[Q] Odin3 - Stuck on "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET" - Captivate General

Need a little help. I'm in the process of testing out FF 2.04, coming from Andrometa. I'm trying to flash back to stock, but it's getting stuck in Odin3. I can get the phone in download mode, it just won't complete. Any ideas?
This is the output from odin:
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/004> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Normally this process goes quick, so I know something is out of whack. Thanks for any help!

My fix for this has always been to pull the battery and try again. It'll work eventually. Last night I did it five or six times before rebooting my laptop, then it worked right away. Keep in mind that this puts you in the phone-! -computer screen, so if you have a phone that doesn't have the three button combo wait and see if anyone else has better advice.

Pull the plug and see if the phone will boot. If odin never started writing to the phone you will be back where you started. Then just flash straight to next rom. Odin sometimes acts up and a reboot of computer, different port, change of cable, or just trying again seems to normally fix the issue though.

rebooting my pc fixed the issue. Thanks for the help!

[Q] Last resort before i have to replace :/

Yesterday i decided to test few roms out so i backed up my current and flashed.
had no problems until i flashed cognition 2.3b2 , after i had i felt i didn't like it and went to restore my backup. Instead however i received errors in the recovery and it seemed to restore way too quickly still with errors. As of that point my phone will not boot my screen seems to glow after hitting the power button but nothing ever comes up its completley black , i can however get into download mode and i have tried numerous times to restore with odin , instead of restoring to stock though it gets stuck on odin at :
Code:
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/004> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/004> Sbl.bin
and occasionally at :
Code:
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/004> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/004> Sbl.bin
<ID:0/004> boot.bin
<ID:0/004> cache.rfs
<ID:0/004> dbdata.rfs
<ID:0/004> factoryfs.rfs
the only thing i can think of that could have caused this is possibly voodoo being enabled when i tried to restore. If this is the case , is there any way to fix it , assuming people have done this before.
If all else fails i will just get the phone replaced, not an issue of money however there is a lot on my internal that i would like to keep , would there be any way to get it off the internal without having to start the phone , maybe through download mode ?
In advance, thank you
-Cristian
Man, that sucks. Have you tried one of the one-click odins? I think there's a one-click that can take you back to stock JF6, and I know there's a leaked 2.2 one-click floating around. Maybe you will have better luck with those, since they're all-in-one packages?

thanks for the input, The problems im having are with the stock jf6 one click odin.
Should have been more specific ,
This 2.2 one click seems promising though, im willing to try anything at this point!
Here's what I would do:
0. Download ODIN3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
1. Pull the battery, sim card, and external SD card.
2. Start ODIN3.
3. Insert your battery, then press and hold the volume buttons.
4. Connect the phone to your PC.
5. Click start.
Once the new ROM is installed, boot the phone and enable USB debugging. Start ODIN3, connect the phone, then click master clear.

This is what ive been trying to do,
it hangs up during the flash however, ive left my phone connected for 3 hours while doing it to see if it was just going to take a long time and that didnt even help still stuck on one of the 2 parts that i posted in my original post.

Odin doenst recognize, can i pull batt?

....on the way of a reflash, i want to go back to stock. cap is in download mode but odin doesnt recognize it.
how can i do it again ? yellow man says do not pull batt
Never a good idea to interrupt odin but if it is stalled and taking more then 5 minutes there is nothing you can do but pull battery and try again

If it did not start flash go ahead
I have to do this like 4 or 5 times every time I use Odin. It rarely works right the first time.
Many times, all that is needed is to pull the usb out and reconnect (pre-flash). Then it recognizes the port.
Open ODIN first...then get into download mode: (up/down volume + power), and then plug it in. ODIN should recognize it right away after that...works for me 100% of the time.

I start Odin, put the phone in DL mode, and then plug it in. Odin always recognizes it. The problem is that when I click the button to flash, it starts and before any progress bars come up, it freezes at one spot indefinitely. It then requires a battery pull and restarting the whole process. Usually I get the exclamation mark error and have to do the vol+USB trick to get it in DL mode. It's so temperamental for me. Glad you guys have better luck.

Do you suppose it is a driver problem? Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers on your computer? Just a thought.
I'm on a 1007 and don't appear to have access to 3-button download mode. I think volume + usb works, and I'm pretty sure adb reboot download works as well, but worried that if I get into a soft-bricked state I won't have access to adb.
Hey everyone,
This is as far as I cxan get. I am now stuck in download mode and ODIN3 won't do anything. Is there anyway to get the phone to reboot, I am sure it has not even tried to flash yet.

You are going to need to pull battery. what is the build number of your phone? Located under battery, mine is 1008
Build number is 1007. I just really need to know how can I get the phone out of download mode? I tried removing the battery and I got the icons showing a little phone, Exlation in Yellow and a little PC. I can get into download again using the volume buttons, and ODIN sees the phone, just stops after a few lines and does nothing more.
Thanks for any advice you may have,
DC Miller
Your build is fine, I am going to list the order I use with odin to make sure you are following.
First take your battery our of your phone snag leave it out for a couple minutes.
Open odin
Put battery back in
Enter dl mode
Run odin
I have had odin stall in me before. A couple tries pushed it through
I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
Thanks for your help,
DC Miller
Well after 6 times of trying to get past the fifth line in ODIN, it went past it!! It installed 2.2!!! FROYO is verified.
Thanks so much for helping me to stay with it.
DC Miller
i hope you backed up your nv_data.bin before you froyo'ed. good luck and enjoy!
Everything is good. Saved all I needed, I could not be happier.
Thanks everyone,
DC Miller

I followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775911 thread to go to download mode. Finally ODIN flashed 2.1 back..
However, i wonder why it didn't work the first time when i went to download mode...
Thanks a lot
Typically this happens when you didn't follow the strict order of operations using ODIN. You must start ODIN first without the phone connected. Then put phone in download mode and connect to the USB cable.
Also, you may need to use different PIT files and select re-partition when switch between 2.2 ROMs and 2.1 ROMs. If you use OneClick ODIN, it already put PIT files in for you IIRC

Blaze Hard Bricked

Long Story Short:
I think I hard bricked my blaze
LONG STORY:
1. I tried flashing CWM into rooted konane's kernal (Stock ROM)
failed numerous times , accidently left "Re-partition on" ; but still the phone booted fine
every thing was working ;
2. Went into CWM ; made a nandroid backup
3. installed Dknight rom
4. Flashed Dknight (Wipe cache ; davlik cache wipe; then flashed)
5. phone never booted beyond the RED ORBS
6. I realized Now Im soft bricked
7. went into odin tried the soft brick method ; failed all the way
8. "Firmware upgrade encountered" error message ; phone is not recognized by windows neither kies nor ODIN
Conclusion:
I think I hard bricked
I NEED HELP !!!!!!!!!!
Not hard bricked that's soft bricked luckily for you and that's just another form of download mode
Take out battery and dc from USB cable now with Odin open and USB cable connected to PC only. Then put battery back in and hold the two volume buttons and plug the USB cable into phone then you will again see ur screen but Odin should recognize iit now ans well flash the tar
Just fyi if your phone turns on to any screen it isn't hard bricked
Now if it doesn't turn on at all then it might be hard bricked

If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
I did that same crap when i first rooted this phone i didnt realize repartition rechecks it self that little silly [email protected] progam made me think i destroyed my phone but...eventually found a guide on google but what erik said will fix your issue, just to verify.

Lol yep yep I've had my share of soft and hard bricks so I know how to fix em
Also, this is the main reason I hate Odin and prefer heimdall over it.

are you getting the same screen as atifahmed33? with the "Firmware upgrade encountered an error"? if so, do what erikmm said:
disconnect usb
pull battery
open odin application
put battery back in
plug in usb cables
push and hold BOTH volume up and volume down
press and hold power until the download mode warning screen pops up
release all buttons held
press volume up once
voila! you're in download mode
Odin should now recognize your device. if it doesn't, verify your computer recognizes your device (in windows, go to computer management->device manager, cant remember in linux, who cares in OSX, its an inferior OS)
I must have soft bricked my phone about 10 times over the weekend forgetting that stupid little check
I cant remember if you need the drivers too...

Check and see if that fixes. Also are you getting into download mode?

I ran into a similar problem yesterday while trying to Odin back to stock. Couldn't figure out what going on after 2 or 3 unsuccessful attempts. I redownload the tar file several times, and decided something else had to be the culprit. And VOILA, it was my usb cable. It wasn't connected good, I think my port is a little loose. So before I clicked "start" in ODIN, I held the phone in my hand and made sure the usb had a good firm connection with the other and it worked. It may work for you as well.

Need help with failed Root attemt Galaxy S3

Hello, wasnt sure where to put this thread, so i put it here.
I tried to root my GS3, that vent very wrong, now i cant start my phone, it only say "Samsung Galaxy S III" and thats it,
i tried to get back to stock using Odin, but odin stops at "Nand write start"
tried re-partionating with new Pit file, same problem still as above, (used pit file for 16gb, witch my phone is) when i do this with odin everything works fine, until im im putting Stock firmware into "pda" in odin, then it locks "nand write start"
Hard reset dont work, (pwr-home-volume Up) does nothing, but i can get my phone into download mode,
Usb Debugging was on before we started,
Unknown sources was on.
everything "kies" shut of
tried diffrent USB cables and ports.
Branded Yes.
event tried with Antivirus and firewall shut off.
anyone know what i can try next? cant it be anything with Bootloader or the kernel?
thanks alot for answers
and sorry for bad english.

correct Pit file solved everything btw Usb Jig dont do anything to GS3 exept starting download mode
I am currently having this same problem, and what I get back from Odin is (when I try to use the PIT file to repartition)
