[Q] To sell or not to sell . . . - General Questions and Answers

Hi Guys and girls,
Before we start I do have E-bay and have 100% Track record so if i were to sell at any time of me being here on Xda.com, You can buy
With knowing i am a honest and reliable trader.
Long story cut short, I have a htc desire hd ( In sig ) And A Samsung galaxy S Being delivered on thursday. ( Phone upgrade )
Now the dilemma i am facing is this;
What phone do i keep, DHD OR SGS?
What Phone is More Future proof?
If i were to sell one ( Which i am debating on doing so as Really low on cash atm ..) What one should i sell.
Thanks for reading guys,
The end result and pro's and con's of the answers will help me decided on what phone to keep and Possibly sell the other one here.

I would keep the DHD. Better phone in my opinion but mostly because HTC have a better track record of after sales care. Both devices have good community support so that's a tick for both.
EDIT: Might be worth adding a poll to guage opinion.

I shall add a poll when I get home.
I'm on neutral ground atm, so opinions are appreciated x

Go for the Galaxy S
The Desire HD is a GREAT phone, but the Samsung Galaxy S is the fastest phone on the market at the moment. It has a great interface, and may be one of the first phones to update to 2.3, although maybe not in the US, as very few of the Galaxy S phones have Official 2.2, but they each have either custom roms or official leaks.
I use the Samsung Fascinate with 2.2.1 Official Leak and its great. I love it and will buy the next Generation of Galaxy S.
I like keeping my phones (I'm OCD that way, lol) but I had to sell one, I would sell the one I wasn't going to use as my phone.
You might also want to test each phone out to see which phone is better for you. I like phones that are fast and slim, I like Touchwiz, but I love HTC Sense. But I am willing to sacrifice having sense for the toggles on top of the Notification bar (Wifi, GPS, etc.)

If the Galaxy S ever gets an officail update to 2.3 i'll chew off my arm and eat it with ketchup!

I shall be receiving my SGS tomorrow morning Via Rm so ive gotta decide . .

Is screen size a factor for you? The DHD is bigger, but then it doesn't have the best battery life.

It is quite a large factor for me, as ive got pretty chunky fingers so would be benifitial but its only 3 cm's in int there?

.3" difference. Doesn't sound much but it's more than you think once you have it in your hands. (Ask any woman!)

HD2 or Captivate....

Ok so I bought a Captivate day 1 when it was released and it is a great phone dont get me wrong. but after coming from htc devices where the pace of development is so much faster than this i feel like moving on to something different. I like my captivate but i dont LOVE it. i am on the verge of trading my captivate for an HTC HD2..... i just kinda wanna know what you guys think? thanks so much and please dont stone me for this.
If you feel limited only due to the current software features of the Captivate, I would recommend you stick around - it is taking some time but soon enough there will be loads of development based around the Captivate and other Galaxy S phone models. Whether it be custom ROMS or OTA updates.
However, if you're restricted due to the lower 5MP camera without flash or another hardware limitation you may want to switch devices while yours is still high in value.

LMAO, What's this guys problem? Steve is that you, in your beltless jeans and turtle neck??
On topic: The HD2 is nice, but the 1ghz Snapdragon is power hungry at 65nm and only delivers 35% of the graphics power of the 45nm Hummingbird (Easy to OC). The Captivates screen is better aswell (500,000:1 contrast!!!!), and it can support up to 50gigs over 32. (16 onboard, 32 Sd, and 2GB ROM = 50gb) I had the same choice to make, and The Galaxy S is a clear winner, unless you want winmo and android.

Hi, I think we have the same problem, but when I decide to buy the captivate I've already own a HTC HD2. I love all the specs listed on the samsung captivate (located on AT&T's web page), but when finally got the captivate on my hands I've just couldn't let go my HTC HD2. I order to get more Android friendly, long before I received my captivate, I start to use froyo on the HTC HD2, love how it feels, but when I need to work with my devices, it all comes down to switch back to WM (may be because my life is ruled by microsoft). It's so hard for me to leave behind my HTC HD 2, that I still uses both phones (siwchting between froyo 2.1, Froyo Stone Sence HTC HD2 and WM). Last night I've instaled the latest update to my Captivate and here I'm giving the last chance to my samsung device to be up to the challenge. by the end of the week i'll give you a finall decition.
It honestly depends on your usage. I understand one of the bigger things I've noticed from this article is that you are shooting for a 4.3 inch screen. If you are shooting for a large screen phone (for watching hours and hours of youtube and movies) maybe the HD2 is best for you.
I've owned a good chunk of smartphones from the Aria to the Streak, and I've got to tell you...there's not alot that beats the Captivate. I watched the Expendables (HD quality rip) on my Captivate, and since that day...I don't think other phones compare at this point in that aspect.
Keep in mind the SAMOLED screen, the Video via 3.5 mm jack, and the Gorilla Glass and make your decision .
Just know that from what i've seen in my time here, XDA is with you 100% on whatever choice you make.
Thanks everyone for you input. I love my captivate but i did trade it for an HD2 and i love my HD2 so far. the screen is awesome but most of all i love the insanely large amount of roms available for it!

Well, it's been out for 10 months.

Which of these two phones to buy?

I'm searching for the best replacement for my good old "Super" HD2.
I'm trying to decide between HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S2.
Anyone can help me decide?
They are both very good phones and i'm thinking of trying the SGS2 because i have been a Big fan of HTC and Sence, but now I starting to get curious about SGS2.
Please give me some help decide.
I'm going to post this same question on the SGS2 forum to compare the answers.

I think from this thread you will get everyone telling you to get the sensation and the one on the SgS2 forum they will be telling you to get that
I say try both and decide for yourself, after all it's you that's using it
... ... ... ...
From all the reviews and tests I read on the net, SGS2 wins all the most important ones, but I'm thinking that HTC is always a better phone for the future becose developers tend to turn to HTC devices more that others.
So I think that with Sensation I will get more costume Roms and more unofficial develepment.
For me the most important is not the present speed of the phones, because I know that will change in the future with new roms and costume roms.
The most important for me is the Costume roms support and unofficial developers support.

Got my Sensation yesterday unlocked on Vodafone upgrade. I have to say that after using SGS2 for 4 weeks Sensation is little bit disappointment. Available memory out of the box with no apps installed is about 140MB (compared to 520MB on SGS2). Can't get used to new Sense UI but I've loved it on my old Hero. SGS2 also is much faster out of the box. Sensation feels nice in the hand, it's more "solid" compared to plastic SGS2 but seems to be a little bulky and not as sleek as SGS2. One thing i've found better on Sensation is wifi signal strength which is really good. As i am quite impatient person i don't wanna wait for unlocked bootloader too. I'm sorry HTC, but Sensation goes on sale. :/
Bear in mind that is my personal opinion.
Edit:
SGS is very easy to flash, you can even unlock it to sim free with no hassle. Regarding custom roms Samsung gave free SGS2 to Cyanogen team, so soon we should expect some CM7 love. Also MIUI port is coming soon.

But without using any search buttons, it would seem.
I think there's another thread about that question somewhere.
I went back and forth on the spec for hours and hours. However, once I got to play with both phones in the store the answer was clear in a matter of seconds.
While you can't buy a bad phone between these two, you can certainly buy the wrong one for you. Optimized ROMS will find their way to both phones sooner or later, so I wouldn't worry about performance too much. How the phone feels in your hand or how you experience qHD vs SuperAMOLED+ is hard to change though. I highly recommend you go out and try both phones.
In all honesty, The Galaxy S II may have slightly better hardware, but TouchWiz ruins it. I know that you've already decided, but as far as overrall phones, no one beats HTC.
Hardware isn't slightly better, it's much better. Only metal casing, wifi strength and screen resolution (but not a screen quality) is better in Sensation. Personally as soon as I rooted my SGS2 I started using ADW Launcher. Now I'm using Regina 3D Launcher and really love it!
I don't care how good the hardware on the Samsung is compare to Sensation,I'll go with HTC everyday. All Samsung phone is a piss of ****, it feel like a toy ,cheap plastic, it'll breakdown in no time. Samsung always want to be ahead on tech and rushing their release making their phone plan rubbish.

I would have done the same thing if I could. I am with T-Mobile so I wouldn't get 3G from it so that would make it basically worthless to me. I am also a big HTC fan, I have only ever owned HTC Android phones since the G1 but the SGS2 does have better hardware specs. I am jealous of their ram and 21mbps data speed. If the Sensation came with those two things it would make it the perfect phone to me.

[Q] Suggest me a *Phone*

Well I wanna buy a new phone (obviously) and I want your advice.
I currently have a Samsung Wave, I gotta change it since Bada OS is a piece of crap, and I currently do NOT recommend it to everybody until Bada 2.0 is released
Things I care about :
-Android 2.3 or updatable to 2.3 | updatable to Ice Cream (optional)
-Strong sound quality through headsets
-Great camera, 5.0 or better. Flash isn't important if the night mode is great
-Speed, 1GHz processor and ability to play 3D games smoothly, I hate lags
-Popular to developers, so I can find some advices and easy to root
-Long-lasting, i'll keep the device I buy for 2 years
-Screen above 3.7", screen should be the best thing, so either SAMOLED or SLCD
-Not as expensive as Sensation and Galaxy S II, budget is $530
-Long supported, so the company won't sell me out. That automatically eliminates Motorola.
Any advice's appreciated, Thanks.
The og Samsung galaxy s or one of it variants.

What do you think of the HTC Desire S ?
How about going a itsy bitsy bit higher price and get one of the latest flagships like HTC Sensation, HTC EVO 3D, or Samsung Galaxy SII?
--- meaning: change your requirement a tiny bit ----
Edit:
Long support? I believe no company will give you long enough support, I believe only rooting and getting support from the devs in this forum is the best way
The term support, I understand it as software update support, so that you can go as far as you can with the phone.
example:
Desire with Gingerbread and Sense 3.0. These you can get only on the unofficial way done by the devs.
I have the original HTC Incredible. Very happy with HTC phones. I would buy another and likely will when the time comes.
You just described the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
I had the phone for 8 months and that's a super device. No way to brick or anything, with great customizations and mods..

You got a galaxy S 2? And you want the Slide? Why? SGS2 is superior in every aspect. More RAM. Better Screen. Better Processor. The list goes on and on. Undead stopped devving for this community cause he bought a SGS2. From his reports its a much better device all around. Hell im looking to buy one myself.
Random third party observation - why not trade? If you both want the device the other possesses then the details can be worked out i'm sure.
Just a random thought - i'd hate to see you move on so soon though, AndroidBotx, you seem like you have a lot of stuff rattling around your mind to share as you get into it. I'd rather see whatever journey of discovery you take here because I probably won't if it happens there...
...devving for something you don't like working on is a sure way to take encourage you not to do it anymore and i'd rather lose a dev of any level to another sub-forum then completely.
There will always be a shiny new something around the corner, and unless you want to ride the chaotic ( and fun! ) wave of chasing new release devices you gotta pick a spot to camp for a bit.
You could do far, far worse then the doubleshot as the device you held for a while.

I can count on 1 hand i think the times I Have used the keyboard...i got the Slide as a warranty replacement for the Glacier....now when I call for another replacement they tell me there is no suitable replacements but the DS....I like HTC but I don't like the Tmo branding and possibility of exclusion from official ICS. These phones are supposed to be top flagship phones but I have had 3 glaciers fail and 2 DS fail already in less than a year....I have asked for the older Sensation even and no go....I told myself after owning 3 different Crapsungs as my first Android devices I would never go back to Crapsung but starting to second think that...lol

Should I buy the ONE S?

Hello people I am an owner of HTC Desire S and time has come to retire my phone and upgrade.
I am seriously considering getting the ONE S so I have a couple of question that you proud owners of it can probably answer.
1.Should I buy it even if I cant get the version with the S4 chip?
2.What are the major problems you have with the device?
Thanks in advance for you help
I just got my One S like about a week ago and I love the phone.
I have the S4 version and have not tested the S3 version. I would say even the S3 version, it should definitely be faster than the Desire S. While S3 is a little bit old, It maybe hard to tell unless you are extreme power user. I think in day to day use like browser, main interface, etc. the performance should not be much difference. I used to have rezound with the S3 chip and I cannot tell much difference. If you got one of the custom rom, then you would sure get hte best performance.
There is no major problem as far as I can tell. The form factor is really nice, so slim, yep hard to image after seeing so many htc phones are so bulky.
Don't get it if you can't get the s4 IMO. There are barely any devs for s3. You are paying the same price as s4 owner and getting an inferior product. I know s3 is fast but its still not an s4. If you are not planing on rooting your phone and running custom ROMs on it,then I think its OK to get s3.

You should definitely get the s4 model it is faster and you will notice the difference if you go hard on the processor.
Also as the lad said, there aren't that many devs for the s3 model. Meaning that you might not get some of the roms/tweaks availiable for the s4 version.

As another person looking at getting this One S, how can I tell if it has the S4 when I'm in the T-mobile store with it in my hand? What other useful information can you more experienced One S users provide to help me make the best phone choice?
I have read some reviews stating there is a problem with maintaining signal or the phones drains the battery rapidly. What say you?

Speaking as someone who's just come directly from the Desire S I think you'll love it. The screen is so much brighter than the DS, bigger than the DS and it's so fast. The camera is fantastic in out door conditions especially. Some of the photos it takes you would honestly think were taken with a 12mp dedicated camera instead of a phone! Battery life is very good for a dual core phone as well. Lasts me on medium use about 1day 14 hours and 2days if I barely use it. My biggest problem with the device would be the pentile arrangement on the screen. You can see the pixels and the screen is very blueish. That being said after a couple weeks of using it you don't notice that at all and the screen becomes fantastic it's because your coming from a 3.7 inch s-lcd phone to with a very high resolution to a 4.3 inch super amoled display with a fairly good resolution so it takes a while to get used to. Go for it though, you won't be disappointed.

One S is better.
1. You won't need to do a battery pull. Ever.
2. Rooting is easy, look at some tutorials in the developer section (DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS IN THAT SECTION!! EVER!)
3. Menu button in built into the software. If you root you can remap any keyto be the menu button.
Hope I helped.

It is still far better than a desire S even with the S3/adreno 220 and better than the XE (apart from storage options and you have removable batteries with them), excluding the GPU/CPU:
- far better camera overall, absolutely no contest between them
- way better build/perceived quality and IMO design/looks (subjective this)
- better screen overall (although some might prefer LCD on the XE and DS)
- battery life will still be better anyway
- more RAM
- much better audio
- newer device and will be getting jelly bean officially before the end of the year
- also another wee plus is that you will get more money when you sell the one S rather than the desire S and XE in a few months time or a year in order to fund for a new phone
Only reason to get the DS or XE is for a removable battery and SD slot and perhaps a better developing community (no idea what it is like for them)
Buy it, you won't regret it

Am also thinking of buying it... Infact, am between 2 phones (htc sensation xe Or the one S)..
I watched a lot of videos for the one s, it looks great but am afraid only from the battery that can't be removed.. & was wandering if rooting the device is easy... One last thing also which is missing with my brain is the menu button.. i don't know how i will do in my life without it... i wonder if u guys get used to it or if it's not a big deal...
sorry for the posting big reply..

Hey man you don't need to worry about the battery. It's fairly simple to root you just need to unlock your boatloader with HTC dev and its easy from there. The recent apps Button can actually be mapped as a menu button! It's an actual stock feature and that's how I have my phone. You press recent apps for menu and hold for recent apps
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I went to the store today.. & i saw it again ( the one S ) i was drooling on it there & about to buy it... but i didn't know how to know if it has s4 or s3 chip...i read about it that u can know it from the benchmarks.. but the shopkeeper don't allow to turn on the phone :/
i searched the whole white box there looking for a clue but the processor written on the box was (Dual core) only..
is there another way to know if it's s4 without turning the phone on..(e.g : maybe the color of the box of s4 or if there something specific..).
the one in the store is black international version... & thanks in advance for all of u guys..
am really looking forward to use this phone with my hands since am going to evolve from wildfire o:
Yes, the store you went have the s3.
s4 you will see duel core 1.5ghz.
Another way is the model name - z520e for the s4 and z560e for the s3.
