Perm root - myTouch 4G General

Noobquestion but if I download visionaryr14 and just press perm root now will I also get s off to flash roms?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Nope. You will need to take a few more steps between temp and perm root if you are using the VISIONary method. That's because VISIONary does not set S-Off.
Step 1 temp root with VISIONary
Step 2 download, unpack, and execute a script
Step 3 perm root with VISIONary
See http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/10/ho...s-off-on-the-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-htc-glacier/

Ahh OK I was gonna di the unlockrway anyways but just wanted too see..thanks

[Q] How do I install a custom recovery on hboot 1.44.0006

Hello.
I own a s-off hboot 1.44.0006 mt4gs; it's not an ENG hboot.
When I try to fastboot flash recovery it reports FAILED remote: not allowed.
How can I flash successfully?
Than You.
Do you have root access? Ie Su binary in system/bin and superuser.apk in system/app folder? If not then go here http://revolutionary.io
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide using xda premium
the problem is that revolutionary doesn't suppory hboot 1.44.0006. Anyway I gained permanent root access via linux exploit but still receive FAILED remote not allowed (on writing) when I try to flash a recovery.
Interesting...unforunately the HTC S off is still secure in some aspects. But if they don't support it then idk. I had S On when I got my device. Sorry I could not help u more.

Need a way to update build.prop and that's all. Ideas?

I just want to add the ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 to the build prop on my Sensation to try to keep Sense in memory to avoid some of the restarts. I don't care for SU, BusyBox or custom ROMs. I'm very familiar with them, I run the latest CM7 nightly on my G2X but my Sensation is also used for work so stability is important and I also use Good For Enterprise which has root/SU checks in it for it to work.
What's the best way to go in and update the build.prop with that one line and get back out. Phone should end up in stock/unrooted state after the edit is done.
Any ideas?

I'd say s-off, the flash a custom recovery using fastboot, then boot into recovery, pull /system/build.prop, edit, the push. Then, if you really want, flash back stock recovery. (You'll have yo figure out how.to pull it from an ruu)

Any disadvantages with just using HTC's S-OFF tool?

That just gives you s-off, it doesn't give you access to fastboot write commands which you need to fastboot flash a recovery, since you don't want root.

Corrcect me if I'm wrong, but s-on, with temp root, those changes will be lost after reboot.
And if you s-off, then it's no longer temp root, as root is actually written to /system.
Easiest is to s-off with revolutionary, flash cwm using fastboot, boot into recovery, pull build.prop, edit, push, reboot. Then you have root when you need to edit by booting into recovery, but no other root checks will fail.

yeah, the disadvantage is that it doesnt even give you s-off! It only unlocks the bootloader. You would still need to use revolutionary to get s-off, you need s-off to make (and keep) any changes to the build.prop.

[Q] plz help..s-off and root with beertrick after ota update

hey, i would like to s-off and root my sensation xe. ive got some probls with beertrick:
they wrote that u have to install superuser for doing s-off!

(my sensation has no root and its s-off!)
do i have checked right that i only have to got the app installed and than can do s-off and root it? and what about wiretrick?!? how does it works?

Try unlocking through HTCdev.
Unlock using HTCdev, flash CWM, flash superuser.zip. Done, you're rooted.

This is very true. There's a couple stickys in the dev section about this. Blue has a huge guide on how to do this, there's even a tool that'll do it all. Try using Hassons Toolkit. Simple as hell, best tool for any HTC phone.

I also suggest gaining S-off. It'll eliminate a couple steps when flashing new ROMs.

Can I root...

Can I root my HTC sensation without losing any data? And how to that ?
All i want at the end is to flash a custom Rom so practically I need to unlock boot loader with htcdev the flash recovery and then what? Root ? And flash Rom ?
I am kind of lost :S
And I want to know if the htcdev will erase everything on my phone including sdcard? :d

with htcdev method after unlocking bootloader it will do a factory reset to the device
but your sdcard will be untouched
if you follow the S-OFF procedure first you must backup all your contents in your sdcard because during the procedure(in the moment of the wire trick) it will erase everything in your sdcard
