Hi All, I am a Noob to the G-Tablet and I have a few questions that I thought that someone might answer that also has a G-Tablet. I am running 3389 with the TnT Enhancement pack. (3.1.4) I am thinking about rooting the device, but want to be sure that everything works correctly before I do.
Here goes...
1. My screen needs to be viewed from slightly above the unit (landscape) in order to make it look even. If you turn to portrait, it needs to be viewed slightly to the camera side. It looks like the backlight is on the camera side and is thus brighter there. Is this normal? or might there be a problem.
2. The Camera seems to be very poor especially under indoor lighting. Poor enough that I don't know that I can video conference with it indoors. again, is this normal?
3. I have installed the Enhancement Pack and have the Marketplace. However, I only see a small number of apps in the Marketplace. Is this because of the Stock TnT? Apps that are missing are as simple as the Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger client. Trying to figure out what makes the marketplace decide what apps to show and if rooting the device will resolve this.
Thanks in advance for any answers to these questions!

1.) Yes, unfortunately this is normal. It doesn't bother me too much though.
2.) Yes, I also find it to be pretty poor however it works for me for most things (such as reading QR codes off of a PC screen for apps).
3.) For me, it seems different apps show when I change the properties file on my gTab to mimic other devices. I guess there is a filter on the Market that only displays what it thinks your device can handle?
I am running VEGAn rom beta 5.1. I absolutely LOVE this rom and can't wait for the next version of it based on Gingerbread source.

Have You tried the Quick Market Fix Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885940
I am running the stock TNT and have all the Yahoo apps on my market.
Thanks...
Thanks to those who replied. The Market fix did in fact resolve my problem. It's an easy enough fix, but I guess you just need to know where to look.
Thanks also for confirming that these items are shortcomings in the G-Tab. The camera is understandable in a unit that is priced this low. It is a bit unexpected that the screen has limitations though, since Viewsonic is pretty much known for making flat screen monitors.
Thanks Again to everyone for their help.
Glad to hear you're enjoying your g tablet. I think everyone is in agreement that the screen quality is unusually subpar for Viewsonic, however, they OEMed this device and stuck their name on it. It is not manufactured by Viewsonic, as I understand it.

Guys, I'm interested in buying this phone http://negrielectronics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=9193&order=relevance&dir=desc but my problem is my eyesight and I need something that enlarges everything on the phone. NOT just the font when you write or something.
Less space between icons, utilizing the space better and instead of like the way the iphone was (sample)
John Smith 888-444-555
Have something more like this
John Smith 888-444-555
You know, use the space instead of just wasting it.
I tried years ago with my LG 9800 putting people's pics on there so I could see who was calling and still, they wouldn't let me use the whole screen for the picture but only a small portion in the middle.
With the help of one of the guys here, I found this http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/advanced-configuration-tool.html but of course, unless I have the phone, I can't test it.
The same guy suggested I get someone here to help me and write something for me so here I am.
I found this DROID app that says "Font Size globally enlarges text in all apps (Email, SMS, Maps, Home, Weather, Calendar, Widgets, ...)."
That's kinda what I want but possibly even bigger icons to boot.
Now, for my use and where I am, I have been recommended the 9193 so it would be great if someone here that has one could do something and show me how big things can get (if this is possible).
Thanks
George
Hi George and welcome.
I am sure someone on XDA can help you out.
I will move your thread to the Themes and Apps forum where you will probably get a better response.
Good luck with this venture, hope you find what you seek.

Thank you Mr. Banana sir
I hope I can get some help too. Man, I can't believe this should be so hard. I mean, I'm not the only ol' fart around am I?
'preciate it
Oh, and I changed the title since you moved it.
Thanks again
George
There is a global "text size" setting which can be changed in WM. It will change the text for most of the system. Unfortunately some programs do not obey this setting and will default to small fonts - there's not much you can do about those programs though rather than get the developer to rewrite them.
I´m using zoo(o)mer a program that enlarges your sight.
Just try .
Guys, I don't have the actual phone nor do I have access to one.
Is there anyone here that can do this and show me a screen capture or something?
Ideally, putting it on a scanner and scanning it would be great. That way the size of the unit is accurate and I can compare it to other phones.
Thanks
George
Get one and add stuff
I have the T9193 and Zoomer is about your best bet at the moment, it will allow pinching to enlarge in most programs and areas in the phone.
When it comes to the phone calls etc there are some great apps developed on here that enlarge keys etc and use the vast space of the screen so blokes like us can see to do what we need to do without glasses.....mostly.
I use Iconsoft Phonex 2.2 for the dialer app, everything is nice and large!
Zoomer works great.
The phone is brilliant so get one add zoomer and Phonex and you will be very happy.....mostly...there will be the odd spot to annoy you but you will be able to live with it.
Well, I may have to take your word for it and of course, if I don't like it, I can just send the phone to you for a refund, right?
Seriously though, that sounds good.
Don't suppose you're in a position to do some screen captures, video or a scan of the phone so I can see what I'm doing?
Where do I get the zoomer and phoenix and how much are they?
Are you running 6.5 on there and is there anything different in 7?
Thanks guys
George
PhoneEx is good. But when I try to send an email from the contact of PhoneEx, "send from" will be "outlook mail'. Is it possible to change it to "hotmail", if yes, how?
Thanks a lot!
Is outlook mail the only choice?
Mind you, I would probably do it directly from the server like I do now but still, I hate outlook
give it a search... im quite sure there are lots of solutions instead of using outlook.
(p.s. I dont have mobile internet plan so i dont use the email function that often. but im sure you will come up with lots of solutions. the hd2 is great )
Hell, as long as it does the other stuff I want it to do, that's gonna be a minor thing since I tend to do my mail directly from the mail server anyway. I was just curious.
I'm hoping to get a reply on the zoom and phonex questions soon and I might go ahead and buy the phone tomorrow or something.
Thanks guys
George
Guys, while I'm at it, I just realized I should post my "wish" list here for you to comment on it and what's available and not on the 9193.
I actually sent this to Negrielectronics.com and they've been working with me to find the right phone so again, I want to put a plug for them 'cause they've been great!
Anyway, here it is in "kinda" order of importance to me...well, except for the first few, they are just questions I added later.
Cell Phone Wish List
1. Voice recording for PHONE conversations
2. Voice recording for other conversations, as in voice memos with built in mic.
3. Phonebook limited to memory size or are there size limitations?
4. Can I import my information from my Palm PDA?
5. Ability to have LARGE Letters and Numbers
6. LOUD RINGER and ability to put any ring tone on it. I will attach the one you put on the last phone so you can see it.
7. Loud Volume on phone
8. Loud Volume on speaker
9. Function as modem for getting online. NOT a must but would like to.
10. Pop e mail so I can check my mail if I want to.
11. Good browser capabilities (think iPhone)
12. Large clock so I can see it easier. You know, when the phone is in standby mode and you want to check what time it is. I love the clock that’s show in the picture of the HTC Touch HD2 T9193
13. Predictive dialing (I liked this from the HTC Vox that you let me try. Very cool. You dial and it keeps trying to guess which number you want. I’d LIKE this but NOT a requirement.
14. Latest Bluetooth version
15.
16. PREFER Real keyboard but not a requirement. I’ve gotten used to dialing on the screen and I don’t text at all.
17. GSM/3G/Fast Internet speeds. Probably going to use it on AT&T. I was never very happy with Verizon and for me at least, ATT worked better. Note, Ryan recommended T-Mobile and I will probably go with that, if nothing else but for the cost.
18. I don’t need a whole lot of the cool gadgets and features on it. I don’t do music or watch videos or download stuff. If it has a good browser like the iphone, that would be great but I mainly want a good PHONE. Camera is good to have and I do actually use it. Liked the one on the iphone and that the lens wasn’t too damn wide. That always pisses me off.
19. I would like a way to connect a corded headset, preferably without adapters.
20. I don’t care if it’s windows or not as I don’t plan on having letters and spread sheets on it. I have PDA’s for that.
21. At least 500 numbers in the phone book. Maybe predictive
22. I do NOT want a flip phone!
23. If it has keyboard on the front, I need LARGER buttons, NOT like the blueberry. My fingers are too thick for that.
24. Also, I would like the option to return it to you if it doesn’t work with my hands free in the car. Just like I did with the Vox and I would be happy to pay some fee for this if necessary.
25. As a phone, the Vox was superior to the iPhone but two things I didn’t like. Size of everything of course and it sucked at displaying web pages. I would actually like to change my requirement. I WOULD like something that displays web pages as well as the iPhone does. It did a beautiful job and I MAY need this feature in the future so if you guys are going to recommend something with a little larger screen, type HTC or iPhone, then I would like something that displays the web pages properly. Of course, it could be that they all do that now, I don’t know.
26. Ryan, I talked to Kenwood to find out which Bluetooth version it had as the handsfree unit was built in but they had no clue. Big surprise there. THIS is the unit I have from Kenwood (DNX8120) and although they didn’t have a list of compatible phones, there is a page on their site where one can look up the compatibility so I’m sending you that instead so that when the guys find a phone that’s suitable for me, they or I can go online and check it.
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/bt/index.php In the first drop down menu on the left, select DNX8. underneath select DNX8120 and under that, select INCLUDE and then on the right, find the phone I’m getting.
Well, I think this is about what I can come up with.
IF I get a laptop with built in wireless that I can use would I have to have an account for that and again, would I be stuck with the higher priced plan or how does that work
I've got a phone, nah nah nah nah nah nah...
Alright boys, I went with the Desire for AT&T from Negri Electronics (and by the way, if someone wants one, they've got 50 of them coming in monday or tuesday) so I need to ramp up the search for apps to make me see things better
Oh, and linky if someone wants it http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-a8183-android-att-850-us-na-3g-unlocked.html
They've got other versions if you don't want AT&T by the way.
Later yall

Anyone else got the ChaCha yet?
Picked one up for my wife yesterday and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Solid build, nice weight, quite speedy too.
Has the Sense 3.0 lockscreen with shortcuts. No Weather\Stocks\Friendstream on the lockscreen though, just a background.
Also comes with a HTC version of Facebook chat, seems ok but can just use the inbuilt chat in the facebook app if you prefer.
Facebook integration is pretty tight, the same as with the other HTC Sense handsets. The Facebook button is quite handy and cool for uploading photos to facebook.
Will update further once we've played with it a bit more
yes
just bought one for myself as I need a keyboard (white/silver)
basically screen looks like wildfire S. very sharp
keyboard is excellent
and surprised there is forward facing camera and radio
signal quality is good and phone quality is good
even the charger is white
very nice so far
please keep updates coming
Thanks both - please keep updating us on your experiences
can't wait to play with my htc chacha..i do expecte to have it delivered by royal mail in 1 week.
ChaCha is nice!
I had same feeling. ChaCha is nice. I did not expect the keyboard is so good.
I installed Morelocale2 for Japanese use.
Japanese font is installed, and Open Wnn worked smoothly with the hardware keyboard.
It may replace my Blackberry Torch.
Further usage continues positive impressions.
Personally I wouldn't have bothered with the camber in the middle for aesthetic reasons. However for ergonomic purposes it is positive, in that it puts the screen at a better viewing angle when holding it and also wraps to your ear more nicely when making calls.
I would also have made the facebook button a more general assignable button, perhaps that will come with software
Its nice to have real "make" and "cancel" call buttons. This is always much better for people using their phones to actually make calls but seems to have been dropped on virtually all new iOS, Android and WP7 touch smartphones now.
For folk who thing this is a generic Android implementation, its not, its been tweaked alot for a landscape screen. HTC have obviously thought about how the device will be used and it has lessons learned from the excellent S620 and SNAP.
As well as sense and the display being optimised for landscape, window 1 is now the furthest left of the horzontal scroll (to go to different windows). I prefer this over the standard Android where extra windows are to the left and the right of the main windows.
Marketplace is also adapted for the size of the screen and landscape.
Note that by default, the web browser and other apps hides the status line on the top. thisis a good thing, as its a waste of space (maybe learnt from WP7 which has the perfect hidding of status symbols from permanent display !!!).
So far can continue to confirm that all radios (bluetooth, wifi and 3G) work well and calls are clear. Data also seems to be fine, marginally ahead of my Desire S in terms of keeping the signal (perhaps this is an illusion).
There IS an accelerometer, but most built-in apps seem to ignore it. e.g. the web browser does not go to portrait if you tilt the screen. It also seems that the orientation for portrait is not currently picked up by most market place apps/games. i.e. install "sky ball". You will see that to control the running ball you need to tilt left and right, but on the ChaCha, you need to tilt back and front. Clearly the game is not playable like this.
On the subject of "auto-rotate" screen, I have just found an option in the display settings called "auto rotate screen - after market downloaded applications"
I can confirm when ticking this box, most of my downloaded applications auto-rotate when I turn the phone. however this does not effect built in applications (e.g. mail, web browser, etc.)
some other things to note:
1. Chacha has 800mhz new design cpu (faster then 600mhz one in salsa and wildfire S)
2. Chacha does have an FM radio (bizzarely many previews on the internet say it hasn't)
3. The camera is 5mp with face detection and flash.
4. Note that with the latest version of Android (on the ChaCha - 2.3.3) you can move most applications you install from the marketplace to the SD card. so internal memory is not really an issue.
Lastly the keyboard is nice to use. Each key is spaced nicely and has a positive click

MANY thanks my friend - great info!
Where in London did you buy it from? I'm thinking of picking it up at the Carphone Warehouse sim-free today (8 June)
Do you find the screen is too small? The chacha resolution is better than other similar phones such as Samsung Galaxy Pro and Acer Betouch E210 (I returned the Acer cause I found it hard to read web pages etc on its resolution).
How is the battery life? Do you think it'll last a day?
Sorry for all questions!

I bought from carphonewarehouse simfree on cheapside it was £229
The battery seems the same as the Desire S. i.e. 2 days if you don't use, 1-1.5 days if you get email & browse
The screen is small (2.6"). I bought this over the samsung galaxy pro due to the 480x320 resolution. Its a sacrifice for this type of device, however the resolution is fine (same as HTC Legend, etc.)
Hi All,
My wife has noticed an annoying bug, can someone check for us to see if it s common bug or just our very own
When typing in Gtalk or SMS and a smiley is used, it can turn blue, enlarge a little and stay on the screen with no way to get it off (reboot phone)
anyone else seen this? I haven't done any of the obvious things yet such as uninstall Gtalk and re-install or do a factory reset

Ah right - Not sure about the SMS just what she told me over the phone. I've walked her through a factory reset and all seems OK at the moment. If it returns I'll uninstall Gtalk and put it back on.
What software version is everyone on? I notice the latest update is 1.18.401.1 but I'm sure my wife's is still on 1.17 I tried to initiate an update last night but was told it's up to date.

Nice phone indeed! Good quality.
My call and end buttons dont work! Can anyone help please?

I came from an HTC Tattoo as I was finding it increasing frustrating to type on a touchscreen. I guess I'm a physical keyboard guy!

Hi Everyone,
I have a problem since so long, tried to find a really working solution for that, but I've failed many times, and that thing always went to parking space at my to-do list.
So let me ask a question. What is the best app for syncing your contact list pictures with facebook? And I know, there are a lot of apps doing that, what really concerns me, is the quality of them. For ex, many phone apk-s seem to support bigger pictures, but everyone of it displays pictures like it was magnified from a freakin thumbnal, and looks.... really bad.
Anyone has a solution for that? Tips?! I'd really appreciate it, and thanks in advance
i am not really following you...what about facebook official application ?
i think he's talking about google changing the quality of contact-pictures. doesn't matter how hq they are on your phone, as soon as you sync your contacts with your google-account, quality is degraded. this is happening on all platforms (android, ios, winmo...) - go complain to google. (not that they listened in the past 2 years... ^^)
only "solution" until they change that on server:
don't sync your contacts with your google-account.
Have you tried full screen caller I'd from the market? Lots of options. Not sure how well it works as its $5+
yeah, FSCI was used on my galaxy spica though, it had a lot of bugs, errorous facebook messages, missed calls by application fc-s. Havent tried on nexus yet, but that didn't seemed to be a stable working solution by then.
Anyway, I'm sorry to hear that, in fact I hoped there is a way to solve it, I thought that its quality is bad because of the google cached pictures.. :\
It's kinda makes me wonder, that on ICS the caller pic is way bigger (ok, sdk port, but kinda looks like the phone app will not get a complete revamp till the release), so maybe they tend to do something with this problem... or at least I hope so
Syncmypics has always done okay but never gets them all.
I just picked up a nexus s 4g and it is syncing Facebook photos.
Hello,
Has anyone found a good alternative to Movie Studio? I've been using it on my Iconia A500 (10in. screen) and find it worth having. So other than the smaller screen, is there an oficial reason why we 7.0Plus owners didn't get this "standard" app.... or did everyone but me get it?
I've just downloaded a couple .apk's posted here to try to side load the app, but I guess I'm wondering if my GT6210 should have come with it in the first place.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Don't worry I'm on the same boat as you...have original tab my 7.0 Plus is on the way as we speak. Movie Studio is a huge improvement that I loved in the other Honeycomb tabs. I'll be sure to update you on if mine came with it. In the meantime, were you able to install a Movie Studio apk you've gotten your hands on?

Yes , I was able to install the "deodex" version from this thread http:// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990465&page=2 - look for the file in post #12. But it didn't quite work for me. The UI doesn't adjust for the smaller screen (though the lower screen resolution is most likely the issue), so the video playback window blocks the top timeline and half of each control on either side. This made it basically unusable for me- the only good news is the app is otherwise working --clips imported, drag and scrubbing worked, imported clips played in that oversized preview window- without crashing. So if the UI could be tuned with a little hack-fu......
Anyway, hope this helps ya in some way. Please let me know if you find a solution. Thanks!
I just installed this app -AndroMedia https://market.android.com/details?id=com.techcatmobile.andromedia&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS50ZWNoY2F0bW9iaWxlLmFuZHJvbWVkaWEiXQ.. and so far I like what I see! It's free and looks like it can do the job. I've only done a quick test, but this may even be better than Movie Studio - though it has a small add at the bottom of the screen and the UI lacks Movie Studios modern look, but in some ways this one is more intuitive.
Worth checking out for sure!

Thanks!

Well I'm not sure if you want to install another app to do this, but there are multiple apps which allow you to "adjust" the resolution of your screen which should allow you to view the complete app. I know I saw a nice looking app for this purpose but unfortunately cannot remember it off the top of my head....I've also tried AndroMedia on my original tab which I have until my new tab comes tomorrow but it just FCs but am happy to try it again with the new dual-core! Hopefully we can get this figured out...just one of those apps I reallllly want!!

There are apps that will adjust my screen rez? I'm guessing they must simulate the different resolution, or are they tweaks/hacks? I've heard of the tweaks that change the dpi or pixel density, but none that change screen rez. I'd be most appreciative if you can recommend any reliable ones.
AndroMedia works fine on my GTab 7.0+- no FC's ... yet. Maybe by the time we get this video editor app figured out, Samsung will release a version that works with the smaller tabs, lol. I'm amazed at the lack of any real alternatives to Movie Studio.... isn't anyone using Android devices to shoot video? Or are they not doing anything more complex than 1 take shots...? Not to rub anyones nose in it, but check out what Avid just released for the iPad- http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/avid-studio/id491113378?mt=8 better than iMovie and will export working projects to Avid express! I just started working with it (I need to use iOS and Android for work) and have to say it's pretty amazing. Come on 'droid!
Anyway, thanks again for your input on this issue!
Hi Everyone,
I have a Nook Glowlight+ device which i bought for my 60 year old father.
He needs a device to browse the web with, and regular LCD/Amoled hurts his eyes.
I successfully rooted the device, it runs Android 4.4.
"No refresh" mode allows smoother browsing on an E-ink screen like in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b7JjllImjM
I know it has been done somehow for the device's previous version (Nook touch):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502723
I am not an expert, but i found there are files that define the various display modes, they start with the name "WAVEFORM_MODE_X"
I know the one that defines the "no-refresh" is "WAVEFORM_MODE_A2".
Does anyone have an experience with these types of devices?
Does anyone have an Idea how I can configure it?
Any Kind of help would be appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

It might be a bit late for this, but for anyone who is reading, the NOOK Simple Touch NoRefreshToggle does indeed work with the glowlight plus. it's not perfect, but it certainly helps. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22800284#post22800284
If you get any messages suggesting that NoRefresh crashed, It seems that they can be ignored. Interestingly enough, it remains in effect.
PS: I recommend checking "Start Service on Startup" in NoRefresh Settings so that you do not need to reapply the service manually upon every reboot.
PPS: Grayscale remains in effect, scrolling in many apps will still cause noticeable refresh, but seemingly less. When swiping through the pages of a NOOK e-book, I only experienced minor refresh in graphic novels. text only books did not need to refresh at all.
Hope this helps someone!
Disclaimer: Like with everything and everyone else, you try this at your own risk. You will probably be fine, but it's not on me if you mess up your device. This will likely be a one-time post, so don't waste your time waiting for me. Hell, I posted this practically on a whim. Still though, good luck!
Edit: You may want to hold off on this. It's pretty glitchy, so it is going to need some configuring.
