Android sync problem/Facebook/lastfm etc. - General Questions and Answers

Ok I guess someone must have the same problem.
First of all it is important to say that this happens when you are using original android version not the htc builds and stuff.
So the thing is when I join (by hand or automatic) contact from any network like facebook or last.fm with my phonebook contact it changes the display name as it is on the website (not the actual name just the displayed one). So how can I change that - i want it to display the names I`ve entered.
And the other thing - if i link someone with facebook and the phone number on my phone is lets say +44XXXXX and on facebook this person has the same number facebook is removing the + and the phone stays like 44XXXXX and i cant call them anyone any idea why is that

got the same problem,,,i switch to off the facebook sync to my phone.

Unable to manually set name of merged contacts

Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, feel free to move my topic.
On my Android phone (Motorola Milestone) I have several apps that integrate into Contacts: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, LastFM.
Android makes a good effort in merging the contacts automatically, or I can merge them manually. Some people compain about the automatic merge and I know about the bug reports, but for me it's good enough.
What bothers me however, is that I cannot set what type of contact has "priority". For example, I have a merged contact that consists of a Gmail contact (containing full name, address, phone, email), a Twitter contact (containing nickname, full name, profile pcture) and a Facebook contact (containg full name, phone, email, profile picture). In the Android contacts list this person may be shown as either with his full name or his nickname. It is completely random. I have not found a way to force this merged contact to be shown with full name. I just want an option to say "this person is called X, dammit".
Any ideas?
I'm sorry but... *bump* ?
same here.
It is driving me crazy.
Any solution?
Running Milestone 2.1
Yeah, would love to know this as well!
Thanks!

Would love to get a fix for this too!!
*bump*
I'm now running Froyo on my Milestone, but I still haven't found a way to do this.
Yet another *bump*
I'm going to try something incredibly dirty: install the .apk of the HTC contacts app, because this allows to set the visible name.
Is there no app on the market that allows easy editing of contacts?
Anyone tried any apps and if so then why not post the app name and whether it was useful or otherwise. That could help everyone else trying to solve their contacts cloud issues.

[Q] Linking contacts with mulitple names

How can you specify which Name should be displayed when linking contacts in WP7?
According to MS this should be possible (see ***.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/people/link-two-or-more-contacts.aspx)
"When you link two or more contact cards that have different profile pictures or names, you can choose which picture and name will represent the whole. To learn how, see Add a picture to a contact."
But there is only a description for the contact picture, not for the names...
Does anybody know how to do that?
Cheers

Open the desired contact and then tap "edit" in the bottom bar. Right beneath the profile picture you'll find "name". Tapping that opens a form where you can enter first name, last name etc. That name will be displayed in your contacts hub according to the settings you made for how your contacts are shown (last name first and so on).
Thanks for your reply, but i doesen't quite answer my question. I know that I can edit this information, but thats not what i want.
I'll try to be a bit more specific:
I have a Windows Live contact with the name 'abcd' and an Outlook contact with the name 'Aaaa, Bbb'. On my phone i linked these two contacts (since they represent the same real person). But my phone always uses the name from the Live contact. When I edit the image, i can choose if i want the image from the Live account or from the Outlook contact (and from what i understand from the MS doc this should be possible for the name as well).
-> the only workaround I found so far, is to delete the name entry form the live contact. (Contact -> edit -> edit Windows Live -> delete)
Can't test it right now (on a different phone) but it depends on what linked profile comes first.
For example I link a Live and Facebook contact and to show the Live name, it needs to be the first one... if any of that made sense.
Sent from XDA App
Yeah,... I know what you mean, but the live contact is always the first in the list. It doesn't matter if I select the Outlook contact first and then add a link to the Live contact or the other way round.
Can you reorder them?
Something not quite right linking contacts.
Linking contacts seems only half implemented.Ive also had this problem, renaming the linked contact card only works sometimes, but always renames the first linked contact, I dont wont that. Also there does nt seem to be any logic to which name it chooses for the card.I ve stopped linking contacts anyway because in text messages you get several message threads from the same person with no idea of what number its from to text or call back ( if they have more than one mobile number ). Lastly I would like to be able to rename the catergory of the number ( Mobile,Company, etc ).Because I would like moblie 2 or Work Moblie.I Hated having to look at the phone numbers all the time to decide which one is right to use.

Sorry if I can't see it on my WP7 device atm, but I do remember being able to use the Facebook profile first and the Live profile came second.... have ya tried open Outlook contact, press link and then chose the Live contact ?
im not quite sure what u mean but here goes:
if you have 2 contacts. One is named ABC and the other one is AB. If you want to link them both but keep the ABC name, then you need to go to ABC and link it with AB.
Similarly if you want to keep the AB name, then u need to go to AB and link it with ABC.

Noob question on WP7

1) When I tried to make a phone call, I click on Contact - except that I see a big list of people imported from all over the place, even some has no telephone attached to it. I can filter out by source, but is it possible to make it so that when you are making a call, only contact with telephone is shown?
Now I have Exchange and facebook contact list. Facebook usually does not have a phone associated. If I include both then when I am making a call I have a rather huge list to go through. If I exclude facebook then I cannot see them in the "Picture" app. The contact filter seems to be global.
2) Is there anyway to check out other region's marketplace, or apps in Chinese in general (without the name of the app).
3) Is there a way to show the status permanently. My area has weak cell phone coverage so when I want to make a call, I want to make sure there is 2 bars at that location. It is annoying to click something just to see this info when every other phone does not need to.
4) There seems to be no way to adjust ring volume by itself, which is a total W T F when you considered my 15 years old Nokia can do that! .
1-in settings goto applications, then people click on filter my contact list then uncheck Facebook or any other accounts where the contacts may not have numbers, then uncheck only see posts from people in my contact list.
2-I'm always seeing apps in Chinese in the marketplace. as for filtering probably the only way to do so from the phone is to change the region settings. the web marketplace is a different story tho.

4. Nope

3) There might be an app in the near future similar to the network dashboard tiles, but so far, there is no way to do it.

[Q] Sensation gives the word Smartphone a new meaning

Today I would like you all to help me solve a mystery.
The other day I carried my Sensation (with Sense 3.6) in my pocket. Suddenly I had a (international!!!) phone call. A face I never saw before appeared on my screen and a guy asked me what I want, I had tried to call him a few times. I did not know the caller so I said as it was: Sorry but I did not call you. Since I did not have my glasses with me I could only check the call list once I was back home. To my big surprise I saw that my Sensation had made 4 calls to this guy who is NOT in my phone book but he is a Facebook "friend".
Now how could this happen? How could my Sensation make these calls? At the moment I would not know how to call someone out of Facebook. And just to recall. I had the phone on my pocket and as we know it has this lockscreen with the ring but even then it opens to a picture with a clock plus a mail, call, message and camera icon only!
How did Sence 3.6 make those 4 calls to someone I out of Facebook?
(Actually it also made a 5th call but this number was in my "peoples" list.)
I did not add FB contacts to my phone book!
It's possible that if you have the Phone app as one of your shortcuts on the lockscreen, and no unlock pattern then it could have phoned him. Do you have the Facebook app installed? Then if so I'm pretty sure that it auto adds friends to contact lists.
Dangerous...

If you choose the "sync all contacts" in the facebook app ( during the initial launch of the app ) all your facebook friends appear in your contacts. If this guy you called has his phone number registered in his profile, it is most likely that you accidently called him while your phone was in your pocket
To make one thing clear: I know Sence wants to add Facebook or e-mail contacts to the phone book. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN!! This guy is NOT in my phone book (I doubble checked!!) and this is why I started this thread. I would not know how to call someone out of Facebook but Sence does .... with a few clicks.
Even if the phone app was started by chance - I would understand if it would had re-dialed the last number or a number on screen. BUT this Facebook number where did this come from. It was NOT in the phone app!

I'm not talking about syncing sense with facebook! The facebook app can sync contacts even without sense ( in a vanilla Rom, a cm9 rom and every other android based rom! ). Anyway if you didn't find this guy in contacts there is another way to call him by accident. If you open the facebook app and tap the search button there is an option next to your friends ( the ones who have their phone number in facebook ) that allows you to instantly call them within the app. So this could be the case! If not i don't know what to tell you. Your sensation is smarter than it is supposed to!
But you still read this guys updates on Facebook.
But to start FB while in the pocket it would have to open app screen and pick FB and then do the right choice. This looks quite unlikely. I have no FB icon on screen.
In the dialer one can choose FB contacts but need to mark this option and that would for sure stay. Therefore it can also not have come from this ...
For once I will not carry the phone in the pocket anymore.

Good for you.
But just so you know, this is an "Android" feature with screenshots of recent apps in ICS. It is also present in GB, except it presents you with icons of the recent apps instead of screenshots.

Calendar Help - not able to see event details when dialing

Hi all,
Long time HTC one X+ user with AOSP Rom..... just switched to Nexus 5. I like N5 but one frustration is about calendar.
I am on work calls most of the time - all my calls have toll free number to dial and then we have to enter conf code # - a typical corporate set up.
on HTC...I was able to open calendar event, click on the toll free number for dialer to show up and dial the number..and then it used to show ..tap here to view calendar event details - I use tap and then view/enter the conf# details, it also had a provision for taking notes. I believe this was default calendar client (or maybe HTC's, not sure)
on N5, I can open the calendar event, click on the phone number, it brings up dialer with phone number and I can dial.... but nothing else - No event details to view or can't do any thing further.
this is a big problem for most users like me as when we dial a number and once connected if we have to enter a conf# etc..we have to go open the calendar event remember the conf#, then go back to dialer and enter the conf#....this is a pain in the neck.
Not sure if I am doing something wrong here...or forgetting anything I rooted my N5 as I do with all my devices....so maybe using a different calendar app makes sense?
thanks for your help..
In reading some articles, looks like the default Calendar app doesn't have these features?
