[Q] ota simple root 1click for evo - General Questions and Answers

i have been on the fence on wether i should root or not and i think i am ready to root my evo. i have been doing some research and it looks like i have two options that would be best. i could dowload the sdk and root my phone that way or i could download the ota simple root 1click version 1.47.651.1. i saw a video on the simple root that had 4 clicks and then you had to go to extras and flash a recovery. it all seamed pretty simple but when i went to download the ota simple root file, instead of giving me 4 buttons it only gave me 2. it said it was the lastest version and so i went with it. i clicked the root button and it pulled up the command box and started doing it thing but after pushing the files it said that the adb was outdates and it was killing it got an error and it tried again went to pushing the pc36 said the adb was out of date again and gave error then continued to push the flash file os somthing like that.... and again it said adb out of date killing but gave error tried again and again and again... ect. until it went to red screen telling me when my phone screen had skating adroid men on it push power button to reboot and so on..... push any key to continue but phone never went to screen with android men. went over the whole process again and this time when red screen came up i did a factory reset and still nothing happened except for when it got to my home screen it said please wait while loading my take awhile then went to white screen with just htc and then back to home screen. i know this seems like a lot but the more thorough the better. can anyone help or point in the right direction? THANK YOU!!!

I'm not sure if z4root/unrevoked or SuperOneClick work on your device but you can investigate that easily enough. All of these are 1-click methods.

[Q] Sanyo Zio Sprint Help Please

So I decided that I wanted Android 2.2 Froyo on my sanyo zio and after many hours and tons of work I finally thought I found a way to do it. Rooted the device with Z4 root then ran clockworks rom manager in order to "update" my device. Well I did not see my device on the list and just as I went to click the back button my touch screen decided to be picky and pick one of the random phones on that list. It started the flash and I began to relax a bit (figuring if it was going to brick it would have done it right away) and near the end the phone shut off and still will not boot past the "sanyo" screen.
Is there any way to boot it into a recovery mode so i can put the factory OS back on it? And if so is there a way to put 2.2 froyo on this device?
yes and no
im thinking you can go to boot loader mode by hiting power button and holding a a few bottons randomly i found differnent types of loaded pages by doing this in different ways so if you can get in the correct boot loader you could probely get a spf or something

Power off the phone, hold volume up, end, trackball and power. that should get you in to fastboot mode.
Hopefully you have or can get a hold of the boot.img and system.img for your zio (is it sprint? cricket? if it's cricket, i can help you out with the img files).
google for the fastboot binary and put it in your tools folder of the android sdk.
"fastboot -h" will give you commands you can use to reflash the boot and system img.
I have to say though, after reading your OP, the carelessness at which you went after "getting Froyo", you're going to have a tough time of this.
Sanyio ZIO on Cricket
I want to Root my Kyocera Sanyio ZIo on Cricket's service. This is something that I have never done before. My andriod software has been updated. I have been looking all over the interent and there are a million links and blogs but they are all designed for some one who has actually done this before. There is not real "rooting for dummies" guide that goes step by step and really explains each step. I have download all sorts of apps (busybox, file browesr, ROM Manager and system app remover) but none of these grant me superuser access.
My latest research make me believe I need to enter the phone form a "Safe Mode" to upload a zip (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) that my new File browesr will not open as it says it is "broken file can not be opened".
Can some one please assist me wit this? my email is [email protected]
Thank you for your time,
Joshua

[Q] A CHallenge for Developers (partial brick) Please Help

[SOLVED]
MESSAGE TO DEVELOPERS/ANYONE WHO CAN HELP
Long story short, i edited my build.prop incorrectly and reset (yes i know very stupid) now my motorola cliq opens up to the motoblur screen but repeated messages saying "Sorry! the process X has shut down" show up.
Literaly, nearly nothing can open up but i am able to enter usb mode if i fight with the endless popups. i can also enter recovery mode because my phone was rooted before this. The problem is that my recovery image doesnt have any options that could help me
(reboot, apply sd card:update.zip, and wipe data/factory reset)
i've tried putting an official motorola update.zip onto my sd card then running the apply.. but like i told you before my build.prop is messed up a little so an error shows up saying:
Installing update...
E/:Failure at line 1: assert file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=motorola/morrison_two_us/morrison/morrison:1.5/CUPCAKE/1.4.8:user/rel-keys" == "true" || file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=MOTO/morrison_two_us/moInstallation aborted
Press Menu+Back to reboot
All i need to do is fix the line of code i messed up but i cant reach my systems files,...i attached my original build.prop and a copy of my corrupted one to show you.. I also cannot use the phone service or network service (even wifi) because like i said, nearly ALL the services are unable to stay on, they immediately shut off at startup.
Ways to fix this would be to REACH/EDIT THE SYSTEMS FILES
1. I cant use an app like root explorer since i cant access any apps on my phone even things like my settings
2. Turn on usb debugging somehow (I cant access my settings app so im lost on this one)
1. ingenious DESKTOP program that can somehow access my phone's system files without adb (if it can access the sd there has to be a way..)
3. Ive looked around to maybe find a custom image recovery that had options like editing system files (shouldn't be hard to make..) but ive found none with that option and im not sure how i would install it without adb...
What i CAN do
1. ENTER USB MODE (that has to count for something so Developers Please help me)
2. I can play with the motoblur intro screen to some degree to make it go away, then a blank black home menu appears. If i wait a while for the popups to stop at the motoblur screen, i follow the instructions but it gets stuck at registering a new account or existing one since you need network access.
3. ENTER REVOVERY MODE (but the only option that looks helpful is the sdcard update which gave me an error...) I havent tried the wipe data/factory reset because the factory reset doesnt touch the build.prop so its pointless
WHat should I do? WHoever sees this please give me advice or direct me somewhere to get it... THANK YOU
[EDIT]
BTW what i was trying to do on the build.prop was replace this line (ro.build.fingerprint=generic/sdk/generic:3.2/HTJ85B/140714:eng/test-keys)
with (ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/release-keys)
but i messd up and put
(ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.1-update1/ESE81/29593:user/rel)
youll see this in the attachments...what this does is unlock my 1.5 firmware market to ALL the apps (updating to the official 2.1 using recovery wouldve handled this but i didnt even know of this update till after my mistake)
I just thought id mention...
if you have adb abilities you can push the old build.prop. If you do not know a out this then post back and I will help you.You said you can enter recovery, but that is stock original recovery that anyone can get access to. If you ever bootstrapped your phone you can try pull the battery out, wait about 10 seconds, then plug your phone charger in without the battery in. If your bootstrappped this will pull you into a more advanced recovery mode. The last option is to use rsd lite to flash an sbf to your phone if nothing else works. If you have never done this just look up sbfing motor cliq to stock.
Good luck, and remember to thank me if this helped
SOLVED!!
I fixed my phone on my own but THANKS to rootfan for being the first to answer.
HERES HOW:
I was able to access recovery mode and from there i discovered the sd update option.
It took hours of research and work but i learned alot about adb, motorola, cliq, etc.
Anyway, i originally found the Blur_Version.2.1.5.MB200.T-Mobile.en.US.zip and i tried to put that in my sd card (i could get into it from the phone) but when i tried to update using recovery it gave me an error so i decided to try the "latest 1.5 with Blur 1.6.1" which was actually very hard to find... you can get it here
motorola. com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/sdcards/US-EN/tmo/cliq/downgrade-to-cupcake .html
Lastly, i put that on my sd as update.zip, went into recover, and the update was SUCCESSFUL! MY PHONE REBOOTED AND NOW IS ACTING NORMAL AGAIN. Now, im trying to update to the Android™ 2.1 (Eclair):
motorola. com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/sdcards/US-EN/tmo/cliq/2-1_index. html
but im still getting that error whether i update using recovery or the settings/about phone/system update option... Thats strange but my phone is still working normally and ill find a way to update to 2.1...
ONCE AGAIN THANKS TO ROOTFAN AND HOPEFULLY THIS POST WILL WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHO MAY BE HALF-BRICKED (no adb, no usb debug, no root explorer) THERS STILL HOPE IN RECOVERY+USB DRIVE+BLUR VERSION SOFTWARES
Thanks man, now this is probabaly a redicilous reply, since im sure you would have already tried this, but you can try going into settings, about phone, and click on update and see if the 2.1 eclair ota update will work on your phone.

[Q] T-Mobile Samsung Sidekick 4G - Bricked? Halp?

So, I believe I bricked my phone. I will explain in as much detail as I possibly can as to what I had done in hopes that someone can inform me of a way to save my poor Sidekick 4G.
I have rooted and installed custom ROMs on 3 other phones (T-Mobile G1, T-Mobile MyTouch Slide 3G, and a Verizon Samsung Continuum). I'm not entirely new to the process. I got a Sidekick 4G and decided to root it and attempt to get CWM on there so I could install a custom ROM. So, here is what I had done.
I used a program I believe is called SuperOneClick to gain root access to the phone. I opened up a file managing program that was also able to see root folders. I put a modified recovery.bin on the root of my SD card and used the file manager program to move and overwrite the recovery.bin in my system/bin folder. Instead of overwriting it, it just put it in there as recovery - COPY.bin. I attempted to rename it to recovery.bin and it didn't want to do it. I attempted to move recovery - COPY.bin back to my SD card and it failed. Whatever. Time to try a different file managing program. I open a new file managing program and it asks to use Bluetooth. It hangs up for about 3 minutes, at which time I went to the home screen and went back to the app. It is still hung up trying to turn on Bluetooth. I decide I should go ahead and help out, so I go back home, go to settings, and try to turn on bluetooth. It sits there and does nothing for about 3 minutes. My phone locks up, so I pull the battery out and put it back in to restart the phone.
"Dammit, Jessica. You ruined your phone." It doesn't start back up. It starts into the standard recovery mode. None of the four options available allow my phone to go past recovery.
So, super smart girl I am decides to use ODIN and try to flash stock Sidekick OS back to the phone. ODIN stops at about 10%-15% every single time and doesn't move forward. If I try to start the phone now, I don't even get recovery.
Anyone have any ideas that don't involve me throwing my phone into a rock quarry?

kies services? Excuse my ignorance, but what are those?
windows task manager, processes and search for processes who have kies in the name and close it, or just try in another pc.

I did the exact same thing up until that part. I had overwritten it, and rebooted the phone and attempted to install a custom rom. When i did so I had a robotic woman voice repeating "Convert system partition; System unavailable."
I googled that error, and found someone saying to use odin one click, and the one click I used apparently was for a different type of phone. And to make matters even worse, I unplugged my phone before it was completely finished, believing it had already finished. Now, when power is applied to my phone, (plugged into the computer, holding power button) All it does is make the screen light up a bit. I dont get a logo, i cant put it into download mode, I cant do anything, whatsoever. Any help?

[Q] stuck on start up screen

Well i kept on getting that annoying notice that i needed to update my firmware but i failed because im rooted and have a 1.6 kernel, well i thought i would go back to the original kernel via that kernel manager app that the widget looks like a popcorn, so ir attempted to reboot back and now its stuck on the start up screen., i downloaded the v=nvidia, placed the drivers did the power volume up midway it failed, went back and check the drivers updated them with the ones from asus website and it failed because something with the device. i also could not find the prime 1.4 rom all the ones i download had a million files besides the boot, recovery, system files after the zip, so downloaded some other rom compatible with nvidia and still no go...now i find out that my tablet is a b90 so this method might not work anyway......now what
What method did you use to root originally?
Did you install CWM recovery?
Can you still get into recovery?
Push and hold Vol down plus power button
wait till you see words at the left top corner prompting
Immediately push Vol up within 5 secs to get into recvoery
yea i used razorclaw after 8 hours of trying I hit the power and up button and accidently threw myself in clockwork recovery, wiped everything loaded last firmware from asus website and rebooted just fine, then over the air, i was scared so much of bricking my device that i just updated it, lost my 1.6 kernel back to 0 waiting on one click root for future, sad that i was never able to use the nvflash the drivers never installed properly....anyway its working now...and honestly thinking about what the real benefits of rooting are...I always find myself in trouble everytime i cant get an update having to spend millions of hours figuring out how to unroot to get an update.and reroot again...thank you again

Rogers LGP925 update is out :)

**EDIT**: After updating, if you see it is draining your battery quite quickly, and seems slower, simply restart your device and it will sort itself out.
Just successfully updated to the newest Rogers LGP925 firmware version 2.3.5
Head on over to update your phone with LG's Mobile Software updater today!
Don't be scared if your phone stays on the Rogers screen after update for a few minutes, as mine did aswell.
Do you have the kdz file link?
how do you update to your phone to this?
Does it matter that my phone is rooted?
You will lose root after the update and at the moment, you won't be able to get it back until a new exploit is found from what I've read.
You can update by downloading the LG Mobile Update tool from LG's site. It's not the best of programs but it does occasionally work.
here's link: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP925G/ARGSDB/V20c_00/V20C_00.kdz
Can someone help me I did the update on the lg updater thing I've wasted like god only knows how much bandwidth my phone does the update and everything seems ok go to turn on my phone and I'm stuck at the rogers logo and not for just a few mins I had it sitting there for 30mins and the screen will blink for 3 secs and back to the logo. I was on v21a and I did a recovery to downgrade. Guess that didn't work now I'm trying to install it through a kdz method but that's not working I'm stuck at trying to downgrade from 1.5.*.9 to 1.5*.8 well now the program wont install or open I've spent a few hours under other forms looking for solution but none are working (windows 7 64bit)
Edit: Never mind I fixed it.
Did anyone else have success with the update?
Worked for me once i did the fix for the lg update tool in the dev section.

For those having trouble...
I had boot loop after updating many times. You have to do a factory reset from emergency recovery to get it to boot. Do the following:
1. Flash with kdz or upgrade officially.
2. When at boot loop / stuck Rogers screen, pull battery to turn off phone
3. Press and hold HOME SOFT KEY then press and hold volume down key, then while still holding those 2 keys, press and hold power button until screen turns on (5-8 secs)
Then let go of all 3 buttons at the same time.
4. Wait and you should see a different LG recovery come up and it will ask you to factory reset.
5. Use volume keys to navigate to yes and do the reset.
Then reboot and the ROM should load.
There you have it. Worked for me everytime.
I did as crazycage suggested and it works perfect. So far I am liking it.

Rooting on Ubuntu (or OSx)
This is all fine and dandy, but it is kinda sad being stuck in this OS. My in-laws have this phone, so I am wondering if I can, easily, bring them to the present. What rom's do you recommend. Also, are there any step by steps any where for rooting their phone. I'd install CWM on their phone to maybe give them a little nicer UI. I'd install CM9 (or anything ICS really) on their phone. What I need first of all is a step by step to root, from there I will hit the ground running, my problem, the only ones I can find are the Windows One click exe thingies, which aren't much good on Ubuntu, any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

opened the .bat file, replaced all of the adb mentions with ./adb and ran the script manually.
all is well
off I go then.
