Hi guys,
So I bought new droid 2 global from the US, unfortunately the sim unlock codes I found do not work.
Do you think if I loaded a non-stock ROM would solve my problem? for example Fission 2.4.3? or I'm stuck with a $400 brick?
Just to mention, I'm trying to use the phone with a Telstra (Australian) Sim card.
Thanks a lot.
Bob
Hmmmm it looks like the sim lock and ROMs are irrelevant. I thought the lock codes are kept in the ROM itself...
Any ideas?
I have suggested on many ocasions trying a universal sim unlock on the D2G. These worked fine on many phones, including Milestone (1), I won't be surprised if it works fine on D2G. At least it is cheap to try - they go 5 bucks shipped on ebay.
Give it a go - worst case you are $5 in more than you are currently in. Best case - you get a working phone!

What about a turbo sim??
Maybe that would work.

The unlock code is tied to IMEI code. It doesnt matter what rom you have installed. If a company does not ask you for the IMEI then it is not a real unlock code.

Sim unlock module is not a rom but a hardware device. So called universal unlock sims or turbo sims are actually an addon which you add to your existing sim (stick underneath the sim card) and it acts up as a "proxy" which makes the phone to believe its got an "engineering" sim thus bypassing network restriction. Works on a vast amount of phones. I have personally tried on Motorola Milestone (droid 1 gsm) and it worked fine. I could have tried on the D2G, but unlocked it beforehand and now can't verify. I have high confidence it might work just fine on the D2g!

You could try Verizon Global customer support. Although I was in the first month of service when they gave me mine it's worth a shot.

Yeah I understand, but for example, on my Captivate, the unlocks codes are stored on the phone somehow
Anyway, I'm still waiting for the Sim unlock hting to be delivered, I will let you know the outcome. Would this "Sim unlock" affect 3G or Data capability? some people say it will only allow phone calls....
NICE.......

If anyone know how to unlock them (well I don't really know how otherwise I wouldn't post this LOL), please send me a PM. Thanks.
Large QTY available and of course will pay.
Option 1 - you have access to Verizon's secret database to get the correct code
Option 2 - you have your own program that can break the lock permanently.
TurboSim is not an option for me.
Sending the phones out to someone to unlock is not an option either.
Buying codes from ebay, from Swiftunlocks, etc... Dude, don't you think I have tried them all already?

sorry, u are not d only one with d problem
it was FALSELY advertised as global phone, so we tot it can be used any where in the word...
It is a global phone. But a Verizon global phone...
To the OP, I would check in GSM unlocking forums, where people lurking there have some serious experience in phone unlocking..
There might be a hardware solution available.

I know this has been probably long been debated but... we bought a MOTOROLA phone with Verizon as our service provider. Why should they choose to lock the phone up if we want to use it abroad? Why should they dictate how we can receive service on OUR MOTOROLA devices? Personally I think if we want to unlock these without an active contract with Verizon that should be our choice, or at the very least Motos.

I know this is an old thread but I thought my input might help others.
I got 2 D2Gs in Jan 2011 and I called Verizon and got both of them unlocked without any issues. I already travelled to 3 different countries and have used 3 different GSM providers. The codes worked perfectly fine.
3G, 2G, H, etc... You name it! They all worked fine.
How about POSTING them in the thread?

You get one code and it will on your phone and no one elses. Also I've heard if you fail to enter a correct code 10 times the phone is locked forever from being global on another gsm provider. You will be locked to verzion period if you leave the country.
This is all i've heard.

My codes are obviously not going to work with your phone, unless what you wanted was for me to post pictures of my D2G working on all those bands. If ever someone wants to go figure how the code matches my IMEI/ESN and what not, I would be happy to PM them all the info.

That's good to know. I was shocked the other week to find out that Verizon has basically removed their global plans from their offerings (they exist for some areas, but $100 for 70MB is a joke). Thus, for an upcoming month-long trip I'll drop $40 on a local GSM data SIM and end up better off. I'm already unlocked so again, thanks for the confirmation.
Any travel to Europe and Asia is going to cost you a fortune for roaming. I used to use Verizon's global data all the time, but lately, I had to get the Droid 2 Global just to keep Verizon phone, my love for Android and not break bank by using local sim cards for data and calls.

I have a motorola drois 2 Global.
Can you help mt to unlock it?
So I may have gotten lucky but this is my input on my droid 2 global sim unlocking.
When I received the phone pretty much the first thing I did was root it to install Fission de-blurred rom. Ok? Good.
You would have to go to defuze's website to get all the details on installing their Roms (its not hard). But after installing the rom along with the droid 2 global fix it simply... worked. Kid you not.
I called a Verizon rep I had worked with before to unlock it and we were confused as to why when putting in a different sim card it did not ask for a unlock code. Even stranger under security sim settings the only option available was to re-lock.
Hell I gave it a shot in popped in a t-mobile sim I had from my touch pro 2 unlocked and called from my droid 2 global and what do you know, worked flawlessly.
My best guess is the droid 2 global fix that automatically installs when installing the rom.
I have not had the opportunity to test abroad yet though I don't have plans to travel until maybe this summer money permitted.
**edit
This doesn't actually worked I checked again and the number which makes the call is my verizon number not the tmobile number of the sim card inside. So now to figure out how to unlock my droid 2 global.

well i have the Fission ROM running on my D2G and it still asks for a network unlock code whenever i put my simcard in.
Not a lot of ROMs for the D2G. Unless you use ports of D2. Seems like codes work for some and don't work for others. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with what ROM you're using.

Yeah I agree fully it seems weird but like I said it just worked. I may have gotten lucky with a already unlocked phone which was the Verizon rep's input on it. I was putting it out there in case someone had not tried this yet.

I would want to see this procedure was safe on this device before I mess with it however.

Yeah, went through the same thing on my previous G2.
As for unlocking the G2x, you can purchase unlock codes on ebay for ~$3. They send them out to you within a day of purchase. You just have to provide the seller with your phone model (G2x), IMEI, and carrier (T-Mobile USA). Here's the one I purchased a while back: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlock-Code...s=63&clkid=2846801209278919181#ht_2270wt_1037

If you want to work with someone you know you can trust I have obtained a source for unlocking phones. The codes work 100% but due to my cost and PayPal fees I have to charge more than the cheapest eBay vendors. I can do it for $5.00 for the G2X, and most other TMO LG phones, sent to my PayPal account with IMEI from your phone. If anyone is interested PM me. If I am online code can be sent in less than one hour.
Note: You should only unlock with a code. The Gfree method, if it works at all on this phone which is doubtful because it is a different manufacturer, changes the carrier id to "111111" which will prevent any future official updates. I don't think changing the carrier id is a very good idea. The code entry method just unlocks the phone permanently and everything else remains the same.
AFAIK as long as you've been with T-Mobile more than two months and your account is in good standing they will send you an unlock code for your phone.
Although if you aren't on T-Mobile the point is moot and the other methods are fine.
NOTE: I do not own a SigmaKey dongle and I cannot help you with unlocking your phone's GSM transceiver. Please stop PMing me about it.
This USB dongle is proven to work with the D2G.
While it is indeed a costly solution, it definitely works for at least Droid 2 Global, Atrix 4G, and Droid Pro; there are reports that it also works with Droid 3 (and it should work with Droid 4 as well as any other Qualcomm-based device). Do note that it requires you to connect your phone to the dongle to fetch the unlock code information.
It is, however, possible to use USB over IP to unlock a remote device over the internet.
This was confirmed by several users in Russia and Ukraine today.
You will need SigmaKey software and drivers to perform these operations. Refer to these two sites for more details.
To those concerned with the cost of the device: you could buy a dongle and offer your unlocking services to others via USB-IP for a small charge, say, $10. What is good about this solution is that it is confirmed to work, and gives you the correct unlock codes for your device instead of relying on external sources.
What a great news!
I have 4 bricked Droid 2 Global phones and would love to unlock them - it costed me a hell lot of money, time and nerves...
Can anyone tried it already or can recommend any service which could use this brand new solution to unlock my phones, preferably over IP...

Please keep us posted, I'm sure that the first 13 phones will be unlocked in no time and afterwards the dongle will be fully paid.
Thanks for the Tip
I bought this online after I read about it here and was able to get my droid 2 Global unlocked and work with the H2O sim card I purchased after I unlocked the gsm band using TBH's fix, so thank you for the tip. I was starting to think that there was no hope for the phone I bought on Ebay not realizing they are so hard to unlock. I am not sure what sim card I will stick with as I still have Sprint until October, but at least now I know it will work and can try different networks before I transfer my number. I have no use for the Sigma Key now though as I am not tech savvy and I didn't know if using the Sigma Key is legal to use in the US. I am thinking of selling it on Ebay, but if it isn't legal than I'm not sure if I can.

Update on SIM Unlock for D2G
Well this is indeed great news!
However,
My question from an inquisitive mind still remains, how does the SigmaKey software retrieve our codes? With this being said, we know that somehow, some way it scans for your SIM unlock code by going through files in your phone until it finds the one responsible for locking the SIM. I am all for a solution for my D2G because I really want to spite Verizon for trying to force me into a plan for atleast 2 months. Man, I wish unlocking the D2G was as easy as unlocking T-Mo's Sidekick 4G

I'd just buy an unlock code. If you try the free unlock too many times it'll permanently not allow you to unlock even if you buy a code. The unlock codes are not that expensive.
Ps, you can probably get the code for free from your carrier. This phone has been out for a long time.

It is very true! If you attempt to unlock too many times then it will permanently be locked unless you send it in for JTAG reprogramming or to Samsung and pay the repair charge, but this is if you tried to unlock via just entering random codes.
In order to get to where you need to enter the code, you have to insert a SIM that is not with the carrier it is locked to, it will then prompt you for the code to unlock.

Waht? Sounds like superstition tbh.
I had my daily sim when I unlocked mine at cellunlocker.net/samsung-unlock.php and all went fine.
OP: Try another sim.
I used to be with Verizon but switched to Sprint 2 months ago. I have a friend who is visiting from Canada and I figured they'd get more use out of this phone since I don't plan on going back to Verizon anytime soon and this phone is quite old. I tried putting their SIM in the phone and the phone asked for an unlock code. I've been doing some research on here but it seems like no one can guarantee a good solution for unlocking.
If I ask Verizon nicely, will they give me the unlock code?
Or do I need to search for a third party? How reliable are those? And there are apparently SIMs I can purchase that will unlock the phone? Which is better?
Honestly, I'd prefer a free option, but I want to make sure when my friend heads back to Canada next week, the phone will work without any further action required.
Thanks for your help.
The only guaranteed ways are either contacting Verizon Global Support (and you must have an active account in good standing with them for at least 6 months) or using a hardware dongle called SigmaKey which is $120.
Online unlocking services are “unreliable” as in, it depends on whether you're lucky enough to have a device with its unlock code unchanged.
