I have been searching for recommendations on custom roms and since I am new I do not know if they are up to date.
I have heard of manial 2.5 and 2.1; but do not know what they are.
Also I heard there are custom roms of 6.1 and 6.5 but what is the difference?
To install a 6.5 rom do you need the 6.5 stock rom or can you do it from 6.1 stock rom?
I want performance, stability, speed, web browsing, and landscape slide out usable along with so it will work if I turn the phone and all sensors usable.
I am wishing to getting a head start since I am getting my Sprint CDMA TP2 in a few days. Any TP2 users here that think this phone is good and had it for a while?
NRG (aka EnergyRom) is probably the most popular ROM, i've been using it in various iterations since 12/09. It works well though Sprint picture mail can be problematic at times and I've been unable to disable HTC's texting/sms app (It can be ridiculously slow when you have a long conversation). 6.5 is a little more touch friendly than 6.1 but it's not a huge change. I use NRG's rom with sensity and CHT v2.0(cookie home tab which increases home screen flexibility). XDAndroid is also very nice (I'll switch permanently once they get the headphones working)
I have used nrg rom and have currently been using the superrom.
It's bare-bones and very fast. I had to add some of the .cab's that
i wanted but they are really easy to find. Phone has only frozen
on me like once and i have a large amount of text messages stored
on the phone.

Like i freezes on texts, will if freeze if I write emails on the web? Like on a forum post I may want to reply using my phone, but my reply will be long; will it freeze that way?

I have tried about 15 already and have just decided 'Mighty Rom' will be sticking around. Very fast and stable it seems.

I hope it doesn't have the same flaws as energy rom. I think I will stick with the stock Rom first. Can you list me any internet, text, calling, landscape mode, sensors, physical keyboard etc. any other possible flaws it may have? Is it wm 6.1 or 6.5 layout?
Can you link me to the most up to date mighty rom thread and original maker?
The HTC messaging problem and sprint picture mail problems aren't ROM specific. HTC messaging can take 20+ seconds to load when you've got a ton of messages(it doesn't affect the web browser or email), you can bypass this by clicking all messages before replying to a new text (this opens the default text client rather than the HTC one). There are fixes that are supposed to bypass HTC messaging entirely but they don't seem to work.
The sprint picture mail problem is due to sprint picture mail not really sending pictures but instead links to pictures (you have to install arcsoft messaging and some other files to make it work). Sharky's rom may not have this problem (since it was developed specifically for sprint) but pretty much any other custom rom will.
Sounds like you already got your answer! Try my ROM Check my sig. for my PPC Geeks thread. Seeing as how that site is more geared to CDMA, that's where all my ROM action is.
Are there any other roms that are made for Sprint winmo 6.5?
How much memory RAM does your rom have on boot up sharky?
I just today noticed on stock I am unable to send/ receive text messages but can call and browse the internet. Problem happened after a few installs like flash lite, nfs shift, resco explorer, and maybe sktools cleanup has ran and broke it. So I plan on moving on to a custom rom.
Do any custom roms change radio? Because I HOPE NOT. I don't want an SAR change lol. SAR level change will be bad.
in refferance to sktools clean up.......you have to be carefull what you delete esspecially in the invalid registory entries and values mode......i usualy leave that alone unless i no for sure what i am deleting wont affect the phone.....and also just go to your file explorer/mydocuments/regsrybkp and restore what was deleted....
I couldn't find registry backup anywhere.
got your reply my friend..get back to you in a few hours...
ok...i am no expert...ther are a lot of smart guys in this forum when it comes to ppc's...thumbs up to them...what i no about this is experience because i have deleted 100 things before i learned...i no that if you use the registry cleaner in sktools it will tell you that things are invalid and so on....when they are actually valid....why, i dont no...but first check to see if back up deleted entries is selected to yes.....in your sktools program under tools menu go to settings...then scroll to invalid registry entries and at the bottom of that list you will find that option...the same for invalid registry values...if they both are yes then everything you deleted should be in your files program under 'registrybkp'....mine is under 'mydocuments'/'registrybkp'.....and if the deleted entries are there just tap on each one and they should automatically restore...and last, if for some reason you dont have any backups then a hard reset would be my advice to you.....i hope that helped .....good luck and just keep going by trial and error!
MR.X ROM! is super fast but you cant send picture mails

I'm not allowed yet to post outside links, so you'll have to search Howard forums for this:

I have maybe a dumb question. What does a cooked ROM give me, more functionality and features or just cosmetic modifications?
Thanks
All of the above. More stability as well. Phone rarely freezes to the point where it needs a hard reset and also no screen of deaths.

Is there any way I could get manual or at least a list of features for each ROM?
It's either on the rom forum page or you check the rom out yourself. Usually the original poster in the first post will list a list of features and give pictures for their rom. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and don't forget to thank me if I helped.

Can i install this on my unbranded Kaiser ?
Well, i know i CAN, but should i ?
I noticed the OS is newer than helmi's kaiser 0.7.0, so i would like this one, if there are no problems...
thanks mc. this is another solid room.
i got a bug. while in messaging (email or text) i cannot see the pictures of the people who send the message. i can see just a little bit of it, but most of it is showing off the screen. almost as if i was using an app made for vga on a non vga device. anyone else notice this?
edit:
okay so when this happens....slide the keyboard out...then close it...and the message returns to its normal format with the pic fully viewable. any thoughts?
whoa....i just pushed the mail button on the front the phone reset itself...hmmmm

Helmi,
Any chance of you making a Dynamic + BigStorage ROM out of this?
I could install all the AT&T cabs I need, but then I also don't want PTT or HTC Task Manager... Plus, from your HTC ROMs with the same build and kernel, the Dynamic ones seem to be the most stable and quickest to me.
Thanks in advance and for what you've done up to now anyway. Really apreciate the work you put into this. Donation will soon follow (and that's not a bribe).

didn't experience this, tried to re-create by:
-hitting the mail soft key after boot from initial flash
-power-down/power-up then press mail key once today screen loads
-hard reset
-after today screen loads from reboot hit mail key
-power down/power up and then hit mail key
everytime the messaging applet open......
maybe i'm doing something wrong.
rom runs great and possibly even fixed a past issue....
i have an at&t tilt that i purchased from an at&t coporate store on the day of the US release.
i hard-spl'd the day hard-spl was released to shed that god awfull thinguhmabob at&t had on this phone that was more like TnT on Tilt.
proceeded to flash the htc ship rom and somewhere inbetween a pixel died right above the "m" in smart mobility.
the pavarotti pixel was evident on every subsequent boot as well as opening any non-white variant background page/app.
since flashing this rom that that dead pixel is johnny alive.
i know this rom fixed the dead pixel because after flashing every kaiser rom/cooked-rom on xda the dead pixel remained, um, well dead.
the the at&t rom to me felt more like a caveman trying to use a stick, on a rock, to draw a buffalo with some headless stick people dancing around doing the caveman robot.
i have experienced no issues yet but as with most self-reports, this is subjective.
Edit (oct-19-2007 1:34p cst):
after some 12 hours of use, the phone (or screen input), has become unresponsive similar to the at&t rom. unresponsive meaning; i am on the today screen and click start-settings. the transition to the settings menu is quick but once i arrive to the settings menu the screen freezes (or rather any stylus inputs are delayed by 2-3 seconds if even received). to me it seems like the device is polling something like the sd card or ptt (only roms i've experienced this on have been with ptt) but my gut could be off as i'm late for lunch and my gut is hungry.
having said this, this rom, for me, is somewhat un-usable. i have hard re-setted 3x now in attempt to correct said lag but lag wins. in between the 1st and 2nd hr's i loaded up pocket + 4.0, resco explorer 6.16, resco registry, resco ftp. did a hard reset once the device started to lag with said software installed. currently i have no apps installed and still experience extremem lag on just cooked-stock-default settings/apps. going back to htc ship.

I'm anxious to install this on my Tilt -
A couple of questions -
1) Which dialpad is it using? The same as on the original AT&T ROM, or the Eten dialer that has been packaged with the other Kaiser ROMs?
2) Any guess if TomTom 6.032 will work with this one (assuming I already had it working on my Tilt with a Kaiser ROM)?
3) Safe to assume that, since this a Tilt package, there's no need to install the keyboard remapping hack (or manually configure data connections)?
Also - I haven't seen any chatter about this in a (short) while - Do you notice any improvement on this ROM (or any other for that matter) with the tinny/distant sound of bluetooth headsets?
Thanks so much for your hard work on this!!!!!!!!!!
AMG
is this rom running significantly faster than the htc 070 rom? i mean is it worth it to jump ship again, and install everything again? or people just want this rom for the storage
i very highly doubt a signifgant change in speed because there is no signifigant change in the rom....it's probably a user opinion kind of thing....only way to prove is benchmark...but most likely nothing worth spending 1 hr of software setup blah blah

Hey guys,
I am trying my best not to upgrade to WM6.1 on my SP5..
I love my phone with its factory OS.. Though i am curious to what i am missing out on by staying with WM5.
Can someone give me some advantages of WM6.1 over WM5?
And if i was to upgrade.. Do any of these cooked up versions just install and run without any further tweaking?
Thanks for your input
Hi there,
Please proceed to my blog for step by step instruction
http://karhoe.net/htctornado
Why upgrade to WM6.1?
1) Faster
2) Alot of useless stuff removed
3) Running Net compact framework 2.0/3.5
4) More functions
5) GUI improved
6) Windows Mobile (old one) removed savings extra 4-5MB, so now you can install the latest Windows Live Mobile which has more features as well
7) and many more....
Just go to my blog, follow the steps precisely, and it will work flawlessly.
wow you have me convinced
thanks very much.. especially like the fact you have the same phone as me too!
oh hang on..
the upgrade will work flawlessy? or the OS will?
like Wifi, bluetooth etc all ok?
Everything is perfect, WiFi, BT, etc
But there are some minor bugs, which won't really affect you, you have to check the thread of the cooked ROM.
I suggest this ROM, and the thread is here

wm6 windows live
Hi
I cannot get any version of wm live to run on your rom Karhoe (wm6.1 platinum). Tried the one on your website too. HELP!
Regards
whats threaded messaging?
Means SMS is like chatting style
well i did the upgrade about a month ago..
i love the sliding panel theme.. though i cant handle the issue with syncing on 2 PCs not working and the issue with dismissing reminders..
I think im going back to the original ROM.
Or would i have more luck with WM6.0?
Karhoe can you recommend a WM6.0 rom and/or a better WM5 ROM than the original i-mate one?
I take it since my phone is now supercid i can just flash away as normal without bothering with formatting the BINFS?
Thanks again for your help.
this one is perfect

just try... nothing to lose...
thanx redred will take look
hmm... got the same problem with dismissing reminders not working with that ROM too..
Reminder comes up.. hit dismiss.. reminds again and again until its actually past the time of the appointment..
sigh.. looks like its back to WM5...
strange...
i'm using appointments 3~4 times in week and everything works ok

It looks like you need to purge outlook on your PC mate. You must have multiple entries for same apointment. I've had a similar problem every now and then, where Outlook fails or I did a Sync on another pc, and when back to main PC, it screws up outlook. Have had to go and view all apointments, birthdays, etc and clean it up manually.
Also, review how you have your settings, ie "Show 2 weeks" if more than that and you have lots of apointments, it'll go crazy on u.
I've used Nitros Platinum Rom for ever and it works great. Am using now SGreg's Rose Rom, also working good(but w/o the extras on Nitros).
Good Luck!
how much better than 6.0
I flashed up to 6.0 when I first got my 2125, am running WM6 standard CE OS 5.2.1616 build 18120.0.4.0, radio 4.1.13.28_02.61.01 RIL 2.002.
I am relatively happy with speed, and all the apps I installed, etc. I am thrilled with the stability and versatility (phone is also my mp3 and movie player, camera, video recorder, messaging system, etc.).
I have heard rumors that the 6.1 ROM drains the battery faster. True?
I have heard rumors that some bluetooth stuff is not as stable?
The reasons I might upgrade include the fact that some software I put on the phone did not completely uninstall and the ROM I am running has very many features I do not want or use and they clutter up everything .
What is the consensus? Is it worth flashing up again?
looks like it was the time sync from network causing the issue.. turned it off now they dismiss without issue!
also i kinda like 6.0 more than 6.1 didnt like the threaded msging and the way you compose in 6.1
the only way I see 6.1 draining the battery faster than 6 on my phone is that 6.1's Media Player doesn't turn off the screen light while playing music. Other than that, I haven't noticed a battery drain.
flashing up to 6.1 from 6.0
Thanks. Which 6.1 "clean" distro should I use? I have collected the .CABs and don't mind re-layering all the apps I use. I would also love to be able to completely uninstall Windows Media player since I run CORE (TCPMP).
Hi Everyone...
I did something to my phone and now I am looking to reflash it. I loved how I had my phone, but thought maybe a newer rom would help me out... I had the stock 6.0 installed. I used it primarly with TomTom.. I have the HTC Home installed and love it, but if touch flo is cool I would consider that as well.. I also love all the S2U, S2P, etc and other applications that made it very finger friendly, I like to be able to see what I have scheduled at a glance.. I do a lot of TXT messaging... I also like to play games on it (I use the nintendo enulator a lot) I have a 16gb microSD card so I have plentry of room if it need to install on the card as well (I had a Motorola MPX200 that I had to do that with). I also use Voice Command often. I would like instant messaging to be a breeze.
My Cellphone Service Provider is not AT&T (Einstein Wireless) and I would need to be able to put all the settings for them for internet and otehr network setting into it... so I need no AT&T bloatware or special software... I do take some pictures with my phone from time to time... so if there was a "Better" camera program that would be cool too...
I am hoping that there is a rom that has most of all of these features cooked in so setup will be a time saver... I know I will still ahve to manually enter the carrier info, but the extra software and stuff would be great.. If you are using a rom that does most of this and you love, let me know.. I am looking ot do this tomorrow..
Before this gets closed by the mods, our general suggestion is to try the different cooked ROMs available. The threads for each should show a list of applications included with the ROMs, so you can determine from the included apps if it is a ROM you are willing to try. If you have never flashed a cooked ROM, please check out the Wiki for instructions to prepare your phone for flashing cooked ROMs. It will save you a lot of headache.
You'd be better to try a few of the cooked ROMs and see what you like. The ROM's on the first two pages are the most popular ones at the moment. See what they contain from the firs few pages.
Thread closed as per guidelines.

Well I'm sad to say but all the ROMs I have tried in the past couple of weeks haven't worked for me...
The story of my ROMs experimentation starts with T-Mobile Vario III and T-Mobile customized ROM. In short, like a worst nightmare! New version of T-Mobile customized ROM, nothing happened, everything was exactly same as with previous version.
Then I finally decided to try couple of WM 6.5 ROMs which worked like a charm but WM 6.5 is beta and half of the stuff in it is unfinished... Back to 6.1...
Than: HyperDragon (a few variants), shifu, Paradox, AthineOS, TPCExtreme, Ultimate-X... Mostly SuperRam ROMs... Hundred of pages in topics, dozens of fixes, black screens, restarts and so on... Applications that I don't need, folders confusingly organized, startup and bootup screens that don't fit to one business phone, black background icons (what's wrong with WM icons with transparent background) and so on...
Currently using stock HTC ROM and it works. It is sluggish but my device doesn't restart and I don't have to install at least 5 programs or fixes to make him work...
My question: Can someone point me to ROM that works without reading through 100 pages of topics and installing fixes for stuff that should work like notification and volume control? I use my Kasier as a business phone and primary e-mail reading device and I can't afford for my Kaiser to be offline for couple of hours (not to mention a day) and don't have time to read thousands of posts of "how-to-fix".
What do I need? Messaging (SMS and e-mail with notifications working), Opera, iGO, working Volume control, Bluetooth and jog wheel to be able to quickly quite my device if in a meeting or to change the volume of speaker when in a call.
I don't mean to disrespect all the chef's around and I do appreciate your work because for most of people around here you make their Kaisers work the way they should work!

I totally agree...
Anyway, if you look at the way PDACorner organized his post, you'll see that on post #2, there is a list of known bug with links to all fixes... This is really a way of organizing things that I personnally like very much and can save you from reading 1000s of posts for getting the info...
Flashing is for those of us who want to make our phones perfect, the best Apps, the best speed, the very best function and style. We don't mind a little work to or reading to get them " exactly " the way we want it.
I have worked at getting My phone perfect ( also a business phone ) and it is. None of the problems that you seem to think are inherent in every cooked rom.
You sound to me like the stock rom type not the cooked rom type. Do it HTC's way and stick with the stock rom.
There is a huge difference between stock roms and cooked roms. Stock roms are meant to work flawlessly, without bugs and without too many additional software. The default configuration will work, will (most likely) not crash, but won't do anything fancy either. It might also be slow at times.
Cooked roms are made for those who would like to experiment. People who don't mind a crash now or then, and don't mind to reflash every day/week/month (tick the one that applies ).
If i would use my phone for business purposes i would probably stay with the stock ROM or flash a stable 6.1 ROM, like PDACorner's.
Nevertheless there is no such thing as a perfect ROM. Every ROM has it's advantages as well as disadvantages. Live with it; Windows Mobile just isn't a perfect mobile OS, while doubting the fact any OS can be...
I switch ROM's on a regulary basis. Basic functions always work, no matter the ROM. I flash because additional features work better/faster/more stable on certain ROM's than others. But this requires some of your time, to flash and set everything up again.
The fun is that all of this is up to you. If you like to experiment, then flash as much as you like until you find something you like. There will always be certain flaws where you will have to live with.
There is no such thing as perfect ROM! Always remember to keep flashing and keep reading!

Do you also think that Vista is flawless and without bugs

Read, my friend. I said they are meant to work without bugs and work flawlessly in a default configuration. You won't hear me say that they always do.
Nevertheless the stock ROM will in most cases do sort of everything the way it is meant to be. The change of finding broken application links or errors from mortscript i.e., is pretty small, if not none. And if these errors do appear, you've obviously bought a phone of bad quality.
This said, i'm not using a stock ROM myself. In that case i wouldn't reply to this topic. I'm someone, just like the rest here i suppose, who likes to switch to the newest, even though the quality might be worse then what i've had. But i'm always in for something new, which you might not be if you're using you phone for business purposes and do very much rely on the call quality, for example.
It's simple really either you stick to stocks or you become a flasher @ which point you will flash untill you find that ROM that you know can be used every day and still carry on flashin to try find a new better ROM if you don't like or got bugz you flash back to your every day ROM......
If it all seems tooo much and your a person who can't problem solve "read" and also put in the time to set up device as you wish then a stock is best bet.
Goverment Health Warning:
After flashing you may suffer from Flashers OCD!!!

Then you have one last choice in picking up a kitchen and learning to cook your own rom, but above warning still applies.
yes
As it has been said, rom flashing is personal preference, please find the perfect one for you whether it is a oem or custom rom through searching and flashing.

I have a Sprint TP2 running Winmobile 6.1 and I am considering applying the upgrade to 6.5. I am a fairly new Winmobile user having spent a few years with Palm OS devices having left Winmobile for that. I find Winmobile to be much improved this time around. My TP2 is now running very smoothly since I disabled Push Internet (cab found here...Thank you very much!) Before that I had many freezes and had to hard reset about once a week and apply my backup. (Resco Backup) I also have applied a few other very useful registry hacks that I found here as well that have added to the functionality of my TP2.
I have many 3rd party apps that I love. To name a few of my favorites;
Tom Codon's WiFi Router-So awesome!!!!!!
SK Tools-Indespensible to me for keeping my TP2 running smoothly
Elecont Weather for the Today screen
Elecont Launcher for the Today screen
pmClean
Skype
Skyfire
Qik
I don't use TF3D as I prefer to have the info that I wish to see at a glance on my screen so I use the traditional Today screen and with Elecont Launcher I am able to launch the apps that I use most frequently right from my Today screen. Plus, it's a bit of a memory hog and I prefer my phone to be snappy. I suffer from memory OCD-always looking to see how much memory I am using! Currently I run around 34%-40%.
My questions are;
1) If I upgrade to 6.5 will I still be able to have the traditional Today screen like I have with 6.1?
2) Will I gain an appreciable amount of other benefits to make it worth the work of installing the new rom, reinstalling all of my apps, and setting up all of the other settings the way I like them? (and if so, what are they?)
3) Are there any apps that I listed that you know won't function on 6.5?
Lastly, I just really wish to thank you all for your work! I really love this forum!
Thanks in advance for your input!

I would love to know too. I use SPB Mobile Shell 3.5, so the upgrade to Sense 2.5 if of no use to me.
Will 6.5 offer any stability or speed improvements?
Thanks!
Do it!
Just make the "tweaks" you need.
I think one of the only benefits you will gain in 6.5 is some of the features are more touch friendly. Everything you mentioned should work fine in the upgrade also. If you want to improve the touch friendliness you could also install some themes which skin winmo (so you don't have to hard reset, re-install, etc).
If you do decide to go w/ 6.5, customization won't be too difficult if you use programs like resco and XDA UC Customize. IN my experience, the stock 6.1 ROM is about the most stable available once all tweaks are applied.
I upgraded from Verizon 6.1 to Verizon 6.5.
I have regreted it and when I'm in the mood for a hard reset, I will go likely back to 6.1.
I've had a lot of incompatabilities. I prefer using the Today screen, but a number of my prefered apps fail or cause lockup issues that I never had before. So generally, I am stuck with using the Sensui 2.1 interface, which is very limiting IMHO.
Can't say if the Sprint version is as poor.

in my experience the vzw 6.5 is no good. Try one of the custom 6.5 you will probably have a much better experience.
Wow! Thanks for all of the input!
Well...with much fear and trepidation, I went. I found that I could still use the traditional Today screen and all of the apps that I was using on 6.1. Heck, I was even able to use Elecont Launcher even though it isn't supported for 6.5. Funny thing on the way to all of that though...after playing with the HTC Sense UI I found that I can customize it more than I could TF3D and I'm pretty happy with it over using the traditional Today screen. I will use it until I get bored, then I'll try a custom rom. (Hehe...3 mos?) I need to learn more about those before I take that leap though!
Thank you all so much for weighing in!

Welcome to WinMo 6.5 and Sense. Here are some nice links:
Mods for Sense UI **make sure you download the correct version of Sense Mods, check your version in device info**
Themes and Apps sorted by most viewed (popular)
Also, you might wanna check out SPB Mobile Shell, its a great software that allows you to customize up to 5 screens with widgets, programs and system settings icon. SPB Mobile Shell
Very nice! I can't wait until I can check the Sense mods out! Thank you! I tried SBP Mobile Shell when I had 6.1 and didn't love it. It's a nice program...it just didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll have another look at it though now that I have a little more experience with Winmobile and have switched to 6.5.
For the record...I am not finding a good enough reason to have not made the switch to 6.5 from 6.1 on the Sprint TP2. Still a little buggy here and there but who's to say I didn't do that to myself with some free app that I installed. Hey, that's why I have a backup, right? In fact, I think that if you have any Winmobile and don't have a backup program with a new back up every few days, you might be being foolish. Ultimately, you should make notes attached to each backup to remind yourself at what point your were at in terms of apps and tweaks. Unless of course you are one of these developers and are really smart and can easily get yourself out of a jam without spending hours and hours online searching for solutions and reloading and resetting up you phone...ugh! Anyway...Sprint's 6.5 is prettier and not really worse than 6.1 IMHO. I'd do it again.
A couple of things thing that I am curious about though...After installing 6.5, all of my programs, and getting the settings dialed in, I ran a back up with Resco Backup's latest version. I got dialogue box stating that I had 22 errors (all looked like registry entries) all relating to Twitter. When I performed an "Integrity Check" of the backup, it stated that there are no errors. They don't show up in "Invalid Registry Entries" in SK Tools either. Now I don't care if Titter works or not. I don't use it. It's just strange.
Also, I installed the NoPushInternet and SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource Proxy cabs expecting a performance change like I saw with NoPushInternet alone with 6.1. After installing NoPush with 6.1 I was at 32% with TF3D disabled following a reset. After some heavy use I would see it bloat to around 48%. The numbers were roughly 10% more respectively with TF3D enabled. With 6.5 I am at 41% coming of a reset with Sense disabled and 50% with it enabled. However, I noticed this morning it bloated up to 86%! I can't remember what I went to do and got a dialogue box stating that I didn't have enough memory to perform the task so I looked to see how much Ram I was using. I wonder if some possible culprits are;
The 5 different cities that I get weather data for all needing to sync @ 15 min intervals?
Location services all together?
Being signed in to Facebook by default?
Animated wallpaper?
All of the above?
I find that simply sliding along the icons and pausing at each in Sense makes the memory usage spike to 58% and settle back at 54%. Navigating to and from Settings, going back an forth to email, taking a few calls, and I am up in the mid 60%'s. Maybe this is to be expected and these numbers are considered good...or maybe I just need a more efficient rom. I guess that in keeping with Microsoft's long standing tradition (pre-Win7), the newer OS is heftier than the last! I just hope this thing can keep up with me! Maybe just some Sense mods will do the trick. If I were to install a new rom, can anyone suggest a high quality one that is a good fit for a Sprint user? I don't want to risk loosing any of my Sprint stuff. Sprint TV, Sprint acct info, etc. I am not sure how all of this works with cooked roms and specific carriers. Sorry to be such a noob. I have also considered overclocking the processor. Not sure how risky that is but I do have Sprint's damage replacement coverage. I haven't found instructions for that yet specific to the Sprint TP2 but I do want to play around with that and see what happens. I realize I have asked a lot of questions here. If anyone can take a stab at all or part I will appreciate it. I notice that some (or all?) developers will take a donation (or tip) for help. I am willing to do so in exchange for good help in getting my Sprint TP2 smokin' fast, (more) app filled, and reliable. I may be suffering from a sickness...I can't seem to leave well enough alone! The amount of donation being relative to the amount of help, of course. I did just make my 20 Euro donation to the main effort. I am glad that I did...I certainly have benefited from visiting this forum more than any other forum.
Also, if I am supposed to post a new thread (or threads!) since I have veered off track here, please let me know. I will cut/paste it in a new one(s). I want to behave myself accordingly.

I did the 6.5 update to my Sprint Touch Pro 2 and installed the Tom Codon's WiFi Router and it works perfect. I can't speak to the other aps you are using.
Yea I don't like the stock SPB Mobile, I use espresso mod. You can find most of theSPB Mods here.
I noticed a similar "buggy" experience when switching over to vzw's 6.5 ROM. It worked, but it never seemed as smooth as 6.1. Sprint Auto-Clean/Tweak is a CAB that does just about every tweak to improve performance. Maybe this will help with your RAM %s, but they seem very similar to what I experience (Sense UI ~ 50% idle, 60% after a day of usage, specs below in sig). I'm not really sure what is causing your memory spike, maybe try some of these tweaks and see if it still happens.
Backups are important, but more important is making sure you downloaded something that is compatible with your hardware/software and that you read the thread/readme before installing it. If you do those there should be no need for a backup.
As for a custom ROM, I am not aware of any that include those sprint apps. Check out http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98 for some custom ROMs.
About the overclocking, I believe our processor is an overclocked tp processor, so i'm not sure how much more we can get out of it.
Personally i'd say you are capable enough of doing this all yourself, so be confident and take the necessary steps of reading beforehand.
Thank you burtonsnow8. I appreciate your answers and your confidence in me. I'll continue to mine the forums!
