Anyone have a step by step set of instructions?

I did find the steps for doing iphone to android; it requires the use of a 3rd party website to re-encode the backuped up iphone sms to an android 'readable' file. It worked great when I did transfered my sms to my samsung galaxy s.

Sadly, I don't think there is a way. Maybe someone will come up with an app?
I figured when I went from WM6.5 to WP7 I could just use MyPhone since all my SMS messages were backed up there. But there is no connection from MyPhone to WP7. Come on, Microsoft, this should be an easy one!

You are not stupid. Because Apple doesn't allow us to export files from iPhone to computer. Of course, SMS is no exception. However, you can try to use iPHone SMS Backup, which is a neat program to export iPhone SMS.
Er, you can get the instructions by googling if you are interested in the topic.
you can export sms and contacts from your iphone but whats the point if you cannot import it to wp7 ?
don't waste your time exporting sms because there is no way to import or even export sms from/to wp7

oh so heres the deal, i have a Treo 755p and i know how to use outlook to move my contacts over. But now I want to figure out how to get my texts over if its even possible. I found an app for Palm that lets me export my texts in a .csv file but now i need help on how to import it on windows mobile or if i should just give up if its not possible...thanks
any ideas?

I've always kept a copy of all my text messages in my desktop email archive using an Outlook plugin from Jeyo. However, after switching to Gmail, I'm really trying to avoid using Outlook altogether. That's why it would be great to have a program that automatically uploads all my text messages straight from my phone to my Gmail account. Kinda like MyPhone but with Gmail.
This is what it would do:
* Automatically copy every text message to Gmail;
* Upload messages from different folders: inbox, concepts and sent items, each to the appropriate Gmail locations.
I believe there's a program for this on the Android platform, but not on Windows Mobile.
I'm just posting this here as a suggestion, hoping a handy developer likes my idea, since I don't know how to do it myself.
Services like MyPhone and Dashwire let you do it to the cloud.
You can use Windows Mobile SMS Sync ( not Free ) / PIM Backup to back it up to your PC and manually send it to gMail.
Another alternateive ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324684 ) I think its no longer actively developed

I'm already using MyPhone, which works automatically and does very well as a plain backup solution, but I'd really like to keep a complete archive of my correspondence (email and sms) in one place on Gmail.
On the other hand, I'm currently using Jeyo Mobile Companion to transfer my sms to gmail manually. The result is exactly what I want: each message is listed individually and chronologically among my emails. Unfortunately, this only works through desktop Outlook, and I'd like to avoid using my pc as a go-between.
So I'm still hoping for some new developement that will do this automatically and over the air. Such a program already exists for Android phones:

I have been thinking about this too and I very much applaud the development of such an application too. Everything backed up to one place.
The basic idea is pretty simple, queuing a message to a specific folder on a pop3 / imap / exchange server. Restoring or syncing data from the server is more difficult, I suppose.
Sprite used to have (= not anymore) an application that continuously sent received text messages and calls as an e-mail to a specified e-mailaddress. Unfortunately, however, it was unable to restore from it.
Also, backing up messages for the first time will pose problems. Most e-mail services are capped at a maximum amount of messages per day (e.g. 1000 receive / send)
If you have an Exchange server, version 2010 wil have sms synchronisation features in it.

Seems like it simply forwarded text messages (and call logs) to a specified e-mail address. Ideally, I think a program could copy the messages directly to a specific e-mail folder via IMAP, right?
I see how restoring would be a problem, but I wouldn't really use this as a backup method anyway. I already have MyPhone and Sprite Backup for that.
To me, the main purpose would be archiving. Gmail just seems a natural place to store your text messages along with your e-mails: it gives you a complete overview of all your written correspondence.

This would be a good program, so Im putting my hand up for it as well....
(Hope that if this is done it would be compatible with the android way of doing it, thus allowing you to move texts from one platform to the other)
I've added this as a sugestion to Nuevasync as well, being that the activesync platform does allow for selecting SMS as an option to sync.
probably not what your looking for but i have my phone setup to sync my contacts and calendar through google and i run a program called phone log which puts the text message i reciever in my calendar as an event but through i would through it out there i would be interested in a program that did this though
I second this idea, it's works a treat on my Hero and I'd love to have to my sms's pushed to my SMS label in gmail on my HD2
I've actually found a copy of Sprite Archie (mentioned higher) and it works perfectly fine... At least, it did until I bought an HD2. There, it doesn't detect incoming messages. So no luck...

Question for those who use Microsoft My Phone.
I currently use My Phone to sync Contacts and Text Messages on my WM 6.5 phone. When I get my WP7 device will I be able to sync those Contacts and Text Messages over? Or will I need to import contacts from my SIM card?
No - Apparently MyPhone is not supported in WP7 and can't be accessed by the phone. They want everything to be done via Windows Live or Exchange
I use MyPhone too for my 6.5 more as just online backup but it's nice to have txts etc saved out, plus I use SPB backup too for which at the moment there is no WP7 alternative.

sync phone with an exchange server if one has access to it otherwise install outlook with hotmail connector, sync contacts and calender from phone into hotmail on outlook which will sync the same info with hotmail on the web...
connect wp7 with hotmail via EOAS or pop and that will sync the contacts and calenders...

that was an alternative. like I said earlier, kin studio like features which store contacts, text messages etc on the cloud will be added later to devices.live.com website.
not everyone stores their contacts and text messages on myphone.
ps - you can always import your contacts to your sim card and then export it to wp7's internal memory too...
I'm using MyPhone too as I don't have an exchange account, it's a shame that feature isn't available on day one but hopefully it will come with the January update.

I'm talking about transferring data from one MS device to another,
and it's simply screwed, opposed to the solution which was just available.
And don't be silly.
You know that transferring 1500 contacts with multiple data is impossible to transfer
through SIM.

In the same boat fella. I have a possible solution to this problem but to be honest it's not something that many people will be able to do. Plus I haven't implemented it yet and won't get a chance till next week now.
For the moment, what I have done is use the Outlook connector and got the contacts and calender into my live account. I've lost some data (some pretty important) and it doesn't sync categories which I make extensive use of, but it's there for the moment. It will do for a short time when I get my phone from Wed.
Sorry but that is all I can suggest for the moment. IMO they screwed this up royally
I have an exchange account, but I purposely don't sync my personal contacts with my business contacts. This sucks because MyPhone is in the "cloud" and is a M$ product, but it doesn't work with their newest phone? What crap.

So for you who plan to move to WP7 (I'll stick with 6.5.x personally) there may be hope .
You are all making assumptions based on mis-reported facts. Windows Phone 7 does have "My Phone," however it is now integrated into the OS. You can easily transfer your contacts, calendar, and e-mail by connecting your old Windows Mobile device to sync with Gmail or Hotmail, then connect your new Windows Phone 7 device to sync and it will download everything from one of those services. After that, you're free to disconnect Windows Phone 7 from the service if you don't want it anymore and your contacts and calendar will stay. (For obvious reasons, e-mail requires maintaining an account with somebody.)
As far as text messages, there is no migration path from 6.x to 7, as is the same when upgrading iPhone devices or just about any other platform. However, I think you will all find that Microsoft's implementation of MyPhone on Windows Phone 7 is still better than MobileMe. Not only is it free, but its feature-set (like integrating SkyDrive photos with the locally-stored photos together into the Pictures hub) is much better than the separate app silos Apple has created. Windows Phone 7 isn't perfect, but IMO it's a pretty good version 1 product considering that they've started over from scratch and the competition has had a 2-3 year head start.

Hey, wake up.
So WP7 HAS NO MYPHONE.
MyPhone was just launched year ago to TO HELP EASILY BACKUP AND RESTORE
in the cloud all of the data you need. So I could switch my device every week and still have all I need with me with one ****ing click. It was meant to be this way.
And now MS launches new platform and instead of enjoying great solutions,
opposite to all advertised easyness and "it just works"
you have to sync everything through the crappy few steps process!!!!
Plus all the smses are gone, all tasks and notes are gone!!!
That's a DUMBASS implementation. Stupid and completely brainless.
So WP7 looks like a lie?
With this attitude I hope they will not succeed.

It is not the same "my phone" as we are talking about here. I won't be able to transfer my text messages from the my phone service. I have no issues with transferring contacts, etc as that is easy.
righto.....so from my understanding exchange 2010 supports SMS's.
Is there a way to import the SMS from Microsoft my Phone?
Or is it a case of needing to get the SMS's sync'd from my 6.5 device to my Exchange and then sync them back to the WP7 device?
i believe this is a common request but i have not found a good solution.
i dual boot from winmo 6.5 to android and want to sync SMS between them.
contacts are easy through gmail.
i have seen solutions using export csv/xml, some sort of file text string manipulation, then import but all a bit convoluted. ok for a 1-off transfer.
i do not want to replace either of the databases, only import/merge.
anyone have an easy(ish) answer. must be able to handle folders. paid for progs are not a problem but free is always nice
For an WP7 WP8 noob, does microsoft have a desktop sync tool that would transfer everything from the old WP7 to the new WP8? including TXTs and pictures? or online WP7backup/WP8restore tool via skydrive or whatever?

I used my phone upgrade to get the T-mobileUSA HTC 8X for a family member currently using the HTC HD7. I know nothing about WP7 or Wp8, as I'm still using my HD2/Android multiboot. I searched MS's Live website, but it's just full of advertising and wp8 feature demos, couldn't find anthing about transferring between phones. MS mentioned something about desktop backup/restore, but it said it will not backup TXTs, and I didnt see anything for wp7 to wp8. Any easy steps or tricks I overlooked? Appreciate all the help. yes, the contacts and skydrive pictures synced up just by logging into MS LIVE, but that still leaves out SMS TXT and Call History. How I miss PIMbackup CAB... remember that? anyone know if there's anything similar to PPC PIMbackup in the WP7/8 marketplace? preferably free?
I've got some ideas for an app that does backup/restore the content (texts, call history, game and app data. all synced to SkyDrive) for WP7, but it's scrapped due to my HD2 digitizer broke. And it would require the phone to be full-unlocked and WP Root Tools.

Don't know if this warrants a new thread; if so, my apologies. I have an original Samsung Focus and am about to upgrade to WP8. Is there any way to transfer my SMS from one phone to another? I do have a student dev account, so unlocking the phone is an option if needed.
Please note I'm not concerned about transferring app saves, game settings, etc. Call logs would be nice, but not necessary. It's just my SMS I'm concerned about. Thanks!
Not to WP8 there isn't, at least not that I'm aware of. And since they haven't been able to jailbreak WP8 I really don't think it's possible yet.
