[Q] Help with Email - Captivate General

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right category. If not, I'm so sorry.
So basically I try to set up my embarqmail with Android (you know, used to be centurylink) but I can't. I've used the stock email app, K9 mail, and I'm now with Maildroid and I still can't set it up. Can you guys tell me what you did because I have no clue about imap, pop, server number, port, etc.
I even went to an AT&T store and they couldn't figure it out!

Try to set up your email account on gmail.com

[Q] Mail on phone/Outlook Server

Have been trying to figure this out for some time. It seems from my on-line searches, others have too! I just purchased a Samsung Mesmerize after being a long time Blackberry user. I was hesitant as first, but almost immediately was hooked!
So on to the question: Has anyone figured out how to delete outlook emails from the phone without deleting them from the server? My Blackberry had a function to delete emails only on the device, when I would return to my desktop the emails would still be there. Haven't really found an answer anywhere other than it can't be done...

when i delete an outlook email on my phone it doesn't delete it on my outlook account, what email client are you using
I log onto my work email through an outlook exchange server (i.e. mail.xxxxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/exchange). I set the email up through the Mesmerize mail client.
Thanks for the response!

mine is the exact same way, and I dont see any settings that even give you a way to change that settings like on black berrys.. so I'm wondering if its set like that on the server side at your work
edit#
although, I did set up my outlook account through account and settings, which still uses the default email client, but that's the only thing I did different than you.. it's worth a shot...

you're welcome, let us know if that fixes the problem or not..
Edit...
Ok, so i just double checked to make sure that mine does not delete off the server which i was sure it didn't... Turns out I was wrong. Mine does delete it off the server, I swear I thought I tested that out when I first set it up and didn't think it did...
Sorry about the confusion...
Also, I'm sure you're aware but when you delete it from your phone it does store it in your trash can on your server, just in case it's something important...

If you use touchdown, it gives you this option, I don't think i'ts free though.
@elijahblake No worries...I have it set to only show emails for 1 day so it's managable. In the big scheme of things it helps keep me organized!
@bdemartino I will check out Touchdown. I appreciate the input!

Inspire won't send emails

I use my hotmail account on my inspire and it won't let me send emails. It really passes me off because I have some items on Craigslist. So I have to wait until I can get home to use my computer.

Are you using the phone's native email app? Some people, myself included, have been having problems with this. I didn't really get far in getting in fixed, but I did download the k9 email app and it's working perfectly. If you're not already using that, give it a try.

Good, I hope that works for you. My native email app worked for the first 10 days or so and then just stopped fetching my email completely. Then when I would try and refresh, I would get error messages. I changed a few settings which allowed me to refresh and get new emails but it would never fetch on it's own again. I think some changes were made as k9 made an update right afterwards with a changelog that said something like; updates to security for IMAP and others. I think some changes were made that we weren't aware of but only affected certain people. It's a bummer as I really enjoyed HTC's full screen email widget!
Solution is straightforward. GO to Accounts, account settings, go to outgoing settings, and change the last two :
Security Type: TLS
Server Port: 587
Dont ask me why this works or what it means. I have absolutely no idea. I saw it somewhere on another device once and wrote it down 'just in case'. And it works!!

Hotmail/Live settings with custom domain name

I can't find anywhere how to set a Hotmail/Live account that has a custom domain name. On Windows Mobile, the Windows Live app set up seamlessly. If I had a @hotmail.com domain, it would be easy. But my 'Live' email doesn't use the hotmail.com domain.
I need some better search wurds...
Pop settings
Based off what you are stating, you might be able to try the Live Pop settings as discussed here: http://www.ehow.com/how_6728632_configure-email-outlook-mobile-phone.html
Don't know if this will work but it is worth a try.
Try m.live.com

Sweet! that did the trick, at least for the email part. Everything I was reading had me trying settings for and Exchange email. Just about every page I found had me tweaking hotmail.com settings, and one combination I tried sync'd my calender and contacts, but only downloaded one email.
OK, went back to the Exchange settings over the pop3. It was working correctly before, I just didn't realize it doesn't back sync earlier emails.
My company email is [email protected]xyzcompany.com and I used m.hotmail.com as the server and it seems to be syncing correctly.
OK, this thing won't keep any email that is more than two days old. No matter what number of days I select. It syncs contacts and calender just fine tho.
*scratches head*
SI don't know that it would help but they just released an official hot mail app in the market. I know it isn't the greatest solution but it may solve your problem.

Hey thanks buddy. I searched the market for an 'official' MS app. I was looking for "Windows Live" as my search words, and all I found were 3rd party apps.
It seems to work pretty good. And handles multiple hotmail/Live email accounts.
Now if I can just keep all my contacts straighten out. This phone like to sync toooo dam much info, and I've been deleting duplicates and redundant info for days now! Ah.. gotta love the learning curve that comes with a new (to me) OS.

Email help please

Hi all:
Just got a galaxy tab 2. I also have a galaxy s2 phone.
I was wondering, is there a more practical way to auto email?
What I mean is, currently I am using the email apps that came on the tab and phone, as well as webmail at work. Out is a godaddy email addess. Right now if I send an email, it it's not stored in any Central location, so if I send an email from my phone, and I an using my tablet, and want to reference the email I sent from my phone I have no way to do it. Same thing applies for ones I write on webmail, our on my tablet. I can only see them on the actual place they were sent from.
This is getting very confusing. Is there another way?
I know I could use webmail on all devices, but it doesn't work very well on the phone, or tablet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!

I haven't checked to see if the SG2-7/10 supports IMAP, but if it does, try setting it up that way. IMAP syncs the folders you specify with the server.

Yea other than changing it to IMAP there is no way around this. It's not a device issue it's a email server issue.
Thanks so much for your replies. That was exactly what I needed!
Thanks again!

I have my school email synced with no issues

Is it an edu address thru gmail?

what I did is add another account to my gmail so that my gmail receives all of my emails and then sorts them into folders so I get them in generally one place. You can do it from settings on a computer. Worked for my ucla email which is a g.ucla.edu

You can set it up so that you will reply from the same email within the thread on the same settings page I believe. But also in the from field you can switch between email accounts

Let me clearify. I think I have an answer but I need to understand. You want to make it so that you can reply from an email sent to your school mail from your personal email? Or is it set up that way now and you don't want it that way.

No. i would ultimately like to set up the school email on its own but i am having problems getting the email to sign in and add it as an account. as a temp fix i have my school emails being pushed to my personal email. The issue now is that when i reply to the email i just got to my .edu account, it replies with from my personal email. thanks for the help. let me know if anything is unclear.

Well with my school email I can set it up through my gmail app as any other gmail address but if I want to set it up through AOSP Email or through Outlook I have to specify specific Ports and use SSL
