Hi! I just bought an FM transmitter that has a 3.5mm audio jack input. I connected my Samsung Galaxy S but I'm unable to transmit the music being played on my phone to the car stereo.
I increased the stereo to a very high volume and was able to hear some music, with static and almost can't be heard.
My guess is that I should change the setting somewhere (similar to my old N95 phone where it would prompt me to select to which mode to choose: Headphones, Music Stand, etc.)
Can anyone help?
sounds like the headphone cord isnt in the jack all the way. Or your transmitter is bad. Or you are trying to transmit on a frequency that is already being used by a real radio station.

I checked and the jack is connected.
The transmitter works because when I play music from a USB stick plugged in, it works.
Same as above, using the same frequency but from a USB stick, it works
Are you using a dock? Did you check your media volume settings?

Hi all.
If I have the FM Transmitter connected to the headphone jack on the phone and try to use a Bluetooth headset to make/recieve calls while driving, will this work?
I am concerned that the phone will try to output the sound to the car stereo and that the voice will be picked up by the phones built-in speaker.

If it's a standard headphone adapter, it should be fine, I was able to use my BT headset with a Himalaya connected to desktop speakers, but it might vary with devices.
Best bet is try if you already have a BT headset to connect a normal pair of headphones to it and see what happens, it certainly won't hurt it, and the fact it's speakers, headphones, or FM transmitter is irrelevant as it's just a jackplug audio output as far as the device is concerned.
I don't have the BT headset yet - Going to buy the two said items together, but hopefully it works on the XDA/K-Jam or whatever too.

I have an older Audi a4 with the factory Concert/Bose radio. I replaced the CD changer input with one of these:

This allows me to input audio to my car radio using RCA-type connectors. I then got one of these:

that lets me plug into a 1/8 jack and send the audio to the RCA jacks. I then got:

which allows me to pluf the 1/8" plug into my Trinity. I didn't use this exact one, but mine is similar to this one. Don't use the 1/8" converter that is in the form of a single solid piece, only use the ones that have a short length of wire between the two ends. The solid ones do not stay in properly. Also, by using the Y connector, I can both plug my Trinity into my stereo as well as plug in a regular 12v lighter power converter and power it. I then finished it off with the ProClip/Brodit cradle:

Everything works great! Once I have it all hooked in,
1.) I can play MP3's through my car stereo (useful)
2.) TomTom directions also go through my car stereo, and the music is slightly muted making directions easier to follow (very useful)
3.) Best of all, I tried calling my girlfriend (while the Trinity was in the cradle, playing MP3's through my stereo), and a.) her side of the conversation came through my car speakers, with the music muted, and b.) she said she could hear me just fine (but a little loud), which tells me the Trinity continued to use the internal microphone and amplified my voice the same way it would when set on speakerphone!
So, I now have the equivalent of in-dash navigation, integrated cellphone, and MP3 player. And I can take it with me when I leave the car! This is exactly why I bought this phone in the first place. What surprises me is that it actually worked!!! <grin>

I share a similar story.
I drive a Mazda 3.
I installed a chip at the back of the stereo so that it allows an audio auxiliary input into my car stereo.
I then bought a 3-in-1 adaptor, car charger and mic adaptor from ebay.
This is so that I can place my craddle and phone further away, while having the mic externalised and stuck near my dashboard.
So in effect, same deal! GPS navigation + mp3 player while charging, calls get accepted no problem, and make calls via voice speed dial. Absolutely loving it.

You should check out my set up, I have my Trinity on a GPS holder (suction cup), my trinity is then connected to a device like this:

It accepts USB drives to play MP3's through the FM Transmitter, however I used the USB port to power my device, and the 3.5mm port (this allows you to plug in other devices and play through the device via FM) goes to my Bluetooth handsfree (i-Tech Radio Clip).
From here I have an ultimate wireless solution apart from the recharging, however Bluetooth really takes a lot of memory and slows the Trinity, however music plays and Tomtom works! no issues with that, the Radio Clip has remote functions so I can change music while Tomtom is still on, I don't have to minimise Tomtom and go to WMP to change music, I just do it on my Bluetooth device.
However this isn't a perfect solution, as Bluetooth really takes a lot of memory
I looked into using an FM transmitter approach, but there are a lot of FM stations around where I drive, so finding a clear channel gets to be a pain. Also, I'm stupidly picky when it comes to audio quality, which is better using a wired solution rather than the FM solution. Looks like a good apprach though!

In most cases with FM Transmittors and it depends on the FM Transmittor, it usually dominates the FM Channel, so if you had it on say 104.1 in which in Australia is 104.1 Today FM as long as the Transmittor is nearby and close to your aerial it is all good!
But yeah, I feel that bluetooth and FM Transmission can cause quality lose in Audio, however sometimes I can't tell the difference, I have the USB to 3.5mm converter and I was dumb enough not to find the USB and 3.5mm unit, which was available at that time, but oh well, alls well ends well.

I bought this one and works great, it has everything I need, but when I connect it to my stereo, the music has no bass. Still have to figure that one out. Any ideas?
I have a small 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, then connect that to one of those tapes with 3.5mm jack. It works great on my PSP, but with my phone the bass is gone. I have 1.23 with GPS and WM5. I have to try different player (Using WMP) and the HTC equalizer & audio manager.
Anyway, I love the setup, everything is together into a cool device.

Hey! Exactly the same setup I had with my old Magician! I had glued the 2,5mm jack to the Brodit holder, so it would connect power and audio at the same time. It was a treat to use!
However, now I have a Sony BT2500 Bluetooth car radio and don't need no connectors (besides USB power) any more.

I have a similar configuration, on my alpine stereo.
Sound quality is great and everything works as you told.. very good but,
when i have a call, i can hear very well from my car speaker but the other side can't hear me my Trinity don't continue to use the internal microphone. I'm quite sure it's a trouble by audio jack to htc usb converter: every post i read i found only Y cables (audio and input power)... mine is 3 way: http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=7920

just as the title says, is it possible to send music via bt to my stereo just like when i make or recieve calls?
not that i'd use this as a sole way to listen to music in my car, but i just started wondering if it were possible, and if so, how?
It's possible, but you have to make sure that your Stereo has the bluetooth profile for A2DP. It's the same pairing process, but instead of only streaming call audio it will stream any other audio too.
Also, the stereo will have a headphone icon under bluetooth preferences.

I do that all the time in my car. The sound quality is not as good as hooking up a cable through th aux jack. The nav direction also come through my car stereo.
Ah yes, I forgot about A2DP being needed... That would make my situation impossible... I'll just have to get a 3.5 mm to RCA plug for aux... Thanks guys.

I had some trouble with this, but the key for me was making my Pioneer head unit "forget" my previous phone. Now it works great!
Actually there is a way to stream music wirelessly to your car stereo: mini FM transmitters. Quite cheap on ebay. I wouldn't bet on audio quality tho.

With these, you are supposed to plug your headphones into that dogtag. My question is, if you don't plug your headphones into the dogtag, but instead plug the headphones into the phone itself, will the music come through the phone itself? If it doesn't then it defeats the purpose//

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but it sounds like you're missing the point.
You pair that device with your phone, and audio will be sent from your phone to it via bluetooth. You then connect the "dogtag" to your car's head unit's aux-in. You can then control the audio via the buttons on the dogtag.
edit: oh I see what you mean. You want to use the dogtag solely for control and still connect the headunit directly to the phone? I haven't fiddled with BT audio in a long time, so I'm not sure if you can deselect the audio profile and just use control. If not, sound will be routed over bluetooth.
You could look into a headunit with bluetooth support as well.
i have that same headset, which is originally desigend by jabra as BT3030. didn't use it anymore but just checked what you are trying to find out.
1. when the headset is not connected to telephone media you are not able to use the dogtag to control the player.
2. if the dogtatg is connected to telephone media your are able to control the player but the headphone out of the phone is muted.
so it does not work the way u want it to. sry mate
But I'm not exactly sure why you'd want to plug the phone into the car and use the remote by itself.
Plug the remote into the car and it becomes more or less a fixed item.
You'll be able to do everything just the same, except that there's a wire or two connecting to the remote.
You'll be able to leave the phone in your pocket. Depending on the design of that BT player, if it switches on and resumes playback when there is USB power, it'd be pretty much a completely automated solution. Turn the car on, USB power is supplied, it pairs with your phone in your pocket, and playback resumes.

After much searching for this simple request, how to enable Audio output to the headphone / 2.5mm audio jack and output to bluetooth speakers at the same time.
This is not a request how to get music to play on bluetooth mono headphones etc.
I am wanting to have my Nexus 5 plugged into the speakers and amp in one room, then also have my UE Boom in the next room playing audio via bluetooth.
As soon as I plug in the speakers via the jack, the bluetooth sound output is muted.
Going into Bluetooth settings and unticking music and then ticking music starts audio playing via bluetooth but stops audio via 2.5mm jack.
Any settings I need to know about? Apps or custom ROMs to do this simple feature.
Think of this as a keep playing to speakers when headphones are plugged in. Possible in Ubuntu, is it possible on Android?
