2.3.2 recovery image? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On 2.3.2 is the ClockWorkRecovery replaced every time you reboot like it did on 2.3.1 unless you changed the script?

ok thanks it's safe for me to update then.

2.3.2 update and nandroid?
Ok I want to update to 2.3.2 but lets say I wanted to go back to 2.3.1 could I just restore a nandroid or could I just flash the rom?

A nandroid of a 2.3.1 system should overwrite the 2.3.2 updates.
2.3.2 update only affects stuff in the /system partition and the recovery image

ok thanks I was just asking before I did it.

Complete ROM

Does anybody have a complete ROM (any 2.3.1, 2.3.2)? If you restore from a backup drive that is downloadable here and do a root, so my wifi error reports. Prior to root everything is OK.
Thanks and sorry for my english.

There is a Nandroid backup for 2.3.1 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=883 you can use one of this to return to stock and then root again.
There is also a backup for 2.3.2 in the development section.

[Q] successful 3.2.2 Update but restore = BACK to 3.2

very weird thing happening; i updated to 3.2.2 (from my 3.2) all is great. but every time i RESTORE my xoom goes back to 3.2!! and i get "you have an update available from Verizon (ofc i'm rooted so i can't apply it)wot gives? tried it twice same thing reverts back to 3.2 after 3.2.2 is there (until i restore).(thru CWM)
Android-HC-3.2.2-Stock+Rooted-1.1-SOLARNZ.zip
so your saying you go into recovery, and you restore it after you upgraded to 3.2.2, does that mean you have 4g, but dont restore, thats if you cant get out of bootloop or messed up the system or something, or you just dont like the rom you installed, but what you keep doing is reverting it back
when I update and restart I go to settings, about and see it is 3.2.2 then I reboot go to restore and when all done check about again.back to 3.2 and all my apps an profiles r there just reverts me back to 3.2.wot am I doing wrong?
one more thing will my Xoom Verizon (rooted and unlocked) with this update b able to work on another carrier outside the USA? our Telco here just announced 4G LTE (1GB,5GB & 10GB plans). will i b able to use a SIM non verizon?
When you restore in recovery, you are erasing the new files. A restore does that, it restores your system to the way it was before.

but all the previous updates till 3.2 i did exactly the same it never reverted back to the previous version. i remember my xoom 3.0 then wot u said means i could have never reached 3.2
i even used ANOTHER SD card that holds the update only and after update i checked and it was 3.2.2
power off
installed the SD card with the backup and restored ----> back to 3.2
ofc i also tried with the same Micro SD to no avail
OP your post is very confusing.
Read this:
If you have stock firmware and you update say,3.2 to 3.2.2 and you do factory reset(as no restore in stock) you never go back to 3.2
Now,How you did root?
Did you install 3.2.2 rom (rooted from dev section)? or Motorola updated your Xoom to 3.2.2 official that you rooted?
At what point did you create restore? after 3.2.2 or when you were at 3.2?

A:I backup from CWM - latest backup is before updating to 3.2.2
Now,How you did root?
A:From SD - update.zip (Solarz file the usual for i am rooted)
Did you install 3.2.2 rom (rooted from dev section)?
A: yes ofc i can't do OTA even though i have verizon but since i'm rooted won't work like all previous updates gotta get SOLARNZ ones
or Motorola updated your Xoom to 3.2.2 official that you rooted?
A: no can do as explained above
At what point did you create restore? after 3.2.2 or when you were at 3.2?A: 3.2 it is useless to do it after the update for i have nothing (factory wipe + cache wipe and everything that can be wiped ^__^

all my answers in the quote
gonna try something.
just wiped factory/kalvik/battery and cache
restarting my xoom.
once this is done gonna do the restore from my PC thru cable (i just backup thru USB onto my PC gonna restore this way to see wot will happen)
just went to ABOUT: it is 3.2.2 - FCC Eq. ID :IHDP56LU2 - Baseband version unknown - Kernel V. 2.6.36.3-g6963abe
gonna start dumping from PC
Nope ain't working - says this device bla bla bla (stop copying OR skip this file)
Meh i give up on this update.gonna stick to 3.2
Last question i used to just click on restore from CWM Recovery 3.2.0.0
just went to ADVANCED restore and i got Restore:boot/system/data/cache/sd-ext
do i need to skip one of those restore files or it doesn't matter?
tx guys

just using restore is sufficient.
also as you mentioned that you created restore point before updating to 3.2.2 that's why it restores at that point.
if you backup while at 3.2.2 and restore later you will not be on 3.2 but on 3.2.2 (there will be two backups choice so sewlect latest one other will be your old already made backup)
but again i did say that before;the pt of backup is to get ur stuff back in place. all previous backups and restore worked well bearing in mind they always kept the version i upgraded to. except this one. again it just reverted back to my 3.2.
my question is simple . my xoom is fully functioning 3.2
i want to upgrade to 3.2.2
wot to do? (backup / restore wise rest of the steps r a breeze for updates)

[Q] ROM Upgrade and Data Loss

Hi,
I've just rooted my phone and installed the lastest Android Revolution ROM for my HTC sensation XE!
Just wanted to know how updates work - I can see that updates are regularly released - are they pushed to my phone or do I have download the new ROM everytime and reinstall it?
Will this wipe all my data everytime?
Thank you for your help!
There are no OTA updates if thats what you mean...
You just have to regularly check the thread and if there is a newer version... You download it and flash it in recovery

And will I lose all my data everytime I flash a new version of the ROM? Or will most of my data remain as long as I don't superwipe it?
Do any of the ROMs have OTA updates?
Thanks again!
Most of the time you do have to wipe data/cache or superwipe. Some ROM's your apps will re-download automatically once you go into Google Play. You can download titanium backup to back your data up as well.
I don't think they do, none of the ROM's I've had.

(Q)How to stay up to date while rooted?

Rooted with CWM as recovery. Shield Tablet has OTA update but obviously can't install with CWM. What is the simplest way to stay up to date and keep root?
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using xda premium
Still looking for help with this. I have a basic understanding on how things work. Is this what I need to do?
Flash original recovery
Reboot then do the OTA update
Then refresh CWM
Will I lose root?

That's not the way to go at all.
Whenever there's an update, flash the incremental OTA file HERE.
Flashing the stock recovery will not allow taking OTA's.
thank you for the link, which command do I use to flash the incremental update looks like the instructions there are for a full update. thanks again

Um, just flash it in TWRP or CWM, only need to flash cache and dalvik cache, but that's optional.
Im also sorta nooby about this. The only thing I have ever done is flash Cyanogen Mod and install TWRP on my Galaxy Note 3. I have rooted my Shield and installed Uno TWRP out of the box. Thus its not on the latest update. Just to clarify so I don't f*ck up. I just download the latest OTA, copy to my sdcard and flash in TWRP? And that will just update it without having to lose all my apps etc?
EDIT: So incremental updates take from version x.x to version x.x? Oh, and is it true that root is wiped? Im happy to re-root everytime.

Yes that's true, just make sure you flash the incremental updates and not the full OTA's. And as far as root I'm not sure if you loose it, while in recovery might as well just flash SuperSU to be safe.

Ok thanks. One more question. How would I go about checking the rom version? Unless I'm missing it I can only see the Android version, which is 5.0.
EDIT: i'm getting some sort of error when trying to flash the zips. I downloaded (for wifi) 2.0 to 2.1, 2.1 to 2.2 and 2.2 to 2.2.1. Whenever I try to flash it just fails.

Yes, because you need to flash 2.2.1 full ota via custom recovery, and wipe cache dalvik. Then flash again your custom recovery. Then supersu.
If you are rooted with custom rec (twrp, cwm, Philz) you need to flash full ota.
Wouldn't the tablet be wiped then? And if this is the case everytime can't I just keep the stock recovery and sideboard a custom one?
Nope. You just flash on top, like a dirty flash. I use TWRP and Ive done it twice and still kept everything. The only wipe you need to do is cache & dalvik after flashing full OTA.
If you keep stock rec just for the fact of being rooted incremental OTAs wont work

I just flashed full OTA via CWM and lost root.
I had to re fastboot flash recovery and then sideload supersu to root.
It sounds like TWRP is holding root.

With twrp I do it literally after flashing full ota. I leave recovery to reboot to system right when Im done flashing everything.

[Q] Updating to 2.2.1 and Rooting?

Hey guys!
I have the US 16GB WiFi only model of the SHIELD tablet, it's rooted, bootloader is unlocked, and I'm running 5.0.1 with a custom recovery.
I'm just a little confused as to how to updated to the 2.2.1 software that was recently released. I'm still on 2.1, and when I try to update it asks to update to 2.2 rather than the current, 2.2.1.
However it's been awhile since the last time I installed an update and I forgot the process in order to flash updates and make sure SuperSU is installed, etc.
Can anybody help me out and give me the few steps I need to take in order to make sure I still have root and my custom recovery installed as well as the 2.2.1 update? Thanks.
If you need anymore info just ask.
*UPDATE*
I downloaded the Incremental OTA update for my model from here, and used the 2.1 - 2.2 MEGA file.
I put it on my /sdcard/0/, and tried flashing it via CWM and I got this error:
Code:
Package expects build fingerprint of nvidia/wx_na_wf/shieldtablet:5.0.1/LRX22C/29082_493.9700:user/release-keys or nvidia/wx_na_wf/shieldtablet:5.0.1/LRX22C/29979_512.4856:user/release-keys; this device has nvidia/wx_na_wf/shieldtablet:4.4.2/KOT49H/22229_

Seems like your trying to upgrade from 1.2, to 2.2....
Are you currently on Android 4.4.4?
I can confirm that I am running Lollipop 5.0.1
But yeah I noticed that too. It thinks I'm running 4.4.2?
Anyone? Any ideas?

Maybe there's just a glitch, or a ghost line of code preventing it from flashing.
My only advice would be to do a full wipe and just flash the full OTA instead of the incremental one.
What's the safest way of doing this?
I have Titanium Backup, and do I just use CWM to do a full wipe? Or something else?
And I'm sure it'll lose root if I do a full wipe. Would I just flash SuperSU after flashing the full OTA in order to get it back?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm not a total amateur, just not an expert.

Exactly what you said. Full wipe, then reflash SuperSU.
You'll also have to reflash CWM, as flashing the full OTA in CWM, flashes the stock recovery.
Okay so, I need to put the full OTA on my device, and then wipe? Or vice versa?
Because won't the full wipe remove the full OTA if it's on my device?
So, full wipe, flash OTA, flash CWM, flash SuperSU? (Please correct me if this order is wrong)

Because u cant do that. You cant flash an incremental OTA via custom rec.
If u are rooted you need to flash latest FULL OTA vía custom recovery, reflash supersu andnyou should be ready
There is no need to full wipe everything. Just "dirty flash" it. Make a nandroid just in case.
1- Make nandroid
2- Flash full ota
3- Wipe cache & dalvik
4- Flash custom rec
5- Flash supersu
That should do it.
So the nandroid backup just won't work through CWM, it fails when trying to backup /data.
I've tried wiping the cache and still nothing. If I just want to go ahead and do a full wipe, where would that be in the steps you gave me?
Thanks!

Yes this is correct. And when I say full wipe, if it's not obious, DON'T wipe internal storage, or External SD card.
