[TUT] How to update your flytouch 2 - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

How to update your flytouch 2
I have had my fly touch 2 for 3 days now and i have been going through 1000 of post on trying to update my flytouch 2 but no one could really help me and there is a bit of confusion on how to get in the recovery menu. Now i have been doing a bit of research which will help people who got stuck like me and hopefully get this community of the floor with more builds coming out every week like the zt-180.
First of all you need to find out what build you are on ( Settings/about device/build number)
Firmware: deb-r2.1.1561 - Official release
Firmware: deb-r2.1.1480 - official release
Firmware: deb-r2.1.1170 – Seller Installed
Firmware: deb-r2.1.1001 – Factory Installed
Now what i have found out is that the factory ships these devices out with 1001 and ships the seller software to update the device via a pc, the the seller is supposed to update the device to (Firmware: deb-r2.1.1170 – Seller Installed). But many sellers are just shipping the devices out with the 1001 firmware. The problem with this is that there is no recovery menu and you cant install of the sd card you also cant use the system update app. So if you have been spending your time pressing button combinations and it keeps getting stuck on infotmic logo then your on 1001.
People that are on firmware 1170 and above can update using the system update app.
But if you on 1001 your out of luck you going to have to go down to your local electronics store and buy a male(A) to male(A) usb or make one if you want. I dont recommend buying of ebay, might fry your tablet if wired up wrong.
So now you know what firmware you are on and you have your usb or you just want to install updates via usb then this tutorial is for you.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR FILES FIRST WITH TITANIUM BACKUP AND MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR REGISTRATION KEY MINE IS ON A STICKER AT THE BACK IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT ONE CONTACT YOUR SELLER
First of all you will need to download burn tool and 1170 update.
DOWNLOAD
Step 1: Extract the zip file to your desktop there should be 2 files burntool and android.
Step 2: Switch of your flytouch 2 and plug the usb into the top usb slot and into your computer.
Step 3: Hold down the menu+home+power, this will put you into usb mode.
Step4: Your computer should say a new usb device has been found and it will promote you to install it. Now if your on windows xp a window should pop up saying Install automatically or Install from know location. click install from know location and browse to your desktop and click burntool folder and click ok, it should install and promote you with a continue anyway message. For windows vista or 7 it will try to install automatically and fail and ask you for the location of the drivers.
Step 5: Now we are all set up to update your tablet. First i recommend watching this video so you understand how burntool works.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1dSM2q9nIk
Step 6: Now your connected to the pc open up burntool (windows 7 and vista right click and run as administrator), there should be a green box in device 10.

}
Step 7: Click Settings, and tick burn. now copy this picture below all the files are in android folder on your desktop. If you cant find uimage in the folder make sure you its set to all file types.
Step 8: once you have located all the files click the left button at the bottom of the setting page and then click start.
No once this is done your flytouch should boot up into the new firmware, once on the home screen re register and connect to wifi and do a system update to go to the latest vision.
Just a few more things
>Yes this will fix the green screen of death.
>Make sure you keep the power plugged in at all times.
> Always remember flashing can be dangerous and it is possible you can brick your device please ask if you have any problems im sure i and others can help.

Thanks very much!! my friend purchased 2 of these for his kids christmas and so far I have rooted both flytouch2's and made launcher pro the default home app.
However 1 tablet's touch screen is very bad, and it keeps freezing on the green screen when booting up. The other one is completely fine very odd...
But following your guide which I did on both has now fixed all issues and now I hope to put on a much better firmware, well there is'nt really any new firmware for
this at the moment only the other tablets... gingerbread I hope to be out soon as this will really open up the tablet as the spec is very good
Thanks again

Thanks very much

Thnak you very much

Thanks for a friend who asked me to save his flytouch 2 !

I just received my flytouch 2 with F/W deb-r2.1.1001 installed. I am trying to do the update procedure using an A to A USB cable but I can not boot into USB flash mode on the tablet. If I hold Menu - Home - Power I get a count down from 5 saying 'Press key combination for recovery' If I do nothing it counts down and boots normally.. If I press Home - Menu again it will flash recovery and reboot. There is no USB flash mode that I can seem to get into.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I just used Terminal Emulator and flashed the recovery.img inside the update.zip
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
and now recovery should work

freezing on the green screen

I have the same problem, it keeps freezing on the green screen when booting up, how could I solve it????

When i saw this thread i wasn't logged in to see the images and do the same. I got the "uImage" file and selected it into the "uboot-img" field to flash. Then? Green screen!
Then i corrected the fields like the image and flashed the 1170, and everything goes OK, ready to update to versions further
I hope that it help someone with the green screen freeze.

Mine arrived today and would only boot to the green screen. I solved it quite easily.
1. Turn off
2. Press and hold POWER and HOME until the recovery screen appears. The recovery screen has a black background and blue type.
3. Press the VOL- twice to highlight "wipe data/factory reset".
4. Press MENU to select.
5. Press VOL- seven times to highlight yes.
6. Press MENU to select and then wait for format to complete.
7. Press MENU to reboot.

[Q] I BRICKED my rotted GS2 Epic Touch when using ROM Man. FROZEN on Syst Recovery

I'll gladly donate to the person(s) who resolves, or helps me to resolve this problem. History: The title says it all... 2 weeks ago I rooted my Galaxy S2 Epic 4G TouchEL29 710 Gingerbread from Sprint. This is the second rooted phone I've owned, however the first phone in which I've rooted myself. It took many frusturating hrs to get it right. People don't understand that just because THEY know what they're talking about, I certainly had NO idea as I've never done it before and don't know terms and where to get downloads without correct links. Before I screwed up today I actually rooted a friend's Galaxy S Nexus! Weehoo for me I'm so smart I'll just go an extra step with my own phone today which brings me to...
Problem now: Today I decided to flash a custom ROM. MIUI I believe. I downloaded ROM Manager (I had it on my EVO 4G and it worked well) and as soon as it booted back up it LOCKED. I think I did what ALL first timers are terrified of doing. I bricked my phone. It's STUCK on the Android System Recovery <3e> screen. It has a white triangle in a black background with a yellow ! inside. Under it in red letters it says E: update file is backed up: Reportedted (spelled just like that) under that in yellow it says # MANUAL MODE# --Updating application...
Installing Apks.
Successfully updated application
On the top where it says Enter OK for reboot system now, apply update from sdcared, wipe data/fac reset and wipe cache partition I can scroll through those, but when I choose an option and click the "enter" key, nothing happens, it just stays frozen as though I've done nothing. I took my battery out several times and it goes directly back to this screen upon putting the battery back.
I've spent hours pouring over these (and other) forums and find questions similar to mine, but not exactly. I can get into downloading mode by holding the volume and the on button together. A lot of good it does when I don't know what to download.
I didn't mean to overfill everyone with so much information, but I think in order to get the answers I need, I need everyone to know what I have here. Again, my phone is bricked up. I can't do anything on it. My phone is very important to my job and daily life as I'm certain it is to many people. I shouldn't have been messing with stuff when I don't know what I'm doing, but now I'm relying on other people's kindness and knowledge to get me out of the mess I made. Thank you to everyone who tries helping and as I said before, I will gladly donate a bit of money for your time and wisdom if you're able to help me.

Hey Sarah, I see you're a new member. In the top right corner of the site, there's a search box that says "Find your device". Type in "Epic 4G Touch" and you'll be able to see all of the sub-forums for your device. Normally, you're supposed to post a question like this in the "Questions & Answers" section, but I'll answer it for you anyways:
Here's what you'll need to flash your phone back to stock:
1. Relax, breathe. All is not lost, I promise you!
2. Download this. It will literally put your phone back to stock EL29 with root (latest Sprint OTA) with one click. Here's a video on how to do it if you're nervous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7pWjmKCsoc
3. Put your phone in download mode by holding Volume Up and Power when turning on your phone. Hit "Yes" (Volume Up) when you get the warning.
4. Plug your phone into your computer. Your phone should show up in ODIN and the program should look like this after you hit start:

As long as u can get into download mode, all is well.
-download Odin on ur computer
-find a stock rom for the epic touch
( hotfile.com/dl/138745617/0615e1c/SPH-D710_SPR_1_20111228163442.zip.html )
-unzip the rom.
-open Odin and fill the fields with the unzipped files. See the file names, and then select appropriately
Phone = xxxx_phone.tar or
Xxxxx_modem.tar
csc = xxxxxxxx_csc.tar
I'm not sure which tar files are present in the above link. If u download and unzip them, you'll be able to figure it out, just as how phone field is xxxxx_phone.tar. if not, just pm me or post it here
Once u fill the fields, put ur phone in download mode and connect it to the computer. Odin will detect ur phone and show a yellow box. Start the process and wait 5-6 minutes till u see a green box saying pass.
This will give u a stock rom, causing u to lose root access. you will have to reroot
All u had to do was go to the reboot option press the volume up then volume down then volume up and volume down and it should start working

[Q] [VZW i815] Possible to root if starting point is *STOCK OTA ICS*?

I think I may be the one of the few people anywhere who may be in this situation, but thanks to help from Electron and others, my VZW Tab 7.7 actually followed the OTA progression of FD01 -> FH01 -> LP10 to go from a stock-but-rooted HC to a stock non-root ICS.
While I first thought this may be a fortunate turn of events, I now am wondering if this is the case, because I am having trouble finding a way to root it.
To be clear, my current situation is that I am post-ICS, and not rooted.
The root method specified in the 7.7 development forum doesn't seem to work - it fails on the signature check. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235), and OTA Rootkeeper seems to be for those who were way smarter than me and caught it ahead of time.
Any suggestions for achieving root, or am I out of luck?
Thanks for any help!
Eric
Download necessary files:
Verizon 7.7 LTE drivers: http://electron73.org/XDA/i815/Verizon_Wireless_I815_Galaxy_Tab_USB_Driver_v1_4_7_0.msi
electron73's Odin pack: http://electron73.org/XDA/i815/electron_i815_odin_pack.zip
Root: http://www.mediafire.com/?x481a90591wdw0a
Make a folder on your desktop and extract the files there.
1. Install Verizon 7.7 LTE drivers
2. Put the root zip file on an external SD card, make sure your the SD card is inserted in the tab
3. Power down your tab
4. Boot into Odin mode by pressing power and volume up. Release power while still holding volume up when you see the samsung splash screen. You will be greeted with a warning dialog:
{

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5. Press volume up to accept, you will be in download mode and greeted with the following screen:
6. Open Odin 1.85
7. Load FD01_recovery.tar by clicking the PDA button and selecting the file from the folder you made on your desktop, make sure auto reboot is unchecked. It is very important that you choose PDA
8. Plug in your tab, your PC will probably install drivers if you have never used Odin and how up under ID:COM. Your tab will show up in Odin. your screen should look like this:
9. If odin looks exactly like the screen above, click start. Odin should display a green Pass! above ID:COM
10. Power down your tab.
11. Boot into recovery, you will see an android with an exclamation point triangle
12. Choose apply update from external storage using the volume keys to navigate.
13. Select Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip
14. Tab will install and reboot.
15. You now have root.
If you want to be completely stock, including ICS recovery, then follow steps 3 - 9 except use the LP01_recovery.tar instead of FD01_recovery.tar, then reboot your tab. thats it !
P.S electron i linked to your files, i hopw thats ok

You may have to flash the honeycomb recovery with Odin just to root, because I think the new ICS recovery will not install unsigned update. After you flash root, you can flash back to stock ICS recovery. This is just a guess I have not tried this.

If that is what is required I may be in a bad way.
Stupid VZW has not provided this variant with any stock firmware download - no HC and no ICS.
In my short-sightedness I didn't think to make a nandroid or CWM because up to now, I can't use any non-stock roms - I need the LTE as a part of the tablet.
Drat and double drat.

It should be easy to root your stock ics tab:
1. Download the root zip, place on external SD card in your tab
2. Put your tab in download mode, connect tab to pc and flash stock Honeycomb e3 recovery via PDA button in odin. Be sure to untick "auto-reboot" option.
3. Once odin finishes with a "Pass!" Power down your tab by holding power.
4. Boot into recovery by holding power+volume up, let go of the power button when the samsung logo appears while still holding volume up.
5. flash the root zip from external sd card in recovery.
6. You should be rooted now.

For Step 2 - the stock HC e3 recovery part - is this a file that I download from somewhere or is this something that I would (should) have at hand?
Sorry to be noobish, but I want to be sure I don't do something irreversible here...
Thanks for the help!

Followed the steps and it worked. Rooted the LP11 ROM by flashing the FD01 recovery and then flashing the Select Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip from recovery.
Stickied this as it took me quite a long time to find. This is VERY useful for people with the Verizon model and stock ICS.
Can't find FD01
Does anyone have a link to the FD01 recovery image? I cannot find it anywhere. The links to the stock roms are broken. I've been trying to root my LP11 7.7 i815 for years now to no avail.
I appreciate any help.

Samsung Galaxy S7 - dm-verity verification failed - can't Odin.

Hello all,
I was wondering if someone would be able to provide any guidance on my issue.
Last night I went to uninstall root and so I used the SuperSU app - and hit the Unroot option - phone restarted and is now stuck in bootloop. I have tried to restore the original firmware via Odin, however the phone does not get detected. I have explored the possibility of a driver issue of some sort as my PC will detect the phone if it's powered off and connected. It detects it as an MTP device. When I try use the Volume Up + Home + Power button to access download mode the phone does not detect, and my PC does not show any device connected to it. I have tried Kies3 and a reinstallation of the Samsung drivers but Odin still does not recognise it.
When I start my phone up using VolUp+Home+PWR mode my phone looks like this:

1. Reboot system now - this puts me in bootloop if used
2. Reboot to bootloader - bootloop as above
3. Apply Update from ADB - Update from external storage is disabled
4. Apply Update from SD Card - Update from external storage is disabled
5. Wipe data/factory reset - Works OK
6. Wipe Cache Partition - Works OK
7. Mount /system - Mounted /system - have tried mounting system then rebooting, however bootloop still.
8. View Recovery Logs - OK
9. Power OFF - OK
I would appreciate any advice on how to resolve this issue, I think that if I can get it to interface with Odin I might be able to restore. TIA.

Hi mate
Unroot sometimes fails..as you noticed....to fix it you have to get into download mode , sometimes is tricky , keep trying until you get it , is a timing issue ( boot image is corrupted ) , just try several times...once in , flash stock firmware......

do I have to make a scatter file to flash the recovery? and not use any other scatter file? by the way I am trying to root my blu studio G d790q so I could use a ram extender. I tried to use a scatter file from a stock rom I downloaded from this http://www.needrom.com/download/blu-studio-g-d790q/
--Basically this is what I have done--
-> launched SP tools
-> clicked `choose scatter file` (MT6580_Android_scatter.txt)
-> unchecked everything except recovery and browsed to my downloaded ctr-6.6-d790q.img
-> click download
-> connected my powered off device and while the bar below seems to be 100 it was color red and it says something have changed and I should download a file which I wasn't able to note down
-> I tried pressing down volume + power but it showed me `Factory mode` I guess its not the ctr one so I just chose `reboot`
-> found my date changed to `January 1` after reboot but I fixed it by just calibrating 'automatic time zone' and everything is good again.
Just need some clarification on flashing this recovery so I can root it properly thanks for the help! Cheers!
one more thing isn't it volume up + power to boot to recovery?

--Basically this is what I have done--
-> launched SP tools
-> clicked `choose scatter file` (MT6580_Android_scatter.txt)
-> unchecked everything except recovery and browsed to my downloaded ctr-6.6-d790q.img
-> click download

Did you make sure to plug in the phone with the battery taken out?
I did remove battery,
This time I also installed unsigned drivers for mtk for windows 10 64bit , also rebooted PC on startup to make it accept unsigned drivers (option 7) redo the process but now it took a bit of time to get that bar at 100 but still red it came up with a failed error
here are the two screenshots for each failed attempt
Upon further playing with it and being patient, i think it looks like somethings wrong with my current stock rom in a way that it is different from the stock scatter file which I am using, I tried downloading mtk droid tools and it showed me this
any ideas?

Sorry for the late reply,
V22 is the stock ROM the D790Q ships with. Unfortunately, the only stock ROM is V16. That may be the issue why you cannot flash the recovery, you have to format all and download the whole V16 stock ROM.
For some reason, you cannot update to V22 from V16 so I was not able to test the recovery on V22.

First off these guys got you backwards that's why your stuff doesn't work.. On BLU its VOL UP to enter recovery.. not VOL DOWN as mr qinagong suggests.
As you can see from your screenshot it says format+download.. Choose the other option and it will work. If SP doesn't work on download choose DLOAD+FORMAT, if it doesn't work on that. choose the opposite. Also battery should be IN ! Ignore the people who say it should be out. Turn off phone, begin download or download + format and wait a second or two and then insert USB cable.

Wow, I didn't think people actually read this thread
You're right on the volume button part. I will change that. I've always removed the battery, plugged in the usb, and reinserted the battery and it has worked for me.
Sent from my Q5 using XDA Free mobile app
Ops Stock Rom link is a paid membership site $3 per month. I managed to find a mirror for D790Q 6.0 stock. I know its an old thread but just in case anyone needs this and gets stuck because of OPS suggestive subscription link.

7.Now click on the Start button in Odin. Installation process will start and would take a few minutes to complete.
8.When odin shows PASS u can remove cable and press Volume down + Power key to force reboot until u see black screen (If it boots then twrp will be gone u need to start the whole process again )Once it does, you need to let go of the Volume Down button and hold the Volume Up button while still pressing the other listed buttons. This will boot the phone into Recovery mode and you should now see TWRP. You will see TWRP no excuses.
9.Now is the best part if anything goes wrong you are literally Fished and I mean it. The screen will be for making TWRP permanent do these steps or your phone won't boot P.S. you can fix any Samsung phone very simply so don't worry
Do these --Select Keep /system RO. Tap Wipe> Format Data and type “yes”.
All what I said is there in screen so do these things perfectly u just need to read everything properly
10. Now go back to the main menu in TWRP and select Reboot> Recovery . Select don't install TWRP app it's annoying I know u can disable it in settings option in twrp
11. After rebooting recovery flash force encryption remover that u downloaded and then after Tap the Install button in TWRP, navigate to the location where you copied the the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip and select it. Swipe the installation confirmation slider when prompted
12.Now go back to the main menu in TWRP and select Reboot> Recovery
13.When the device reboots into TWRP, tap the Install option, navigate to the Magisk-v15.3.zip and install it. Or the latest magisk zip file
Magisk will now be installed on your device and it will be rooted the next time you boot it up. If not installed download magisk manager and install APK when you boot up to system
When the flashing is complete, tap Reboot> system.
Congratulations! Your new Samsung Galaxy C7PRO is now out of warranty… err… rooted. Open Magisk to verify if your phone has been properly rooted or not.
