[Q] Windows Phone 7 / Zune Update and Outlook Sync - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
first I wanna thank all of you guys for this awesome Forum.
I've recently flashed the WP7 ROM to my HD2 and it works totally great.
Now my question concerning the Outlook sync.
I don't want to sync my Outlook data to the web like Hotmail, Google etc.
Is there anyway to get a workaround for that?
I was thinking of using the Fileexplorer or the USB Masstorage trick to get a Outlook csv File on the phone.
Is there a chance to sync the phone with this file, when I copie it there?
Further, does anyone of you guys know, if Microsoft has planned to update Zune or WP7 for a straight USB-Sync Outlook support ?
Sorry for my English and thanks in advance

I'm in the same boat as you..
Why on God's Green Earth can I not do anything I need to do with this phone???
Yes I understand Microsoft needed to go in a new direction for speed and functionality.. But you should have left active sync alone.. Also given me MyPhone capabilities.. at the very least..
So now what can I go?
Can I create some hotmail account just for syncing my outlook calendar and contacts?
Anyone???

Activesync Replacement

Hi all,
Does anyone know of an alternative to Activesync that allows the direction of sync'ing to be specified.
Our users are struggling with Activesync as deleting a contact from their device also results in the contact being deleted from their Outlook account next time they sync.
I'm looking for something that will sync everything to the device, but not delete from Outlook should any changes be made on the mobile device.
Phone in question is a Wizard.
Thanks.
Nick.
Does the lack of response mean that nothing is available like this?
Have you looked at Intellisync or PocketMirror for WinMobile? I'm certain both have that ability.
http://www.sync.com/is_desktop_main.html <-- Intellisync
http://www.chapura.com/pmp_wm.php <-- Pocket Mirror
exactly what i was looking for
Pocket Mirror is way better.
and also found exactly what i needed LivePIM to sync PalmOS to PPC, and vice versa
A free alternative to activesync if you just want to keep your calendar synchronised is to use Google Calendar in the middle.
Google calendar can be set up to synchronise with Outlook using the Google Calendar Sync software. I then use the freeware version of OggSync to synchronise Google Calendar with my Windows Smartphone.
It works for me!

Help with Synching Outlook/PDA

With all the high end questions and support I feela little silly but can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Is it possible to do a selective synchronization between Outlook (2007) and my Smartphone (T-mobile Dash w/WM6)?
I want to have all of my contacts in the outlook contacts folder but only want to sych specific contacts to my Dash. So my Outlook would have all my friend, relatives, business contacts, old info, etc. but I only want to synch my business contacts to my Dash..
I am running Vista Ultimate, Outlook 2007, and using Microsoft Mobile Device center which works great to synch everything...
Possible?? Need 3rd party app...
TIA all!

[Q] Sync Outlook with Android

Hi,
Apologies if Im posting in the wrong section or asking something that's been answered before.
I'm new to the Android scene with an Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) and I want to sync contacts, calenders and notes stored in Outlook 2003 by connecting to my PC via USB. What tools are there out there that works like Active Sync?
Thanks.
Sync Outlook with Android
yes i was looking for that to...someone?
Thks
i think the best you can hope for is to export your contacts from outlook, and import them into your gmail account.
you can use google calender sync (search google) this will sync your outlook calender and gmail calender.
I'm not familiar with that phone, but it comes with 2.1 right? You can use the 'email' app to sync up with your exchange server. I don't think it will sync notes, but it can sync up contacts, email, and appointments.
You could also try touchdown from the market. http://www.appbrain.com/app/exchange-for-android-2-x/com.nitrodesk.droid20.nitroid
It costs $20 after the trial, but works really well and will sync up everything you're looking for.
Thanks for the replies so far.
I don't want to sync with gmail, as sometimes I work offline, therefore need sync directly with Outlook. Also don't use Exchange, this is standard alone Outlook.
I've read HTC have a similar tool (HTC Sync ?) for Active Sync. Will this work on a San Francisco, which runs Android 2.1?
You need to downoal the program MyPhoneExplorer and connect your phone to USB, then follow the instuctions. To my mind this is the best free soft avaliable out there.

[Q] Get contacts/txts/etc onto HD7 from the MyPhone service?

Microsoft wouldn't have forgotten this? Right...? :-(
I've traded up from my HD2 to an HD7. One of the features I loved on the old phone was sync'ing all my stuff up to the myphone.microsoft.com service. So I can keep old content, will always have my contacts and so forth.
But as much as I look around the HD7, I can't find any way to sync it to get my stuff on the new phone. I can't download the myphone software as WP7 doesn't recognise Cab files and the new windowsphone.live.com doesn't have any back up features just overview of the services on your phone like Xbo and Facebook account.
Seriously, Microsoft wouldn't have gotten their long standing WinMo customers reliant on their amazing back-up service and then just cast us out into the unbacked up snow would they?
Any help is much appreciated!!!

*I promise I did try to do some searching before posting, but any search term with 'my' and 'phone' in doesn't return any helpful results
Your contacts will sync from your Windows Live Account (Ie your Hotmail Contacts).
I assume you can export from MyPhone to Hotmail?
I did think of that but it doesn't seem to be working. The account overview screen says Windows Live covers hotmail, xbox, photos and contacts but there's no option to tick contacts in the setup screen just email.
I also use an Exchange server but there's no contacts on there as my HD2 would only let you sync contacts from one or the other and I chose myphone.
Anythign else I can try - even if it's a way to export contacts and text messages from the HD2 and manually drop them into the HD7?
Djac
Here's what I did.
1. Backed up all my contacts with DotFred's PIM Backup just in case.
2. Disconnected syncing with MyPhone.
3. New local sync connection with Outlook.
4. Synced Outlook with Windows Live using the Windows Live Connector for Outlook.
5. Synced contacts on my WP7 from Live.
Sure, it's reaching around your elbow to scratch your ass but it only took me about 5 minutes tops.
I don't have WP7 yet, but on the MyPhone website, you can set certain data to restore to the phone on the next sync.
MyPhone is a Windows Mobile 6.5 service, it has nothing to do with WP7.
WP7 puts everything in the cloud so you don't need to back up the phone.
Use the Outlook connector for hotmail to sync from Outlook to Hotmail, then connect your WP7 phone to hotmail and all will be well. Emails, contacts and calendar will sync up to your phone.
I was hoping Myphone communicated with windowsphone.live.com, but that wasn't the case. I had to pirate Outlook 2007, since Outlook 2010 was unable to sync via WMDC on W7 64 bit.
I then exported my contacts to a .csv from Outlook 2007 and imported to my new live-account that I was going to use with my WP7 device.
My phone would then sync the contacts when logged in to my live-account.
someone else posted this before so they get the credit:
www.soocial.com
Create an acct with any email address. Follow the instructions to download the cab to your phone and install. Sync your contacts to soocial. Cancel that sync relationship and sync to your windows live acct.
You can sync 250 contacts this way without paying for it.

I was able to sync my Tilt2 with Outlook 2010 via WMDC and I'm using Windows 7 as well.
The issue is with 64 bit.
Windows 7 64 bit + Office 2010 64 bit or W7 64 bit + Office 2010 32 bit. I'm not sure if 32 bit Outlook would work, but I decided to go for Outlook 2007 to be sure.

Yea, I meant to notate that I'm using Windows 7 x64 as well.
I'm using win7 32 bit, so sholdnt be an issue.
Obviously I can manually put in my contacts, but I'd still be missing text messages so it's not quite ideal.
Am I just being a whinger who's hoping for a magic pixie? it's okay to say if I am!

You don't need to use myphone or outlook. All you need is your winmo 6.5 device and windows live.
http://windowsphone7central.com/news/guide_how_to_easily_transfer_your_windows_mobile_contacts_to_your_windows_phone_7_device-11-09-10.php
Those are the instructions I used. My tilt2 sent everything up into the cloud to my live account, which then automagically dropped right back down onto my Focus. This copied over my contacts (including their pictures) and my calendar.
No software required. Didn't even have a sim in the tilt2. Sent it up to the cloud over wifi. Gotta love it.
Microsoft has another device portal that it will use for WP7. It will be similar to MyPhone. MyPhone isn't supported on WP7.

And that device portal will be available when or where? It's really a pain that you can't backup your text messages. I want to throw out my HD7 (this device just sucks big time with so many device specific problems) and exchange it for an Omnia 7, but I really want to backup my texts before so I can restore them... I haven't found any way yet to do so my e-mail and contacts are synced with Exchange and I can backup the music and pictures with Zune... but my texts...

Sync between Android / WinMo

Hey
Is there any app out there wich could sync all PIM-Data like SMS,Contacts etc. to Android? I'd love an app that does this since I've got Android on my HD2?
If there isn't any software, I'll try to develop some on my own, but first I need to know a few things:
- how do get the messages (Mail and SMS) in WinMo (.net cf)
- and how to restore them??
- how to register an app to run before shutdown and as startup on android?
Thanks
Chabun
Did you try to use MyPhoneExplorer for syncing Outlook contacts to your Android ?
Hi,
I've search alot around to do that, tryed ogg synch and other stuff,
but now I've found that this way to synch android and winmo is the best (for me):
don't use outlook anymore on my pc instead I've created a gmail accound and use calendar , contact... exactly like on outlook but online.
On htc winmo I've made an activesync account with google server (m.google.com) and synch everything exept tasks.
And on htc Andro synch with google account.
Everyhing works ...

How can you possibly hope to use Android fully without a data plan
Google Sync will do just this !
Yes, i just stumbled onto this:
http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
I just set up my active sync with m.google.com (follow the instructions, old, but still work) on my Window mobile, did one sync for everything except my email.
That part of it OK, i reboot to Android (MCCM Desire HD), synch my stuff there (using this same gmail address) and yes, all my contacts show up, contacts with multiple numbers, pictures (girls!) included, wow, just wow...
Give it i try, i'll go see if it actually synchs the calendar, my messages from winmo do not show up though.
Edit: sorry, i guess aegidios2 beat me to it, well here are the instructions, if you have no data plan, surely you can sync using Wifi ?
Update: Yes, i tested, it also syncs the calendar back from Android to WinMo, then Outlook pops op on my computer, informing me about the appointment i put in the calendar, wow, i am hooked !

I can do that, yes, but I want to be able to switch between them at any time - even if I'm not at home and no free wlan net is in reach!

Since there were only f****** expensive offers when I bought my hd2....
So I'm currently trying to develope an app for that, but I'm stuck on creating sms on WinMo (I tried the InTheHandSDK, but on my HD2 (latest Artemis ROM with WM 6.5.3) it crashes and in the emulator it fails to store the body of the sms). Does anyone know how to do that??
So I think there's no app which can handle that...
Now I'm wondering if anybody else would like to have such an app?
And I have still the problems with reading/restoring sms (on winmo), anyone who could help me?
Did you try mIQ, search for it on google
Only downside is you can sync only one device
I use Google Calendar Sync and Contacts Sync.
Done completely offline via your home PC. Works flawlessly as long as you have Outlook on your home PC.

Hey guys,
my conclusion to this thread is, there's no (portable) alternitive way of syncing with your 3g-network, if there's no app.
And that's the point, imagine you're on the beach abroad with your phone in your palm but currently winmo is running. So you start android and after a few seconds (SuperRAM is awsome) - f**** the sms from your GF/BF is not there...
Noway to sync with the net if you aren't a millionaire (roaming is s....).
And that's why I need an app, so I started to develop. I alreadey managed to get ceampi succesfully working. My winmo client is nearly finished. Now I need some android gurus to help me.
So anyone interested outthere willing to help? I need to know how to read all mesages stored in the folders (inbox, drafts etc.) and how to create new messages which are stored there as well.
Thanks
