Freescale IMX515 Cortex A8 Tablets - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Fairly recently, it seems that some of the better-performing aPads coming from China are running on Freescale IMX515 Cortex-A8 processors (ARMv7 variant), with the 8" and 9.7" variants being the most widespread.
There have been some issues on screen shake and sd cards but, this is, all in all a powerful tablet with lots of potential. I'm hoping that this thread attracts some development to go further.

Since the Frescale Source code is easily available I would think there would be more activity here.

I have a mac. How do I install a firmware without recovery mode? I don't have recovery mode, doesn't exist on my unit

[Q] Allwinner a10 vs cortex a9

Hello everyone
I want to buy a budget tablet and of so much research i have found two tablets in my budget
1. Ainol novo 7 tornados
2. Ainol novo 7 advanced 2
The screen size, processor and most of the hardware are same and both run ics. The only difference is that Advanced 2 has a allwinner a10 processor and tornados has amlogic. The allwinner is based on cortex a8 while the amlogic is based on cortex a9. The following site compares them but i am confused that if a8 is better than what is the use of a9. Isnt the cortex a9 successor of cortex a8
Actually i cant post link because of restriction so do a google search for allwinner vs amlogic and click the link of "slate 4 sure blog"
Please recommend me that which one should i buy and is the comparison true.(i.e A8>A9)

Hey...check this website out. i don't know why XDA developers haven't dug into everything Ainol since they're cheap and powerhouses. i would suggest you ask there but in my experience the a9 is a successor and it's much faster. here's the lnk http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/341-ainol-amlogic-cpu-devices/ and there you have all the devices. unfortunately the Advanced 2 is in the upper thread since it's a bit older! I got my Tornados for only 71 USD off of ebay and it regularly ranges to 100 USD...so if you gotta spend the extra couple of bucks for newer software ..then why not...if i helped press the Gracias ( thank you) button
if I could relight this one briefly so I don't create a new thread: can one of you more knowledgeable guys explain to me: for a single core Cortex-A9 implementation like an AW or the AGPtek / WM8850 unit, does it matter much how generous internal memory is? 512mb sounds like enough for such simple design but I do not yet understand how the memory controller manages memory especially to feed the graphics processing unit. for the little cost, i'm prone to want to go "more is better" route: 1GB of internal...

Are both tablets with the same AP? If not then more may not necessarily be better. Let me explain - if one of them has a dual channel memory controller, pick that even if it has lower memory. The reason is that in case of dual channel memory controller the arbitration overhead is lower so memory fetch latency is lower for all components.
If they both have a single channel memory controller, pick the one with the 1GB RAM. Hopefully answers your questions.
As far as how the memory feeds the GPU - usually it is the other way round. It is the GPU that fetches the data from memory. The implementation is very different from GPU to GPU and therefore from AP to AP.
Allwinner has bigger community and 1GB is better!

Allwinner A31 Quad Core Chip Introduction

Recent days,a number of Chinese tablets brand out their quad core tablet. The chip,Allwinner A31,catches a lot of attention.Maybe there is something about A31 you can learn from here.
A31 quad core chip, planned to be used in tablets, smartphones and smart TV field, is presented by Zhuhai Allwinner Technology Corporation in 2012 December.
A31 based on quad core Cortex-A7 CPU architecture and Power VR SGX544MP2 GPU.The GPU has 8 cores and supports 4K and 2K video stream output and encode at the same time.Additionally,A31 configurates dual channel DDR which maximumly supports 64bit DDR3 and dual channel NAND Flash,16bit NAND Flast at most, dramatically improve read-write speed of system memory. What's more,A31 has optimised Power consumption management system, allwinner technology customizes a PMU chip AXP221 for A31,with the help of the AXP221 chip,A31 can efficiently control dynamic power;A31 also packs another special chip for superlow power control,so A31 can achieve long time standby.
The chip doesn't support bluetooth, which probably make some people away from it.

yep, pretty intresting chip there - if the allwinner a10 revolutioned chinese low cost smartphone-tablet market for how cheap it was (it basically created something akin to a market dump in china, with all phone makers jumping ship to allwinner and denying any prehesistent contracts) while being a pos on any other aspect, this one is actually good and fast.
shame tho for the missing bluethooth and gps support, it can be added with external chips but not being integrated in soc meant that really few makers will add them for costs reason.

I think some guys who want buy the device with A31 just for the low price.

[Q] Tagital Tablet

I bought this tablet and it has turned out to be very very slow. Im not sure if its just the tablet of the rom. so I was thinking of looking for a custom rom, but I can't seem to find any. Here are the specs. Is this just a slow processor and a waste of my cash?
Where can I look or find the way to Root this tablet. I downloaded the app to check it and it says its not rooted. I like the rom, very bare, no bloatware.
Tagital MID Tablet
CPU: Boxchip A13 Cortex A8 1.0GHz ,GPU: Mali 400
OS: Google Android 4.2, RAM: 512MB DDR3
Internal storage capacity: 4GB, External storage 32GB

Hi
Not sure if its rootable due to hardware constraints of hardware
Asked vender about hardware mentioned 400x800.
The slowness and key responses isn't a good sign.
When I try and store this text it boots the screen my guess
Very limited processor. ordered a refurbed tab3 better resolution
And processor.
I don't think a ROM can run on this tablet!
Sorry to say beings I bought a TX-9 .
This is the worst item I have ever used. Its like a very early Texas calculator
But slower response.
Another third world clone gone bad!!! Doug

Taiya T13 F721 mainboard?

I'm cleaning out some old stuff and found a super generic tablet.
it's branded Taiya T13
inside is a Topwise F721_mainboard_v2.0.0 with a Allwinner Tech A13 CPU.
it's on android 4.0.4, and app I try to open will stop working.
I cannot find any information about it.
Anyone have a more useful firmware I can flash, or recommendations on what to do with it?
Put tablet into electric waste: it's not ready to run modern Android apps.
The AllWinner A13 is a cheap SoC for smartphones and tablets of 2012. Compared to the Allwinner A10, the A13 is a cost reduced version without HDMI or SATA support. It contains a single 1.0 GHz ARM Cortex A8 core (ARMv7), a ARM Mali 400 (single core) graphics card and a video processing unit. It is produced in 55nm.
seems a bit wasteful, but it is what it is.
electronic waste it is.
