Safe Mode? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using the Music player. After an MP3 file ended I looked at my phone and it was in Safe Mode (the text "safe mode" was in the block in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
My live wallpaper was replaced the default Nexus wallpaper. I rebooted and it came back to normal. Any idea why this happened? I don't believe my phone rebooted into Safe Mode. It seemed to just enter into that state.
Any ideas?

all android phones have a SAFE MODE
each phone has a different combination of keys, or screen wipe, or combination of both to enter into the SAFE MODE
as the name implies it is just like your PC machine, it lets you go into SAFE MODE to fix whatever problem might be preventing it from working normally
rebooting the phone will go back to Normal Mode

My Nexus S did something similar just now. Screen off, screen on in safe mode.
Does anyone know why I would nearly instantly switch to safe mode?
I'm on ASOP 2.3. I rebooted and everything was normal.

To boot into safe mode, you hold the 'menu' key while booting

I'm sorry if my post was unclear.
I did not hold down the menu key on boot. I did nothing special to enter safe mode.
My phone was on, I blanked the screen with browser and LauncherPro running, and when I unblanked my screen 5sec later it was in safe mode with the default launcher.
Has anyone else seen this specificity?

Are you sure your phone didn't reboot on its own you just happened to hold the menu button? xD

That would be a slim chance. The time from me blanking the screen and putting it in my pocket to pulling it out again was maybe 5 seconds. I didn't see the nexus boot screen, so I don't think it did. But I guess it's possible.
I haven't had it happen since then.

[Q] Help: I Bricked My Device?

I've been hacking away at this Captivate for a month since I got it. Maybe a hundred times going into download mode. But, now I cannot get my device into download mode from the: "PHONE --/\-- COMPUTER" screen.
Here's what I've been doing since I've had the phone:
- Pull battery, sd, sim
- Put battery in
- Put USB in
- Hold both Volume and Power down
- Once the PHONE--COMPUTER screen goes black, wait.
- After it goes black one more time, let go of Power button
What is going on? Am I screwed here? I was applying the Ext2 (2.3) lag fix over JH2 when this happened, here's my CMD:

Of course! I even pressed "Allow" on superuser. The fix won't continue past a few lines without root access.
pull the battery, sim card, sdacard...
put in the battery, hold volume down, plug in the usb cable and keep holding volume down until you get into download mode.

Worked like a charm!
Super super odd. I've been getting taking this thing into download mode like every 2 minutes since I've had the device. Never had a problem till now!
Why wouldn't my usual procedure in the OP work? It always has for me?

I think those are higher level methods, something may have been messed up and keeping them from working.
I am pretty sure this method is a lower level method that will always work.

Sensation Safe Mode

Hi I accidentaly stumbled upon a "Safe Mode" on the HTC Sensation.
It adds a text box that says "safe mode" in to the left bottom corner, havent figured out yet what it really does. exept this.
I accidentaly held the volume up rocker pressed down after the HTC logo screen on boot up and this is what i got.
Does anyone know what it is for?

How can I enter safe mode?
In order to enter safe mode, please turn off the phone. Then briefly press the Power button to turn on the phone. While the phone powers on, press and hold the Volume down button until phone loads the OS and "Safe Mode" should appear on the lower left part of the screen
NOTE 1: If the process does not allow you to enter safe mode, kindly remove the back cover, remove the battery and then place it back in.
NOTE 2: Safe mode is a way wherein you can view built-in applications without hard-resetting the phone.

I still don't really get the point of this functionality...
Haha i understand why the stupid Windoze has it - cause its a stupid OS. But why on earth did they put safe mode on android????
Maybe it has something to do with the contract that htc has with microsoft about the "flagship phones must come out with windows os first"..
Hmmm maybe we are running Sense windows and not android... Thats why they locked the bootloader, so we will never find out by trying to install Android...
Wouldnt that be weird haha.
P.s. - im joking.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
This mode is in case you have some problems with your downloaded apps that prevent phone from functioning normally. From here, phone only loads OS and apps that were pre-installed form the factory so you can un-install troubled items and/or use your phone without doing full factory reset.
my sensation stuck in safe mode...
try 1, 2 , 3 ROMS and its the same thing...
It is that the ROMs is not suported for my device!?
Any ideas?

Why are the volume buttons the wrong way round?

Was this tablet made for never using in portrait mode or something?
Up to lower volume, down to increase? wtf?
Also, people say press volume down and power to boot into the bootloader (and I need to use the button on the right, even though this is technically up) and then on that screen it says press volume down again, but I need to press the button on the left this time
anyone know why they did this?
I don't really understand your issues with the bootloader sequences but I will agree that it seems ass backwards when you are holding the tablet in landscape with the buttons on top.
I would love to see Samsung (or some gifted XDA user )add the option to have the volume keys follow the UI.
You should be able to remap the volume keys to be reversed if you use the device predominantly in portrait mode.
But like Caldair said, I'd love to see them auto remap based on orientation.
I think basically what it boils down to is on the 7" its viewed more as an E-reader type device and so they assume portrait orientation so the button furthest from the power button is volume down as it points down but on the 10.1 it's more like a computer screen so they are in landscape mode so left in down and right is up, this is also seen in there positioning of the USB 30-pin connector (which denotes the "bottom" side of the device).
I just find it weird that you have 2 versions of basically the same device just different screen sizes and the volume buttons are ass backward from each other, makes things really screwy when you try to tell people how to get into download mode or recovery.
Frankly the 10.1 volume buttons is far less an issue then the decision on the 7 to put the speakers on the "bottom" which when your watching a movie or doing about 90% of things in android that are in Landscape all your sound comes from ONE side.
It is badly designed, compared to the previous version, I think they just didn't care.

How to fix your android tablet. If your tablet is not working
How to do a factory reset on an Android tablet when your start up screen is hanging. Some methods show how to reset from the operating system but in this instance you cannot get to the software it just shows the android screen. We will then have to get to the boot screen, not all tablets will give you a menu screen in boot mode, so once it is here simply allow it to reboot itself and your android tablet should now start up with factory default settings, simply reinstall your apps, and I am assuming you have stored your data on a cloud or an SD card.
This problem is rather frustrating as there is no complete clear set way of solving this problem, as there are different android versions and so many different manufacturers of the devices it is very difficult to actually pinpoint and accurately describe the function appropriate for your device to get it out of the boot loop. This app will give you a way which works without the use of any tools just a series of key presses to reset your android device.
This works 80 percent of the time
If the advice in this app does not correctly reset your device you may have to try a slightly different sequence if your android version is different. For example Try powering off? and booting, count 2 seconds then press the volume button vigorously then as shown. If no luck increase to 4 seconds then 6.....etc up to 10 seconds count. You may also have the option to go through a menu. Use your volume keys to see if you can scroll through an option menu which will then enable you to restart your device that way. If you have no luck then please follow our firmware upgrade procedure in our Android Repair Manual at
http://androidtabletnotworking.com/
It includes step by step procedures with picture illustrations, also firmware download links to many android tablets which are often stuck in boot mode.
Want to Open your tablet?
Yes you have an android tablet but now there is something wrong with it, you feel in your heart that if you can
just open it you can solve the problem but it is not straight forward how to open it.
We will show you how to open your tablet without damaging it cosmetically or electronically.
Android tablet spares and repairing
How to open a tablet
Mini jack headphone socket not functioning. You cannot use headphones on your device
Power jack socket not functioning. You cannot charge your device correctly

Speaker damage. Internal speaker has blown and is playing music and sounds with distortion
These all can be resolved and some are easily done whereby others need technical assistance.

Please help! S5 encryption fail cannot reset phone to factory settings

I have the sprint samsung galaxy s5 north american version. SM-G900P.
It was working fine all day. sometime during the night it just restarted while i was browsing the internet (while waiting for Jurassic World to play) and the error popped up saying unable to complete encryption due to interruption. There is a button to that says "reset device" but it doesn't work.
I tried to do a factory reset by holding the "home+VOL UP+ power button" but after it loads past the recovery mode. All i see is the android with the red exclamation mark and then the phone just automatically restarts.
To my knowledge this phone isn't rooted.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what i can do to fix my phone.

Hey I appreciate your input, I only included that download screen to show more info about the phone.... As I have stated in my post that I tried to do a factory reset via holding the PWR,VOL+,and HOME button but after the recovery mode loads. I just get the dead android with the red triangle of death. (red exclamation mark) and you know how usually after the recovery mode loads you have the list of options on the side that you can scroll through using the vol buttons it was not there. Then the phone would just restart after a few seconds. I tried to hold the VOL+ and POWER button after the recovery mode to see if maybe it would do something but it did't work...
So far I've ran into one other person with the problem and they just gave up and bought another phone! Wish me luck!
Found a solution yet?
I have the same issue, happened in the morning after my alarm went off. Luckily after and not before otherwise I might have been late to work...
Anyway I can't do a factory reset either. Was thinking about flashing the firmware but can't seem to load the bootloader screen either.
Have you found a work around?
Guys, I just went through somewhat similar, but for SM-G900F international version. You might want to take a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/s5-sm-g900f-multiple-fatality-soft-t3351343.
cool down
I know i am late but when the triangle comes up with dead android just use power button once and screen will show options
