[TOOL][ACS]One Click Odexer and Restoration Tool for Samsung Epic 4G - Epic 4G Android Development

ACS Presents:One Click Odexer and Restoration Toolversion 1.0 - by tanimn
*** PLEASE NANDROID BACKUP ***
DETAILS:
OneClickOdexer is an odexing and restoration tool for deodexed roms. It will determine if it has been previously run and automatically odex your rom or restore it to a deodexed state. If a critical error occurs, it will return your phone to it's previous state. Care has been taken to only odex apps that come stock with an odex file.
With one click, it odexes.
With one click, it restores.
Complete details are available in the included README.TXT, including instructions for manual operation and running from the handset instead of through adb.
By changing from a deodexed to an odexed system you are modifying the method in which your dalvik virtual machine works. PLEASE backup your phone before using! I will accept no responsibility for your failure to follow this basic safety tenet.
PROS:
Increases speed by about 15%
Reduces memory usage
More space available on /data
Reduced use of dalvik-cache
CONS:
You might need to re-add some widgets and home screen icons after applying
You will need to restore your deodexed system to make any theme swaps (But that's just one click away...)
Exclusively for Samsung Epic 4g. Tested on DK28 and DI18 roms. Contact tanimn for porting instructions.
Thanks to raiderep for the idea, Paul O'Brien for the commands, and ACS for the help and support.

If the script gets interrupted while it is going through the framework, this can happen. THIS is why you have that nandroid backup in cwm, right...?
If the script doesn't cause the phone to reboot on it's own, rerun the script before rebooting by hand, and restore a backup if your handset has stopped responding.

Thanx for doing this for us. It will really come in handy for re-odexing after adding mods and/or theming to a deodexed system.

no prob... it's happening with Viper 4.0.3 ext4. i just odined back to stock tho, and flashed Syndicate 1.0.2, because i wanted to check that out for fun anyway, lol. the only thing is i'm having a problem with my touchscreen now.... the physical buttons work, but the touchscreen mostly doesn't work... just sometimes. touchscreen sometimes does work after a reboot, then goes out, etc/

After waking this morning and seeing the length's SCEA are going to to halt the PS3's jailbreak I am reluctantly withdrawing from the distribution of PSFreedom in any form.
You can see more of what SCEA are doing here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/showpost.php?p=535680&postcount=1

thanks Klutsh, your awesome

edit: herp derp, my phone refuses to boot
great stuff...
Thanks for all your hard work, guys! Fantastic stuff!
Do you think we'll ever see this as a "fake flash"?
Great work!! Let's try!
" including ABD and Mass storage toggle." Simply awsome
Excuse my lack of knowledge, but what exactly is the difference or advantage to the PSFreedom App you created?
Keep up the awesome work!
yeah.. after rebooting to try and get you that log, my phone seems to be stuck in a HTC logo -> off -> reboot -> HTC logo -> off loop, any suggestions? I can go back into recovery/hboot fine... but not my phone
@stoker25, This should not effect your normal rom in any way.

Typical recovery log shows that everything worked, although it still flagged an error.
The log is the ONLY file that my code additions write anywhere on the device other then the recovery img flashing.
I am honestly at a loss to what can cause your main rom to fail booting.
What rom do you normally run?

i was using ieftm's rooted 2.2 rom (the first one he made, it's probably outdated now), i'm thinking it might have something to do with the symlinked bootanimation, since it reboots before it shows it. gonna reflash now anyway, since i've been meaning to for a while...
can anyone upload unrEVOked for desire???
and can i use HTC sense rom?
So let me get this right, now we can have this with any rom and keep all usb usage (I'm using leedroid 2.1) within our roms? Just adds an extra menu in recovery?

[REF] MARKET PRBLEM SOLVED after. Doc's V5.1.1+ to V7.5 in 3 minutes.

Hi guys & gals.
I am a keen flasher, even an OCRF http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823702
But restoring all your themes & 170+ applications could take me a better part of half a day, hence I was apprehensive.
Well, this time around I tried something different. IT WORKS. No need to backup your settings. No need to Factory reset, Wipe data before hand. DONT DO THEM. No need to remove your old lagfix (Sztupy's 0.3 ONLY). No need to remove your tweaks. No need to backup your apps & whatelse.
Here is what I did, Went into Recovery, checked which lagfix I was using, what tweaks were turned on, noted them down.
Downloaded V7, put it on my sdcard as update.zip, went into recovery & applied update.zip.
When my phone rebooted into recovery, I went back & reapplied all my settings. Lagfix & tweaks.
When I restarted, everything was as it was 3 minutes ago, but only with V7. I mean NOT A SINGLE FC, everything in its place, & believe me I have a VERY costomized 5 pages of ADW with 170+ apps, 800+contacts, 500 log entreis for calls, sms APN settings, JUST EVERYTHING..
I hope this helps someone.YOU CANT HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE IF IT BREAKS YOUR PHONE. This experience is being shared with good intentions.
I am very sure its Sztupy's modified CWM that makes this possible.
Check the last few posts in Doc_Kalpik's post, they are painfully, undoing the lag fix, backing things up, flashing & then restoring. 6 hrs of life GONE.
IF IT HELPS SAY IT HERE, might help others.
OK, after testing this method for 7.5 hours, here is my revised review. Before I did this, My gmail, sms, noLED & a lot of other apps were giving me FC's, Now thats GONE. The market was totally unreliable, starting the download, doesn't finish, downloads get linked, (that was the worst) & all sorts of issues. MARKETS NOW WORKS FLAWLESSLY.
EarlZ confirms that using this method he has come from V5.1.1 to V7 without issues.
Nice one. I'll give it a try.

I am a happy OCRF now.
The same can be done from v5.x doc_kalpik roms.
But as usual, backup first, better safe than sorry

well Ragin ... maybe i AM an OCRF
phone is charging right now and as soon as it reaches 100 i'm gonna go for it!
Can't wait anymore
lol
better to disable lagfix before (specially the dbdata != rfs).
if u need to reflash with odin and dbdata is not rfs, it will be wiped.

do you use CWR for back up or other app
So if its done we rename it via update.zip and use 2e recovery nothing gets wiped as compared to the choose zip file from CWM ?

IF you are running Doc_Kalpik's v6 with ULK, you can switchover to V7 by this method. Yea, remane it as update zip, enter into Sztupy's CWM, flash sdcard:update.zip
yup works. but i went to choose the .zip file to flash. works the same. (as long as the kernel supports the same filesystem as you have chosen for the lagfix, then all will be well )

[RECOVERY] DEFY ClockworkMod Recovery - 2.5.1.8

Hi all,
Rumor has it I picked up a DEFY last week. Most people in the community know me for my work on the cliq/backflip/cliqxt. It's been quite some time since I posted any mods/work here on XDA so here we go. First I'd like to say thanks to Koush & Tenfar for the work they've done. They laid the ground work. I simply needed/wanted to improve on it more. I wanted to include the latest 2.5.1.x version since it has some bug fixes/new features also. So here you go. This recovery includes the latest 2.5.1.8 ClockworkMod Recovery, fixed fix_permssions script, and updated adb that allows root access when using adb shell. All your backups, downloads will reside in the clockworkmod directory on your sdcard just like a standard clockworkmod recovery. If you haven't noticed the fix_permissions script don't run properly via the recovery on the DroidX/Droid2/Defy. I simply fixed the script so it does work properly. Thanks again to both Koush & Tenfar. I'm looking into resolving the problem when you have USB debugging enabled you can't boot into recovery mode properly. This release still has that issue, just FYI. If you choose to use this version over Tenfar's, you'll need to un-install his version, install this one, & choose the option to install recovery once. After that, it's works the same way. Take care.
UPDATE: I've uploaded a new version to my 4shared as well as included it here. This new version simply adds a power off option to the menu & was a quick attempt to try to resolve the USB debugging option. I'll give it another try when I have time, until then, I hope you like having the option to power off your Defy from the recovery menu. I've also provided a link to the original version. Take care.
Steve, kb7sqi
Edit: Due to requests, I'm re-adding the link for this updated version. While I do have plans to come back to #android soon, until then, this will be unsupported by me till then. I'm glad it's been useful to others. Take care.

It's does exactly what it sounds like. It simply returns the "key" value when you touch keys/buttons on your phone. It's handy if you're wanting to update a recovery to use certain keys if your phone has them. Perfect example, on the cliqxt the phone has a touch pad. So in the version I created for it, instead of needing to use the volume up/down, you could also use the touchpad for up/down/select as well. Take care.

Sos! Help asap! What do i do now?
I have a problem. First off, I'm a newb to android stuff and don't know a whole lot(especially technical terms like bootloader, flashing, etc.). But after researching online and reading some forums, i really want to update my phone to gingerbread because the HK froyo version can't get flash or most froyo apps.
When i heard the CM GB ROM, i downloaded odin and flashed it. Afterwards, the rom manager clockworld page popup and i rebooted the phone off course. Now everytime i boot up my phone, it gets stuck on the CM7 logo page and keeps loading and reloading for 30 sec. and continue to popup and do the whole sequence again. HELP PLEASE! THIS IS MY ONLY PHONE AND MY MOM IS GONNA KILL ME IF SHE FIND OUT! If theres a way, please tell me.
P.S- I am very stupid so please explain in simple way but elaborate details. I appreciate all the help i can get

Try to flash some stable FROYO Rom first. Kryillos ROM 8.2.1 is very Good ROM to flash. And you will get the same feel of gingerbread in it unless ofcourse you want to see 2.3.4/2.3.5 on your phone try flashing CM7alpha 6 allover again. Hope this helps.
Hit Thanks if i helped you in anyway.

NON WORKING
I'll give a go tonite'
Well, the "not boot" part seems to capture the experience for me pretty accurately .
Am stuck at the Acer logo.
I can confirm that mine does not boot either. Glad to see that cm10 is on the way and will be happy to try again with new build.

Started updating system in cwm and went to complete in a short period of time. Seems to be an early fail in the system upgrade. Wish I had more input but, seems to be an extremely quick process I'll time it, if it will help your prognosis? Please give me another shot!
Thx for all your hard work!
Here is the feedback from my friend:
Cannot boot to android, just hang there. n there is an error when doing the cwm restore.
ok, so just to understand it well, does the rom install without any trouble in CWN ? it's not clear to me if it works in your comments
then, if it's early fail, i've to work on kernel config and boot.img.
can you give a try to put another boot.img, it should not do the trick but .. let's say either the a510's original, the pawtip's a700 or the frankenrom 's one.
it's really not a comfortable situation as i'd like to test it and try to have something running, but without tab, you're my alpha-testers :/
Will try tonight...

just in addition,
can you check if adb can connect (let a adb wait-for-device or adb logcat runnning on cold boot)

For me it installed without any problem. I don't remember seeing any warning or error msg as reported by jokerzlh.

As far as I can recall it was the same for me. My impression was that the install was very quick but I didn't really look for an error message or such. I might try again tonight. I did have a problem restoring my backup to get up and running again, this took three tries.

so can u succeed in booting? Installation was okay but it couldn't boot for my friend.
CWM did not error for me, I'm positive. Just quick system update and hung on boot. I'll get a log tonite and post it up if no one beats me to it.
Thanks a lot for all your effort, i'll try to keep it alive
even if a job + a wife +3 childs might catch a bit of my spare time..
EDIT : ok, i'm a bit dumb, found some ramdisk typos..
EDIT 2 : compiling again..

No, it stuck on boot. I must have misunderstood you, I thought you(r friend) had an error msg in CWM.
I've been working on CM10 as well, but it's been a pain in the *$$
Are you using a pre built kernel or are you compiling source?
i'm compiling it
but i'd some difficulties to find what tricks might apply when compiling kernel for JB, as opposite to ICS.. did not find the difference tht might apply.
the only thing was that some jar frameworks might have to be listed twice, for CM10
i'll dig that once something boot
check out OP, new build online
feedbacks welcome
If you're coming off a different rom, make sure you're doing your full wipes before installing. You gotta clean the old data off first.
