[Q] Rooting and Tethering on T-Mobile... Free if Rooted? - General Questions and Answers

I know that T-Mobile charges for Wifi Hotspot and USB Tethering. However, I was wondering that since I'm rooted and running CM7, which has tethering and hotspot options available, will T-Mobile know that I'm running these processes or is it free for me since I'm not running their software on my G2?

[Q] Datapro tethering, how to use?

I just got my Samsung Skyrocket today and I have the Datapro 4G with tether plan but I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually tether it, there doesn't seem to be any official AT&T tethering app and none of the ones on the market work since the phone's not currently rooted, does anyone know how to do it?
Go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Tethering & Portable Hotspot

internet tethering without root phone and undetectable by carriers

just downloaded it tonight. runing great.got 4g speed tethering,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Android hacker Koush makes mobile internet tethering undetectable by carriers

Sooo what's the difference between this one and all the other ones? Currently on my phone I have both the Wired Tether and Wireless Tether apps (neither available on the marketplace but easy to find in the right places). I've never gotten a message from ATT once about tethering - and I do it more often than not, using just the Wireless Tether app. Averaging 4 GB a month total data (tether and legit non-tether data combined)
Kudous to Koushik for getting a workaround like that, but the necessity of a laptop kind of puts the kibosh on it for me since I'd use the hotspot feature for tablets mainly.
^^ agreed. wifi tether trumps usb tether. main reason i rooted in the first place. but good to know that non root options exist.

[Q] Wifi hotspot/Mobile AP

So I'm looking at going from the Samsung Vibrant (rooted) to the new One S. One thing that I love on the Vibrant is the Mobile AP (wifi hotspot) feature from the root. Does anyone know about wifi hotspot on the One S? Is this going to be available out of the box? Additional charge to use? Or will I have to root the phone again to get "free" wifi hotspot? Thanks!
It's available out of the box, but here's the thing:
It COULD be the "rigged" hotspot that contacts T-Mo and tells them what's up. It's even called T-Mobile Hotspot in the app drawer. I'm not trusting it. I'll wait for CM9 to get better and use the native tethering that doesn't possibly phone home.
It is called "mobile hotspot" in the app drawer and yes you will need to buy the wifi tether from t-mobile for 14.99/ month. but they are offering it for free right now.
You can always root and install OpenGarden or another root-required tethering app. That may be a way to get around T-Mo's "phone-home" tethering.
I'm looking forward to CM9 becoming fully functional for this phone, and consequently, rigged-free tethering. The way it SHOULD be.

Verizon and Wifi tether for ROOT users question

hi, i haven't used my phone for a wifi hotspot in a very long time on verizon. i saw the thread about using Wifi tether for ROOT users with the s3. I'm currently on the grandfathered unlimited plan. Can anyone that has used Wifi tether for ROOT users on their android verizon phones recently confirm that verizon doesn't know you are using the wifi hotspot without paying and doesn't charge you? I plan to only use it rarely (ie: cable modem service goes out, on vacation with slow hotel wifi service for laptop etc), thanks!

I use FoxFi. I haven't been charged. It is basically the same concept as Wii for root.
I've used wifi for root both on my GS3 and before I upgraded on a DInc. Never been charged. Data is data, they can't tell how you use it.
Neither of these apps have worked for my rooted Verizon S3, niether will broadcast the signal even though it says it is running, however, I have not had a problem with wifi for root on my nexus.

Rooted Galaxy Tab 7.7 with android 4.2.1 jellybean bypass at&t tethering check

Am i going on holiday to usa and want to bring my tabled to use it for tehering to my Phone and my friends phones.
I understood that thethering is allowed with the 6gb plan but i think that wont be enough for 3 weeks.
So I wanted to get the unlimited plan and tether using my tabled but tethering does not seem to be allowed with this plan.
I read some solutions using xposed framework and other programmes but I also read that AT&T checks the ssl packets to detect if you are tethering.
So adjusting the IPtables is also a must. Can I do this on my rooted galaxy tab 7.7 with android 4.1.2 stock? Anyone have experience doing so?
I also have a jailbroken Iphone which has tether bypass tweak on it. Maybe I should just stick with that?

EDIT: For now I downloaded PDANET and VPN to try it...
