[Q][TASKER] Several Questions - Android Apps and Games

I have a few questions.
I tried to make my own Juice Defender replacement:
Data Check -
Contexts:
Time
From 6:30
every 15 min
To 01:00
Power
Any
Inverted
Tasks:
Stop
if %SCREEN ~ ON
Stop
if %CELLSIG < 1
Mobile Data
On
Auto-Sync
On
Wait
2 min
Auto-Sync
Off
Mobile Data
Off
For some reason I can't set an end task, but I think I got around it. What this should do is when my screen is off and I have service it should check for any sort of notifications (facebook, mail), correct? Also, will I still get texts and calls instantly or does Mobile Data include these?

you shouldn't use the wait there as while tasker is waiting those 2 min nothing else can run.
I posted my tasks for this in another thread recently: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11097712&postcount=14

Is there anything else I can use instead of wait? I don't really want to make 4 profiles. Also I tried doing something else and it's not working. I attempted to make a Night Mode, however it doesn't turn on:
Nightenable:
Contexts:
From 1:00 Till 6:29
Tasks:
Variable Set %NIGHT, 1
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Night Mode:
Contexts:
Variable Set %NIGHT, 1
Tasks:
Lower Volume, etc.

why don't you want to use 4 tasks? That's the most ellegant way to do it
for the night mode don't set the variable but set the stuff you want straight away

I would do it in one task except I also have this:
Power Mode:
Contexts:
Power On
Tasks: (Menu)
(Night Mode) Variable Set %NIGHT, 1
(Normal Mode) Variable Set %NIGHT, 0

Use Tasker to toggle 3G for better battery life

I have been using Tasker the last couple of days and I am really started to like this app. I havent even scratched the surface of what this app is capable of but it would be nice to have a thread for all Tasker users to share the Profiles.
I currently have mine setup to shut off 3G when the screen is off and turn it back on when the screen is on. Its been working great. I got home today from work and was at 70% battery life after 10 hrs of light usage throughout the day.
So far I have
GPS Auto on and off when I open maps
Display off / data off
Display on / data on
Home area wifi auto enable
Battery full alert
NightSMSResponder
Missed call Auto reply
Call recorder
Screen off / Data off: do you still receive emails and mms?
Best app out!
I've been using this app for awhile as well... I've been able to fully automate the processes that I had to remember to do to conserve battery.
This is my setup.
1.At Girlfriend's house - GPS off, auto brightness on, notifications silenced and from 3am - 7am text messages are set to auto reply and calls sent to voicemail.
2.Headphones plugged - Load music app, adjust media volume, and turn screen off after 30 seconds.
3.Any power connected (USB or AC) - Key lock off
4.If USB plugged and file explore (Astro, ES) loaded, mount SD
5.Maps,Navigation loaded - GPS on, Auto Brightness on, System vol to max
Just some basic profiles.
I'm still in the trial period, do I have to purchase to be able to import the download-able profiles from the step through section of the site?

I was able to download profiles while in the trial period. The only problem I had was downloading profiles that had multiple downloads. What version are you using? I am using 1.0.8b2 but I see that b3 is available now.

No I do not. I can set it up so that data will toggle on and off every 5,10,15 minutes or whatever you want it set it.
I would like to figure out a way to have tasker enter my passcode that is required with my exchange lock since lockpicker does not work with Froyo

I was trying to set that up last night but it was telling me to install APNdroid for it to turn the data off. APNdroid states on their market page that it doesn't work with CDMA, so I have to ask, how did you manage to have Tasker turn data on and off ?

If you install the latest beta version it will toggle data without using APNdroid. I do not have it installed and it works fine.

Try copying what I have showing here just to see if data is toggling. I set the delay for data on so that I could actually see the data come on. I didnt believe it was working either until I put the delay in there.

My battery life has been noticeably better.
Ya know I tried this earlier after seeing this post and it got a little annoying to figure out, I honestly have been using a program called overclock widget and it has increased my battery by at least double.... and I am running stock rooted with Sprint bloatware removed
I have it setup to turn data off when the screen is off and data on when the screen is on. How can you make it toggle data on and off when the screen is off so you can still get email and stuff?

[GUIDE] Tasker

Tasker is a very powerful program for Android devices that lets users have complete control over the automation of their phones.
I have seen a lot of fragmented threads about different profiles and requests for help. So I have decided to make a thread to collect profiles and advice for people from different devices to use (hopefully in an easy to understand English!). Also, I'm not a huge Tasker wiz! I just hope that everyone can contribute in one place for everyone at xda. So please send me/the contributor a PM if you see a post that is wrong.

I do not have ownership (whole or part thereof) of the Tasker Android Application. This guide is for educational purposes only. I, or any contributor to the guide, is not responsible for any faults (software or hardware) resulting from following the instructions set out in this guide.
Tasker is available from the Android Market or in trial form from the website

Absolute Beginners:
If you are completely new to Tasker, you need to check out the Tasker website and wiki.
The program may seem unwieldy and complicated at first for those who do not have programming experience - I certainly found it a little intimidating at first - but once you play around with it, it helps a lot. The guides on the wiki and on the website are a little confusing, so hopefully this thread will help decode some of the settings/profiles into plain English.
The wiki is worth checking out for the walkthroughs and downloadable profiles - so take your time to check it out!
duckredbeard has also pointed out that there is a google group for Tasker which is supported by the developer himself. So if you need some trouble shooting, check that out too.
Turning GPS on only for GPS apps and then turning them off again
Automagically switching wifi on and off
...slowly building more. post to contribute!
Here are some basics that every beginner needs to know (or if you just need reminding).
Profile:
Not much explanation needed. A profile contains all the required settings for a particular purpose - it is usually recommended that you give your profile a name that makes sense (e.g.: "Wifi at home" for turning on/off your wifi when you are near your house). A profile has:
Contexts
Tasks
Exit Tasks (not always)
Contexts:
A Context is basically an on/off switch for your Tasker profile - something that tells Tasker that a certain thing has happened/is happening and so Tasker should do something about it. When you tap "new" in Tasker and have given your profile a name, you will be given some choices for your Context. A Context can be:
Application (profile is activated by the opening of an app)
Time (this can be through a time interval or a set time frame)
Day (profile activation based on which day/month you are on)
Location
State (of your phone)
Event (something that has happened to the phone)
Tasks:
Once your profile has been triggered by your Context, you want it to do something - this can be switching on Wifi, or locking your phone, or turning on the GPS, launch an application, etc. You have amazing control over what your phone does! You will need to explore the different options in order to understand the kind of control you have.
Exit Tasks:
An exit task tells Tasker what to do once your Context is no longer true (e.g.: you are no longer near your wifi network). You can tell Tasker to switch things back on that you might have turned off (or vice versa). You do not need to have an exit task, but sometimes it is useful. You CANNOT have an Exit Task if your Context is an Event.
Monitoring your context:
Some contexts (like "Location") require Tasker to recognise when it is in a certain area or not - this is how Tasker does it.
To find a wifi network using the "Wifi-Near" context, Tasker switches on your wifi briefly (specified in "Menu -> Preferences -> Monitor -> Wifi Timeout Seconds") and scans the wifi networks available. After the specified amount of seconds has passed, Tasker will then switch off the Wifi scanning. Tasker begins scanning for wifi networks again after another time interval (specified in "Menu -> Preferences -> Monitor -> Wifi Scan Seconds"). Obviously the more you scan the more battery you use, but also the more responsive Tasker will be. And obviously the shorter amount of time you spend scanning for networks, the more battery you save, but you also have a lower chance of connecting to a network. Tasker can only do this wifi-scanning if you have set your Wifi to [TOGGLE] or [ON] - it will not do it if you have set your Wifi to [OFF].
GPS is a much more accurate way to find your location, but obviously much more battery intensive. Settings are much the same as the Wifi ones and are found in "Menu -> Preferences -> Monitor". Tasker can only update your GPS location if you have set your GPS to [TOGGLE] or [ON] - it will not do it if you have set your GPS to [OFF].
Network Location is the least battery intensive, but also the least accurate. Tasker checks your network location according to the time specified in "Menu -> Preferences -> Monitor -> Network Location Check Seconds".
...more to come.
--just in case--
Using GPS only when needed:
In normal use, apps like Weather, Places, Latitude, etc, only need to know which suburb/cell tower you are using. If you have your GPS switched on, then it becomes a huge waste of battery. Here is how to set it so that your GPS switches on when you use a GPS app, and then to switch it off again when you exit that app.
Profile: "GPS on"
Context:
Application
Google Maps
Locations
Navigation
...etc
Tasks:
GPS [ON]
Exit Tasks:
GPS [OFF]
Automagically switching wifi on and off
The Easy Way:
Profile: "Wifi at home"
Context:
- Wifi-Near [(Set as your work/home/school/etc SSID and MAC address - do this by long-pressing on the dialog box for Tasker to scan for you)]
Tasks:
- Wifi [ON]
Exit Tasks:
- Wifi [OFF]
This method has Tasker checking for your wifi network according to the settings you placed in:
"(Tasker Home Screen) Menu -> Preferences -> Monitor"
However, this theoretically leads to more battery usage because Tasker is always checking for your wifi network even when you are nowhere near your wifi network. You could always have it check your location using your GPS, but this is even worse for your battery. A way to reduce this battery drain is to lower your "Wifi/GPS Timeout" setting and increase your "Wifi/GPS Scan" setting. This will cause Tasker to check for wifi networks/GPS location for a smaller duration and less frequently - the downside is that Tasker will be less responsive when you enter into your wifi network (eg: if you set Tasker to check once every 10 minutes, then you might have to wait 10 minutes before Tasker kicks this profile into gear)
Slightly more complicated way:
This requires 2 profiles.
Profile 1: "Home"
Contexts:
- Cell Near [(press 'scan' to let Tasker find out what cell towers are near you)]
Tasks:
- Set variable "%HOME" = [1] (this is a variable i defined myself)
- Wifi [TOGGLE]
Exit Tasks:
- Set variable "&HOME" = [0]
- Wifi [OFF]
Profile 2: "Wifi at home"
Contexts:
- Variable "%HOME" matches [1]
- Wifi-Near [(SSID of home/work/school/etc)]
Tasks:
- Wifi [ON]
- Mobile Data [OFF]
- Mobile APN Enabled [OFF]
Exit Tasks:
- Wifi [TOGGLE]
- Mobile Data [ON]
- Mobile APN Enabled [ON]
(you can also enable Auto-Sync if you wish)
Explanation:
This method can theoretically save battery and increase the responsiveness of Tasker. It does it by only enabling the Wifi-scanning when you are within a certain cell-tower(s) area. Since checking for your location via the mobile network does not require much battery (and also since your phone is automatically doing it for your weather app anyway), you can set your Network Scan time to something quite low (I have it at 15 seconds). Once you are in the general area, then Tasker begins to look for your wifi network. Because you are not always searching for the wifi network, you can increase the frequency of the searches and also increase the duration of the search.
This does require a bit of testing - I find that it works quite well, but that could just be my area. Have a go and see what you find.

It will be nice to use this thread as a helpful discussion area on programming tasker as their does not to be such a place on the tasker wiki site.
Maybe you can help to achieve this state.
Is it possible to have several IF variables?
Ie.
Between hours 21:00 - :06:30 Reduce phone ringer to 2
If Location (network operator) = Home
and Power is connected
and phone has been idle for 30mins.
I have been playing with Tasker but having no programing experience it is difficult for my brain to wrap around how I would achieve this.
any hints?

yeah, I'm aware of the wiki - but the wiki doesn't answer all the questions and I feel it isn't organised very well (not that this would be organised any better). Plus, a forum opens things up to discussion and sharing, which I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate. feel free to contribute!

I believe that if you put all of those 'variables' into one profile and make them all contexts, then you would be able to do that. But don't forget to set your task priorities properly!
Have you tried:
Code:
Profile: (profile name)
Contexts:
- Time [21:00-06:30]
- Wifi-Near [(your home SSID)] (also see my post about how to reduce wifi-searching to increase battery life)
- Power [Any/AC/USB]
Tasks:
- Ringer Volume [Level 2, (Sound, Display if you want as well - good for debug)]
Exit Tasks:
- Ringer Volume [(whatever you like your volume level to be at)]
I am not sure how to do your "Phone Idle" condition as I have never had to use it before - I suppose that you could always set another 2 profiles:
1 to countdown to 30 minutes which then sets a variable (say, "Timer") equal to 1 and has a context that tells it to run the profile every time "Timer" = 0; the other profile would have set "Timer" = 0 every time the Display turned on. You could then add a "Timer [matches 1]" context to your original profile, and that should work.
This seems like a rather roundabout way to do it, but that's what I can think of at this time. Let me know if you would like me to post up the instructions to do that though.
If anyone else has a better idea, let me know!
I think when using tasker (particularly with lots of profiles) It is important to keep things as simple and clean as possible. Otherwise if certain tasks start becoming too dependant on other tasks it will either reduce your ability to program new tasks or Things will start going pear shaped.
For Example. If I were to program the phone with Wifi-Near to Enter silent mode It will affect any other Tasks I have going with the Wifi, Either it being Turn wifi Off Or stop searching or Even If My network goes down. I think (if possible) it would be better to use a different more non varried method of location if you know what I mean. I think it would go for any other tasks you would want to program as well. Keep things simple and very direct, It will also help you too trace back and find problems if needed later down the track as well.

whilst it is good to try and keep things simple, sometimes more complex profiles lead to more efficient use of battery. Or sometimes a simple task may need certain exceptions so that it fits around our lives. Remember that Tasker should be making our phones do what we want, how we want it - we want to try and avoid the "i'll get used to it" line as much as possible.
When using complex profiles (or even profiles that may end up conflicting each other), the use of priorities for your task is very important. For example - when my "wifi at home" profile gets switched off, it turns my wifi onto [TOGGLE]. BUT if I leave the cell-tower area near my house at the same time, it tells it to turn wifi onto [OFF]. Since these are conflicting tasks, I have given my wifi [OFF] a higher priority than [TOGGLE], and so Tasker does what I want. As with any programming, sometimes convolution is unavoiable - in those instances make sure that you keep your line of logic clear (some people like to use flowcharts for programming, but i think that's a bit excessive for Tasker - each to their own though!)

The Exit Task is unneeded. For all On/Off toggles, Tasker returns them to their original state on exit automatically.

As far as I know, your phone will automatically switch off your wifi when you have your screen off (unless you installed a mod/app that forces it to stay open). I believe that Tasker (by default) will switch it off unless you have put wifi to [TOGGLE]. However, if you wanted to be completely sure, you can always use variables.
ie: you can make a profile that sets a variable (say, "WifiON") to 1. and then when you make a "screen on" event profile, make it Wifi [ON] IF WifiON [matches 1].

I haven't found it on Tasker - but then, I don't really know Tasker as well as some other people here. You could always try to use the launching of the Music app as a context, or use the headphones plugged in event as a context?
If you haven't been to the google group for tasker, you should go NOW. It is moderated by the developer himself. He answers questions every day, including updates on what to expect on the next version. There are dozens of users on that group that can and will help you with the infinite number of things Tasker can do for you.
Head over to http://groups.google.com/group/tasker/topics?gvc=2 and read a few pages. It is likely that your questions have already been answered.

what is your device? I have seen improved battery life with my HTC Desire Z - I usually only had about 30-40% battery at the end of the day with light texting, some calls and web surfing. Now i have about 60%! Although that's not completely Tasker - I do have SetCPU to underclock during screen off times.
Did you turn the mobile data back off?
Yep, had it to turn off mobile data and then enable wifi when I close the news app.
(I usually keep wifi on 24-7 if Im at home that day).
I say it took about 25% of my battery because I usually get 36 hours with everything on (except BT) and with tasker going I only got slightly over 24hours... (maybe like 26 or 28?)
Its a HTC Hero btw. Maybe ive just tuned it so that its at its optimum battery for me and my situation? I just think its weird that whenever I use Tasker within the next 2 days the battery has dived down to 20 something hours from around 35+

One of my more useful ones is a set of Bluetooth controls. It has 3 core profiles and any number of time profiles that will turn Bluetooth on at a specified time and disable it after so many minutes with a few different conditions to handle active connections and such. Would anyone be able to create a tasker profile to disable the LED notification during certain hours (for TouchWiz)? Example, turn off all LED notifications at 11pm, turn back on at 7am.

Try these out. The Disable Sync at night has the time component and prevents email and other Google sync items from being sync during that time frame (I have to leave my phone off silent for On-Call pages, but hate getting email notifications and such at 2am). With the below, from 11:30pm to 6:20am Sync is disabled. As a result, any notifications that do come in will trigger the other two profiles to get ride of the notification light. On handles the initial notification received the other turns the light back off if you turn the screen on the off again (normally the notification is reset and it would flash if we didn't add this extra step. The two that issue commands require Root. It would be best to manually run them once to ensure Tasker has the permissions it needs.
If you don't want sync disabled, then change the profile Active attribute in 'Disable Notify Light @night' to a Time range. Hope this helps.

Will try this out tonight, really appreciate your help and quick response!
Thanks for those great profiles, ViperRacer. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a quick question. You don't need to go to the time to make one out if you don't want to, but I've been trying to make a profile to disable the lock screen when I'm at home. I have it set to disable when I'm on my Wi-Fi, but it only seems to work 50% of the time. It'll be off for a while, then randomly turn on again. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks again!

I'd be curious to know what your Advanced Wi-Fi Settings were, specifically the 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep'. If it is set to 'Never' or 'Only when plugged in' it will turn off the Wi-Fi at some point while the phone screen is off, thus causing the tasker profile to stop running until the phone is woken up again which would happen second to you turning on the phone and being presented with the unwanted lock screen.
I would suggest setting that option to 'Always' and see if it yields better results.

I tried the profiles last night and unfortunately it didn't work. The auto-sync didn't shut off and the LED notification stayed on. I did run it manually to allow root so I don't think that was the issue. Any idea why it didn't work?

That's rather strange. The disable auto sync is one of the simpler profiles and should have worked. I hate to ask, but is the profile enabled (green check mark)? All three should be enabled at all times. Try modifying the profile and set the time range to be something that would force it to activate now and plug it into a power source. If you don't want the power source requirement (which is another possibility) just remove that context. I personally keep it in case I'm out late with friends so I continue to get email even if it is past the hour.

I also ran this last night.
In order for the profile to kick in it needs to be during the time specified and plugged in.
Once I plugged in my phone my sync turned off.
My red battery charge light did come on. Not sure if this stayed on the whole time or not. Later at night when I woke up I did not see the green charged light on.
At the specified time in the morning, while still plugged in my sync turned back on and I received my email messages.
So for me this worked well, but I will need to check to see why the red light stayed on. I would have expected the profile to kill this light too.
Thanks for these profiles they worked pretty good for me.

I had turned my charging light off within the first day of getting the phone so I've never actually tested that part. I would take a guess that there is no notification occurring, thus the profile isn't triggered killing the LED for charging. The Green LED is killed because we do get a notification in the bar for a full charge. One solution is to maybe add another couple of tasks in the Disable Sync At Night profile that waits for 10 seconds and then issue the command there to kill off that light. But thats only a guess. I'll play around with it and see if that would fix it.
Update:
I tested out this and it worked. Screen was off and within 10 seconds the led was shutoff.

3.) Run Shell - Command echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/sec/led/led_pattern Use Root
This will take care of the initial red charging light. As a note, the light in theory would come back if the screen was turned back on and off but the other profile triggered at display off will handle that condition. Adjust the 10 second wait as needed if your screen timeout is longer. May not be much of an issue though as the other profile should kick in in the event the screen stays on long enough.

Doh! I was testing it without it being plugged in. I bet that was the problem, thanks I'll adjust to remove that feature and see if it works.

Thanks, this information helped me to find a solution that works for me.
I added the Wait 10 seconds to the task Notify Light Off.
Added Notify Light Off task to the Disable Sync At Night profile
Changed profile Disable Notify Light, change the Profile Active to Disable Sync At Night (if I did not do this if I turn on the screen then back off again the light would stay on)
I think this is working perfectly for me now. Thanks again.
I have these (no order) I can think of:
1. power plug: turn keyguard off, keep screen on
2. wifi off at 10:30 pm in case I forget to turn it off (battery savings)
3. sync off 10:30-6am so I do not get emails and such while I sleep
4. on sunday's from 9-10:15 it mutes the phone while I am in church
5. from 11:45pm until 5:30am it goes into airplane mode (battery savings)
6. when Navi app is run, GPS is turned on, screen brightness is turned up, keyguard is turned off, screen stays on
7. BT turns off at 9pm (battery savings)
8. whenever BT initially syncs, a tone is played to tell me the phone is connected and ready
Hmm, that keep Wi-Fi on during sleep option didn't seem to help. Not sure what else it would be. Thanks for trying anyways!

There is a little known bug/feature of the S3. I found and saved this tip a while back. Needs to be done every time you reboot though.
WiFi Powersave
Using the phone dialer, dial *#0011# then press the menu key, then from the popup menu, select WiFi. You will see a button to turn off the power save mode. It will stay off until the phone is restarted, and this should allow control by Tasker to be more consistent. Press the back button repeatedly to get out of these screens.
Thanks for tips I was wondering why I couldn't get the lock screen profiles to work either. What if they were tied to cell towers near home?

My lock screen has randomly appeard on me as well.
Profiles:
Wi-fi on when in range of certain towers
lock screen off when connected to router
I seem to get the random unexpected lock screens after a rebooting, and thought I had it narrowed down to cycling tasker on and off a few times. I just started using tasker a couple days ago, will keep tinkering with it, let me know if this helps you at all.
I just started using tasker and I'm trying to create a (what should be) very simple profile.
I want to have my display brightness normally set to 36% on battery and 75% when plugged in.
It works very well, except that if I reboot my phone while plugged in, it will not go back down in brightness once i unplug it.
I simply set a "task" to set the brighness at level 165 when power source is AC. I don't see a selection for battery, just "any, AC or USB".
How do I get it to check if it's not plugged in to set the display brighness?

Try using the Invert option with Both AC/USB. It should fire when power is not provided by either of those sources.

Tasker Profiles

What's your favorite Tasker profile?
Mine are
1. wifi auto off and on depending on which cell tower I'm connected to.
2.automatic screen shade depending on light sensor % bye bye screen filter.
3. media selection popup upon headphone plug in.
4.pocket mode phone screen off and vibrate on when phone put in to pocket headphone jack first.
Feel free to share ideas I just started using it my self and don't know much.
Here is a good read :

Then in tasker long press profiles tab and then import.

1. Silence notifications while I'm sleeping
2. Max volume & brightness when in car dock
3. Auto volume setting when plugging in headphones
It's always interesting to see what others are doing.

I have that, except, it only disconnects if %WIFI !~ connect*.... prevents dropouts due to intermittent tower signal when I’m connected.
Some other stuff I have:
Battery low warnings: vibrate/notify at 40%, audible/nofify at 30%, 20%, 10% (if silent is off).
Sync newsrob news reader at 3AM every morning (while I’m sleeping). Turns wifi on beforehand and off afterwards. This takes awhile... better to take care of it while I’m sleeping.
Turn on Display Rotation for Apps that needs it (my webbrowser, youtube, etc). On exit task Display rotation is turned off (saves battery to keep it off).
At 10:50AM every morning it pops up a message asking if I want to reboot. If I do not respond, nothing happens. I think it’s good to reboot every once in awhile for general principle and this is a time when I’m likely to have my phone on my desk at work, but not using it. Also reminds me it’s almost lunch time. Also if I tap the widget it sends another text and updates the value on the widget based on response.
At 11:00 AM every morning, it sends a text message to AT&T asking for my data usage for the month. Upon receipt of the message, it is parsed and the result is posted to a widget label on my home screen so I know how much I’ve used this month. Note that 11:00AM central time is a good check, other times of day the info you receive from AT&T may not be up to date.
When data is on I place a permanent notification to remind me that it is on. Notification goes away when data is turned off.
When screen goess off and not back on within a short period, I turn data off (to save data and battery) and turn display rotate off.
Battery % display widget in my dock – update every 5 minutes while screen is on. Color changes depending on level (green 75 – 100%, blue 50-75%, yellow 25-50%, red 0-25%. This also uses Zoom widgets (works nice with Tasker)
Screen Brightness level display in my dock. Tap to pull up menu to change brightness level and adjust mode between manual and auto (auto is also based on Tasker sensing light level). If brightness level is set above 40%, the displayed brightness number turns red and I get a perfmanent notification (so I don’t leave it on high). This also uses Zoom widgets.
Flaghlight widget. Tap to start flashlight. Then it asks me every 30 seconds if I want to leave flashlight on... if no response then it turns flashlight off (prevents forgetting and leaving it on).
Keyguard management. Turns on after a time delay whenever screen goes off away from home. Turns off keyguard whenever I enter key pattern (so I’m either at home in which case it’ll stay on after the first time I enter key pattern, or I’m on the road in which case it’ll turn back off when my screen goes off). Zoom widget has one letter H or A indicating whether my phone thinks I’m home or away (based on cell towers). Zoom widget has another letter H or A indicating how my keyguard is managed currently (home behavior or away behavior). Both letters change together, unless I tap the 2nd A while away to toggle it to H.. That indicates I have disabled keyguard on the road. A red permanent notification also appears. This is an original approach that I conceived/built although I drew ideas from the wiki
Profile which senses when I have a meeting on my calendar and automatically adjust my phone to “vibrate” mode so there will be no noises coming from my phone during meetings. By the way, I also forward all my incoming work emails to my Gmail account, which promptly stuffs them in a special folder. That way 1- I can quickly check incoming work emails from gmail 2 – all outlook meeting invites coming into my work email appear on my gmail calendar which is reflect in my phone calendar and triggers the profile. I actually don’t have a good working pre-meeting 10-minute reminder yet. Gmail’s doesn’t seem to work for me. Maybe I will do that in Tasker when I get a chance. This is a copy of someone else’s idea.
Every night before I go to sleep I press a button tell Tasker I’m going to sleep and in the morning when I get up I press another widget to tel Tasker I’m up. The sleep button sets Display Rotation off, sets wifi off, sets silent mode on, checks if I’m on charger and reminds me to put phone on charger. The awake button sets wifi on, sets silent mode off, syncs my google accounts (synker).
The wakeup task also sends a text message to google asking for weather in my hometown. Upon receipt of response, it populates a zoom widget on my homescreen with the weather/forecast. Also tapping that widget updates the forecast (via text). This is an original that I conceived/built.
For the weather widget and at&t data widget that both receive text messages... upon receipt of appropriate text message I use auto-shortcut to take me to the associated message. That way after I press a single back key, the incoming message notification is cleared. I could press back using built-in Tasker functions which would make it fully automatic, but that requires leaving USB debugging on, which makes me uneasy.
I have an “app” built in tasker that generates a transparent scene over everything else displaying battery level and temperature. Useful in the single situation that you are using navigation in the car and possibly charging.. keeping a close eye on battery level and temperature. This is an original that I conceived/built.
I also have a floating compass that floats over everything else. Useful with Navfree, whose display doesn’t give any clue which direction is north while navigating (the top of the map points in the direction you are traveling which may not be north). Requires SL4a and Python. This is an original that I conceived/built, with help from others on the Tasker google groups to figure out how to get the compass direction in Tasker
I have widgets to remember a parking space and launch Locus Pro to navigate back. Copied from somehwere.
I have profile to take/email photograph from front camera when someone enters the wrong unlock code. Copied from Android forums.
I have a profile to give a small tone whenever a call terminates. That is very helpful if you spend a lot of time on weak connections. You can keep talking after a call is dropped if you dont realize it. And knowing there will be a tone at end of call keeps you from asking "are you still there" during longer than normal pauses in the conversation. Copied from Android Forums. Very useful to me.
I have a widget that tells how many Tasker tasks are currently running. Tapping on it lists the tasks. Usually it doesn’t stay above zero for long. It allows me to recognize if a task has gone haywire. It complements nicely the display of active profiles which are listed in the pulldown notification. This is an original that I conceived/built.

All I can say is wow
Would you mind exporting your profiles for download
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Thanks. Exporting can be a little tricky for a variety of reasons. We have choice of two formats: human-readible text (which can't import into tasker) and tasker-readable xml (which resembles gibberish to humans). And what I've described encompasses a large number of profiles, tasks, and scenes. Could export a project tab on a few if you'd like. Sometimes importing a project tab causes bizarre conflict of same-named scenes ... at least I've had that experience.
So, if you could identify one or two that you're interested in, I can work on exporting/presenting those.
Meantime, some stuff I've already organized (?) for presentation:
1 - A rambling youtube video. First five minutes is sort of beginners guide to tasker using screen-off / data off profile as example. Next 4 minutes is rambling wander through some of my profiles. Last minute for some reason I decided to show off my holo launcher dock widgets. I did not yet have my tasker/zoom-based widgets for battery% and screen brightness in place yet at the time I made that video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il5EAKkMgGI
2 - Floating battery monitor (% and temp) - intended to float over top of navigation program while navigating/charging
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890710
By the way I have a new version of that, just haven't posted it there yet. Maybe a good job for someday.
Some general philsophy about Tasker fwiw: A lot of the things I do with tasker can be done with other programs/widgets. But I tend to think it's more efficient to minimize the number of programs in the category of widgets (which is continuously running process) and things that monitor for chage in state. They all use resources. Tasker uses resources as well but if we only use Tasker and Zoom for these types of things I think it's better. And sot of fun (that's probably the real reason). I'd have to say not more efficient in terms of time. For anyone considering buying Tasker I would mention it's not likely you're just going to grab a bunch of profiles and have them easily imported/running. There are often tweaks needed based on phone type and interaction among the various profiles.

Notification/Ringer Volumes
I just recently picked up a Verizon S4, and I'm trying to figure out how to make tasker "link" my notification volume with my ringer volume, so they will both change using the rocker. Any help?

Sorry, I wrote this question in the wrong device thread. I didn't notice that when replying from my mobile browser
Sent from my Verizon Wireless Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 4 beta.
1) I have created a profile that whenever i am sleeping phone goes in smart slient mode, if some vip numbers call my phone is back in ringer mode.
2) during some duration of the day my phone speaks the name of the caller instead of ringing. if not a known caller than it rings.
3) integrated it with LMT launcher and made a profile like double swipe up and all volumes are at max. double swipe down all are at minimum.
4) wave your phone and it takes a screenshot. ( you can change the context to any thing.)
5) if i missed a particular number 5 times in continuity than send him a custom message.
6) Phone says "missed call" at regular interval e.g 30 min
7) Phone says "battery full" when charged, battery low alert when below 20%.
8) Phone says "AC/USB Charging" when plugged in AC and USB respectively. and at removal is says AC|USB removed.
That sounds like a pretty neat setup you have there

Inspirational quotes on home screen
I made a tasker profile to show inspirational quotes every hour on home screen.
For this I made a text file containing more than 100 quotes, each seperated by "/" for seperating and identifying an individual quote.
Then picking up any quote randomly and pushing it to "Minimalistic Text" tasker plugin.
For displaying on screen I used "Minimalistic Text".
Profile:
Profile: Insp Quotes
State: Battery Level [ From:20 To:100 ]
Time: From 06:35 Till 22:35
Enter: Insp Quotes // This is the task
Task: Insp Quotes

Hey,
Some of your profiles soun pretty awesome, is asking too much, for you to export them and share?
Thank you
need some help seeting up car profiles pls!
Hello, need some help setting up the following actions in Tasker. I use a tablet (Android 4.0.4) only for in car use and have some problems setting tasker profiles. It should be something like this:
For state power on (charging any) do the following tasks:
1. Disable keyguard
2. Issue a play command to the media app, only if music is not playing already (will come back why I need this latter on) - now I'm using Media Utilities plugin with Smart play (which should do that but it doesn't ... sometimes it sends the play even if the music is already playing, or will send the play command to the built-in media player instead to JetAudio which is the default set media player in android and in media utilities)
3. Turn GPS on, using now secure settings plugin - works great
4. Turn Bluetooth on - works
For State Power off (not charging any) do the following:
1. Turn keyguard on (enable)
2. Wait 12 seconds
3. IF keyguard on >>>
3.1 Stop media (using tasker built in media actions)
3.2 Disable GPS (secure settings plugin)
3.3 Disable bluetooth
3.4 System Lock
4 END IF
Everything works just great UNTIL ... I go in the car, turn the ignition ON ... the power ON profile starts than when I crank the engine, the car cuts the power to any accesories including car phone charger. The power off profile starts and waits 12 seconds before stoping music, gps, etc.
Than the car starts (before those 12 seconds run up) and the phone charger receives power, and the power on profile comes back. I have a higher priority for the power on profile so, the power off profile is aborted and the power on starts again ... but here the problems start: Either the music is stopped (because another play is issued from the power on profile, and the media app thinks it's pause even with smart play command from media utilities) or the default android player is started and the jet audio it's stopped because the play command is send to the build in media player app.
what I would like is
- a shure tested way for tasker to check if any media it's being played, and if it is, abort the play command (tried %MTRACK with flash but could not set it up to work, got the same problems as above)
- some other ideas how to hack, workaround, create a better flow in my profiles to avoid interruptions in those 10-15 seconds while the tablet's charger is cut off by the car, when the car;s engine starts up.
thank you

[Guide]Android Battery saving: Tasker/Greenify/Xposed - Kill Google Play Services

Everyone wants to be connected, but save battery right?
I think this is the best solution we've got on kitkat 4.4 While still maintaining
google now/play/services and sync functionality.
(Also works well with most 4.x systems.)
I added updates to the second post. Thanks for visiting!
This tutorial will..
- Show you basics within tasker profiles
- Auto Sync Every 2 Hours (editable). Turns Data Off and On
- Auto airplane mode 12:30am to 5:30am - Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Fri Mornings.
- Auto sound off at night Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs
- Auto Backup Apps with TiBu at 4am
- Auto pattern lock on location, Disable @ Home
- Auto Turn PowerAmp on/off and set volume with headphone plugin/unplug
- Maps,Chrome,Tapatalk auto gps/data/wifi on/off "WIP"
- College/Home/Elsewhere Location profiles (set your own!)
- Allow google now/play services to hibernate
- Help fix broken .mp3 files (looping media scanner/server)
- Fix bad blocks in android
- Save you a ton of battery!
The following is done in Dalvik mode as ART is not supported by Xposed Framework just yet.
Apps Needed
- Root Access!
- Tasker (paid version) Free might work also.
- Greenify (paid version) to greenify system apps (google play services!)
- Xposed Framework 2.4.+ (enables airplane mode and greenify paid services)
- Secure Settings Plugin Secure Settings for GPS and Location Profiles (more to come)
- 4.1 helper! from within Secure Settings to enable features of Secure Settings in 4.4.x
- TaskKill Tasker Plugin [Root] To kill google play serivices
- Xposed Jelly Bean 4.x Airplane Mode Helper
- 7zip For extracting/repacking etc.
- Titanium Backup (paid version too for Auto)
And don't forget, to give many likes and donations to the OP'ers of these individual threads Thanks

I am not responsible for what you do with your phone, so take care
and understand these settings regarding kernel may fry your cpu if done wrong.
Also, DO NOT HIBERNATE CLOCK, PHONE or SMS!
Quick Notes
The worst this guide can do is turn the google now auto voice activation "OKAY Google" off yet google now will still function.
- Some apps like Whats App might not work correctly if hibernated by Greenify.
Be careful of what you hibernate and check How to Hibernate google play services and more! section.
- If you want to stay connected 24/7 via data, omit the Mobile Data = Off in the Exit task End Sync in Sync Every 2 Hours Profile.
- If %HOME ~ elsewhere
This checks to see what %HOME output is set to by reading the file in the current Profile
Example:
Home
- Read File
File Tasker/Home.txt To Var %HOME
- Enjoy!

Screen Off Hibernate Lock
This profile used to only Hibernate all Greenified Apps.
In addition, it will now check VAR %HOME to see if you are at #Home, #College or #Elsewhere.
Turn on pattern lock, and select a pattern to use. (pattern is the choice secure settings uses)
- You can also go and remake the secure settings options and select pin I believe.
- You can also turn it all off by just leaving Hibernate as the only task on screen off.
It will use Secure Settings to Enable: Lock Device/Enable Pattern on screen off,
IF #College or #Elsewhere Profiles are enabled.
Example:
If %HOME ~ home <--- if %home output is set to home from Tasker/home.txt Secure Settings will Disable Pattern Lock.

Boot Minimizer
This Profile Kills Google Play Services before hibernating it which is an effective way of making it hibernate correctly
(It will turn back on but check the processes in Running Apps. See img below.)
Once you turn your screen off, it will hibernate Google Play Services again.
Boot Minimizer profile will most likely say, couldnt kill google, or hibernate.. turning this into a
User App usually reverts back to System in Titanium Backup.
Tasks Used
On boot Boot Minimizer enables:
- Wait 45 seconds
- TaskKill Extreme = Google
- Wait = 5 Seconds
- Hibernate Now= Google
- TaskKill Extreme = Kill Google Play Services
- Wait 10 seconds
- Hibernate Now = All Greenified Apps
If you watch running apps in Settings/Apps as this profile goes through the process, you’ll notice google play services
will stop the 4 or 5 processes it usually runs after a 60 second buffer to allow it to first boot up.
Google play services will hibernate accordingly there after via Sync Every 2 Hours profile.

How to set up #Home, #College and #Elsewhere Auto Location Profiles Requires home, college, elsewhere.txt files
Now this whole Home, College and #Elsewhere <--New! Profiles are still in Beta stages.
Not sure if this works as of yet, but I've had good feedback so far. Do let me know and we can work it out.
To use these profiles (Not provided since you need your own cell towers.
- Open Tasker
- Click + button on bottom
- Clicks are assumed.. Click on State
- Phone
- Cell Near
- Click Scan while walking around your home where you usually use WiFi. This process takes
all the cell towers in your location into account I found 8 in my apt, a very small area.
- Stop Scan and hit search/Magnify glass
- Click on all the towers to give them a check mark and go back.
- Add the Enter Task Home
Finally
- Do the same as #Homefor #College and #Elsewhere Location Profiles
using College_WiFi and Elsewhere
- For Elsewhere Profile, start it as if making Home but click revert at the bottom of the scan page in Cell Near
- Add Elsewhere as the Enter Task for #Elsewhere
"If CELL NEAR does not work like in a basement, try add WiFi Near to double up the Location Profile.
Click Hold on Cell Near to add."

Wifi connected and Display (Wifi) Profiles
I have been working on a profile to turn wifi on/off or use data instead for awhile but keeping it on with background
data/wifi enabled to finish a download or streaming constant is tougher than it seems.
I wasn't able to get permission but you can Download Traffic_Screen_off_with_Nightmode_v1.1.zip
from parthipanramesh on his thread he started last year. It's a complex operation indeed.
I would use it by leaving nightmode out and also leaving "Wifi connected" Off.
There's a good chance "Wifi connected and Display (Wifi)" can work together, yet I find it kind of buggy.
Anyways, go check his work and thank him. [v1.3] Tasker: Screen off=wifi/data off(no traffic+)AutoSync+Night/Reduce CellStandby

Hibernating google play services
To allow google play serivices to hibernate how it should. Make sure you have:
- Root Access
- Boot Minimizer Profile
- Hibernate Screen Off Profile
- TaskKill Tasker Plugin [Root]
- Greenify Paid
- Tasker Paid
- Make sure to have Tasker Preferences/Misc/Allow External Access Checked!
- Give TaskKill Tasker Plugin [Root] root access by running the profile once.
Now assuming you have Xposed Framework and Greenify paid version installed. Make sure you have every box
checked except Telephony Wakeup in Greenify Experimental Features (paid version only)
Also, Don't hibernate sms or phone applications they shouldn't wakeup with Telephony Wakeup feature turned off.
Hibernate The Following Apps
I have no problems hibernating these apps but if you want them to function with wifi/data push notifications enabled, de-greenify
the apps you wish to get notifications from. (Also Disable Sync Every 3 Hours Tasker profile to leave data on at all times).

How to fix .mp3 files and stop Media Scanner/server loop
Lower Media Server/Scan
I stumbled upon this thread only recently, and found the culprit (bad .mp3's) which was possibly the reason
why my media server/scanner battery drain was so high, (up to 40% battery drain on 4.3.1).
Take a look see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1717237
.nomedia scan spoof
Another mentioned media scan preventative option is to add .nomedia files to all your folders not containing video/music/photo media etc,
to lesson the amount of time media scan takes to scan folders.

Monitor Battery Wakelocks etc
Freezing, Deleting, Hibernating, Disabling
- Disable sync, Hibernating, Freezing, Deleting the stock browser in 4.4 is the easiest way to save battery by far. (might be fixed)
- Freeze Google +, Voice +, Print Spooler, CM Updater
- Deleted Hangouts (This was a big drain for me on 4.3.1)
- Disable Android Device Manager in Settings, Security Device Admin. This will
keep you from locking, changing passwords and erasing your device from the
web, but this is also a major battery drain. So the added benefit is up to you.

I hit that thanks button for ya. I especially like the tasker profile to hibernate everything. I'm going to give this ROM I threw on late last night a few days to settle before judging my battery life. Thanks for the tutorial!

The hibernate one is definitely working. I tested it by opening up a bunch of "greenified" apps and backing out then locking up the phone. Opened up greenify and they were definitely sleeping. Its something I hadn't thought of before and it looks like its going to help tremendously. Also, the thread you linked for greenifying Google Play services was another help. That reminds me. Gotta thank that guy too.
Xposed airplane mode just kicked in. Should save more battery now than the 1% an hour I lost since hibernating google play services.
I was not using the xposed airplane mode with tasker since 4.3.1 so this should be interesting as I have another 89% battery to go and Quantum v3 RC5 is a beast!
Update: no screenshot yet, but I'm at 49% @ 2 days 2 hours 26 min w/ two hours screen time, some calls, sync, text and music playback.
unfortunately for me... anything below 875mv @ 384mhz V4A starts to act up. Functionality over battery I suppose

try 486 at the same voltage. Not all phone's are the same though, also, decreasing by 25 and letting it run and going down another 25mV is always the best approach.
Tasker profiles are not working for me. I cannot import them into Tasker.

Which setting do you use for V4A?
Battery Saving: Available for all processors with NEON.
High Quality Mode: Available for processors with NEON.
Super Audio Quality: Available for processors with NEON.
I'm on High Quality Mode if that helps.
I know there are some issues with music playback on PowerAmp mentioned in the Quantum forums. Hopefully it gets fixed with the release of 4.4 nightlies soon.
Also, what cpu are you using (I see from settings/about I'm running Armv7 Processor rev 4 (v7I)

Try unzip them and import with holding the home button bottom left on screen in tasker. You also might have to enable (Allow external Access) in pref/misc tab in tasker.
I've been using tasker for awhile so I don't remember the steps taken to make everything work. Although, I'm happy to try and help!
I will try get the rest of the profiles in the To do: section and current download set into individual downloads as soon as I'm free of this hell called finals.
Stay tuned!

I am on an ATT SGH-I747 so the ARMv7, and I have it set on HQ Mode, not Super Audio Quality mode.
I believe I have the v1 of the snapdragon chip which is known not to do UV very well. (at least that is what I have been telling myself to sleep better at nights)
If I don't use V4A, I can undervolt to those voltage... and be stable, but the squeeching and popping really hurts my ears when I go below 875mv

Extreme overclocking profiles nice. Looks like a big read lol.. Back to the essay.
I was at 2 days 20 hours or so with 30% battery left on 2 hours screen and my phone reboots after updating zooper widget... I read that part in the change log afterwards (will reboot on update sorry) pff... So it reset my counter to 2 days 9 hours. I really wanted a screen shot of at least 3 days lol. Next time.

I was unable to get Google Play Services to hibernate... Than it dawned on me... the stock Kit Kat Launcher uses Google Play Services... Shame, I really like it. Time to find a new launcher. I switched to Apex for now and Google Play Services is staying hibernated.

Try unchecked the telephony Sms in greenify paid. I see my gsf hibernation with the google launcher.
Thanks so much for this. I knew about all of these except for the tasker profiles. I get great battery life already, but never thought to use tasker with greenify. I already notice significant battery savings with the hibernate when the screen goes off profile!
Wow, looks awesome.
I like the looks of this! If it keeps performing like this I couldn't get the battery lower then 50% today....
Thanks for the tips!
Edit: looks like screenshot isn't getting in reply, 13% battery used, 48 minutes of screen on...

Thanks for the tips, my battery life is way better now.
Just one question : when I greenify Play Services I lose push notifications for Whats App or Facebook messenger. Is it normal or is it just me ?
I'm using Xposed with the Greenify donation.
Thanks for your help.
