nice games to entertain your baby or toddler - Android Apps and Games

Hi, let's create a list of good apps for babies and toddlers. I know I know it is not a good idea to trust your precious android phone to these curious creatures, but every parent want to have some quite time or a handy tool to keep your baby busy for a few minutes while you are shopping or standing in line.
Here is our favorite apps. Do not expect hours of gameplay from them, you can only keep your baby interested for 4-7 minutes each time, but sometimes that's all the time you need
Learn Animal Sounds Free - super nice and bright pictures of animals, great sounds they make and I love the voice of the girl saying animal names (Free)
Toddler Lock - very simple app to draw on screen that locks your phone keys (Free)
Happy Baby Faces - for some reason, many babies love to see pictures especially with babies on the. this app also locks your phone keys. $0.99 but give it a shot
Talking Tom Free - our boy loves when Tom talks back to him, no lock mode though so it is not baby friendly per say

I don't have any apps to contribute to the list, but it just occurred to me that if someone could make a small, inexpensive android tablet, maybe a little bit bigger than a iPod touch, I would love to buy them for my 8-year-old twins. Just something that could connect to WIFI and let them play some games would be cool.
-- and they could stay the hell away from my Desire Z
My daughter is bugging my about iPod touch -- but I really don't want to get her something that expensive that I can't even change the battery on it.

I have pandigital novel which I got for $120 but our kid loves my phone more I bet even if there is such thing as "kid's tablet" they still will want _your_ phone

Toddler safe Video App
I'd love to see an app like toddler lock but which plays media and locks down the keys. My 2 year old loves watching his ripped Mr Tumble DVD on my phone but the inevitable fingers on the screen and trackball pause or stop the video!

great idea! I'll tell my friend who developed happy baby faces, maybe he will create one

I think this is what she was referring to Zoodles's Kid Mode
Kid Mode is by far my favorite as it updates content as it grows with you child. It pulls content from other sites so you end up with a nice mix of games and videos. My boy (2) will spend an indefinite amount of time playing this game...

thanks for suggestion! I tried it before but could not figure out how to run anything to my shame and lock mode was incomplete - it did not lock the home and power keys. But I'll give it another shot

My 19 month old son loves mobile phones and remote controls (i let him play around with my older Samsung but not my HD2) but he seems to like X-Piano, i actually think it's a really cool app myself, plays all different types of sounds from acoustic grand piano to music box to synthbass to church organ and loads others and best of all it's free from the market

lol i also encourage my little boy (15 months old) who loves that talking cat.
He doesnt get his hands on my hd2, bit reluctant about my android tablet too but i do just give him my mrs's iphone (its bascially a toy anyway)

[REQ] Music/Rythym game?

First of all I hope this is in the right section.
I was hoping to find some awesome music/rythym games later in the Android Market.
Well, it's been about over a year since Android was released, and I still see a lack of good rythym games!
My request is for a developer to try their best and create a well-designed music game, hopefully using our own music from the SD card..
That would be awesome!
Do you mean like this?

Id like to see multitouch implemented somewhere in one of these games ...

No, I know this is on the market, but we need something better.
Guitar Hero mobile for Android wasn't exactly the best experience I've had.
I have been asking for this game to come to Android since I got my G1. Mainly looking for the NIN Edition!
http://tapulous.com/
Even sent them a request, but so far nothing has come of it. I recommend everybody request it, If there is enough support they might port it.

some of you may have played it before but this is a steam game called Audiosurf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTZTPdDW7PM
a game like this would be awesome on the nexus... basically it produces a unique track based off of each song for that song and its a sort of tetris game where you have to match the blocks up and such... was well worth 10 dollars on steam when it first dropped, i had countless hours of obsessed fun on the thing

That's a very good game, but it needs to ne refined more. But we REALLY need a game like TTR or Audiosurf, I have nothing against taps of fire, but I don't like playing on amazing. Too much for my thumbs.
Here is the link for tap tap revenge:

Everybody should request it so we can get it ported.
In the mean time, I found this:
http://code.google.com/p/tapsoffire/
Somebody mentioned it in this thread already, but I searched the market for it, but it didn't appear. It probably wasn't designed for the Nexus so it didn't show up, but there is a Droid version available from the Google code page. Free and open source!
One of the best music games is Taps of Fire. I have it installed, I recommend others to download this app too, only bad thing is having to hit the notes a little early, but its fine.

[Q] Apps for Kids / Thinking of buying this tablet

Hey all
I'm thinking of buying this really nice tablet. But of course, it needs to be properly justified with the powers-that-be (The Wife).
Anyway I'd really like to use it with my almost 3-yo son but I'm not sure if there are *good* apps for kids. Entertaining apps but also some that could be educational. I don't want a simple doodling app, but something engaging and interactive.
The iPad has tons of these, I know. But want to know how large is the market for these apps on Android?
Thanks!
I've only played with Kid Mode and its pretty good but taking a quick look at the market there is a lot out there. Would need someone who actually has children and use them to give a verdit tho.
Oceanhouse Media have done a lot of Dr. Seuss learning apps but they are paid apps.
I don't mind payed, as long as they're good. Dr Seuss's stuff sounds interesting, though I'm from Latin America and his work (if he even is a person, I don't know) is really little known...
Like you said, I'd love to hear from people with little kids on their experiences. Mind you I'm looking for something more than "something to keep him off my back" if you know what I mean
I recommend to buy the stuffed animals and play together outside, because it develops more. If you like some things it does not necessarily been good for your child.
Good advice. Although stuffed animals dont do very well in the outdoors
But some interactivity for when indoors is always welcome.
... Iwas looking for some good apps for kids, but almost no luck.
My 2,5 yr old boy likes machines - cars, trains, wheels of all kind etc.
Unfortunatelly almost everything I found for kids for android is animal oriented - all sort of boring human like fluffy animals.
So my boy stick with watching tunes on youtube, drawing with Drawing Pad (paid) and coloring with Zebra Paint. Everything else - no interest.
Also love to watch someone playing Angry Birds...
Didn't tried Dr.Zeuss - he doesn't speak english (yet...
I'm really missing what I've seen on iPad
Anyway I will appreciate if someone finds something for kids of this age (2-4) and will report if I find something.
Monkey Preschool Lunchbox
I have a 1 1/2 year old and he loves this game. He doesn't get how to do all the games yet so I help him a lot or he uses my hand to complete the puzzles. It was offered on Amazon for free one day, so I grabbed it. I play it on my rooted NookColor with my little one. My TF is on the way and I'm sure it will do much better on there.

9mm to Xperia Play?

Do you guys think we will get '9mm' optimized for our Plays?
The game is available for iPhone, iPod and iPad today, and and gameloft says that the game will come to Android soon. What do you think?

I would love to play this on my Play with real controls :d
i hope we do. i got it on my iphone 4 and love it. it woukd be great to try with the controller
Haha just the other day I was looking for this game for Android and came to the same conclusion as you.
I'm pretty sure they'll optimize it, since they already have a lot of games with working stuff, except the sliding aiming pad which sucks hard IMO.
Let's hope they don't take too long to release it.

Maybe I'm not used to it yet, right now I play NOVA2 from time to time and even if I try to move just a little bit and barely move my thumb I never get precise aiming - far objectives where they aren't auto-aimed.

I really hope they do, but with the time taken to port order and chaos (1 month so far and still not officially available) I think we will be left behind or wont get it at all, lets hope they start taking it seriously. Why not just allow us to set our own controls, open it up and let me set hardware buttons to anything I want

There you go again. Stop with the personal attacks. People are entitled to their opinions and not everything is Daises and Roses. If you can take the bad with the good then maybe you should be the one to go away.
We are all adults and come here to discuss gaming and the Play. If enough people complain and someone from Gameloft reads it then maybe they will do something about it. You are not the Forum police so please stop the personal attacks.
Or are you a Dev from Gameloft and can’t take the feedback?

If people dont like gameloft games, don't buy them, the only way gameloft will get the message is when they get there bank statement XDA is about sharing ideas and experiences, not moaning about the same thing every day on every single thread, this thread is about the possibility of 9mm for the play, no1 cares what thatsupnow thinks of gameloft, it's not even relevent to the thread, and to be honest we have all heard what he has to say, again and again and again .......

What's the thread title? It's certainly not "What's your opinion on Gameloft games controls". I agree with the other guys. I own like 5 gameloft games, I know damn well that some of them suck balls for controls, I don't need to see it everywhere on these forums, only in appropriate places. This thread is about a single game, 9mm, which isn't even out for Android yet so you have no idea how it controls on the Play.

It's amazying.
I made it to halfway through world 2- here are my thoughts.
This game is beautiful- it looks great, and the way it works is absolutely fantastic. I can honestly say it is one of the best games I've yet to play on Android- maybe the best.
That being said, it is way too big. 5MB should be the max before installation to SD should be implemented- this game is over 20. Either work on reusing more textures, or have it install to SD.
I was playing with the device laying down, and the gravity button was flipping out- switching every update cycle and just going crazy. You may want to have it display an X if the values aren't high enough to justify a gravity switch (I love the way this mechanic works, by the way!)
Fix these issues, and most standard prices you would ask for would be too low for this game- I would gladly pay for more worlds. (Though, if more worlds were added, you may want to work on the difficulty curve- if you want my thoughts on that, let me know). Again, great job!
Thanks that's huge compliment you give us there.. we are really appreciate.
We will work on the to SD feature.. since a lot of people had demanded it! I'll update it ASAP.
there are some reason makes us can't reuse texture though
first .. our artist is new in drawing texture for games... he just draw whatever he feels right and not considering about texture size and reusability. (we will do it better next time)
second.. in some device.. too many sprites makes game really laggy.. so we tend to use huge jpg file for background
i don't know anything about marketing on android app.... because we are totally noobies in this... Actually this game is not only our first game on android.. it's our first android app if you don't count "Hello World" as a app XD
After we think we learn enough to build this game. we go straight into it. It take us 5 months to build because we need to learn new stuff along the way
I use XNA mostly, and my brother use c++ and some graphic engine from his lab, neither did we use andengine before. and we love it!
We are thinking putting ads in it....and yet it's something we never tried XD, so I might need to check documents. After that we will release a clean ads free version for 0.99$ i think..for us.. most important thing is people can play our game. and feel it's not waste of time. those few hour must actually means something
Downloaded to my htc inspire 4G. I Am amazed by what you have created. This is awsome! I love free...but this needs to be a paid game. It is worth every penny.

Just read about this on the portal. Downloaded it on my A100 and started playing, will have to download it to my EVO 3D later. Love it. This is definitely better than some of the games that other devs charge for. Excellent work.

Really Gameloft? How did you make SC:Conviction WORSE?!

Some developers have pulled off some pretty awesome **** with Xperia PLAY's touch-pads.
Gameloft, on the other hand, has been spotty - yet playable.
Splinter Cell Conviction, however, has been the only one I can say was absolutely unplayable. You'd think they would naturally figure something out that's functional since other devs have laid out the groundwork to perfect control schemes, but I ran into an update today that somehow rose the bar on horrible touch-pad usage (which is amazing because Conviction already held the title as the worst).
Now there's no analog movement whatsoever... the entire touchpad workspace is now just simulating the touch-screen, and movement is tied to the d-pad... and with that, all the auxiliary functions that should be on the d-pad are spread out in completely unnatural-feeling places.
I could understand if Gameloft hadn't already churned out some workable touch-pad control schemes, but it's like they un-learned all their accomplishments from MC3, N.O.V.A. 2 and Shadow Vanguard.
Stay classy, Gameloft -_-.
When did you buy Splinter Cell? I would never buy an old gameloft, they are just bad. Espaccially the one wichwhere availeble before the Xperia Play came out.

I got it around when the $0.99 sale was going on. Pretty much stocked up on any Xperia PLAY Optimized GL game I didn't have.
I bought SC: Conviction a long while ago during one of the 99 cent sales and finally got around to it yesterday after beating Rainbow Six. Right when I started it it asked for an update. Holy crap you are correct, the game is straight out unplayable. The right touchpad doesn't work half the time and when it does it randomly fires your gun or "activates" something. You need to reach your thumb over to the left touchpad just to be able to look around, but as for targeting people and getting headshots? Nearly impossible. I think I may just dump it and not bother finishing, its just plain frustrating to play.
The sad part is the production values on it are amazing, the graphics and all. But the controls are beyond horrendous.
Then the strangest part, Rainbow Six was unbelievable. Console game quality production values, amazing graphics, good voice acting, and the controls were dead on perfect better than any other FPS I've played on this phone. How were both of these games developed by the same people (or did Ubisoft make them and Gameloft distributes under license)?
Y'see, this is why I own an Xbox. I played the Gameloft Conviction on my iPod touch about a year ago and hated it. <3 Xbox Conviciton <3

Yeah.. I have a PS3.... plus this game was only a buck, if I had paid $5.99 for it I would be really angry.
Even though you're only paying a dollar for a game I understand your expectations can't be super high, but you expect a game to at least be playable. This one absolutely is not. Its just strange because Rainbow Six is the complete opposite and one of the best games on the phone ever, IMO.
I sent a nasty email to GL just a moment ago regarding Sacred Odyssey force closing and the crappy SC Conviction. I have 3 different GL email addresses and I sent an email to each one. It seems so far this year I have been having nothing but unresolved issues with GL, either its games or there online multiplayer issues. And I stated that in my email. I was unaware of Sacred Odyssey not working on 2.3.3 at all and bought the game only find I cannot play it. I swear I am so close to just telling GL to kiss my a$$ and just get my games from them elsewhere, I mean if they cannot uphold their end of the agreement to supporting a game why should we have to pay. We are expecting to at least have a functional working game(s) and most dont work and have serious issues, some worse then others, so basically we are just throwing $$$$ into GL face for a non working game(s). This in my opinion is stealing from their customers. They take your money, you think you are getting a functioning game and BAM! Screwed. Well screw you GL. I utterly despise you and your complete lack of support, I know why GL doesnt use the android market, because if they did Google would hound their asses to fix their games and by having to use their wapshop they have you by the balls. I know people will reply to this message and say "just dont buy their games" I wont enymore. I am sick and tired of their bullsh!t and their lies. I hope that somewhere GL employees and their bosses see this post and realize they are becoming a complete disaster and a joke. They make pretty games, but you donrt buy a game just to look at it. So I say lets stop buying there games, and I was going to make a thread on their forums but forget it, there has been a thread there for months where people list their issues with Xperia PLAY games and its just being ignored by GL. The only person replying to anyones posts is Nik, and that persons reply is "I have forwarded your message to your support department".... more like trash bin. GL are a bunch of a$$holes. Sorry for the rant, I didnt mean to type this long of a message, I am just so extremely tired and angry with them. And no I dont want cheese with my whine.......

Gameloft's really good at giving you what they already have. And they're actually very prompt about responding considering how most big companies make you fight through 15 minutes of automated hell just to get horrible customer service.
...the problem is that they don't do too well at fixing what's wrong. Eternal Legacy, for example has an issue with the touchpad that makes you go flying in diagonal directions if you use the touch-pad at all... this means that the game was able to be released without ANYONE noticing that the analog won't even let you walk straight... I mean damn, that's a pretty critical issue.
I do appreciate that they gave me Starfront: Collision for free, but I kinda wanted Eternal Legacy to be fixed... this happened over half a year ago without them fixing it BTW.

This is exactly right about them. They are always very friendly and more than happy to give you a free game for your trouble, I got 9mm for free for complaining about Shadow Guardian and how theres a bug that basically makes it impossible to complete the game. Its something that seems really simple to fix too (works fine on the iOS version).
That said, I like Shadow Guardian better, I want to finish it. I and MANY others informed them of this bug months ago, and yet they haven't done anything to fix it, and I'm sure they are still selling the game, broken.
Yet they had time to release a patch to make Splinter Cell worse.....
How do you guys play shadow guardian? I found it really hard to even hit that guy with the Shield as I roll away and then can't aim on him in time. Help?
Also, I bought SC: conviction despite the comments here and it is pretty bad. Sam starts shooting randomly whilst I'm just moving, is this the standard?

I dont, due to the issues. Hence the reason for my rant a few posts back.

The guys with the shield you have to aim for their legs, which is tough, or you gotta just keep moving and get on the side of them. Or use a powerful weapon like a grenade launcher.
As for SC, its because they changed the mapping, it seems that they mapped the whole touch screen to the touchpads. So the right touchpad does that when you look around sometimes. if you use the left one it won't but its way uncomfortable to use that way.
I'll write a complaint then...
are you SUPPOSED to get round the Shields guys in shadow guardian? Because I find that immensely hard if that's the case...

Real late in the game you are jumping from these bars that are between two walls that are closing in on eachother. You need to get to the last part within the time limit or you get crushed. The problem is that its actually impossible to do, you get crushed before the walls are even close enough to crush you. Someone posted a video online of the iOS version and I did it at speed vs the video exactly and it was impossible to pass.
I posted about it here and someone else had the same problem, and then I emailed Gameloft and they agreed it was a known bug and they haven't fixed it yet.
So I can't finish the game at all?
Well... That's an abomination

Correct, and Gameloft has known about it for at least 3 months if not more. But hey they will give you a free game if you complain.
