[Q] WiFi on when charging - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have managed to enable the very nifty feature to activate WiFi when the charger is connected on my HTC Hero (running Android 2.2) -- the problem is I can not remember where I enabled it or how I disable it again.
Any clues?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Is it stock or custom rom your running?

Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings > press menu > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy

I am not talking about the WiFi sleep policy. Let me elaborate;
1. WiFi is turned off.
2. I connect the charger to the phone.
3. WiFi automatically enables.
It is a custom rom, but I believe this setting was changed with another application, possibly a task killer. I could be wrong tho; I remember it being in a menu where you could change various power management and performance settings. I just can't find it again.

problem with wlan

anyone can help me?
i have the problem, that if i turn wlan on, it turns off automatically within 5 seconds....
maybe it's a timeout where if you don't connect to a network it turns off the wifi in order to save battery life? if so, probably a registry value to be tweaked somewhere. otherwise, maybe a more serious problem.
Is it when you are connected to your comp with active sync?
theres a setting that disables data connections when connected
in WinMoDevCentre go to Mobile Device settings -> Connection Settings -> Allow Data connections (last checkbox)
weird setting but that fixed it fine for me

wireless

hello!
my first ppc was a universal and then I trade to advantage.
i have wifi at home and no problems getting internet with ppcs above. anywhere at home.
now i have a raphael and i cant get wifi range in house's far room.
does anyone has this problem? does the wireless in raphael is worst than other ppcs?
do i have a tweak to solve this?
thanks

Can't say I've noticed the same, it has about the same reception as my Toshiba Satellite R20 with built-in wifi.
Maybe the wifi settings on the phone are set to power saving.
start => setting => connections (tab) => wireless lan => Powermode (tab)
slide it to best performance, if it isent.
thanks for your reply.
just did that already and also changed with tweaks to not disconnect when idle...

Legend. That was exactly the problem I was having... I didn't think to do that. Obviously the WIFI not working at all would be VERY power saving.

Disabling Mobile Data Connection

For users who are unsure on how to disable your mobile data connection, here's a method for you!
Simple go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks and un-check Data enabled.
Taken from http://droidbar.net/2010/12/how-to-disable-your-mobile-data-connection/
or you can go to (on 2.2 at least) Settings -> Wireless & Networks and simply uncheck the Mobile Network option.....
the built in power control widget can also toggle this for you as well.

can i use internet through data and wifi instead

hey
is there anyway to use wifi and data at the same time while browsing internet (not just for downloading) to get faster internet
i turned on (keep mobile data turned on) from developer options but that doesnot work because it uses just one network
Dont think this is possible.

Xperia XZ2 Premium - auto-connect and switch to best Wifi

Hi,
I have an Xperia XZ2 Premium running Sony's latest firmware (Android 9, 52.0.A.3.126, not rooted). At home I have 2.4 and 5Ghz networks from my main router, both repeated by a second router (four different SSIDs). I want the phone to automatically connect to my Wifi when returning home and, while moving in the house, to automatically connect to the strongest signal (5Ghz preferred over 2.4Ghz would be nice but not absolutely required).
Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Advanced > Turn on Wi-Fi automatically is active
In Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Advanced > Auto-connect I have enabled all four networks (2.4 and 5Ghz for router and repeater).
This setup automatically connects to my network when returning home but never changes to the best network while moving around the house. I have tried various apps such as Wifi Manager, Wifi Switcher, SWifi, SmartSwitch Pro and SmartWiFiSelector. They do connect to the best signal but shortly after such a change the phone goes back to that network it connected to in the first place when returning home. This fight between Wifi apps and the OS goes on forever.
In order to solve that problem I have to remove all networks from Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi preferences > Advanced > Auto-connect. But in that case I have to manually connect to my Wifi when returning home
How do I get both: auto-connect when returning home and auto-switch to strongest signal?

Torsten

If it's possible to do this, you will certainly need to root the device.

Oh, that's disappointing to hear. Would it help to use a common SSID for router and repeater? Probably something I should find out by myself...
OK, obviously I was living in the previous century. Moved everything into a single SSID and now the phone seamlessly switches between the available sources and frequencies - w/o any helper tools.
