[Q] Do you have my back? Senior Thesis. - General Questions and Answers

I've proposed my thesis by bragging on support the online development community is so gracious to supply, in particular those in support of Open Source.
My plans to develop a fairly complicated application for my senior thesis seem daunting for 12 weeks. The only way I will feel confident enough to pull this off is if I have a communities support.
Are you there for this stranger?

Other forums for developers?

Hi guys!
I'm a Community Manager from a company named ARLab and we work on Augmented reality. If you are interested in this technology you can check my recent forum threads in the developer's forums. That is not why i'm posting this though. My job is to promote the software that we create in the online developer's community and i have to say this community has been great and you're among our top visiting sources, and i'm very happy about that. So the thing is that in other forums i have not been as successful as i have here. I was wondering if any of you knew other developers forums that are as active as this.
Thanks a lot for the help and good luck developing!

[Q] Q about making an informal survey about XDA users

My question is partially for site moderators (this kind of thing isn't breaking any rules is it?), but anyone with feedback for me would be much appreciated.
I'm currently taking a college statistics course and have a requirement to conduct a survey as a class project (lame, I know). My question (basically the TL;DR of this post) is whether it would be appropriate to post a link to a Google Docs form or something similar for the purposes of asking some basic questions about the users of this site, with all answers being anonymous and the intention of posting the results for anyone who wants to see?
I realize that the forum already offers the option to post a poll, however it seems that you can only ask one question at a time, and I'm more interested in making a small, quick survey of say, 10-15 questions. That being said, if it would be better for me to simply make several polling posts in their respective categories, please let me know.
A few of the questions I would ask are age (broken down into several broad categories, no specifics), gender and region (North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania/Australia, etc.) in order to establish basic demographic stuff, and then questions about modding/developing habits. Some samples might be:
'What is your interest in XDA-Developers? Development, community, education, or resources for tweaking your devices'
'What kind of modifications do you usually make to your devices? Rooting, custom ROM, custom kernel, custom recovery, or more app-based customization'
'If you are a developer (and another question for end users), how long have you been involved in creating software? Days, weeks, 2-6 months, 7-12 months, 1-3 years, or even longer'
In addition to multiple-choice questions, I would ask a few more open-ended questions such as 'What brought you into the smart-device development space?'
Being only a student project, my aim is not to be too caught up in obtaining a representative sample (I realize the people willing to take such an informal survey may be very few), or attempting to make broad statements about XDA users, but merely as more of a curiosity. In addition, I will post a small analysis of the responses under the same thread, for anyone interested, but I will not submit or publish this info to any other public entity, nor will I ask for people's identifying information such as name, email, or anything else beyond basic demographics. If I receive ten responses, that's fine, if I receive a hundred, awesome.
In essence, would a post of this type be acceptable somewhere on the forums, and if so, is there a best sub-forum under which to post it? Does anyone have any feedback or criticism about this project? Thanks for any responses, and while I haven't yet been active on the forums (I believe this is my first post), I have been reading, learning, and absorbing the information on this site for some time, and have found the expertise of this user base in my own journeys in modifying my devices invaluable.

[Completed] [Q] XDA Developers Collaborative Innovation Survey/Questionnaire?

Hi all, I would like to ask community members to take part in a short survey designed to understand the dynamics of innovation collaboration processes between user communities such XDA Developers and device manufacturers.
In particular looking at assessing the degree to which external innovation communities contribute to the internal innovation output of Android smartphone and tablet device hardware and software manufacturers.
What is the best way to go about doing this?
Posting in the general forum or in specific device sub forums?
I would love to get as many respondents as possible so perhaps someone could point me in the direction of an official news author?
Any help much appreciated!

Greetings,
Please be sure to read the sticky threads for XDA Assist. This is not a help desk. Our purpose here is to assist new members in finding their way around XDA. We provide a link to the best forum or a thread already in existence for the issues at hand. Senior members are expected to know how to use search and find the best location for their questions. That being said, your thread would be best suited in the General section of XDA.
Thanks for understanding.

Mazda - Final Resolution

As many in the XDA community are aware, Mazda lost his Recognized Developer (RD) title and has been publicly unhappy with that decision. Because he chose to state his grievances in a public thread, we decided that a public thread was the best way to address them.
His complaint has been thoroughly analyzed and discussed within the Developer Committee (DC), among the Senior Moderator body, and with site ownership and administration. The way of removing his title was questionable and we would like to apologize to him that it hasn’t been done in an official way. Even though one of his complaints was that Jerdog “went rogue”, it should be known that Jerdog has been his biggest supporter within the DC throughout his time on XDA. When Mazda was found to have kanged code from Androidhive's "Android Building Free Wallpapers App" guide without credits to create his Papuh wallpaper app, the DC considered removing his RD title immediately. However, Jerdog personally requested he keeps the title at the time out of respect for Mazda’s ongoing contributions. When the committee recently decided that it was time to remove his title, Jerdog, acting as a delegate of the committee and out of the relationship the two had formed, decided to reach out to him through Hangouts as a more personal medium. That was a bad decision. In the future, we will communicate through more official channels.
We also saw that he was unhappy with the “Former Recognized Developer” title. At the time, we decided that the usual “Retired Recognized Developer” title did not apply, but Jerdog thought it would be insulting to change him back to Senior Member. So, out of respect, he made it Former RD. Our apologies for not making that clearer at the time and for going off-policy.
The reason the title was revoked was due to Mazda not upholding the Developer Code of Conduct. The final deciding factor is that, as stated in our minimum requirements, RDs are expected to be active within the community and provide/maintain development projects. Not only was his last on-site development contribution over six months ago, but he was (and still is) actively forbidding other developers from posting official builds of his team’s ROM here. We're still not totally sure of his stance on unofficial builds, but many of the changes we are making to our rules in the next couple weeks will give him (and all developers) much more control over their brands on XDA. RDs are reviewed periodically, and after looking at the above, he wasn’t delivering an expected level of involvement on XDA and so the title was rescinded.
Even though our decision to remove his title still stands, we’ve decided on further consideration to give him the Retired RD title because we recognize the contributions he makes toward the Android community and we respect that. Also, after six months of active, on-site development activity, he is welcome to use our Recognized Developer application to reapply for the RD title. Again, here are the minimum requirements.
We specifically recommend:
Being active by developing on XDA
following forum rules
trying to avoid on and off-site arguments concerning XDA members
resolving the issues politely in private
being reasonable about things
We started the RD program years ago to give a little recognition and a few perks to the developers who were making XDA awesome. The fact that something so simple has caused so much heartache has even made us consider eliminating titles altogether-- but that didn't feel right either. So, we're in a sucky situation, and we're sure many of you are going to find a thousand reasons why this is outrageous. All we can say is we're doing our best. We'll even acknowledge that some of Mazda's loudest pronouncements against the site are in fact leading to positive change. @Mazda has been notified about this thread both by the mention and the private message.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
