[Q] Android browser: zoom setting missing for 'fit content width' - General Topics

Hi, my question concerns the standard Android webkit browser and the possibility to control the representation of opened weblinks, that e.g. contain only a jpg photo, something like that:
link text
I liked to have the possibility that the browser is fits the content width by default to the screen width (before allowing further zooming).
The menu for the browser settings does not show that option and I didn't manage to find something else.
Has anyone an idea how to achieve that browser behavior, aligning opened photos to the screen width?
By the way: the Iris Browser version for Windows Mobile is also webkit based and provides the option 'fit content width by default' and does then the expected. Since both are webkit based I would expect that Android browser could do the same.
Remark: since the webpage with these links is on my own server, I could also adapt the html pages, played a bit with settings for Meta viewport tag and with css settings, but without success, any idea also for that?
Br Bernie

Double tapping does the job quite well for me with text, but I don't know how it handles images. Pinch zooming doesnt fit the content to my screen width.
-- LG Optimus One (I seriously need a sig. Editing now xD)

Thx for answering, double tapping may help, but this is not what I want, I like to have the fit to screen just from the start, just when link is opened, without further action. As the old Winmob Iris webkit browser could do... Finally would have to ask the Android developpers...

Feature Requests:
* Please consider an application icon that reflects the comic-centric nature of this reader.
* Right-To-Left Manga reading was chosen as default, should be Left-To-Right, or have a dialog asking the user what he reads most frequently mangas or US comics, and choose accordingly.
* When going to the next page, please move the page to the top corner, right now it moves to the center of the next page. Same for previous page.
* Option to force screen on all the time while reading
* Option to force screen brightness while reading
* Option to show low battery warning while reading
* Pinch-to-zoom - it's just too convenient and expected by users
* Homescreen Widget 2x2/3x3 - the latest opened comic book/page. Shows the latest opened/read page, and in its corner a smaller thumb of that comic book's cover. Also info about the name and the page number, both optional from widget settings.
* Playlist (Reading Order) management.
* Shortcuts - create Playlist or a Folder into a screen shortcut. When clicked, move to the latest opened comic on it's latest read page from that Playlist or Folder.
Do most of these (Playlist may require more effort but is worth it) and slap a 2.99$ price, and I'll buy it immediately.

Thank you for your suggestion.
1.I'm a programmer not art designer. So my art sense is not enough to design a good icon. I'll try to think other design.
2.I make this software is mainly for read Japanese comic(Manga). So I make Right-To-Left as default. Maybe show a dialog to let user choose on first startup is a good idea.
3.Yor may try set page origin to reading direction
Menu -> Browse -> Reading direction
4~7. I'll add these function in future.
8~10. I don't have plan to add these function currently. There is many other function need to add. Maybe I'll consider these when I completed other function.
This app is great, small but powerful, thanks for you work!

XDA is rife with designer talent that is eager to work for quality projects, so maybe you should just look around and ask for art/theme designers to land a hand or provide assets for backgrounds, etc? You will be surprised just how much your app will be improved with proper artwork.
Very nice app, fast and powerful. I have been looking for a simple sequential image viewer like this since I got my Android phone and I've tried quite a few; this is the best I've seen yet.
What I like:
Fast interface
Customizable touch zones allow quick zooming and navigation
Good format support
Can browse into directories that start with a dot
A few improvements I'd like to suggest:
I like the option to select the resampling method, but nearest-neighbor doesn't look very good and the other options perform too slowly on my phone to be practical. Other image viewers (such as the default Gallery) seem to handle image scaling with a better quality/performance tradeoff. Also it seems like there is an off-by-one error when selecting the sampling method, when I select a method I always get the method just above the one I selected.
It would be nice if there was an option for automatically switching screen orientation when the phone is rotated. Also, when I switch orientation the app steps forward to the next page, I think it should stay on the same page.
I don't see a long-press action, that could be another configurable action. It might be useful to display the touch commands on long press in case you forget some of the less-used commands and need a reminder. Or it could be configured to execute some other action.
The app is not too big currently, but it is larger than some other similar apps. For example ACV is under 300KB.
All in all, great app! Thanks for releasing it and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it in the future.

1.You can choose Averaging method it's have normal image quality and fast.
And you found a bug I'll fix it soon.
2.Automatically switching screen orientation will be add in future. You found another bug I'll fix it soon.
3.I don't have plan to add long-press action currently.
4.Because this app is use native c++ library(libpng, libjpeg etc.) to handle image&archive files so will be a little bigger
Can you make the app show thumbnail's of the jpg/png (not the comic book files)? This way, I can finally get rid of the android gallery app. I will gladly donate if this feature can be done.

fantastic app!
lol, i think i've been using this more than any other as of late.
just wish it would render a little faster on anything other than 'averaging' and 'nearest-neighbor' as the quality of the others are much better, but don't think there's much you can do about that.
again, awesome!
Hello,
I apologize in advance because English is not my native language.
I try to use your program in a tablet, SmartQ V7, with these features:
Android 2.1
600MHz ARM11 CPU
Memory 256MB DDR II RAM
Virtual Cache 128MB
The problem is that when you open the comic book closes automatically.
I tried the following:
Close all aplicaiones to free memory, free memory getting about 80 MB,
Turn off cache in settings
I would love to test your application as it is highly recommended.
Thank you very much

Version 1.2 is a great improvement, the new UI is very smooth and has a profesional feel to it.
Still, there's one minor annoyance that's fairly easy to fix and will greatly improve my experience with your comic viewer. I like the slide command where instead changing the page, the screen slides down the page until it reaches the bottom, then changes the page. What I find annoying however is that the distance the screen slides is not configurable. It would be great if we can change the screen slide distance. The slide distance can be a value that chan be changed with a slider, or presets based on fractions of the page height, i.e. 1/5, 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2.
Thanks a lot.
I have Android as the operating system in my tablet (10" Eken M006). Before knowing Perfect Viewer, I would prefer my images in PDF, despite some problems, but now I have changed my mind. Your application has some interesting qualities (that Documents-To-Go lacks when opening PDF files):
1. It fits the image no matter the size of the previous one.
2. It remembers last viewed page.
3. The page does not rotate automatically, what is a bless. I suffer a lot when the page rotates by itself. It would be great if you added a "page rotating" function.
Page orientation is not the problem. I read many Western reading books, and pressing the screen on the left or the right side is indifferent.
The application will be even better if it could open other image formats, like GIF and BMP. If you could include PDF files, it would end up simply perfect.
Thanks a lot for the great job.

LectureNotes app

I'm curious about peoples' opinions of the app "LectureNotes" by Acadoid Developer and how it stacks up against the other main players in the active digitizer game. I've only been using my TPT for a few days' worth of note taking and haven't settled on a specific app yet, so I would like to hear thoughts on how you chose your primary note taking app.
i use ezpdf reader usually and just annotate my notes onto the pdf lecture slides.
if i need free form writing, i use free-note as it has keyboard + pen input
or quill if i just need pen input.
personally i haven't tried lecture notes, but it seems like MyScript Notes Mobile preloaded with the TPT
Wow, pretty good app. I didn't know about it. Thanks!
I've been using TPT for about 2 weeks now, and like the OP, I haven't really quite settled on a specific handwriting app..
Key uses for me are:
- taking notes during meetings
- something to help me in my Japanese language study
- some silly doodling/sketching fun
Some apps I've tried:
- Notesmobile
- Antipaper
- Writepad stylus
- Lecture notes
- Asus' supernotes
- Freenote
- Quill
For lecture notes specifically, I like that I can choose checkered pattern for the background and set the pattern size, as that is perfect for writing in Japanese.
But I found that it lags quite a bit when writing, and there isn't an easy way for me to scroll between pages.
So I haven't really been using it much in the past week.
For the moment, I've sort of settled with using a mix of Writepad, Supernote and Antipaper. Sadly, neither Supernote nor Antipaper has stylus only option
Still waiting for the one app that can do it all!
Might never come, but I can always hope, can't I?
I use Lecture Notes and have more or less canned every other note software. Lecture Notes just has way more features that I need. It can export in many ways. It can backup all my notes to dropbox, great support for inserting images and easy to change color, pen thickness etc.
Only think missing is better organization of the notebooks themselves. When that's here, it will be perfect.
It's also by far the most stable of Quill, Notes mobil and asus supernotes.
Personally, I have tried a lot of handwriting notes apps until I cam to this one. At that time this one worked the best overall in my opinion. When I first started using it didn't have everything it has now. But it was already robust and never crashed. I had one issue after a full system crash and reboot that wiped out the content of one notebook. But I simply loaded my backup from the day before without issue and kept rolling.
I have about 15 different notebooks on there now and I use them daily for work notes as I am walk around the office working on equipment or meeting notes.
It doesn't have the handwriting recognition features you find in other apps but I think that is what keyboard are for and I wouldn't write a document up that way anyway.
My good things list.
First, The developer is always adding things per user requests. Options for everything you can think of.
Second, it is being developed directly on the TPT and it seems to be one of the only ones able to be truly palm rejection friendly by only allowing the app to pull input from the pen (Option can be disabled for those that don't have a pen).
Third, and again the endless options... every type of custom settings, scrolling options (one finger, two finger, scroll bars and bar thickness), export options, backup options, sharing options, zoom options, page size - color - patterns, simple drawing tools, cut paste - copy paste, and on and on... every time I turn on the tablet it seems there is anther update to this app.
The dev listens to the feedback and finds ways of making the ideas work. I have submitted several ideas that have become reality.
It isn't free... but I would buy it a second and third time if I could just to support the dev team.
I see a brighter and brighter future of this app.
Hi folks,
I am the author of LectureNotes, I was glad to read that the app is useful for you. Sorry for joining this forum and this thread so late, but I learned only very recently that there are couple of forum threads related to LectureNotes.
Note that I uploaded v1.12.2 today with a couple of minor additions, the most important one probably being the possibility to choose the directory where the app stores your notebooks.
Best regards,
Markus

I am using the trial version, but i am already convinced of buying the full version. I have a suggestion to make :
The software really needs a laso eraser it will make it more feature-full
Dear trt44,
LectureNotes has a `lasso´ eraser, moving the eraser in a closed path so that start and end point are close deletes the interior.
Best regards,
Markus
Perfect, i just tried the laso eraser and it works like a charm, so i bought the software .
I have another suggestion : The software lacks the ability to draw basic shapes (rectangles, circles, lines...), and from my humble point of view, basic shapes are very important for fast and accurate drawing when taking notes.
Many thanks for purchasing the app.
The app contains simple drawing primitives, they are part of the pencil toolbox (as long as you do not disable this in the settings). Choose `Show pencil toolbox´ in the pencil menu to get the toolbox displayed, click-and-hold to move it around. A single click on one of the standard or custom pencils chooses the pencil and a double-click on one of the custom pencils opens the `Custom pencil settings´ dialog; a click on one of the drawing tools activates the drawing tool, another click inactivates it.
OK, thank you, i will try it once i get home.

OK, so far this is the best note taking application for android platform, it works exactly the way it should. But the UI is a bit ugly frankly you should work it more. A software like yours deserve a sexy fantastic UI :
- Attractive icons cause the actual ones looks dead to me, note Books icons for example looks horrible
- The ability to go forward and back in pages using forward and back buttons (more convenient sometimes instead of just scrolling or doing a notebook overview and select the page from there)
- Notebook overview should have an icon in the top tools bar for easy access
One last thing, when you use palm heuristic there is no way to zoom but using the zoom function in the menu witch have a fixed zoom ratio, i suggest to add a zoom slider in the top tools bar where you can specify how much you want to zoom when using (or not) palm heuristic.
Thank you for the fantastic software and keep the good work on .
Many thanks for your kind comments. I certainly agree that the icons can be improved, but I am not an artist and I do my best.
The app allows to go forward and backward page-wise by using `One page forward` or `One page backward´ in the hand menu; alternatively, to move quickly through your notebook without changing mode or switching to notebook overview, switch on `Permanently display scroll bars´ in the settings and drag on the scroll bars (the bar thickness can be increased in the settings).
`Notebook overview´ is just two clicks away in all modes (one click on main menu and one click on the item), I do not think that it is worthwhile to add an extra icon.
When using the heuristic palm rejection, one or two fingers gestures for scrolling and zooming are restricted to the hand mode, but being in this mode you can scroll and zoom continuously. Besides that, there is a zoom slider at the left side, you can change zoom by dragging it (the bar thickness can also be increased in the settings).
Just wanted to say hello to you Markus and thank you for your amazing app.
I am loving your app more and more. I appreciate your email correspondence about features I asked about. It truly puts you and your application above the rest.
Cheers.
I just uploaded v1.13 into Google Play. The major new feature is to allow folders of notebooks (and folders of folders of notebooks, etc.), but I also added LectureNotes as an image receiver (so that the app shows up when you share an image) and fixed a bug that could cause the app to crash when using a template for a new notebook.
To allow folders affects all parts of the app (notebooks board, notebook content view, notebook overview, notebook index, notebooks board index, ...). I carefully double- and triple-checked all features and things should work as before. Please drop an email to me in case you noticed something unexpected and I will do my very best to fix it quickly.
Best regards,
Markus
Sweet, I requested this feature cause of large number of notes
Works good, but maybe change the icon of folders so they stand out more from the regular.

This is a wonderful feature Markus that I didn't realize I needed until just recently. Love it I like the idea of changing the icon on the folders so they stand out more. I also love the new storage location setting, it eases my mind to know it is on my external_sd.
Also, I dunno if I am just being dense, but I cannot seem to figure out the navigation menu when enabled in settings. Within settings, under Settings > Menu > Enable app's launcher icon menu and it says it provides a navigation menu at the app's launcher icon. I've always assumed this was an extra navigation menu in the top left corner, but cannot seem to ever be able to use it.
Any thoughts?
I am glad to hear that you like the new feature.
In case you switch on the menu at the app's launcher icon, you should see a menu when clicking on the icon in the left upper corner (in difference to the case when this option is off, then you get a message that there is no functionality assigned, with the exception of notebook content view where the changed pages are flushed to the file system). What happens in your case? Does the icon highlight when you click on it?

In case you switch on the menu at the app's launcher icon, you should see a menu when clicking on the icon in the left upper corner (in difference to the case when this option is off, then you get a message that there is no functionality assigned, with the exception of notebook content view where the changed pages are flushed to the file system). What happens in your case? Does the icon highlight when you click on it?

It doesn't seem to do anything when I click on it, with either my finger or with the pen. And it doesn't seem to matter if I have it enabled or not. Neither scenario causes the icon to do anything. It doesn't highlight or say/do anything. It also does not matter what screen I am at, the icon never does anything. Whether I am within a notebook, folder or at the notebooks board screen. Odd.
Would this have anything to do with that I am running ICS?

[Q] Gingerbread browser anyone?

Just switched from android 2.3 to 4.0
On 2.2 the Internet browser used to auto-wrap text on zoom - so like for this forum i could pinch to zoom and any text would automatically zoom and wrap to screen size (to avoid panning)
Also noticed it would only scroll EITHER up/down OR left/right whcih made it really easy to scroll down a column of text without it wandering all over
On 4.0 it has 2 default browsers (incl Google Chrome) and neither behave like this - I have to either set font size in settings or double-click to zoom the browser but neither will wrap the text so it can be read easily - crap actually
Dunno whether auto-zoom-text-wrapping (Black berry used to call it "columning" text) is an attribute of the OS or browser
So in the first instance I'm just looking for the 2.3 gingerbread browser - so if anyone can give me the name of the browser I'll try and install it thanks

It wouldn't work with ICS most likely anyway. I'd look for a browser on the market with that feature.

The feature about which you are talking about is already there in Opera Mini for Android.

Actually isn't - but did discover sometime later that it is in Opera Mobile (not Mini)

[APP][2.1+] Frost Private Web Browser & Bookmark and Image Hider

Frost is a tabbed private browser with hidden, password protected image and bookmark vaults as well as extensive privacy features. Frost looks and functions like any other browser until you enter your password in the browser address bar. It also comes with the ability to immediately exit, clear your history, and hide whatever you were doing when you press the home or power button on your device.
Download Now: Frost Browser on Google Play
Key Features:
Incognito browsing
Full tab support
Clean simple design
Store images and bookmarks in hidden password protected vaults
Instantly clear and hide what you were doing by pressing the home or power button on your device
Built in video and image viewer
Import and export images to or from your image vault
I've been supporting and releasing updates for Frost for almost 3 years now and just recently finished a complete redesign for Android 4.0.3+. During that time I've partnered with DuckDuckGo to provide a truly private search provider for the users of our app (see this list for Android Browsers officially endorsed by them)
Frost has two versions, a free ad supported version, and a "full" version that has no ads and some extra features like being able to set your own homepage. Other than that they are functionally identical.
I'd be happy, if you'd give it a try and I would love to hear your comments on what could be improved about Frost.
Thank you!
Not working on my note 3 (n9005 with kitkat NC2 stock deodexed rom)
The initial setup worked fine, the ad at the top refreshes and changes, but the menu button and all touch input inside the app does not work. Besides the status bar obviously. The back button works to exit though. Tried to capture a screenshot to show. 'Drm content is protected' or something like that. So i thought id write it down and try to explain why it doesnt work instead.
Very good idea. But the silly placement of the ad will make me not use this even when this is fixed. Let me know if i can help though, as i do see potential in this. As long as i can actually use it, and the ad is moved off the main screen. I dont know where else to suggest you put it, as i cannot use the app to look around currently.

Interesting, I'll try to get a hold of a Note 3 a see if I can reproduce, it's the first I've ever heard of such an issue.
Just an update, currently working on adding GIF support to the image vaults, so far it's working pretty well, even being able to handle 100MB+ gifs! Should be available in the next update.

This browser is still unknown. There are some shortcomings, but if necessary, it is reflected after the review.
I am a browser developer and I hope many of you will use this browser.

I've rated this 4/5 on Android Playstore. I've been looking for a Kiwi Browser replacement. Please look into the open source addon extension made available from Kiwi and implement. Bottom bar navigation would be awesome as well. Keep up the great work, will rate 5/5 once those two suggestions are implemented.
I've got one question and couple of suggestions.
Where do the "Saved Pages" go ? These aren't even accessible from archive in the main menu.
Replace the "Archive" with a proper Download Manager tool.
Replace "Text Editor" tool with an image editor tool that includes marker, eraser & text insertion, like that one in Google Photos or you can check Pure Browser's screenshot editor tool. :good:
