i use DVD Catalyst on Windows 7 PC
I use the asus transformer HQ settings and select partial border removal.
Using all the above results in very nice looking movies with flawless playback.
I travel abroad quite a lot and everyone who see's me using the Asus for movies on the plane is very interested in what i have.
For Blu-rays I've found DVD Catalyst 4 to be inadequate because of sync issues. I've also read that by turning off Blu-ray Telecine will correct this issue but it doesn't. So, I had to look at other software to rip and convert my Blu-rays. Also DVD Catalyst 4 set my Kaspersky Antivirus Heuristic virus detection off and said it was performing in a way similar to a virus or trojan.
I've found that Aiseesoft Blu-ray Ripper works really well and is my favorite. It has video acceleration and will utilize you're AMD (app acceleration) or a NVidia video card with (Cuda technology). It's normally $39 but you can get it HERE for $23.40 with the coupon code 'SMRT-ADEK'. HERE is a guide as to what settings to use for the TF. It tends to make my videos a little less in size than Pavtube does. i.e., Aieesoft Blu-ray Ripper will create a file say 2.5gb in size while Pavtube is a little higher. Also, since I have an AMD/ATI video card it will accelerate the ripping process to nearly half the time as Pavtube due to the fact that Pavtube doesn't support AMD/ATI acceleration, just NVidia Cuda technology. Also, Aieesoft Blu-ray Ripper will automatically preserve forced subtitles while Pavtube you have to actually check ON a tick box for it to pick up forced subtitles. Also it has a video preview while ripping while Pavtube does not. Incidentally you can turn this feature on or off, whichever you prefer.
Another great software would be Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate which runs $65 but you can get it for $37.70 HERE with coupon code 'SOFT-K8TT'. It makes flawless videos for the TF using the XOOM settings. HERE is a guide on how. It has video acceleration just for NVidia video card. It will also let you select not only different subtitles but allows for 'Only allow forced subtitles'.
Incidentally, both rippers have built in AACS ripper technology and can even rip the new AACS-24 copy protection which is the newest copy protection format. So there is no need to also run AnyDVD HD in the background while you rip to be able to rip. A huge plus in my book.
I use either Dice Player or MX Video to play my movies in HW acceleration mode.
This is the Pavtube settings. Right click on the picture and 'Save As' to download a short single chapter MP4 file to test on your TF.
This is the Aieesoft settings. Right click on the picture and 'Save As' to download a short single chapter MP4 file to test on your TF.
cheers...
EDIT: Please read further into this thread as things have changed drastically. Thanks
I use the extremely convenient VidsOpt script for reencoding and remuxing x264/MKV. I tried out some other ripping tools like DVD Catalyst and XviD4PSP but they were cumbersome and too heavy on my system (only 2.8GHz P4/1GB RAM). After this step, there is really no reason not to use the stock player since MP4 files can be HW decoded (video and audio). If I am watching something with subtitles or the occasional XviD I will use MX Video.

What Sync issues are you referring to AcidCore? I am aware of audio sync issues if you play the created video files on a PC using Windows Media Player, but this is due to some codec-issues with WMP itself. This is also mentioned in numerous locations on my website. For device playback as well as playback using Quicktime or VLC, the files should play just fine.
As for the Kaspersky, it doesn't like it when an app is running the conversion as a separate process. I have tried to work with them, but it is easier for them to mark something than to actually unmark something. DVD Catalyst is clean.
As for the links you provided, those articles are loaded with affiliate-links, meaning that those articles are mainly written to lure people into a purchase so that the guy who wrote them gets about 50% of the purchase price for the sale.

Actually, when I ripped the movie Wanted it played just fine on WMP but on both Dice and MX the audio was out of sync with the video. I felt like I was watching a dubbed movie or something. I tried three different settings with Catalyst and I got the same thing. Also when I ripped the movie Apocalypto which the whole movie is subtitled and Catalyst overwrote the subs with some kind of font that looked like it had some type of halo effect to it. I had to enable the Booster Pack 2 in order for it to pick up the subs at all. All other movies seemed OK though.

Did you try the stock player?
The files dvdcat creates are optimized for hardware playback on the Tegra2. While MX and Dice can play a lot more video file types, their settings can get in the way of how the file plays. Using the stock player the videos should play just fine.

What did you convert?
from Bluray using dvdcat's Bluray mode or using file-mode (just the m2ts file directly)
Besides the settings you mentioned, you also mentioned the telicine option. Are there any other settings in "Global" that you enabled?
Try resetting DVD Catalyst to its defaults:
* Make sure DVD Catalyst is not running
* Click on "START" > "RUN" (or hold down the windows-key on your keyboard and tap the "R" key)
* In the run dialog, type in:
%appdata%
and click OK
*delete the "DVD Catalyst 4" folder
After that, start dvdcat, and if you want to convert Bluray (icw AnyDVD HD or something similar), enable power user, and enable the checkmark in the Bluray tab in Global Settings.
Then just select your profile, and leave the rest of the settings as they are.
so far i have tried about 5 different methods to convert to mp4 from mkv etc
I have used dvdcat to convert about 10 movies so far and have not run into sync problems.
I have left most things on default so dont find it cumbersome at all, in fact I found it a lot easier to use than most others, i do have a quadcore 4gb windows 7 64bit system though so runs pretty fast. I use eset nod32 smart security which is a superior product to kaspersky without false positives.
I will also play around with more options in time.
Nice to see some alternative methods here though which I will also try.
Any other methods guys?

I have to say that by taking your advice and setting things back to default that the Blu-ray rip came out perfect. It even came out smaller in size and the cropping was perfect. While most of my movies play in letterbox (black bars above and below the picture) that after ripping with DVD Catalyst and then playing in MX Video that I had no letterboxing. It played full screen. Stock video player and Dice Player both still played it in letterbox. The video setting was defaulted to 1280x720 and the video formatted out to 1280x544. There was no sync issues any more. Time to rip the movie Wanted using Aieesoft Blu-ray Ripper took a little over 2 hours and the time it took DVD Catalyst to rip the same movie was just over 40 minutes. Impressive to say the least.
Video player : Built-in video player
Encoder : FFMPEG (git-latest) command line. transcoding to playable MP4 format.
I just changed my dvdcat setup to just removing black bars from the video file instead of remove partial borders and quality is now better.
Removing partial borders lowered the resolution to 1072 x 512

I always use "remove from file" (the default) myself. The other ones cut off part of the video to get more screenfill. If you use a video player other than the stock, you can usually zoom the video anyway if you want full-screen.
I've been re-transcoding my movies using DVD Cat and while the movie Underworld "Evolution" ripped perfectly using default settings Underworld did not. It's defaulted to just removing the black bars but it shoved the video to the left and it was severely cut off on the left. I looked all through the settings and couldn't find anything to fix this. Although when I went to 'Preview' the setting was defaulted to 1.33:1 and the first little picture with the borders was selected. I had to put it down to 1.35:1 movie default and choose the second little picture without the borders. Strange; as it made it 1280x405, so it was constrained but it fit and had no borders on the TF.
Needless to say, DVD Cat is going to take some trial and error to figure it all out.
Underworld is a bit tricky because it is so dark.
In Global > Borders, you can increase the scan-point count, which should eliminate the issue you experienced. It is quite rare, but its tied to the way DVD Cat actually detects borders on movies. Rather than using fixed values, it takes screenshots of the movie at 5 (default) points, and then looks for the actual borders.

I remember seeing that. It's set at 5 right now. Is that a setting under the borders tab that's selectable or is it always on? I'm at work so I can't look at the software at the moment.
its defaulted at 5, but you can change it to something like 7 or 8.
I've only ran into the issue 3 times.
twice with episodes of 24, where the shots were taken during the time-display part, and Underworld 1
So what setting do you recommend; 7 or 8? I guess I'll just have to tinker with it when I get home. What is your final file dimmensions on Underworld 1 after transcoding with DVD Cat?
