I've been using a step-by-step for compiling an EVO kernel as reference. I would assume that the ARM compiler I'm using would cover that.
Any additional insight? ...perhaps something more verbose?
EDIT: The fix was EXTRA_AFLAGS=-mfpu=neon
Now I'm having problems. What toolchain did you use? I keep getting zImage errors with the codesourcery prebuilt toolchains. Missing libgcc.a.
MR source is up. see the op link

If you click the link it does give a lot of information about features and governors. It looks like it could use an update tho, as the changelog is from 7/12 and only references the Incredible2.

the configuration of the kernel will determine what it is for, you can take htc source and build a cm7 kernel or vice-versa, you just need to make sure the config is correct for cm7 or sense or whatever you are building for, aosp/miui/cm7 use basicly the same configurations, sense, or other manufacturer made software can require special configuration.
you can pull the .config from your device as a starting point also make sure you use the gcc-4.4.0 toolchain when you build.
if you need more help you can pm me and if i can help i will
good luck

Maaaan you guys are freakin smart
Power to yeah man, it will take two changes to get it to compile, one is in the bionic folder with the e_pow.c file if memory serves right and the other i cant recall ATM. Ill post what changes i made after work in about 10 hours. And after flashing i got a bootloop
Edit : now that im not half asleep and my brain is working i think know my problem with booting, I'm putting my money on it being that some of the kernel options the guide says to make causes errors during compile, again after work when i get home and at my Ubuntu install ill post the 2 changes i had to make that the guide doesn't list and what options the compile error'ed on with the kernel. And maybe we might want to get a discussion topic going over in the general forum to get all the info about Ubuntu phone on our One S
Edit 2: home now, went in to the configs, and looked agian, there all there....must of been real tired last night and failed using "find"..... fixed it now compiling agian as i type this, and as for the changes i had to make this is what worked for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38399789&postcount=9

As you all know, HTC released the AOSP ICS 3.0.16 kernel source code for our beloved bolt. I have spent well over 30 hours trying to get it to compile. When it failed to compile every time, I thought it must have been something done wrong on my part. I completely re-setup my build environment, tried 4 different toolchains (finally found one that will work) made several defconfigs, and checked my path in my bashrc file at least 25 times.
So, it took some doing, but i got it compile.. for a couple minutes, then stopped. I research the errors I was getting and realized all of my errors were not my fault, but HTC's! They put out kernel source code that cannot even be compiled as-is! But dont worry, I am fixing all of the bugs, one-by-one as they pop up, and remember, this is just for ICS, there are several other devs working on JB with better progress from patching the kernel up to .82.
So, if you are working on the kernel as well or want to learn more about it, post any questions, concerns, and contribute to the development here! :good:

More work? I switched and it compiled right away. I was doing the more work version fixing it lol. HTC uses code and tools from 1981. Change BAD! Sadly it's a corporate motto...
And what readme? I got the source from HTC and it didn't come with one.

I think the issue some were having was not setting the top path to the right location. I haven't tried using another toolchain yet but some of the newer toolchains needed some extra work to fix build errors.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to first before governors, schedulers, and then (for the love of God HTC...) updating the linux core.

I set my top path to /android/system and the the path to the toolchain they provide and it works great.

I build completely isolated from the android source.
And it's on a Mac. I think I just like the abuse...
