Clockwork Recovery 2.5.1.8 question - G Tablet General

Hi,
I am using CWR 2.5.1.8 & have been using the same version since day one (the 8 one). I just ran a nandroid backup, installed CWR in android so I could rename my backups. Then I noticed it said something about a Gtab alternate recovery (version 2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8).
I then booted back into CWR in recovery and now the only backup option I have is the one I just did now, none of the other backups are accessible.
Did I screw something up?
CWR in android os says I have three backups (not the new one I did today), in recovery it says I only have one (todays). What is going on?
Should I be running 2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8 vs the current 2.5.1.8?
I am running the latest vegan.
Thanks,
Rich
Edit: FYI, when I flash to the 2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8 I am able to see my three other backup files. Now I am very confused, I will keep 2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8 since it has my other nandroid backups.

Use 2.5.1.1_bekit-0.8

Need help with Recovery/Nandroid issue

phone: htc dream/t-mo g1
current recovery: clockworkmod recovery v2.0.1.3
spl: haykuro (pretty sure but i don't remember)
radio: i don't remember but i know i had updated that at one point too
(if there are ways to check i will)
short version is: can i restore a nandroid backup made with amon ra v1.2.2 using clockwork v2.0.1.3?
more of the story: i had amon ra v1.2.2 and made a nandroid backup, wiped phone, and tried to load a new rom. it didn't want to go passed the g1 loading screen so i pulled the battery and restored using nandroid. went to market downloaded free version of rom manager installed clockworkmod recovery(figured maybe a newer recovery tool might be needed) and used rom manager to install the rom. still wouldn't move passed the g1 loading screen. so i load up recovery and click nandroid and restore, but it tells me none found.
are they two different types of nandroid saves that the recovery program can't use either others? or isit that clockwork looks somewhere else for the nandroid save and i could maybe move stuff around on the sd card to make it work?
this question is for after i figure out the above problem: but i had cyanogenmod v4.2.15.1 and the amon ra v1.2.2 when i made the nandroid. and i was trying to put cyanogenmod v5.0.8 and now i am using clockworkmod recovery v2.0.1.3. when i install cm5 and then reboot it sits at g1 screen, it doesn't keep rebooting. sat for a good 10mins before i figured maybe something is wrong. am i missing something? i have already upgraded my spl a while ago when i was trying out hero/2.0 roms a while back (pretty sure i put haykuro on my phone, is there a way to check?). anyone able to help me or suggest something for this?
thanks for your time
not sure if you can never tried.
Clockwork stores it files in a folder clockworkmod\backup\yyyy-mm-dd-hh.mm.ss\
When i first installed cm6 alpha it took about 15mins to reboot. Best thing to do is launch logcat while booting to see whats going on.

Warning for those of you using CWM 3.X and Experimenting with ROMs

Don't use CWM 3.x for Nandroid backups! It will soft-brick your phone!
I found out the hard way Tried restoring a nandroid backup, everything looked alright, but when I went to restart it, it got stuck at the HTC screen (I waited for 30 min on one instance!). I reflashed, re-restored countless times all to no avail. I did a bit of research and apparently, CWM 3.0 doesn't fully support the older file system used by Froyo. It was designed for CM7/Gingerbread.
I ended up having to flash CM7 (which booted up right away), and using ROM manager to flash CWM 2.5.1.3. Went back into CWM, reflashed attn1's ROM and back to normal!
That must have increased the pucker factor tenfold

Your post of this, couldn't have come at a better time. Restored my nandroid backup, and got the HTC screen. Followed your instructions and got the backup working. On another note, CM7 is super fast and smooth!

Bunnyj, how are you using cm7? Do you have sound and if so with what kernel?
+1 I really wanna know if anyone is running cm7 with sound and if so with what kernel?

You can flash CM7, but sound doesn't work Once the kernel source is released, we'll know what makes the Inspire work differently and it should be relatively simple to port the CM7 kernel over to the Inspire
It'll run, but no sound until we get a kernel made for it.
EDIT: Too late. Answered above. lol

Thanks for the info. Went ahead and proactively flashed a previous version before I needed to restore a back-up. BTW I love my G-Tablet, noticed in your sig you have one. I am running TnT Lite 4.23. Almost completely replaced my iPad now.

2.5.1.3 because 2.5.1.4 wouldn't download for some reason

Yea I had one for a while, until the Wifi completely died out on me. No amount of ROM switching would bring it back so I just returned it
This saved my phone. Thanks.
i'm dealing with that pain right now... have 2 backups and neither worked. so based on the responses in this thread, my CWM 3.X backups are worthless! so that's helpful info, thanks for reporting this. in my case, i'll use CWM 3.X to flash my ROM get my apps back and then get 2.5.1.3/4 for nandroid backups.

Download CM7 then flash downgrade to the earlier clockwork. Then reflash the inspire rom. It took me 3 times for my rom to flash. Then nano and keep clockwork 2.5

Nono, your CWM3.X backups are still useable You just need to restore them with CWM2.5.x

thanks! good to know... i still have the backups. i ended up flashing a LeeDroid DHD ROM and Telus Kernel, then reinstalled all my apps and email accounts. i'll locate the 2.5.1.3 CWM and flash via fastboot, backup my current config and then try to restore a backup.
does anyone have a link to CWM 2.5.1.3/4?

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery, ROM Manager, and Nandroid confusion

So I'm trying to update my rooted 3.0.1 euro 3G xoom to the 3.2 Hammerhead ROM, and here's something that is really confusing me:
I've installed ROM Manager 4.3.3.0 from the Market. Then I downloaded and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.0 R4c via this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979
So far so good: I can boot to recovery and it looks that everything is working nicely... with the exception of the following:
1) Even though I have CWM installed, ROM Manager won't recognize it. It keeps asking to install it. I haven't done that though because I don't want to overwrite the one I flashed... how can I get ROM Manager to recognize CWM? Or, if I install a different CWM version through the ROM Manager interface, will that overwrite the existing install, or even break something?
2) I can't find Nandroid in the recovery menu of 3.2.0.0 R4c. It says that it should be there in the Wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_backup_or_recover_via_Nandroid), but no sir. I only have the options Backup and Advanced Backup in recovery; it doesn't say Nandroid anywhere.
The thing is - I made a normal backup and it created a folder with .img files in it, along with a nandroid.md5 file. So is this a full Nandroid backup or not? And should it not be a zip file? Meaning - will I be able to revert to this backup through ROM Manager or CWM later if it's not a zip?
3) Lastly, I want to install the Tiamat 2.1 Hammerhead ROM. solarnz writes in the instructions in step 6 to "install the rom". So do I do that from recovery? Or from ROM Manager? Which brings me back to my first problem, that ROM Manager won't recognize CWM and won't let me install a ROM without it.
Also - can I install the Hammerhead ROM from my rooted 3.0.1 device at all, or should I install 3.1 first?
I know these are a lot of questions all at once, but after hours and hours of searching and reading (and learning a lot!), I still can't figure this part out.
Many thanks to anyone who can help me make sense of this!

Forget about Rom Manager. You have the correct recovery installed and you have made a "nandroid" backup when you used the backup option in CWM recovery 3.2.0.0 R4c. The Rom you want to flash needs to be on your MicroSD card and that needs to be in your Xoom when you boot into recovery. It is from the CWM recovery menu that you will choose to flash the zip file that will install the Rom. You will need to be able to boot into recovery and you can do it by pressing volume up and power to get to dual core screen, then after 3 seconds, press volume down then volume up and you should be in recovery. Or you could download Quick Boot from the market and use its boot into recovery option (that's what I do).
About the version you need to be on to flash Hammerhead...what does it say? I think you may need to be on 3.1 but just read the OP on the Hammerhead thread...it will tell you the requirements.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot for explaining that okantomi, that's very helpful and reassuring!
The only thing I'm left with now is to figure out the version part... the rom OP doesn't say anything about a required version. Here's the thread btw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203635
I made my way through the first 18 or so pages of the 434 total pages in that thread, but still couldn't find any info on that. I'll keep looking - not giving up
Quick update... I decided to just go for it. I flashed the 3.2 ROM onto 3.0.1 - it worked perfectly without any hiccups whatsoever. I'm now running Androud 3.2 with 3G and it works beautifully. Can you see that I'm smiling?

Stuck at splash screen after CWM nandroid restore

I have:
Infuse
Infused ROM V2
So today I downloaded "ROM Manager" and "ROM Manager Premium" from the market. AFAIK, this means they are up to date as of today.
Then installed CWM Recovery.
Then installed the 3e mod fix.
Then booted to CWM and did a nandroid backup.
Then booted normally.
Then attempted to install MYUI via ROM Manager download.
It bricked the phone.
Restored the phone with Odin.
Rooted.
Then installed both ROM Managers.
Then installed CWM Recovery.
Then installed the 3e mod fix.
Then booted to CWM and did a restore from the new backup done earlier in the day.
Now it just hangs at the Samsung splash screen.
Any ideas? I have a LOT of investment in the backed up ROM and don't want to lose it.

I dont know what ALOT of investment is.......but what i think happened here is this<<
You were on Gingerbread right, Infused v2.x.x and you made a Nandroid(thats fine)
u installed miUi and didnt have the luck you wanted...Thats fine
You went back to stock, and rooted and modded the Recovery so you could restore your nandroid....Thats fine
But if you went back to stock(Froyo Right) and try to load up a Gringerbread Nandroid on top it shouldnt work. Nandroids only back up the ROM not the Kernel......so you were in a sense trying to run a Gingerbread Rom on a Stock Froyo Kernel......
Go into CWM flash your Kernel, or use odin and flash a Ginger Kernel then go into CWM and RESTORE.
Happy FLashing
Didn't know that! That may explain a lot of my ROM frustrations.
I'll try this and report back.
Off to go find a suitable kernel....
I really should get my post count up so I can get past this horrible 10 post restriction.
Did you try initiating the flash through CWM or through ROM Manager? Honestly I don't prefer to do any work via ROM Manager, I always have more luck going through CWM and starting a flash from there. Kernel is the first place I'd start but you should also Factory Wipe and Cache Wipe each time you move between ROMs, sometimes you get very lucky and don't need to, most times you bork your phone, and if you're nandroiding back from a backup wiping before you restore is good practice just to make sure you don't leave anything behind from your old ROM.
I installed a gingerbread kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212485
Version 1.1.
But it didn't work out.
So now I'm fighting with trying to get a stock Infused V2 ROM on there.
No luck yet. Once I do, I'll try the recovery again.
Btw, I'm using CWM for everything.
Go to mounts and storage in clockwork recovery then select format system then do your nand restore ...

Wow, I was totally making some rookie (which I am) Android mistakes today.
Every time I tried to restore the backup image, I was doing it in CWM by selecting "install .zip from SD card". When I SHOULD have been using the "backup/restore" function.
I'm up & running again. All original apps/settings are restored. Great!
Now to start breaking things again, since I know how to restore from backup now.

Recovery options

Ok hi everyone, pretty new to the Inspire, although not to Androids and ROM flashing. Actually I'm a bit of an addict. Anyway I'm successfully rooted, so far have run CM7, MIUI, and currently Revolution. So here are the questions I have come up with so far, and haven't seen this asked as I've been poking through the threads past couple of weeks.
1. ROM Manager, it was a must on my prior phones, and I have the premium version, but is it usable on the Inspire? I noticed right away that the Ace Hack kit automagically installed Clockwork recovery, is it OK to update CWM from within ROM Manager? Is there anything in there for us? My most recent phone was the Droid Charge, and you would seriously mess up your phone if you did that. They don't seem to have CWM official support.
2. I noticed that my latest ROM, Revolution, brought with it a different recovery 4EXT (or is it EXT4?) ASSUMING that the answer to question 1 is yes, can I flash CWM over it? From ROM Manager? Not that this flavor of recovery seems to have anything wrong with it, but most ROMS specifically mention "flash in CWM" so I don't want to mess things up from the get go the next time I flash something.
Appreciate any input folks
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using Tapatalk
Quick and dirty answer-Yes.
Rom manager is very useful on the inspire. Also using the premium version, and it's the only way to fly. And as to the 4EXT recovery, it changes how the files are saved. Wouldn't worry about flashing it, as it works just as well as the stock version of recovery.
One thing I like about the 4EXT Recovery Control app is that it lets you verify the md5 checksum of your rom backups. I'm not sure if the premium version of ROM Manager does that, but the free version didn't. Or if it did, I never saw that option. Before I started using 4EXT, there were a couple of times where I went to restore a backup and CWM would say the MD5 didn't match. Having already wiped data before attempting to restore, I was stuck flashing a fresh ROM and starting from scratch. Now with 4EXT Recovery Control I can check the md5 of my backup before I boot into recovery and be sure that the restore will work.
