[Q] SMS Tone reset after boot. - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else have this problem? How can I make sure that R2D2 plays when I get a text if I don't know that my ring tone has changed? lol get it? Android... Anyway it's annoying and now I just pinned down when it was happening. Not sure why.
EDIT: Also when I go to the settings in Messaging to change it I scroll through the list and none of them are selected.

Okay so I didn't exactly pin down when it was happening. It happened again without powering off and powering back on.

Problems with screen locking during calls.

Ok, this is probably going to be a complete noob type solution, but it's got me stumped.
My screen locks during calls. Can still see all the buttons (End, Keypad, Speaker etc) but they are all disabled. Not a huge problem on a normal call as I can use the hard button to end the call but makes it impossible to use voicemail etc which need the keypad.
I'm using S2U2 along with NRG CHT ROM but nothing else I can think of which may be affecting the screen.
Been right through the settings in S2U2 but the best I could manage was switching the "Lock On Talk" to "BT Only" which made it work for one call and I was able to use my voicemail but then tried again and it's all locked up again.
Anyone else had this or know what might be causing it.
Hi there, not to sure what could be causing that... I had the same problem months ago, a Hard Reset sorted out the problem. Think it was something i installed, not sure what

[Q] Gmail Vibrate Notifications Problem

I have a stock Froyo 2.2 Captivate. For the past month or two, whenever my phone is in vibrate only mode, the phone vibrates for phone calls, but does not vibrate properly for Gmail notifications. Specifically, if I'm holding the phone in my hand when a gmail arrives, I see the notification in the notification bar and feel the most slight millisecond vibration of the phone. I've tried checking general sound settings, gmail settings, and downloaded "Sound Manager" without any luck.
Somehow, it seems that the default vibrate has went from a long bold buzz to this slight millisecond buzz and I haven't found a way to get that back. I know you can customize those settings in specific situations with software such as HandCent but I don't know about fixing the general default vibrate buzz...
Any ideas for troubleshooting? Anyone with a solution?
Thanks!
There are separate notification settings for gmail...have you turned on vibration there?
Sent from my Cappy
Yea, the gmail settings are set for vibration.
and technically i'm getting vibration notifications, but the vibration is so slight and so short that I can only feel it if i'm holding the phone in my hand. settings> sound> vibration settings look normal and I can feel vibration with incoming phone calls but the vibrations for notifications are nearly imperceptible.
Ideas?
No one hear of this problem? Anywhere else I could look for solutions? I haven't been able to find anything about it around the web...

i have the same problem..no vibration settings for gmail!! i remember i could find them a couple of months ago...weird
For anyone coming across this problem:
After updating to the official Gingerbread 2.3.5 firmware, the problem resolved automatically and vibration notification are all working properly again. I still don't know what the problem was and if it was possible to fix it without flashing the firmware, but apparently that is one way to fix it.
I remember having the same issue on 2.2 with my phone too. I ended up downing a different gmail app that had a better vibration setting. But yah now with gingerbread that app wasnt needed anymore.
I guess I'm the odd one, I had no problems until I updated to the 2.3.5

[Q] No vibration when SMS arrives

Hi,
I have got an issue that when the new SMS arrives the phone doesn't vibrate. I checked all possible settings and it says everywhere that it should vibrate. I just have wiped the phone completely and reloaded it with my ROM (see signature) and then I sent text message to myself just after it rebooted first time and the problem still exists. It vibrates without any problems on incoming calls.
Any ideas what can cause that, or maybe there is hidden setting that I haven't found that prevents it from vibrating?
Thanks
OK, I have resolved that. It was set everywhere apart from the settings in "Messages". It was set to Vibrate->Never. I was not even aware of that setting... I think it wasn't there on my HD2 ROM or it was always set to vibrate.

Individualized notifications

Hi all, I seem to be unable to get individual text notifications working on my S8+. That is, I go into the contact, I find where it says "Message Tone" and I set the tone I'd like to use. When I go in and look, everything seems to be correct.
Then when a text comes in, the default notification is still used. This is the case when both a tone that I added is used, or a built in tone. I had thought perhaps it was because I was using a 3rd party texting app (Textra, was not a fan of the default Samsung app), but even when I reset to the Samsung messages app, this was still the case (I even tried restarting the phone after setting messages as the default, just to make sure).
Anybody else having this issue? Anybody fix it? I've tried everything I can find, hopefully one of you can point out something obvious that I've missed.

Personalized notifications for contacts not working...

I posted this in the AT&T S8+ Forum, figured i'd post in here too, might get faster help. I did do a couple searches before posting, but if someone has already addressed this I apologize.

No issues here, after setting the message tone you want are you tapping save in the upper right of the screen?

I am. I've attached a screenshot for a contact I'm using as a test (my GVoice number). It LOOKS like it's set up correctly (at least to me) just not working correctly. Personalized Ring Tones seem to work, but not text notifications.
The phone is doing a couple other quirky things. I'm wondering if it might be time to just say "F it" and do a hard reset.

Here are the screens I get when changing a ringtone or messaging tone. Didn't get the screenshot low enough for messaging tone, it's right below ring tone.

Yeah, I don't think I'm doing anything differently. Weird that ring tones work but not text messages. I had a couple different contact managers installed (don't really like the Samsung one) and thought maybe they were causing the issue, so uninstalled them and rebooted. Still no go.
I do like the look of the dark theme for the contacts app though, definitely gonna change it to that!
I also use Textra on my S8+, as I don't like the default one, and you set the personalized tones in Textra not contacts.
In Textra, go to one of the texts from someone that you want to customize and long press it, then go the three dot menu in the upper right corner and select customize. Then select Notifications, then notification sound and pick the one that you want.
Works perfectly...

:victory: The files are IN the computer!! It's so obvious!! Thanks so much, this has been driving me nuts.
Still a little weird it wouldn't work when I reset the phone to the Samsung app, but now I don't care because this works!! Thank you so much.
Sometimes it is just the little things...
