[How To] Huawei U8500 FroYo (MTC Evo) Updated 30/03/11 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

This is how I got FroYo running on my U8500. It supports many languages.
Download the FroYo beta firmware from Huaweis homepage
http://www.huaweidevice.com/tcpsdow...zip&attachmentName=U8500 V100R001C278B712.zip
Unzip. You will se different folders - find the largest dload folder, about 211mb. Copy the dload folder to the root of your SD card. Turn of phone. Hold hang up key + volume up and hit power. The FroYo is being flashed. At the end it will say update failed. Wait a bit and then pull out the battery. Put the battery in again and start the phone. The first start will take like 5 minutes so WAIT. Now when the phone starts your on FroYo ;-)
If you are experiencing any problems with wap or radio then redo the installation and you will get an sucess instead of update faild at the end =)
By the way. Here you can find the Eclair version if you please to go back for som reason. Post #39 by McSpoon
http://android.modaco.com/content-page/318780/huawei-u8500/page/20/

i updadet it successfully ,but wap is not working. Wifi is fine ,but something happened with wap. I think everything is ok with settings.

Install it again and you will get an green "check" at the end of the installation instead of update failed. This will make your wap start working, the same for those of you having issues with radio.
If wap doesn't start automatically - configure the adresspoint manually.
Best of luck!

i did the update twice. First time it's failed ,so i tried second time and it's finished successfully. Now i editted apn settings, and internet started working, but now browser turns off for some reason then it's starting to load the page

can you give a mirror, because the link is broken

There you go, Sir.
bit.ly/hD2e6j
If this does not work for you either, pick the first link in the Chinese ROM overview, the one that says "Froyo Beta"
bit.ly/et6gv4
I had to use bit.ly, obviously the board does something to the links?! Oh, and obviously I can't post links since I'm a new user, so you have to copy/paste

Link isn't broken, I'm not allowed to post URL:s since I haven't posted enough. I think you have to write 8 posts before you can link.
Copy the text and put www. infront of it, your god to go

in this froyo ,can we connect to ad-hoc wireless ?
thanks.

Ooooops! FM Radio disapeared! Any patch to recover it?

I am using Huawei U8500 in Bangladesh (Brought by Grameenphone as Grameenphone Crystal). Using ROM manager, I have copied the current ROM. Before updating to Froyo, I want to find whether my copied ROM contains all type of info (specially the startup branding of Grameenphone)

After reading this tutorial I've downloaded the Froyo update & installed it. As per the instruction it failed at the first time & on the second time it was successful. Everything is ok & nice but the radio not found. I mean there's no fm radio player in there. I tried to download some radio software, bt all are online radio. but i need the radio which receives the fm transmission locally.
I tried updating with the file time and again. but the result is same. please help me..

You can find this in the wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Radio only upgrade instructions.
By the way, a hard reset in not necessary if you only upgrade your radiostack, softreset is enough.

Until now no radio hangings for me. With 1.14.10 I probably had to reset already a couple of times.
Hopefully it will stay this way .
somehow i feel radio 1.14.10 is more stable here in Malaysia than radio 1.15.00. I lost signal few times on radio 1.15.00 and sometime the reception is intermitten.

If the error pops up on the PC display at the end of the flash process, don't worry...... this don't mean nothing, the data upload has finished regularly. Boot you device and check the Radio version....... it would be 1.15.00
I thought 1.15 had solved all my problems - I certainly never lost phone connection switching from 3G to GPRS (which I did with 1.13, 1.14 and, to a lesser extent 1.09) but now can't maintain a connection to the internet!
I upgraded to 1.15 earlier on in the week and all seemed to be finmr until 8:26 yesterday morning (the last time activesync synched my push email) Since then I get connectine, then locating foolowed bu a message telling me my connection has been dropped. This happens at home in mid-sussex and at work in Woking and in between so not a localised proiblem.
I'm using an O2 Exec on T-Mob W'n'W using jwrightmscp's WM6 - anyone else having problems?
<--Still rolling with 1.09

[ROM-BASE] Stock 1.17.651.1 Rooted, Deodex'd for dev's to base off of.

After getting request's to post this on its own thread... here's the stock, rooted & deodex'd rom that has been fixed... Superuser, HTC_IME FC's, and the updater script!
Dev's, use this as a base for your roms... If you are new to emmc partitions and updater scripts you can use this as a reference on how to properly mount, unmount and format partitions within the script. If you have anymore questions please post them on the 'Developers reference' thread located in this forum.
This rom is not going to be maintained, however i more than likely will update it as new OTA's rollout. Please only post rom development related items in this thread.
Stock--Rooted, deodexed 1.17.651.1 base rom!
thanks for this
I only wanted to add that as this is the base ROM that seemingly will be used to base other ROMS of off, that the VVM part of this ROM is broken. Uninstalling the package will not work, nor will updating to the latest version. Having to resort to Google VM.....
Not bashing by any means, just wanted to let you know, so maybe this can be fixed before it spreads to more ROMS as they are built. Only thing I found, OH, and the ROM is not R/W by default, seems its Read only.... easily fixed.
is there a reason why i get a stuts 7 error when flashing this?

I flashed the rom to see what u were talking about... after updating VVM, it's working perfectly fine. Make sure you're on mobile network as it seems to not want to update via wifi.
As long as im correctly understanding you.... i don't know any rom that mounts file systems rw by default. You have to manually mount them via adb shell, or adb remount.. or a root app.

Shouldn't be any reason, best way to help is to use these commands using adb shell right after you receive an error in recovery.
Code:
adb shell
cat /tmp/recovery.log
I have only flashed this rom using ClockworkMod 3.0, so i cannot say 100% that it works on 2.5... but so far it looks like you're the only one with an issue.
FYI: There's a guide posted on how to use ADB in this forum.

On mobile network... :-( Flashed the ROM x2 and what I get (Over network) is a continual "Verifying your account information" when opening VMM V. T.5.1.0.48, until it times out. Then when I select settings for it, at the top its greyed out and continues to say "Please wait, verifying ......".
When I press the button to "Check for update", it says "General Failure. Please try again at a later time."
Anything I'm missing>? I have re-downloaded the ROM, as well as re-flashed 2 x to the same conclusion....
Thanks in Advance Prelude......

Cybernook, sprint may be having issues where you are. I just tested it and mine updated, tho it took a reboot and had to make sure BT and WIFI were off.
After installing the rom I did the "update prl" and "update profile".
been using this rom ever since posted
no issues
works great
Apologies to you Prelude. I called sprint yesterday and they informed me they had been having VVM issue for 2 days (Up until my call). All is updated and working fine today!

@scottydoguk, I posted a question on page 3 of the working gb with radio thread, and then on the last page below your last post there, (this is a copy paste with a minor edit so please be gentle if you see this more than once >.<) but did you manage to get mobile network working? as I just flashed the baseband to my phone, and can make/receive calls, but I dont have 3G or wifi working atm (about to try your file after its downloaded). Do you have the apn's handy for orange? incase its now incorrect or are they included in your file?.
EDIT: Also so long as your phone is unlocked and unbranded (and purchased in the uk) the baseband available should also work for you.

yes it is properly rooted but I am still confused. it was inbuilt radio before rooting and I am asking for the same inbuilt back. are you talking about internet radio? ok I will search till you reply .I searched in google play immediately and there were some option like fm radio, tunln radio and other. To be honest, there are very few radios on the play store that aren't internet radios. You'll have to search around, and also look for your original one if you remember what it was called. Otherwise, in the future, back up apps with Titanium backup to an external SD before flashing a new ROM, then restore them after.

Pretty much, unless you can find it on the manufacturer's website. You can try looking around on 4shared etc if you remember the name, but be careful of what you install.
You don't lose apps (radio) from rooting, you lose it from installing (flashing) new ROM's.
Hope this helped!

Mine is HTC 10 Evo and Pro - mode works perfectly.
You can try these ways :
1. Back to stock ROM, then install S.Team ROM as an Update.
or
2. Booting to TWRP, fully wipe your phone and format it. Then install S.Team ROM

I do the 2nd way (twrp) but need del the boot+_china folder in system/priv-app. Then boot+ work againt.
Thanks for rep .
I tried this rom coming from bad boyz. I can't get data going and cannot manually set the apn. I'm on the bolt
Maybe if I dirty flash the data settings will stick? Well.....that didn't work. Giving up for now. Without data, it's sort of pointless to use
I'm on 10 evo with cricket GSM. This Tom won't mess with the GSM capabilities right?
hey guys,
did you choose your carrier in Setting menu for Data ?

There was a fix for this posted in a previous s-rom forum that was deleted. I don't remember exactly where you need to go but what you will need is a valid sprint rom with the proper carrier configs in it. I copied them out of an htc 10 leedroid rom before, but you can use any rom that has the US sprint config files in it. Open up with an unzip program the s.team rom in your pc and copy the sprint config files to the carrier folder where they belong. The rom should auto rezip the file with the new config back in when you close it. Flash the rom with the updated configs. I don't remember the exact path from the file names since those posts are deleted but that is how we got it working on his last bolt rom. I was checking through my folders, and thought I could pull up the config files to send you but I just can't remember where the were. Someone that knows a bit more about it may be able to give clearer instructions. -actually now that i think about, you might be one of the guys that got it working with 7.1! if not check with roadkill42 cause i think he got it working too. I'll have to play around with this download later when I have time since these things take some tweaking to get working.
EDIT: Ok found them, for example in the leedroid htc rom they are located here: LeeDrOiD_10_V5.2.1-R146-Stable.zip\extras\carriers\Sprint
I think its different for every rom, but that is the folder that you need to copy and put in a similar folder in the s.team rom. Not sure where since I haven't download it yet. Like I said, you should be able to pull the files from any other rom that has the sprint configs in them. Can't upload them cause the files 40mb. Of course there may be another way as well...

You download an software on PC named "pack_unpack tool v3.8", then unpack "boot.img". After that, del folder "S.ROM" in "Out-put" folder. Repack it.
