I'm currently using a Milestone XT720 which doesn't have a dedicated LED notification light. It does, however, have 3 media LEDs which illuminate when the camera, camcorder and gallery are active. I'm looking for a way which to use these lights to indicate missed notifications (in the place of a notification LED).
Is it possible to remap one of these lights as the notification light? Or perhaps, is it possible to remap one of those media lights in the place of the keyboard (4 touch sensitive buttons) notifications which the phone is able to do?
This user found some info on how the LEDs are set up on the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10603505&postcount=12
Would anyone be able to shed any light on this? I'm fairly new to the Android platform but can work my way around ADB and around the system with Root Explorer.
Thanks in advance!

Hy,
Is it possible to hack the system drivers for the LEDs of a Windows Mobile device? So you can fully customize the appearance of the LEDs. A flashing red/blue LED for a new incoming SMS would be great.
The people in german forums said: It is definitely not possible to do that. But it´s posible to hack PayTV, so I think it should also possible to hack an WM5 device.
Its possible.
Just very hard to do
Of course this could be useful (Notification LED Drivers)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/wceddk5/html/wce50oriNotificationLEDDrivers.asp
But it seems that you can only read the status of a LED, but you cannot set the status.
That's not quite correct, you can change the status of the leds (for leds, that curiously includes the vibrator). VJEschaton has this functionality I think.
However, the leds the OS controls are just the notification led (the one that turns orange on alarms etc) and vibrate.
The other leds could be controlled, but probably not without some ingenuity.

Hallo guys,
As former user of the hermes I am now missing the leds, that inform me about the activated bluetooth-status or the critical battery. I wondered if there is a possibility to programm the white leds of the hardware-buttons for that.
Could this be possible or can you imagine another solution for that ?
Thanks

Long time ago I saw somwhere that the LED ring could be lit in different colors. Was that an imagination, removed feature, press release error or what? I havent seen any other colors than white on my LED ring.
Yes, i miss those leds too...
There are other threads like this one, about others complaining:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426333
I miss the blue light as well. Do you think it is possible to have the phone hang-up/back button light up when Bluetooth is enabled? But it would be better if the control pad could change color.
I'm wondering if there will ever be Pinch to zoom on the homescreen like the Desire Roms have and also i'm running Cyanogen 5.0.5 and i use ringo pro which has customized LED colors/notification, but they don't really work with the messages notifications....ANY HELP??
lilhermit is releasing Trackball alert which will have the ability to change any notification colour LED once a CM compatable version is released
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645690
Well I do think it's possible to get the pinch-to-zoom effect on the home screens, it's all about someone developing it and that is probably some coding behind.

The N1 trackball drivers only allow the Attention Light (the one that flashes for incoming calls) to flash white or blue. Outside of that, it's very possible that the developer of Ringo Pro is not handling things properly.

This will also have trouble changing the Incoming call flash. The drivers will need to be tweaked for that to happen.
If we were able to have pinch to zoom on the nexus builds that would complete that build in my opinion, i would actually pay for that.

Actually, I wrote the driver that allows for full color trackball notifications. Then Google supplanted mine with their own. There are several 'Logical Lights' These are the lights that the android system tells to light up and it's up to the hardware to determine what to do with these requests. On the N1, the notification, attention, and breathing light are all mapped to the trackball. The notification light (the one that the notification manager uses to display texts/email/missed calls) is passed to the trackball with full color, but the attention light (the one that the phone flashes when it's ringing) is only mapped to show white or blue. White is flashed for most calls and blue is flashed when the phone is paired to bluetooth and the phone is ringing. The breathing light is pulsed when notification manager puts something in the notification bar and the screen is on. It's actuallly mapped to the attention light, so it is also limited to white and blue.
+1 for Chainsdd and all his work!!!

Well the Ringo Pro app has the ability to change the color of the trackball for each individual contact which works fine until the screen is off. It worked well with the previous cyanogen mod (5.0.4.1). when i upgraded its like there is no priority sensor which allows it to completely control the phone vs the new built in led trackball notification alerts. and when i disable sms alerts the color for ringo pro just stop.
It's only a matter of time...
It's really bothersome on the EVO how LED notifications only flash for 5 minutes then stop. Would love an app that creates its own LED notification and flashes it indefinitely until viewed. I know there are other notification apps on the market, but I'd prefer one that doesn't try to create other notifications (in the bar, pop-up, etc.). Something that JUST does LED, so I can then turn LED off in Settings, would be preferable.
Also would be nice to disable the LED while charging, or to be able to interrupt it, but I have a feeling this couldn't be done through the SDK.

I'm glad you posted this gripe, I have always wondered how long it will blink the LED but never thought to stop and time the LED- I would always clear whatever alert out of habit.

I would love for someone to be able to figure out how to do that. Its just too damn bright if you are using the phone while its charging and the lights are out (for example using it as an ereader.)
I would like the LED to flash while charging for notifications, does anyone know what colors the EVO's LED can actually flash besides red, green, and orange?
I also would REALLY enjoy all of the previously noted requests. But I'd rather not root my Evo just yet...would it still be possible? (like, could this possibly just be an app?)
Hi, I'm looking for a decent app that allows my whats apps, texts, missed calls, Facebook and messenger as well as emails to appear on the lock screen and light up. I've tried a few and can't find any that work too well, I am also looking for an app to allow me to change the LED light colour for notifications. I tried a few again and didn't work too well, one particularly still kept the LED flashing even after the notification was accessed in the app, it only disappeared when the notification bar was pulled down.
Thanks.
Try NiLS Lockscreen widget, works perfect for me for Lockscreen notifications.
BTW: In lollipop update coming native notifications on Lockscreen is a built in function.
As for me NiLS and gravity screen give a perfect combination, notifications and display turning on when taking mobile out of my pocket
Thanks, found some apps that do the job okay but not great, also having issues with getting the LED notification light to blink when in do not disturb mode. Apps I'm currently using is Light flow lite for control over LED notifications, Floatify and Screen notifications.
I feel like the Lollipop update for the Ascend mate 7 will be a while!
