[Q] Wrong Providername on Nexus S??? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
my proivider in Austria is Orange but its shows the old providername One
that changed about 2 years ago and i got a net Orange simcard
on my HTC Desire it shows Orange (stock rom and oxygen 1.x and 2.0 RCX Rom)
where is this problem from?
anything works fine but the name .. i dont know
Nexus S with MaDaCo R8 rom
same problem was with the stock rom and the rootes stock rom
when i choose the language on the nexus i can only choos "German" (Deutsch) and not "German Austria" "Deutsch (Österreich)" like it is on the HTC Desire (All roms i use on the desire)
Why is that???
thanks

Hey,
i have the same issue, a new sim-card which shows Orange on my Blackberry and on HTC desire but not on Nexus S. Tried to find it out with the service-team of Orange but without success.

That's a known issue, it shows 302490 instead of my carrier, WIND Mobile.

and where is the problem from????

Please read this thread for a bit more detail; we've already discussed this here. A little search is a good thing.
A more direct answer to your question, though:
The problem is a combination of things. Your cellular provider is sending out a code number to the phones instead of the carrier's name, so they're the root of the problem.
There's also a file on Androids that lists some providers and translates that to the name if a number code is being sent out. The NS wasn't intended for sale in Canada, so it looks like the translation code for your towers wasn't included in the table.
AllGamer tried to hack it in, but there's not enough room in the file (details in the thread I linked).

To flash or not to flash...

Hi All,
Before I get flamed - I have searched for some pointers!
Just taken delivery of a Vodafone V1615, having had a Hermes for a year and wondered how the ROMs I've seen on here compare to the stock operator ROM. I was happy to flash like a london pervert on the Hermes, but am slightly reluctant to frig this one too much if there is no discernable benefit.
Seen DuttyThroys comments on how difficult it is to cook ROMS so would welcome some solid guidance.
TIA
Paul
Hi Paul,
I pondered the same - for about 6 hours
I decided to give it a shot, dumped the shipped ROM and rebuilt it as a backup in case it ever has to go back, and flashed to the HTC ROM. IMHO, the HTC ROM is more responsive than the one Orange ship, and I'm happy that its "How it was intended" when HTC designed the device. The UI is definitely nicer, and more in keeping with the colour scheme!
I decided not to flash the radio stack, just the OS, as I am hoping Orange customised the radio for best performance on their network, however if I start getting call dropouts or poor 3G performance, I will be flashing to the stock radio too.
If you feel happy about backing up the existing ROM so that you can go back to it, I say go for it
Almost forgot to mention...
If Voda are like Orange, your 1615 will be network locked. There are known issues with HTC stock ROM (I believe it to be only if you flash the radio stack, but don't quote me), whereby if the network lock is in place, you loose Phone functionality until its unlocked.
I suggest if you do go down this route and decide to flash, that you try another SIM beforehand so you can determine if it is network locked, and if so, pay Tupisdin a visit over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314547 for the relevant
My UK v1615 wasn't SIM locked but that may have been luck of course... It's on a business account and Voda told me that it would be locked before it was sent (they sent four but I've only checked the one I had...) and they seemed surprised when I said my Orange card worked fine...

o2 homezone

hi guys, since i switched my rom on raphael to a non branded i do not see my homezone indicator.
altough there is no rational need to see it, because of flatrate, i would like to see it.

Hi apokryphus,
I had the same problem with my Xda mini S - o2 usually stores the additional .CAB-files for the homezone indicator on the ROM, so before flashin to a new ROM you can (and should) just copy them and store them on a storage card. On Wizard, I needed two files, one was for the channel and one was the Homezone indicator tool. You can also call the o2 hotline for free and they will most probably send you the files per eMail. In fact, the German o2 hotline is (or was at least) one of the best hotlines I ever called. Just ask them.
Cheers,
Eriol
I'm not sure it's the best idea to call them and tell them that you have flashed a custom ROM on your device..

Would YOU do this? REALLY? Even if there is no need to do so??? One might think a while ... and figure out that it might also be possible that you own an unbranded HTC device without the Homezone software. This might work ;-)
Easiest way is to save the needed .CAB files from the original ROM and store them on a storage card.

[Q] to XT720 Korean version holders

I am the (unfortunate ?) owner of a Korean Motorola XT720 "Motoroi". And I have to say I am very unsatisfied with the general experience this phone provides.
The ROM is slow, and really chaotic. It's very hard to get your stuff done with this phone, as it randomly crashes or FC important applications. The general feeling the phone gives is of slowness, and is not very convenient to use.
What is strange is that on paper, the phone specs are really nice and I would really appreciate to use it under a faster system.
First, I would like to ask XT720 owners : Is it the same experience for you ?
This is what I tried (thanks to this website) : Rooting the phone + Milestone overclock. The phone is slighty faster at 800 Mhz, but still lags awfully. Putting 1Ghz makes the phone very unstable and heats a lot.
Is changing to Singapore ROM will help ? Can I use Singapore ROM with Korean carrier (SK Telecom) ?
I regret having bought this phone. Unless Motorola fixes this with a nice, well done, fit for the phone, Froyo release, I will never buy any Motorola product.
I am also a korean motoroi owner. At some points i agree with you. The phone is slow. Some tricks don't work that works on other xt720 model. But on the other side, if you know how to tweak, your phone's gonna be fast ( not that really fast). I oc my motoroi up to 1ghz without problems. Sometimes up to 1.2. Btw i understand your situation, i'll post some links of what tweaks i use on my phone.
Btw my friend has glaxy s. And my comment is. Galaxy s faster a very little.
Sent from my XT720 using Tapatalk
Here is one of tricks i apply my friend. If you are not in korea you can flash with europe firmware, that changes the cpu to 750mhz by default. But if you are using your phone and you are in korea. You gonna lose the service. Anyway i hope it helps you. I spend a lot of times digging some forums for this phone. I guess that's the best start.

Anyway. To all korean motoroi holders. Please post what you've researxh here. It would be a big help. Have a nice day...

I own a Korean Motoroi, and I think it's pretty much ok. I have some issues:
1) Default home is slow.
2) Browser doesn't automatically wrap text to fit zoom.
3) Only 256 MB.
I'm using Launcher Pro, so #1 is not a problem anymore. I'm currently on a EU ROM, where #2 is working as expected, but the light and acceleration sensors don't seem to work. Not much I can do about #3, but I *think* I have a little more free memory on the EU ROM.
If you haven't upgraded your Korean Motoroi to 41R without SKAF, I suggest doing it ASAP. I did experience some crashes on the original ROM, but nothing on 41R.

Very sorry to bother you, but :
1/ when you upgrade to another ROM, do you lose your service with SK Telecom ?
2/I am pretty much newbie in the phones world. What is 41R without SKAF ?
thanks a lot for your reply.
1. I mean when i install differrent rom execpt for korean sbf. There is no service. Maybe SK telecom blocked it.
2. I dont know about 41r. Im using 39r.

My big advice is you should update to 2.1. Maybe you still using the 2.0.1 version.

No bother
1: Yes, I lost SKT service. I think SKT is blocking somehow, because the radio still seemed to be working and I could see both KT and SKT networks. I moved out of Korea a couple of weeks ago though, so I don't have any service at all right now. I've read that someone successfully unlocked a Korean XT720, but I haven't tried it myself yet:
http://www.chinalife.kr/blog/?p=364
2: SKAF is SK Application Framework, also known as "all the crap SKT put on the phone". After a lot of outrage from users, SKT now provides a way to flash a ROM without SKAF. It hasn't been pushed OTA though, so you have to manually update. To update to 41R, you can download the sbf from here, if you trust it:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7N9U46XJ
Alternatively, you can upgrade using the Korean Motorola website:
http://www.mymotorola.co.kr/product/PrdRsdMain.aspx
If you don't read Korean, I'd go with just flashing the sbf, the whole procedure is in Korean. You have to pick between SKAF and non-SKAF versions. There is talk on Korean message boards that there will be a 44R soon, which will not be the 2.2 upgrade, but I haven't really followed the boards lately.
The 44R is out, and sets the processor to 600mhz by default and supports wifi n, and crashes less. For Korean users like me you can do the upgrade through the page svenhenrik mentioned in his post.
EDIT : This is the last update before Froyo release next month.
Hello!!! I also have the Korean xt720. I just rooted it yesterday and also overclocked it. I have notice a very big difference between when it was stock and now. As I was read through the post I had a few questions.
1. Is the 44R out on the Motorola web site? Because I downloaded the 41R from the link svenhenrik posted.
Could you please tell me how to go about flashing the 41R or the 44R without SKAF.
2. Are there custom rom that works with the Korean xt720?
3. What are some good themes to use with the xt720?
My phone is currently has Universal androot. V1.6.2 beta 5
Milestone overclock: Overclocked to 1GHz @56vsel
Setcpu: Set to 1 GHz and 250 MHz range.
Titanium Backup.
Since I have only had the phone rooted and at with these setting for a day, I can't how well it’s working out right now.

1. Dunno
2. As I saw so far there's no custom ROM for XT720
3. You can download another Laucher and their themes on MARKET
I've been used 1GHz @56vsel for quite sometimes (2 weeks), nothing happened so far so I think it's good to run at that speed
Anyone ever has this problem? No INCOMING / OUTGOING Calls & SMS.
Everything else work fine, except the PHONE Function itself.
Inserted the SKT Sim and the phone manage to detect the CELL# and OBTAIN SKT Network signal. However when attempted to DIAL, NO RINGTONE and SIGNAL just drop out unexpectedly and CALL FAILED.

Not sure about this. I know when I took the phone to Thailand I got signal but couldn't use it because of the type of contract I have.
I was looking at App2SD and was woundering if using this will free up my internal memory. Right now I am close to using it all up. If I use this will the app run form the sd so that i can download more apps? Any info will be great. Thanks!!

The page is in Korean and the translation by google is pretty much confused. Have you tried this method for yourself? or, can you please, or anyone here explain in english what i have to do to unlock my sk telecom xt720 and make it work with any carrier?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it has to do with the type of contract because i'm using SKT SIM and I'm covered by the Network in the area (s. korea). However, i did recently discovered that if the 3G signal is available, then i can make INCOMING/OUTGOING CALLs and SMS. Without the 3G signal then the problem persist. Don't know why even though the phone was able to pick up the regular SKT network service.

From what I understood and read on that page is, that the unlock code for the Motoroi is 16 digits not 8. The web page doesn't tell you anything on how to unlock but going to the pay sites for unlock codes. The author wanted to let people know about the 16 digit unlock code.
NinjaX96, thanks, will try to purchase this code since there are no other ways available.
Greediest, Your welcome and let me know if you have any luck with unlocking your phone. I would also like to unlock the phone once I leave Korea.
Is there anybody met problem with sending sms by korean xt720? I can't send sms but can recieve. And i can't apply USSD commands because dialer put "-" into command. Can you help me resolve that problems?

Recently purchased the Sensation, no US English :(

So I recently purchased an HTC Sensation online from Welectronics. So after getting the phone and trying to set it up, I noticed that it does not come with US English or even UK English in the Locale, it comes with English from Asian countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia etc.
I can live with it, as long as it's still English, but I would prefer to use US English or even Canadian English if possible. Is there any market apps I can use to get other locales installed onto my phone?
Furthermore, because I am in Canada and am using Wind Mobile, the notification bar does not display my "Wind Home", it only displays the operator network code. Again, any way I can change that?
Despite all this, I do hope HTC releases the S-Off ASAP so I can flash other roms onto it! Cheers
Bump. Same here, purchased from expansys.
Try this app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale&feature=search_result
haven't tried it on the Sensation, but it worked on my Desire HD.
Yup, tried that app and it's alright, at least I have standard English language now
hey mixmaven, did you purchase from expansys-usa. i haven't gotten it yet but want to know because i ordered one from them and they told me it was a US version with no bloatware, so i assume it would have US english on it.
hey chris, yes to expansys usa - and the more I used the phone the more I found that everything appeared to be correct, it just didn't have the English US option when I booted which was annoying. Selecting another english language triggers a few strange input screens. I see no major bloatware, looks like a clean version of sense. Has sound hound and a few other common apps.

mixmaven did you try the app that kuba1410 say to use and did it work. also how are you liking the phone. thanks for the reply.
not yet, I wanted to pull down a sense 3.0 rom and pull out the en us file. Haven't had time. I wonder if the dictonary contains more words if you are using the correct language.
Differentiation, assuming it work perfectly on your sensation did it change everything to US english without problems?
Anyone willing to provide a system dump off a US edition phone with no bloatware?
Locale2 did not fix the keyboard settings screen (Thai Keyboard is shown) and Vietnameses IME. However the keyboards are in english and work correctly so far.
Not sure where the files are saved in a US rom. I was hoping I could push them to the rom and then run setup again. S=On is killing me.

I just chose Canadian English, so far it seems to be alright, haven't really had too much problems.
Is there anything you would specifically want me to look at?
Differentiation just want to know that when i get mine that i can set things to US english using the app and work fine. is there any areas that are not working like google maps, weather..etc. thanks for the info.
thanks mixmaven for trying the app. Differentiation said he used canadian engliah and seems to work with little problem. dont know if you seen his post. you may want to try it and see what happens.
There is a thread in the development forum for the sensation that includes links to the official RUU roms for various regions of the world. I'm wondering if you would be able to flash one of these official roms to your phones. I think you should be able to flash a rom for an unbranded phone since I'm assuming your phones are unbranded. You might want to try it.
I don't have Canadian English only Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Philippines.
Time to look at the other ROM's

Yes my phone is unbranded.
As soon as S-Off becomes official, I think I will flash a North American rom onto my phone.

I don't know if the radios are compatible. North American Sensations are the T-mobile branded one, with 1700,2100,1900MHz 3G bands, and the one that went thru the FCC with 850/1900MHz bands for an unknown carrier. As far as the Vodafone/unbranded European/Asian phones, their 3G frequencies are listed as 900/AWS/2100MHz. I would make sure it won't brick your phone before trying to flash a "North American" rom onto your Sensation.
In the mean time, you might try one of the unbranded European roms and chose UK English.
Oh you are right! I have the 3G version, not the 4G.
I tried 3 different HTC Roms, all 3 ended with the 131 error of invalid ID.

[Q] HTC Desire S - Orange ROM Install

Thanks to Orange UK being unhelpful regarding a contract upgrade (sim only to pay monthly is apparently impossible) and then providing incorrect advice to a friend of mine, she now has the following problem with her HTC Desire S S510e.
She desperately needs to be able to use the Orange Signal Boost (UMA) app and was told that although Orange were unable to sell her an HTC Desire S she could buy one herself (unbranded / unlocked) and then this would allow her to receive and make phone calls on her Orange account via UMA. Too late she has discovered that this is nonsense - the HTC firmware / software that comes with the non-Orange phone does not include the Kineto Smart Wi-Fi (Orange Signal Boost) app.
Both HTC and Orange are unwilling to help.
So here are the questions:
1. Is it possible for her to replace the factory HTC firmware / software with the Orange version? She is not concerned if this means her phone will then be locked to Orange as it was never her intention to change networks.
2. Is there any risk that trying to do this will break the phone?
3. After the change (if this is indeed possible) will the phone then function exactly as if it had come from Orange UK (eg: update automatically etc)?
If this oddly in-reverse process is possible could someone please provide me with an idiot-proof guide (I do not have phone developer experience) or links to all the steps to follow and also where to find any required software or files.
I have already downloaded the file RUU_Saga_Orange_UK_1.31.61.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M_release_178918_signed
but am unsure if this is the most recent version available and if so how to install it.
Thanks
Problem Solved
Solution:
1. Install HTC Sync. No need to run the app but the drivers are required for the RUU step later.
2. Make a Gold Card. Visit this site to find-out how:
>addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd<
I used the SD card that came with the phone.
3. Download an appropriate RUU.
4. Turn the phone off and connect to the PC via USB.
5. Open the RUU file and follow the instructions.
The result should be a phone with the required RUU (in my case Orange UK) that will function / update as normal.
NB: If you are branding an unbranded HTC as an Orange (or other) HTC then you do not need to get involved in rooting / unrooting. Clearly you would only wish to brand for a very specific reason (such as to gain access to the Orange UK Signal Boost / UMA feature).
Good Luck
Hi all,
I am looking to do this on my Desire S, as I have problems getting signal on my generic phone.
If I was to put the Orange ROM onto my phone so I can use orange signal boosting, will I be able to go back to stock easily enough if needed.
I have recently updated OTA to
Android Version - 2.3.5
Software number - 2.10.401.4
Is the Orange ROM this version?
Thanks in advance,
Have you now sorted this?
I have done virtually the same and it works perfectly - let me know if you need the file.

I've had a similar problem, any chance I could get hold of the RUU? I can't find it anywhere after hours of Googling.
I've been searching and searching on how to solve the same problem - could anyone give me a hint on finding a valid download link for the Orange HTC Desire S RUU that nch45167 infers does exist. I can't find it from googling.
The reason I want to get back to the provider stock ROM is to get the Signal Boost feature on Orange. I've seen links to apps people have extracted of Signal Boost to use on rooted devices, but I really don't want to do that. Looks far too tricky, and not a very good success rate from reading the comments.

I've got (just upgraded from it) a Desire S. This feature was discussed extensively on the HTC DS forums at one time. It also took me less than 60 seconds on Google to find this page.
Thank you SimonTS. My googling skills must be off form. I feel embarrassed - you're quite right - exactly what I'm looking for is indeed out there. Thanks again.
