Hey Everyone,
Just got my Locked Rogers Captivate yesterday and have been trying to figure out how to get data working with the Fido network...
These settings seem to work for my phone:
* Name: fido
* APN:wap.fido.ca
* Proxy: 205.151.011.011
* Port: <Not Set>
* Username: fido
* Password: fido
* Server: <Not Set>
* MMSC:mms.fido.ca
* MMS Proxy: 205.151.11.13
* MMS Port: 80
* MCC: 302 (retrieved from SIM)
* MNC: 370 (retrieved from SIM)
* Authentication type: none
* APN type: internet + mms
Browser works good with these settings.
For some reason though I can't search the Andriod market any suggestions?
Hope this helps,
Ryan
these settings are for 2G...
my settings:

APN: internet.fido.ca

APN Type: default
Leave All other Settings Blank

APN: mms.fido.ca
MMSC: http://mms.fido.ca
MMS Proxy: 205.151.011.013

Leave All other Settings Blank/or like they were
if it still doesn't work... enable DATA ROAMING, and it'll work.

Are you using a fido sim card? It's weird that it works without unlocking the phone. First thing I suggest is to download the sgs unlock app and unlock the phone. There's no reason not to really.
Dont't use the wap apn. Explains why the browser only works.
This works with mine:
Internet
Name: Fido Internet
APN: internet.fido.ca
Proxy: 205.151.11.11
Username: fido
Password: fido
MCC: 302
MCN: 370

MMS Port: 8080
Username: fido
Password: fido
MCC: 302
MCN: 370
APN Type: mms
I just combine it as internet + mms to make things simpler.
Try this one first though:

Update me on which works please!
I'm using internet.fido.ca and it works fine for me. I haven't tried the .apn one yet. I'll give it a try once I finish calibrating the battery.

Hey,
I thought the "sgs unlock app" only works on the at&t branded captivate... is that not the one click program?

Hi guys,
I'm also using this but I DO have to leave it on romaing for data. (Why? - Are they charging me data roaming fees even tho im a Fido sub?)
My setup:
Rogers captivate with froyo update using att release.
Fido Sim Card.

I called fido and read forums and I've been informed that you will not get extra charges. Not sure why you have to check roaming for rogers captivate though.
On a different note I'd like to share my experience with 2 different internet apns provided. "Fido 3G+ +MMS" gave me about 2k/0.3k for speed test while "fido internet" gave me 5k/2k in dl/upload speeds. I'm running axura beta 2. Can anyone confirm?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
Awesome. Very nice to know.
Will try and post my findings on speed as soon as i get to test the different APNs.
[EDIT]
I'm also getting similar speeds from "Fido 3G+ +MMS" (2.8k/0.35k).
From fido internet : 4.5k/0.2k
Also checked with a colleague here who is on rogers on an x10: he's getting around 3.5k down and 1k up!!! crazy upload speed.
tested with speedtest.net's app
same here,
tried use both 1)mms + internet, and 2) internet only, seems internet only can get better result on both upload and download speed, using speedtest.net app
Hey im in the exact same boat, got a rogers captivate and tryin to use it on the fido network. the sgs unlock pro app (available in market for $5, but worth it imo) worked perfectly for me and is very user friendly, it requires root tho, i used the z4root.apk to root my phone. here's the thread for it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
I was just trying to connect thru the fido auto find XD data did not work at all... txt and calling did tho, even before i unlocked it.
thanks a billion yungster89, that was exactly what i needed to get her working
i noticed when i use that APN tho, that the 3G data transfer icon will stay up, but if i try to use any data it will switch to an H logo, i assume this is for HSPA? but when i did a speedtest using the speedtest app, i only got 1.5 mbps while on my iphone 3gs (which had the exact same data plan/sim card on it) i got ~3.0 mbps down rate. any idea what would cause that? i thought HSPA was quite a bit faster than 3g?
Apn locked htc desire
Hi....
Maybe someone can help.
My apn is locked on my htc desire.
I cant edit and I can't add a apn.
It is a Vodaphone handset.
What cracks are available?
I just bought an Inspire and I can't connect to Att network. It shows the H+ and shows that Att is my Newtork Operator but it wont let change any of the settings or scan for other networks. I had a HD2 that was unlocked and work like a charm on the network but now it won't let me play with the settings. Do you think that I have an old data plan back in 2005 that was unlimited to my Sony Erricison?
Your data plan has to be 4g otherwise it won't connect to the data. You can keep unlimited also.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
The H+ usually means that you are connected to the data network. Are you sure it isn't a H with a check mark? Which means that you aren't connected to the network. To use the default APN settings you have to be on a "4G" plan, like the previous poster said. You can always add an APN to the list and use it as well. I had this issue when I first got my Inspire. Try these settings.

Everything else:
I've been lurking around the forums for weeks now, and much as I hate to be the new n00b on the block, I'm seriously at my wits end with this phone.
I have root access, the stock Froyo ROM, busy box, and I went through the same hell most of us with the SGS4G seemed to go through to get it unlocked (at which point I caved and called T-Mobil) and now that it's finally unlocked, it won't recognize the SIM card (China Telecom) it says 'no service' and claims that my phone number is unknown. I have a good signal though... OTL
I've used the SIM card in the (Android) phone it came with (a Chinese model, of course; it was hell to navigate.) So I know the card is fine.
I wanted to actually be able to use this phone as a phone before messing around with it, so if anyone has some ideas for me, I'd be much obliged. And while I'm on my knees I'll ask, do any of you know of a decent (free) VPN I can use to get over the Great Firewall of China? (youtube and fb aside, it'd be nice to get some real news without having Big Brother watching (and blocking) my every move)
TL;DR:
rooted SGS4G on stock Froyo ROM.
SIM unlocked but not acknowledged; can't send messages or make calls.
Not a SIM or signal problem.

Ah, it's an APN problem.
Looks like China Telecom uses the CDMA/EvDo rev, and whereas the SGS4G is made specifically for T-Mobile, which uses GSM/WCDMA. It's not acknowledging the China Telecom network, and won't even let me save the APN settings when enter them manually.
It looks like the difference is in the MNC value. I don't know much about it, but it only accepts '99' (for CDMA it's '03')
Well then... is it possible to even get my phone to use the China Telecom network?
APN settings for China Telecom
Most APN lists don't have China Telecom included (why? because it's CDMA? or is there some other conspiracy?), so I'm posting the settings for whoever need them, though I don't think this is the right place
Note: Under "Network Settings/Mode" you want "CDMA/EvDo" or "CDMA only" selected. if you don't have this option, sucks for you... and me D: (unless you know a fix???)

AT&T uses a different kind of network for mobile data, I don't believe it's compatible. Compatible north american networks would be T-Mobile, Wind and Mobilicity.

Mods if you think this should be in a different location feel free to move it. Also I'd like to see a sticky APN thread, because apparently google is too hard to use.
I thought I'd post this because it comes up alot and there isn't a single place this information sits(as far as I could found in my searches). Also I have to find them all over again when it comes up. So here it is.

If you find yourself not able to send MMS messages it is most likely because the proxy,port,username,password fields are not <Not Set>. Just tap these values and delete any information in them. I always restart but not always necessary.
Some people enter 216.155.165.50 for the MMS Proxy and 8080 for MMS Port I have never had to and am not exactly why these values might be needed but try them if the T-Mobile settings don't work.
thx

I wonder if these settings might help S3 phones get LTE :/
I have been trying to get an ATT GS2 - I777 that is rooted and unlocked running on tmobile to accept and receive photos with texts for a week with no luck. I have used the settings provided by T-Mobile with no luck. I am running ICS though and it has a couple different settings. Any idea if that is what is causing it not to work. I can send regular text fine but it dies if you try to send or receive an image. Sending an image shows sending and it never goes. If I try to send from another carrier to this phone it comes back with a failed message in about 5 minutes.

There is NO MMS protocol listed
APN Type shows Internet+MMS+SUPL or each listed individually.
Then APN Protocol is IPv4 or IPv6 or both together.
APN Protocol when roaming also shows IPv4 or IPv6 or both together.
Then APN enabled has a grayed out check box that I can't select. Shows APN enabled.
Last is bearer - LTE or eHRPD or Unspecified.

Well I would keep it ipv4. If you can leave any extra settings blank do that. Definitely use APN.
Have you tried leaving everything blank or "not set" except for the servers? The MMS issue is definitely your APN settings.

I've seen this happen often with areas of poor or slow network coverage. If the coverage is full 4g try rebooting the phone that helps sometimes

As far as I know, you have to have mobile data in order to receive MMS(picture messages) for SMS (text message) you only need network. Message can't be sent or received via Wi-Fi.

There's an article out there that follows the entire messaging cycle. To my knowledge, which may be wrong, Android routes all messages through the radio. So that if you have Wi-Fi on and your radio off, none of your messages will send until your GSM radio is on and has connected to a network.

Sure. When I say Radio I mean the GSM wireless radio, which is responsible for the wireless communication between your phone and the service provider's cell towers. And, to my knowledge, all messaging is sent and received through the cellular (GSM) radio through your cellular carrier (T-Mobile in this case.) As for MMS I was under the impression that went through the data network connection and SMS was handled just with the mobile network (Voice call etc...) Make sure your messaging plan includes SMS, if it does contact the carrier (T-Mobile) and make sure they haven't messed anything up. (maybe not phrase it quite like that) but inquire to make sure it is all good on their side.
