Is it possible to overclock (using setcpu or whatever) a stock Galaxy S. Mine is rooted, but I didnt want to stick a new rom or kernal on it if I didnt have to. Thanks.
No without a kernel that you CAN overclock, sorry.

+1
kernel should support overclocking

Hi all,
Anyone can post a Link for 5110 CUSTOM Kernel with UV/OC compatible stock rom 4.0.4 ?
Great thx :good:
The only kernel i know is Johnsel oc kernel and it is for cm10 and no undervolting
I think does not exist yet
Sent from Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Tab2
Kernel's have and use SmartReflex, so undervolting is pointless to have as the system does it by itself.

Unless you don't want SmartReflex jacking up your extra OPP's you've added for additional clock speeds.... But on a stock kernel or one with only one extra freq, your exactly right.
well
I understand for undervolting ...
And overclocking is possible on stock 4.0.4 rom?
It's a shame there is not more custom kernel ...
Up !?
Hello frends i am new to htc explore(not new to android).i am using stock indian rom with default kernel.i already rooted my rom.i want a kernel which work in stock rom and have NO bug and support ext partition and overclockable to more than 600mhz.thanks guys.
Welcome, there is no such kernel, mostly they are only 3 kernels for explorer, non of them works fine on stock rom, If you want stock, closest you can do is Ateeq's rom, then to clock it you have to flash yannou's kernel, which has OC but most of the guys sayed that it is fake OC, I think not but....... I'm a noob. So far what I figure out is cranium kernel, whit that you can clock it to 1307 which is fun for a while, but battery is just diyng with full clock. All of them supports ext partition.
Thanks.so cranium kernel work with stock Tom.
I have my doubts, anyway do a backup and try, I'm sure about yannou's and ateeq's they don't work with stock, when I tryed cranium, I've already forgot what stock was, so don't know but nowhere says that it wont, so it's up to you. My doubts are about stock, ti's odexed and that's why I'm not sure will it work corectly.
No kernels work with stock....only on custom roms..

Ok guys i want to install custom rom.plz suggest me a custom rom(ics based)?aokp or cm9?and what is the safe max frequency that we can overclock our phone?thanks

I personally recommend to try CM9, I've installed it yesterday and I can say there wasn't bugs(oh yeah, there was something, when I used phone in USB storage mode(plugged in to computer) Google Play wasn't working properly, it was force closing on the app startup. But this is nothing).
Ok thanks.can you tell me what is the max frequency which our phone can hold without any kernel panic.??

Sorry, exactly now, I'm using default CM9 kernel, so I can't say that.
So default cm9 kernel is not overclockable?i assume that all custom rom have overclockable kernel?

I thought it too, but setCPU shows max clock 600Mhz.

Ok then its not overclockable.i will check.thanks
Oc is not a gud idea..du to hvy battery drain..cm9 with oc is available..but not a stable one...

I have a TF101 with stock kernel/rom, with ICS 4.0.3, kernel 2.6.39.4 and compilation 9.2.1.27. I want to overclock the tablet, it it already rooted. How Do I do it? Thanks

Sorry to disappoint you, but you can't. You could overclock with a different kernel on the stock ROM, but if you want to stick with all stock, you're stuck at a stock levels. (Try saying that five times fast!)
--EDIT--
Sorry, I think I misread your post. Here are the instructions for overclocking from a stock install:
1. Flash a recovery. I use TWRP, but ClockworkMod is another common one.
2. Download and flash a kernel. Most ROMs come with their own, and almost all are overclockable. If you want to keep the stock OS, just look for a thread thats says [KERNEL][OC] or something along those lines in the development section.
3. Download SetCPU, NSTools, or something similar from the market. Then adjust to your liking.
4. Enjoy your overclock!

I would recommend using a kernel that is made for overclocking (I believe megatron's kernel is a good one) plus something like SetCPU.
Happy overclocking!

Great, Thank you both, I will try it.
I'm curious of whether it's okay to run no-frills CPU with stock JB, as it doesn't seem to have a CPU governor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911917
Is it recommended or needed?
Thanks!
On the stock kernel, it won't do you a ton of good... And you will have to be rooted to use it.
thanks, I'm rooted.
The reason it won't do me a good must have been that the stock already has a governor or something ???

Stock kernel doesn't allow for under/overclocking... I guess there are a couple of governors on the stock kernel, so you could change those around?
Custom kernels give you options like under/overclocking, different governors, different schedulers... etc.
So there's no reason you can't put NoFrills or any other CPU control app on a stock kernel, you just won't get a whole lot of choices with the stock kernel
as the title says. I tried kernel adiutor and it resets back to stock speeds

I see, and what kernel do you recommend? I'm not looking for anything but boosting battery life
I personally use nog33k kernel, gives me good battery life. You can find this in original development forum
