Like the title says, my Captivate won't download MMS messages. The phone is not rooted and is running on the most recent updates available. I am using the Handcent SMS app, but I know this isn't the issue as I've tried uninstalling it and it still won't work. I've had the same problem using my HTC Evo 4G, but downloading the MMS using 3G, as opposed to wifi, seemed to resolve that issue. Not the same case here. My Captivate won't download the MMS on wifi or 3G
Any thoughts?
Only thing I can think of is the APN settings. Check to see that you have the MMS APN set up properly.

You can configure your carrier APN. Menu --> Settings --> Wireless Control --> Mobile Network Settings --> Access Point Name --> Menu --> New APN.

I had recorded a video on my phone and when I went to send it, it said it was too large and I tried to send it as a MMS and the same thing occur. How can I send videos without it saying it's too large?

If you are trying to send as a MMS / Text message it will always error out that its too large, MMS is only capable of sending 600KB (its a carrier limit) You can upload directly to youtube, qik or send via email. Bluetooth is an option as well.
I tried to send it as an email and it said the same thing

You must be using the HTC Sense email client then, try the gmail app
Also make sure that when you go into the video camera you set the video quality to MMS. This limits the size so that you can send it via MMS.

So, I live in an area with really spotty LTE coverage. My phone will exhaust itself just to try connecting to the LTE network. When it fails to do so, my service will usually drop for 30sec-1min. It's immensely annoying. However, there is decent HSPA+ coverage where I am, and I'm trying to force the phone to use that.
However, the #*#*4636*#*# doesn't work, as we all already know, since AT&T disabled this setting. So I tried to add an HSPA+ only APN and use that.
...only I can't seem to select the new APN I made. Here's what I get when I try to use it:

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know of a workaround?
Put * in apn type
Edit: like this

ChongoDroid: THAT WORKED! Thank you so much.
Dealing with rogers, I've learned everything there is to know about apns and the HTC 1X lol

And what do you put in APN field?
word "phone" used to work, but now even that still connects to LTE...

It depends on the carrier, I'm on rogers and they have the "smartphone" apn and the android one.. now they have the LTE apn so you have to google what your carriers apn is.

Has anyone had any success with Adaway and the Nexus 5?
I have installed it and updated the hosts file with it successfully, and I can confirm that the entries are indeed put in /system/etc/hosts but all the apps including chrome seem to completely ignore these entries which of course ruins the adblocking.
Verifying the hosts file is being modified and there is stuff in it:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And if I try and ping one of the entries at the cli, I get the proper 127.0.0.1 response:
But Chrome doesn't seem to care (yes, this is a fresh boot, and a site I'd never tried, so nothing would have been cached):
And it doesn't seem to be just Chrome ignoring it, other apps on the phone seem to ignore the hosts file as well.
Did something break in Kitkat?
And of course I figure this out as soon as I start a new thread thanks to another thread on here....

Basically it was the wireless proxy setting in my provider's APN. I received a new sim for this phone and AT&T must have reset all those settings. I deleted out the proxy under the apn settings and now everything looks like it is working well.
I'll leave this here in case anyone follows in my footsteps and has the same issue.

Yeah, thanks for updating the thread with you discoveries
Not sure if its just me but I am running CM11S (28R) rooted. If I send an SMS to more than one recipient (as I nearly always do), it keeps converting to MMS and then fails to send. I am in the UK and on the Three network (if that makes any difference).
Check your APN settings are correct.

Thanks, I phoned 3 UK and they were next to useless. Still not letting me send to more than one person as a txt. Keeps converting to MMS, which I get charged for. The guy I spoke to in Mumbai, said "that is just how it is". Surly I can get around this?????
Could anyone please post up their APN settings if they are on Three. I am not having any luck sending MMS messages and I can't get any joy from searching the net or contacting Three......
You could use a different messaging app, like Slide Messaging, you can turn off the feature that converts group messages to mms.
