You're right, That app could do it. Sadly, it does not work on all devices (ie. going lower than Android's restricted minimum). It works on my Nook Color, but doesn't on my Evo3D, which has MHL

[Q] Buggy TF Bad Touch Screen

After all the excitement of my TF arriving I fired it up to find that the touch screen has issues. Say you are in landscape mode, about an inch from the top there a half inch wide strip that runs all the way across the screen that will not respond to a finger touch. I either have to have it docked and use the mouse to do anything in that area or turn it to portrait to change the orientation so what I want to touch is not in that area. That same area of the screen is dead in portrait mode too.
Also, it won't charge through the USB ports. I was in on the TD sales so a return is not possible. I'll wait till more are available, buy another from a different local vender then do a swap and a return.

I left it sit with the screen off for over an hour and the battery level dropped. I also tried it completely powered down and the battery level didn't change.

Wasn't that by design? I seem to remember hearing that the power supplied via USB is so little that you can't charge there, but have to use the a special cable?

It was like that outa the box. The first thing I tried to do was drag a few icons to the removal area. As soon as I slid it up the screen and hit that area I couldn't drag it any farther. It was like I took my finger off the screen. It took me a while figure out what was going on.

Hmm... Now that you mention it I think I read that somewhere too...... Time to do more research.
The problem I have right now is I am leaving for camp this afternoon and I have no electric there yet. So I guess I better have it fully charged before I leave. It's going to be tough getting a whole weekend out of a new new toy.
One more thing, I left my wall charger at home so I borrowed a coworkers Thunderbolt wall charger to see if I could top it off before I left for the weekend. It won't charge it either. So something must be pretty special about the TF's wall charger.
Although the problem seems different from mine, it does show ASUS has some quality control problem with the touch screen no TF. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068569

I had exactly this with my first TF, except it was a 1/2" wide strip about 1" up from the dock connector. Factory reset and unplugging from the charger had no effect. Asus was willing to do an RMA but I returned it to Newegg instead and hunted for another one.

Ok, after reading all the new posts this morning from a lot new purchasers I guess I am not the lone ranger with some issues. I guess that is to be expected for us early adopters. I'll get this unit switched out when they become more available and I'll just deal with the screen problem till then.
I love the TF. The screen is beautiful, seems very responsive in the area that it works and is extremely fast. When it's hooked up to my Bolt using 4G it surfs amazingly quick. I can deal with a bug or two for a while.
I've got the same thing but about a third of the way from the bottom of the screen. It doesn't respond to touch when I lay the tablet down, but when I hold it in my hand it will respond better but still not great. Strange.

I'd like to know too... anybody?
Turn your TF around.
No..
the HDMI exit on the transformer reproduces exactly what is on the tablet screen at that moment..
so if you turn off the screen you won't see anything..
It's annoying, some things like the fact that the youtube app does not rotate in full screen mode (so if you want to charge your device while playing you can't)
hope they fixed these little details in the prime

Or my new solution - I put the cloth I keep in my transformer case to clean the screen over the screen when I dont want to see it - a bit old school I know - but it works.

[Q] ATTN DEVS: Tab as Car Stereo Questions

Hello all.
I know there are several threads on this, but I just wanted to ask a couple questions while i search, Hopefully someone, maybe a dev or two, will have some ideas..
Since the GT2 has no physical buttons on the face, and it's difficult to install it into a dash unless you leave a mechanism for pressing the screen wake and volume buttons, I have the following questions:
1) is it possible to make the Galaxy Tab wake when powered by external source (not battery), such as plugging it into the charger?
2) is it possible to have the screen fall asleep only when external power has been removed? (Such as turning off the ignition which kills power to the charger) That way when the car is turned off, it will go to sleep mode till the car is turned on again.
3) What is the fastest booting rom? ( never hurts to ask)
4) is there a way to completely disable the lockscreen, so when it does make the screen turn on, it is at the desktop?
That should do it for now. I am very interested in this project, and am acquiring parts to do it. I just need to know if i have to create a pushbutton setup in the top of my dash or not...I'd prefer not to.
Any info is greatly appreciated!
I am checking out Tasker and a few other items i found in another post.. I like the idea of moving the power button too... If i do it, i will post pics.
Still searching,..
Tasker works well for all the issues you brought up. As well as put the Tab into low power mode (screen off & hibernate) if you have a battery drain app that will turn off all non-essential apps. To access the power button, I bent a paperclip into a hook of sorts and it works well.
Here is an install thread for a C6 Corvette that should help:
forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3203999-android-7-tablet-install-in-a-c6.html
ATM I am looking for a volume booster like Volume+ that will work on the Tab 2 with CyanogenMod 10.1.

Thanks for the link Firewater...I tried Tasker.. not sure why, but it didn't seem to work well for me. I just downloaded Caffine and it seems to be doing exactly what i wanted.
As for the paperclip, I will attempt something a little more "professional" looking to mount in the dash....
I may be doing a hand-laid Fiberglass custom dash for this project. I will keep updated here on what i end up doing and will start a thread when the time is right.
Though, I am still waiting for a Dev to chime in saying "Hey, those options are in my kernel..." lol

I recently installed my galaxy tab 2 into my car and I can tell you that numbers 1 2 and 4 are certainly possible.
In my case, my cigarette lighters never turn off. Even when there is no power in the car on the lighters still work. So I had to have someone wire one of them to the ignition.
1 I use tasker to power the screen on, launch poweramp and enable bluetooth when the car is turned on. I already set it in the developer options to not turn the screen off when charging so that wasn't a problem.
2 When it loses a charge (when I turn off the car) It kills poweramp, copilot GPS, turns off bluetooth and turns off the screen
3 I'm using paranoid android 2.52 and it takes about 30 seconds to boot
4. It's pretty easy to disable the lockscreen, its in the settings under security. Just change the screen lock to none.
One thing I would like to know is if there is a way to power on the tab 2 when it receives power. For instance my gsII and HP touchpad power on a few seconds after a charger is connected to them if they are powered off

This is also an idea i have playing around with in my head. Currently i have a 2000 Chevy Impala and my 7" Tab 2 fits perfect in the stock stereo area. i do use it and my ipod to listen to music thru a cheap iSimple FM modulator that I bought thru Amazon.....i just havent mustered up the balls to actually install it as a head unit. Heres a few links to some installs i found online...maybe they can help a bit.

HDMI Question

Before I go out and buy an HDMI cable I had a quick question. If I output an Android game or emulator to the TV does the screen on the Shield turn off or can it be set to turn off to save battery? I think seeing the screen mirrored in front of me would be annoying and waste battery.
Thanks.
I have not looked for a way to turn off the android screen, but by default it stays on.

Most android games (and the operating system, itself) are going to have some touch controls involved, in one way or another. I agree it would save battery life, but it's not really "annoying" to have the screen mirrored on your shield. Especially when you have to use touch controls once in a while.
You could try turning the screen brightness to min or something. I don't think that affects the screen brightness on your TV, but I guess it might.
Yeah, i was mostly referring to emulators I guess. I'll probably pick one up and give it a try. I remember my Transformer Prime being able to stream movies with the screen off which is why I was curious. I no longer have that though nor the cable....I'm not even sure it was the same type of HDMI cable either.

TF300T Display broken (maybe touch too) trying to cast in computer

Hello!
I own a TF 300T wich was bought a year and a half ago. A year ago the display appeared broken and since today I didn't did a further investigation on "what is broken".
I have tried using the search option, didn't find my problem there.
The screen is cracked (or I think), it seems to turn on but I can only see some white light and the crack itself.
The touch screen is in perfect state (or it seems to) but since I can't see anything I don't know how to check if it works, I touch everything and there is no hepatic response.
I tryed to use [email protected] but my device is not recognized but I can acces the internal storage from windows (7), may be usb debugg is not ticked =S
The tablet is not rooted and the bootloader is not unlocked.
All I wan't to know is if the touch is working for only buy the LCD display on ebay, since I can't buy at this moment the touch digitizer (I have to pay 85% of taxes that my country, Argentina, wants to take from me).
I don't know if connectin the mini HDMI to an HDMI capable monitor/tv will help me since I don't own the needed cable (and maybe these is the best way).
Maybe there is a way to cast the tablet screen by some other way.
I just want to know your opinion to avoid throwing money away for something that wont work.
Thanks a lot and kind regards.

You could try a VNC app to view on the computer you srcreen via WiFi, but idk how you will open it and set it up.. The HDMI is a good idea, and the cable is only a few dollars , but I would suggest just replacing the digitizer or buying a new tablet. :crying:
