[Q] Galaxy Model "Variants"?? - General Questions and Answers

Ok, so you guys say only use specific roms with certain model phones? I have a Galaxy S Showcase (SCH-i500) and do not see ANY mention of a ROM that will work... is the Showcase (Cellular South) the same as the i9000? Fascinate? Epic? Vibrant? Captivate? Tab? Backed up with Titanium, Tried using ROM Manager to make a backup image of my stock ROM and the above options are the only ones.... I'm sure one is interchangeable with my Showcase SCH-i500??
I have rooted using z4 and would love to make some "improvements", but NEED SOME GUIDANCE / REFERENCE FOR INTERCHANGEABLE MODELS PLEASE!!!!!!??????

I am new using the Android phone, I just got a rooted Samsung Infuse 4G and installed this Rom Manager.
When I click on Rom Manager, then Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, it gives me a list of the phone model but I don't see Samsung Infuse. Would it be Galaxy S? It has Vibrant, Capitvate Fascinate....etc not sure which one is same as the Infuse. Can anyone help?

[Q] What are the differences between the Rogers and the ATT version of the Infuse 4G?

Hi All,
I have just purchased the Samsung Infuse 4G as my new secondary device after my SGSII and I am wondering what the substantial differences are between the Rogers and the ATT version of this device, keeping in mind that I am in Canada and am on Rogers?
What ROMS CAN and CANT I flash? What Kernels CAN and CANT I flash?, etc, etc, etc...
Please advise as I used to have the Galaxy S I9000M (Canadian version of the International version) and I was able to flash International ROMS, etc... Can this be done on the Infuse 4G without losing my proper service bands, etc?
Thanks for the replies...

Im sorry but I dont understand wht you are trying to tell me. What is "Galaxy S lable" and what do you mean "Gingerbread that I know of"? If you mean that the ROGERS version already comes preloaded with Gingerbread 2.3.3 and NOT with Froyo 2.2.1 then that I already know.
Please advise...
Well the Canadian Infuse is a Galaxy S device and are is not even though it is the same device. So this just proves that Galaxy S is just a label.
and the android version. those seems to be just the major differences.

Thank You again for your reply Optimus but what I am really wondering is if I am able to flash "ATT based" custom ROMS, etc after I root and install CWM. I know the rooting proceedure for the ROGERS version of the Infuse 4G is different but is the actual "firmware"? Will I mess up the device by flashing it with ROMS created from ATT firmware, etc?
Does anyone know?
i dont think it would matter since we are running your roms on your phones. Gingerbread. but i mean you can always ultimate unbrick if something goes wrong. so its worth a try. and just a hint. att roms are froyo based
From what I can tell you,
We have Gingerbread 2.3.3 we do not have HDMI output. (Not a big deal for me).
Our video recording is a bit messed up (Recording at 15fps) but there is a fix now. Other than that there's not a huge difference.
Differences:
1) Cosmetics (that's what the other guy meant by "Galaxy S label") - no differences internally hardware-wise
2) Gingerbread bootloaders
Basically 2) means you can't flash old Froyo-based ROMs because no one bothered to make them compatible with the GB bootloaders - we focused on going the other way around. Our Gingerbread kernels are capable of working with Froyo or Gingerbread bootloaders.
Any ROM you might want to flash is based on your stock firmware currently, since official AT&T Gingerbread isn't out yet. Samfirmware claims it's officially out on Kies, but Kies refuses to connect to our phones so I call BS.

Need assistance with Infuse 4G details inside

I just got my infuse 4G yesterday and i have been trying to find the same firmware that is on the Att Samsung Galaxy S2. I have just learned how to use odin, and thats all i know how to get roms on my device.
Can anyone give me a working Samsung galaxy S2 rom that is able to be used on odin.
Currently i have
Firmware: 2.3.3
Gingerbread. UXKG3
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3-CL366622
Baseband: I997RUXKG3
I downloaded this from Rom Manager i think, the phone has a signal but it has no data.
Also everytime i try to install a rom using the ROM MANAGER the screen begins to look like a tv with a whole bunch of colors and it just reboots with no success at.
I ever got to install the 2.3.5 gingerbread for the infuse 4G but keep getting a #*999* email error and i dont know how to fix that.
Can someone point in the right direct step by step
The Infuse can't run Galaxy S2 ROM's. It can run Galaxy S (I9000/Captivate) ROM's using the Hellraiser patch and kernel. There are several ROM's to choose from in the Infuse development section of the forum, including both Infuse ROM's and Galaxy S ROM's already modified to work on the Infuse.

Ok so how about this.
Do you know where i can get a list of roms that work on Odin for the Samsung Infuse 4G, because that seems to be the only way i know how to install roms on the device.
ok to use odin means you cant flash hellraiser. that means if you dont see the firmware in this forum in a .tar you cant use it the way you are describing. basically all the odin roms here are return to stock packages(so far)
however if you flash a voodoo kernel or otherwise get cwm you can use cwm to flash any 2.3.3-2.3.5 rom in the gsm type galaxy s forums (not cdma) as long as you immediately flash the hellraiser package over it,. dont reboot the phone till after both the rom and hellraiser are both flashed!. many of these roms have heavy sgs2 theming. look especially in the captivate, vibrant and i9000 sections. do not flash anything for the i9003, epic, facinate (unless it's telus which is more like a vibrant), mezmerize or other.

I realize this is a new phone, but its relatively cheap price, decent specs and the fact it is on a contract free carrier make for a potentially popular phone.
There are a few threads elsewhere ie:
androidforums Attain 4G - All things Root
There are no specific forums for this device on XDA yet.
Please, please, please let the development begin!
I am willing to use my phone as a test device and assist in whatever way possible. I would like to find a stock img to flash back to if everything fouls up though.
Thank you XDA Devs!
Samsung Galaxy Attain™ 4G LTE (SCH-R920)
Generally
Who sets up a new forum? This is different from the Samsung Galaxy S II Attain on AT&T. (Hence why this thread is here...)
Samsung Galaxy Attain™ 4G LTE (SCH-R920) is on the MetroPCS vendor, with its own issues.
Personally
I've tried compiling tarballz to build a new kernel zImage from opensource.samsung.com (cygwin, Sourcery G++/Bench lite, Odin), flashed the kernel tarball in the PDA section of Odin, notice a red 'KERNEL' verification FAILED, and wouldn't go past SAMSUNG screen; boot loops. New fix to stop exploits?
I'm an idiot, and bricked my phone. It's been bricked for a week now. Need fix plz. OEM ROM?
Is anyone working on this? I've seen maybes, but nothing firm. Don't know my specs, but I assume the same as this page.

only one optoin
There is no development underway for the attain. The only option is a pre rooted flash able tar. Someone was able to get their hands on a rooted rom which can be flashed via Odin. There are no custom roms but u will have super user access and full root. Please also be aware there is no clockwork recovery, so no nandroid or flashing zips.

[Q] Can I install a custom ROM on a network locked Galaxy S2?

Hi,
simple question I assume but I couldn't find an easy answer with Google:
In my family we have 2 Samsung Galaxy S2 phones, one is unbranded and the other is a locked one from Vodaphone.
On the unbranded one I installed the LiteningRom 3.2 and speedmod K19, all works perfectly and battery life is excellent.
Question is: can I also install this (or any other) custom rom on the Vodaphone branded Galaxy or will it brick the phone/make it unusable ?
Thanks in advance for your views.
Hi,
I'm fairly new to rooting, my galaxy S2 is locked to O2, I managed to root my device with no problems at all using ODIN. Just make sure u download the right rooting package for your firmware.
Yes you can! I've done it! My sg2 running a flawlessly rom now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Thanks for the replies, I will give it a try.
Your phone being network locked, to the best of my knowledge, should have no effect whatsoever.
What you NEED to watch out for is whether or not your provider's network is GSM or CDMA. Don't try to flash a CDMA rom to a GSM phone, or vice versa.
And make sure to Nandroid Backup!(!!)
