[Q] After moving the .android_secure folder, the phone became crazy! - General Questions and Answers

Hello, I had the Unknown reason -18 error from Android Market. I read that one possible fix was to delete the .android_secure folder. I did that but I backed it up to my laptop.
After that I realised that this removed all my apps from my SD so I moved the backup to the sd back in order to restore all apps. But then the problem started. Now I'm supposed to have all the files exactly same as before but, for some reason my phone get stucked when I have to enter the PIN. It does not respond at anything, I thought It was checking the SD files again but it has passed about 30 minutes and still the same. Tried to reboot ( i have to remove battery because the switch off button does not respond) and everytime I'm getting stucked when the SD card seems to be checking files.... What can I do to restore my phone like before? I know one fix is to completely delete .android_secure folder but I would have to reinstall all my sd apps, (thats about 90 apps!!) and probably I'd lost all app's data...
Than you for your help,
Cheers!
(My mobile device is a Nexus One)

Ok, I did a Windows Scandisk over my SD card and it fixed some problems, after that, the mobile did started and all my apps were recovered... What's more after removing the smdl2tmp1.asec file from .android_security folder solved the -18 problem issue.
Everything it's good now =)

[Q] SD card will not mount.

I was deleting crap on my sd card to free up some space. I cant remember everything i deleted but now i can not get the card to read in the phone. It says it it not mounted. I have tried to remount it in settings but nothing happens it just says i can remove the sd card. I can not plug it in to the computer because the phone will not enter disk drive mode. I tried a nandroid back up but it says something about md5 sums mismatch.
I am running ARHD xd 3.6 with the kernal that comes with it as well as the preferred radio.
Htc said to do a factory reset of the phone. Which i would rather not do. Is there a way to reformat the SD card there is little on there that i really care about. Reformatting would be my last resort but if that is the only fix then sure. Thanks guys!
I would not reformat it unless you take the files to your computer. See if you can get a hold of an as card adaptor for your pc and transfer your files so you can transfer them back. Reformatting will completely erase everything and I don't know how your device will react to you having your custom Rom removed.
It won't have anything to go off of I would think. I've never had this problem but I'm giving you my heat advice. But reformat before you factory reset.
First you can try and use an sd card reader and reformat the sd card. If you dont have that you can do nandroid backup through recovery to save your system data and apps. Then do a factory restore, maybe even a EXT4 reformat. after that you can reflash your rom and restore your backups.
PS If you dont want to use recovery backups for any reason you can always use titanium backup for apps (I wouldnt recommend backing up system data), make sure your accounts are synced, and even use an sms backup app for your text messages.
I was scared the actual phone was not reading the sd card or that the ROM had stopped it from reading correctly so i grabbed my wifes 2gig card threw it in there and the phone read it no problem at all. I just put my card back in and did a wipe of it was clear of any errors and worked perfectly. Immediately after i made a nandroid backup.
I could restore a nandroid backup because they are stored on the SD card and since it was connected i was getting a md5 checksum error. I looked up the error and tried to push the back up through adb shell but once again with out the sd card reading correctly no restore could be done. All my contacts are saved through gmail, photos are all uploaded the gogole+ as soon as they are taken so really the only stuff i lost was my nandroid backup from the stock rom.
thanks for the help guys.
Ya it happens some times it sounds like your weren't too attached to anything on the card so that's good.
I've said it before make a back up of your back ups. Put em ib a safe folder on your pc if you can. Hope. You can get back to normal good luck.

[Q] Big problem! Need help!

Hi. I was going to update from Elegancia 1.4.3 to 1.4.4. As usual, I make a nandroid backup before flashing. And also backed up all my apps.
After I took the nandroid backup, I syncronised my phone with HTC Sync to save my contacts, pictures music etc. Then I deleted one of my old backups, since I need a little more space on my SD card. I had around 3 GB.
After I deleted it, now my phone says I have 1,2 GB. Everything on my SD card is gone, then I mean pictured and music, also rom manager keeps FC, Titanium backup wont give me busybox checked (got premium installed)
I also can't get my pictured and music back when I sync my phone with HTC Sync..
WHAT IS WRONG? And why does it say I have 1,2 GB left on my SD card when nothing is on my phone anymore. It does work, but this is making me frustrated..
Nothing wrong with the phone, run smoothly, but it is just the thing I have mentioned that irritates me.
Thanks in advance.
By chance, did you delete everything using an Ubuntu or other Linux computer?
If so, the trash files could still be there. You can fix it by remounting the SD card to the computer and emptying the trash.
If you did this through the phone or via Windows....then I dunno.
But you could always try saving the contents of the card to a computer, formatting the card from within the phone, and copying the saved files back. That might fix you up.

[Q] Apps on SD card not showing

Sorry, its a bit of a novel, but wanted to give as much detail as possible.
I have a rooted LG P500 running cm7, with a partitioned SD card.
Today the apps on the SD card have stopped showing. The only thing I have done different today is uninstall update on play store as I was having some issues with it, I believe the apps were briefly there after this, and also it has now updated itself from market back to play store and things are still wrong, so I don't think this is the issue.
They are not showing at all in the app drawer, the ones I have shortcuts to in that bit down the bottom (don't know what its called sorry) have a green and white square android icon, and do nothing if touched. If I go into "settings", "applications", "storage use", then "SD card", it accurately shows the amount of storage I have left on the SD card, so its not like its not picking it up at all, but everything in the list that is on the SD card has a grey icon by it instead of the proper picture. Actually scrolling through the list right now, I can see the majority have the grey icon, but there is a couple with their normal icon. Some of those with the normal icon show up in my app drawer, and some don't, so its actually affecting the apps to varying degrees rather than them all not working.
If I try move anything new to the SD card it says "failed to move application"
If I go into "my apps" on play store, it is impossible to compare them all, but at least some are missing.
I have tryed each of the following several times:
Reboot
Unmount and remount SD card
Reinsert battery
The latest time I rebooted I noticed that now although all the apps are not loading still, some of the ones that did are different ones to last time.
Any ideas?
Thanks
The next thing I have tryed is I formatted the FAT32 partition and put on a back up of the SD card I made a couple of weeks ago, it made no difference.
I would like to format both the FAT32 and EXT2 partitions and repartition and start completely over again, but not sure how to do this, can't see the EXT2 partition in easeus.
ETA : I managed to get rid of the partion, format the whole card to fat32 then partition again, then put my SD card back up from a couple of weeks ago back on, and still the same problem! I am out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated.

what happens when you install a new app? Does it show up in app drawer? Also did you have any backup of the apps using Titanium backup?
Try some other application.. a2sd, s2e, link2sd.
Also make a swap partition.
It won't let me install any new apps, I have backups but it won't let me create anymore, it lets me restore some, but not all.
What I did with the sd card last night really screwed things up, I ended up having to go back to a nandroid. File manager is saying the sd card is empty, and I am having trouble using usb storage connected to computer, so I think I have really stuffed things.
I am going to try any ideas including the above on tonight, but if I can't fix I might just unroot, factory reset and sell the phone, go back to a text and call cheapy, i've had a lot of problems with this, although all others I have been able to fix, but most seem to come down to the fact i'm pushing apps to sd because of low internal storage, might be better off waiting to get android until I can afford a better phone.
Anyhow, i'm willing to spend another night trying to fix this, so any ideas appreaciated. Thanks
ETA:
Update, I got USB storage turned on, my computer says sd is corrupted or unreadable. Is this fixable? Thanks
Another update, when I turned off USB storage my phone also told me the card was corrupted and gave me the option to format it,, so I formatted it through the phone this time, windows is now recognising it and I am transfering back an old backup onto it, I will come back and update if it works so noone has to waste their time helping me, if I don't come back it didn't work and I will be back to try to fix the problem tonight. Thanks
Update: I am now back to a similar position as I was in at the beginning of the thread. WHen I get home I am going to reinstall the darktremor scripts as the nandroid I went to didn't have that by the looks, then hopefully once I can start utilising the EXT partition again I will be able to restore from ti backup. I'm not holding my breath though as I couldn't do this earlier on.
I know I said I wouldn't be doing it till tonight but I really wanted to get this fixed so I have been messing around with it all morning. Had all kinds of problems, but have finally got sd card partitioned, not corrupted, and both partitions recognised as they should be. My apps are still not there, however play store is letting me install now, so I am redownloading them. Titanium back up is saying there is no backups of anything, and it can't find any profiles, however as I am redownloading apps all the data that should be there is there, so yay. I will sit down tonight and spend alot of time redownloading everything, then I will make new backup with titanium. I just hope once I have done it all the apps stay there this time LOL. Thanks for the help, I will be back if it doesn't all go as planned.
ETA: Never mind I need help again already. After redownloading just a couple of apps I decided to check that ti backup would do a backup, it won't do even a single backup because of unsufficient storage space, however I have 7.4gb free on sd, 125mb free on internal and 259mb on sd-ext, why isn't there enough room?
If it helps, on my SD card there is a folder called "backups", with a folder called "apps" in it which is full of .apk file from apps i've download, and I also have a "Titanium backup" folder with properties and GZ files in it. I'm definitely not going to do anymore until tonight as I have no idea what to do now that ti backup won't restore or backup.
That backup folder is of astro file manager backup. Titanium backup is always buggy specially after you "patch it".
Best option. Delete all partitions.. format (not quick) your sdcard if possible from pc. Reflash the current rom ( make sms call bookmark and all sort of backup).. do complete wipe. Start from beginning. Fresh phone would do good!! Try some other apps too.. link2sd and s2e are good!!
Edit: Dont move ti backup to sd.. let it be in internal memory!!
had happened to me once. The SD ext becomes corrupted if my mistake the a2sd script gets deleted. u have to then reflash ur rom and script to get it working again. b4 that wipe ur SD card and partition it again. And use gobackup to backup and restore apps. it's simple and stable.

Thanks, as in my last post I did eventually get the sd card working after a few formats and repartitioning, I was having trouble with titanium backup no recognising any backups, but as I was reinstalling things that suddenly fixed itself (no idea why) so I was able to restore my backups.
The a2sd script did get deleted, but not until after I was already having problems and had to go back to a nandroid, it was the nandroid I took before originally partitioning the card so the script wasn't there, which probably didn't help things!
My ti backup is on SD, so I will move it back to the phone thanks.
Alls well that ends well, but got stressful there for a while! Had a few issues before, but none that took as long to solve as this one. I am on the lookout for a bargain on a phone that has bigger internal memory, but glad to get this working again in the meantime. Thanks everyone.
ETA: Also I did solve the problem with titanium backup saying there was no room to backup, so everything is working perfectly now. Unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember how I did it, but if I do I will come back here and post it in case anyone else has the same problem in the future.

Should I allow my PC to scan and fix my internal SD card?

A few days ago I entered phone hell. At the time, the phone was on the last stock upgrade from AT&T, wasn't even rooted and didn't have a custom recovery. Short story is that it soft bricked out of nowhere for no apparent reason. I finally gave up on fixing it, installed TWRP recovery, did a Nandroid backup, wiped everything twice and reinstalled stock through Odin. Fortunately the Nandroid backup recovered my data and my apps, so I was able to selectively restore through Titanium.
Now that even though both the internal and external SD cards are more than 50% empty, I can't do anything like update apps or sync gmail because of insufficient storage. When I connect it to my PC, Windows Explorer recommends that I scan and fix the card. I suspect that whatever Windows is seeing caused my brick and the lack of space issues.
Is it okay to let Windows do the scan and fix?
Long story short? No...
Enable hidden files and folders in explorer and find the directory that is eating up the space.
Either that or USB connect it, copy everything over, disconnect and wipe from phone (settings > storage > erase) and then reconnect and copy everything back

[SOLVED] Link2SD - Lost my apps - How do I restore ?

SOLVED - I just reinstalled all the APK, automatically linking them on the SD card. The data was still on the EXT4 partition, so everything was found by the apps.
--------------
Hi,
Link2SD was working really nice, until randomly, I kept getting errors saying it cannot links the apps...
So I've fulled backed up my EXT4 partition on my computer (Just drag and dropped the folders. Not sure if this was correct), powered off the phone, reformetted the EXT4 partition with GParted, copied the files back in with Linux, put the SD card back in the phone, power it ON;
But now, Link2SD does not detect the apps that I've copied back on the card - although it can link the apps again.
The apps that were restored simply doesn't appear anywhere (But are on the partition).
Is there any way I can restore the full EXT4 backup I've took ?

Your solution didn't work for me because it just gave an error whenever I tried to reinstall one of the previously linked apps. Likely because of the excess files leftover from the original because it would let me install new apps but not the missing ones. I tried to delete some files manually for an app or two, but that didn't work either. I found an easy solution though that works.
SOLUTION:
Just open Link2SD. Click the top left corner for the menu. Then click on "Clean up the 2nd partition". When I did it said it needed to delete 104 unused files, so I said ok. Afterwards, actually all but 2(out of 32) of my apps were restored with data automatically and those two I just restored from Titanium Backup.
NOTE FOR ANYONE TRYING THIS:
If it's still not working after that, then just try to reboot and see if they reappear. If you do lose some apps, at least you can reinstall or restore them from a backup after that. Again I only lost 2, but the other 30 missing linked apps were restored.
