Installation Instructions:
ALWAYS HAVE CHARGER CONNECTED WHEN UPDATING A FIRMWARE.
Preparation:
You must disable the CD-ROM drive with AT^U2DIAG=0 on the modem before you can use it on the folio.
Connect your USB modem to your PC, find out the COM port used by the modem and then connect via putty to the COM port and send AT^U2DIAG=0.
Here is a tutorial how to send AT commands using Windows: http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com/page/executing+AT-commands+under+Windows
Also disable the PIN check on your SIM card.

Installation:
copy the update.zip to a sdcard, and insert sdcard into folio.
Enter "Recovery menu" when folio is just turned on and press (POWER) once and (VOL up) next.
press (VOL up) Factory reset or system update.
press(VOL down) to continue to system update.
press (VOL up) to confirm system update.
during installation progress bar will show har far it is.
folio will reboot after installation.
Please ignore the "Unsupported USB Device" message. I have not yet manged to remove it.
After reboot a BLACK screen appear for a few minutes or so!! don't worry, its normal! This is only for the first start.
Supported devices:
Only HUAWEI devices will work!
Devices known to work:
* Vodafone K3765-H
* Vodafone K3715
* Vodafone K3565 / Huawei E160
* Huawei E173
* Huawei E1550
* Huawei E1692
* Huawei E1820
Devices needs to be tested:
Devices known NOT to work:
* Vodafone K3765-Z (this is manufactured by ZTE and not Huawei)
Known problems:
* PIN check is not working - disable the SIM PIN using a mobile phone or your PC
* Switching between GPRS and 3G does not work - you must replug your modem to get it work again
* Roaming must be enabled on some devices to get them work
Updates:
Update 1.1:
* Fixed initialization. Now more huawei modems will work.
* Bugfix ip-up and ip-down scrips

Please ignore the message. It is incorrect. I will always show up for devices not supported by stock android. I need to modify the firmware heavier to get rid of it. Please connect your modem and see if the signal strength bar will show up.

Do i have to deactivate the PIN CHeck? Or will there come a question for it?
I am testing the stick in my Notebook to be sure Stick and SIM Card are OK.
---> Afer deactivating PIN check and CD-Autoplay i have a signal but Internet doesn´t work for now. I will test a a little bit upstairs. 3G Net isn´t the best here

I have just tested the PIN check - it seems to be broken. I need to investigate this. So please disable it on the SIM card for now.

How do you send AT commands to the USB Modem
You say to disable CD-ROM, disable it sending AT commands...
How do you do this?
On the FOLIO or on a PC/MAC?
Thanks for the tip.

I'm trying with a E169G and i have signal and the 3g simbol but i can't use the internet. In pc i need to dial *#99# to get internet. In folio i can't dial.
Is this the reason to can't connect?
I'm using the foliomod 1.3d with the 3G update

How you do it........? coz i ardy try ...but cant work.. n i aslo not very understand.

Help pls
I downloaded putty and i started it at com port 4. It's open the commandline but do nothing and i cant write in it. What could be wrong?
The other thing, i installed the mod on my folio, now when i plug in the 3g modem its frezzes and i must restart the device.
The question is that the freezing problem is solved when i disable the zero disc on the 3g modem? And what i do wrong whit putty?
Thx!
(ps. sorry for the bad english)

when you report issues like this;
write the brand of your modem, and the model/type seen on probably backside of the usb dongle.
it will help alot.

Are you sure com4 is right? and have you set the Bitrate to 460800?
You can check which COMport is used in the Device Manager under Windows

Foliomod 1.3d, Huawei E1550, Comviq
Fixed the CDROM with putty, ran the update on the Folio.
After bootup I inserted the USBmodem (disabled WiFi), I'm now connected to
Sweden 3G, Comviq , the Icon in the top bar shows an R and strength.
Under Settings, Mobile Network Settings, "Data enabled" is checked.
However, clicking the browser gives:
"No network connection, Browser cannot load this page because there is no internet connection."
I dont get 3G but roaming, assuming this has to do with APN settings I tried to copy settings
from when the modem is in the PC. Not helping By enabling roaming I get a 3G icon with
arrows below but I still cannot access the internet.
Any other setting I should try changing ??
PS:Is it/will it be possible to send/recieve SMS with the Folio using this ??
/\/\artin

@ma1999
hi i use the huawei e160e and i can send sms with it.i downloaded a sms widget from the market an i was able to send sms.
and to the other thing,i had the same problem at the first time i made the 3g update.i solved it with apn manager that i downloaded in the market.after the install i made the right apn settings in it an bang i got internet.
here the two progs i used
apn manager
handcent sms
thats not the only one, there are many others that probaly work fine too.

I replaced the SIM card with the one i my mobile (both Comviq/Tele2) and with that card I got an internet connection.
Seems like the org. SIM got blocked out, possibly by trying to many times.
Also, I had to enable Roaming to get it working, dont know why ??
Tried HandCent SMS, did not work though.
Thanks !

Vodafone Huawei R201
I can't seem to get the Vodafone Huawei R201 working. I've tried to disable wifi on the Huawei and everything but it did not work. So I guess this one is not yet supported? or do I need to get a Modem that does not has a mobile wifi router in it?
anyways thx for your work. you're doing a great job

[HOW TO] Update your PRL manually (EPIC 4G)

Check POST #2 for the newest PRL
Hi, some people requested me to do a guide of how to update MANUALLY your PRL in the Epic 4G..here it is.
USE THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK, I’m not responsible for your phone loosing reception, ending world hunger, finding the cure for AIDS, or your supervisor giving you a raise after updating your PRL
What you will need.
Samsung Galaxy S Drivers
Epic 4G
QPST 2.7 Build 323
A newer PRL
Your MSL\SPC
Micro USB cable
And as always… a hot GF to cheer you up..
Ohh and a Windows PC
FAQ
Who is this guide for?
-People with flashed phones who want to update to their latest carrier PRL.
-I have seen some custom ROMs with the “update” menu removed, this takes out the ability to update OTA the PRL.
Why?
Updating the PRL by using the Epic’s software will not work most of the cases if you have a flashed phone. According to wireless carriers is recommended to update the PRL at least once a month to have the better reception possible.
Whats a “PRL”?
The Preferred Roaming List, this file tells your phone which towers to connect to or in what order. If you have a 1 year old PRL and a new cell phone tower was just installed outside your house 2 months ago, is most likely your phone is not getting the best reception possible.
Whats the meaning of life?

GUIDE
Getting your SPC\MSL
There is many possible ways to get your MSL for your Epic 4g.
1. If you still a Sprint customer you can call Sprint and ask for the MSL of your Epic, this is the most easy way to get it but not all CS representatives will give you the code.
2. Search and install “ConnectBot” from the Android Market, open the app, in the small dropdown box on the bottom left that says “SSH”, click and select “local” instead and on the “nickname” box put “Android” and hit Enter. On the new black screen with the “$” type “getprop ril.MSL”, you will get your 6 digit code, if that doesn’t work, reboot the device and try again. If it still doesn’t work type only “getprop” in this case you will get a very large command output scroll up and down and look where it says {ril.MSL}: {xxxxxx} the 6 digit number is your MSL
3. By using ADB, send “adb shell getprop ril.MSL” or “adb shell getprop” if the 2nd command is used you will need to look for the {ril.MSL} output
Getting the latest X PRL
You are on your own here, but as for 03-23-11, the latest PRLs are
Sprint\Boost: 60677
Verizon: 52189
Metropcs: 2013
Cricket: ????
Alltel : ????
Depending on what carrier you are on, PRLs might be different depending on your localization, please research or google “latest x PRL”. The extension of the file is *.prl. Download and save it on your desktop. I have only attached the latest Sprint PRL
* please let me know if you have are aware of a newer PRL..thanks!!
Updating the PRL
Once you know your MSL, you need to download and install the program QPST 2.7 Build 323, it might be possible to use another version of the program but this guide was made using version 2.7 b323. QPST is not a paid program but is intended for developers, providers and maintenance technicians, according x-drivers.com the software is “freeware”.
1. google, download and install QPST 2.7 Build 323.
2. google, download and install the Samsung Galaxy S Drivers
2.5 Make sure your Epic is not USB debugging mode, to disable, go to settings>applications>development>uncheck USB debugging
3. On your Epic, with the touchscreen dialer, dial ##8778#, this will open the “PhoneUtil” hidden menu
4. Change on both the UART and the USB menus, to MODEM and hit home.
5. Connect your phone to your computer with the usb cable, select “charging” if the select USB mode menu opens.
6. Your computer will automatically install the modem drivers for your Epic wait until you see the “device is ready for use”
7. Open QPST Configurations. Start>All Programs> QPST> QPST Configuration.
8. Click on the “Ports” tab and “Add a new port”
9. Select the “COMXX – USB\QC Diagnostic” and click ok, in my case the port number was 10, your port number will be different, if you see more than one, disconnect all your external devices such as external HDDs, phones, Bluetooth dongles, ect. If you don’t see a port. Disconnect your phone, restart your computer, connect your phone and try again, you might want to remember your Epic’s port number for future use.
10. Click “Start Clients” on the top of the program and open Service programming.
11. On the new Phone Selection windows you should see one active phone that starts with FFA6550-ZRF6500, select it and click ok.
12. Click “Read from the phone” and enter your 6-digit MSL code
13. Click on the “Roam” tab and click the “Browse…” button, here you will need to browse for the PRL you downloaded earlier, select it and open it.
14. Click “Write to Phone”
15. Your Epic will reboot and you can close all the programs now. On your phone go to settings>about phone>status> and make sure the PRL version matches the PRL number you downloaded, if yes, Congratulations you all done!!
16. Don’t forget to change back the USB settings ONLY back to PDA on the ##8778# menu
SPECIAL NOTES
For Sprint: As you might know, Sprint users can roam to Verizon’s network. if you are on a crappy Sprint coverage but a better Verizon one, you might want to try and upload a Verizon PRL to your phone, please be aware that Sprint might end your contract if roam a lot, such cases are not rare. Sprint might also charge you for roaming.. I have never heard of such cases but you might be the first one.
UPDATE: USERS HAVE SUGGESTED TO USE THE APP "ROAM CONTROL"
NOTE!!!!! SPRINT ALREADY TERMINATED THE CONTRACT OF A XDA USER FOR "ROAMING A LOT"
..supposedly, no ETF is charged..hint hint..wink wink..
For Metropcs\Cricket: Make sure you have downloaded the latest EVDO\1x PRL for metro, Metropcs uses AWS in New York and Las Vegas. You don’t want the AWS (non-EVDO) PRL in your Epic because you wont get any signal.
For ALL users: You might not notice any changes if you update your PRL and no new towers were installed or upgraded in your area.
new PRL: 60675 in second post
60676 now out too

Thats because of your rom... an alternate method to using that menu is to do this...
-Make sure you have the standard Epic 4g device drivers installed.
-Plug in your phone to your computer. When prompted to choose between "Charging", "mass storage", and "tethered modem", choose "tethered modem"... then choose "3g modem".
... your computer will then see it on a COM port.

When setting up USB to MODEM mode, your phone will show up in the device manager under Ports (COM & LPT) as “Samsung Mobile Diagnostic Serial Port (WDM)” and NOT as an adb device.
Which windows version are you using? Did you tried disconnecting your phone and restarting both your phone and your computer?

I get to the step before Service Programming, than I see a phone number that is not mine under the phone, but the FFA code is identical to yours. Is that supposed to be the case?
Oh, and it didn't ask me for my MSL code when I clicked service programming. Unless I am supposed to put it in under the settings tab < codes < service programming.....

verizon towers will be preferred. If you go to a zone where there is no verizon coverage it will "roam" into Sprint towers..
Sprint and Verizon Wireless have a reciprocal data roaming agreement.

uncheck "USB debugging" in the settings>applications> development> munu in your epic.
COM4 is your Epic's modem port, try adding COM4 even though it says "unknown" and enable it if its disabled in the "Ports" tab.
if it still says no "no phone" restart your computer..
I have successfully manually updated my prl in windows 7 64 but and windows xp pro 32 bit

the phone number that you see there is really your "MIN" not your phone number..dont worry about it
the "FFA code" is identical in all Epics..I believe this is the type of qualcomm chip inside all Epic's

Is a PRL file the same across different phone OS's? I would like to check out various PRL's on my phone, not just the newest. I had really good luck with 60659 on my TP2 (WinMo). Would that "work" on my Epic? Not asking if it would be better, just asking if its the same file format.
If so, is there any site that has different PRLs for different carriers?
Thanks
So I was playing the the options for getting my PRL and I noticed that I get a different number when doing "getprop ril.MSL" than I get when looking at the prl through settings. However, prl.MSL matches the prl in settings. They are both six digit numbers, and my prl is 60671, but ril is very different. What is ril?

Figured I'd post my experience with this.
Worked ok and I updated my PRL to 60659. Worked fine. Couple of side notes. You need to uncheck USB debugging in <Settings><Applications><Development> on the phone. Also, when adding the new port in step 9 you need to make sure you uncheck "Show Serial and USB/QC Diagnostic ports only". My computer showed COM3, COM6 and COM7. I added each. Only COM6 showed as having a phone so I deleted the others.
In the end, my reception didn't seem any better with my former favorite PRL, 60659 so I went ahead and used the regular phone process to update the PRL and it did so back to 60674. I am using Midnight ROM v2.3 EXT4.
Now I know how to do it if I decide to.

[HW MOD] 3G for my Mobii Adventure

Hi all,
A few days ago i opened my POV Mobii (another version of the vega) because i wanted to see why the non 3G version has no 3G.
At this point, my journey started.
Facts:
* Advent Vega = POV Mobii Tegra = Smartbook Smartsurfer 360
* The Advent Vega lacks of the antennas and the simcardslot/PCIe slot
* A unknown subset of the POV Mobii Tegra without 3G are also missing this parts, the other subset not.
* The Smartbook Smartsurfer 360 has all this parts + HUWAI EM770W miniPCI card 3g modem
* Sadly the Simcardreader/mPCIe module has no name, but it seems to be a standard part (see picture below, backside is hidden by a antistatic black plastic), someone needs to search through the electronic sites to hopefully find that. See the link below.
* the antennas are a normal 3g main and 3g aux, definitive standard parts which maybe not fit perfectly into the case and need improvisation(there's enough space), but will work
* The Ericsson f3507g is not working because... nope the mbm driver are there... but the ril-daemon is missing
Working 3G devices
* HUAWEI EM770W 3G is working(as i know useable for EU) (thx to malamut81) http://cgi.ebay.com/New-UNLOCKED-HU...323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a623613b3
* Ericsson F3307G 3G is working(as i know useable for US) (thx to ParanoidSPV) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150514109325&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3134wt_905

TODO's:
* Fixing whatever does not work

Expectations:
* Easy and cheap upgrade of Advent Vega and POV Mobii Tegra for a fully 3g functionality

wait so the slot is a standared mini MPIe?
there was some talk in the Modaco forum that it was non standard
On the MoDaCo forum, user BakedBeans managed to get a 3G USB Dongle working on a MoDaCo Cutom ROM. (Actuallt official Advent firmware with the MoDaCo Custom ROM Add-On r7).
He had to go through some steps to get it to work. Here's what he posted:
I have a working, surfing conection via an Huawei E220 3G dongle on my Vega.
Details:
1. Installed theMoDaCo Custom ROM for the Advent Vega r7
2. Enabled USB Host Mode (USB Mode --> USB Host (required reboot)
3. Inserted the Huawei E220 USB Dongle (mine was a t-mobile PAYG dongle)
4. If USB Host Mode is enabled, the dongle will flash green, then blue
*Interesting bit*:
5a. Go to Settings --> Accounts & Sync --> Add Account
5b. Select 'Google'
5b. Hold down the back button (the physical button) for 2-5 seconds until a 'Wireless Settings' icon appears at the bottom of the screen
5c. Select 'Wireless Settings'
5d. Select '3G Service enabled'
5e. Select 'Data enabled'
5f. Select 'Network Operators' ... You may need to wait 10-30 seconds as the Vega configures itself to read the USB dongle, makes a connection and identifies what providers are available... the light on my USB Dongle went solid blue at this point (if I recall correctly)
5g. Choose your network operator
5h. The Vega notification bar will change to show a "3G" icon, which is animated to show upload/download action; and a signal strenth icon.
6. Ensure WiFi is off and surf to a website... In my case, I got the t-mobile top-up page, which showed me my dongle's phone number and the fact that I had no further credit on my account.
When you unplug the dongle, the notification bar will change to a red triable for 'No Service: Selected network unavailable).
At this point I don't know whether this is chewing my battery or not when not connected.. as the "No Service" notification does not go away, even though I've disabled '3G Service'.
This is my first post here, so if I've posted in the wrong please, let me know and I'll happily move it.
Cheers,
BB.

EDIT:
Where did you find the SIM slot?
Is it inside, cause it's definitely not on the outside on my Point of View Mobii TEGRA Tablet 10.2" (or PoV Mobii, as I call it... )
With the mpcie device in, the mobile network settings appears in the wireless settings, so there's no trick needed to come there.
my problem is, when it initialized the modem and effective searches for networks, it changes shortly the signal strength like it would switch from emergency call all networks mode to dialed into network mode and fall back out of the network immediate. the same simcard is working in my htc desire. so my suppose is, that there is a problem reading the data from the simcard or routing it to the modem.
Kind Regards
Have you unchecked to pin thingy?
It may be it's trying to validate the pin number, so I suggest to deactivate the pin verification in SIM.
hope it helps.
ps. was it difficult to insert the 3g module into the device?
Wow!
Didin't know that!
If you head on over to the MoDaCo forums and do a search (left bottom of the page) for smartsurfer, you'll find 2 topics about a version of this device with a 3G pre-installed...
At some point the firmware for it was posted too, but had to be taken down (before I got it)...
Maybe you can manage to find it somewhere...?
EDIT:
It seems like the Smartsurfer comes with a Huawei EM770W WWAN 3G HSPA mobile broadband module installed...
the pin is disabled.
no inserting the 3g card was really easy... look at the picture. the slot is easily reachable. when you compare the picture with http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-vega-vega-modaco-com/324250/vega-internals/
the marked place is what you see on my photo, you see... no problem
thanks for the hint with the other firmware... i'll search for it
edit: I'll put all relevant infos into the top

update concerning the simcardreader, lok at the top
i asked a workmate of mine, wich is a really good electronican. maybe he can tell us what kind of interface the left one is. maybe it's possible to find something simmilar and with a bit soldering...
concerning my 3g modem...
D/MobileDataStateTracker( 1081): default Received state= DISCONNECTED, old= CONNECTING, reason= simLoaded, apnTypeList= default,supl
not much information, how do i get logcat to give me deeper messages?
Hi,
the one with the firmware for the smartbook surfer was me.
If anyone still needs it, i can reupload it to a filehoster.
Only last time i had uploaded it on our company server, this hadn`t been such a good idea
Re the SIM card reader

http://oc.ebid.net/for-sale/huawei-em770-em770w-3g-wwan-mini-pci-e-card-hsdpa-gps-36009392.htm
no soldering needed
the same wifi attenna from a laptop can be used and should be found fairly cheaply
thats only a simcardreader, but the module(above second picture) includes also the mpcie slot. the vegas are missing this whole module.
I know it only a sim reader. Its to be used in conjunction with a HSPDA MPcie card
the vega lacks the SIM card slot as well as the antenna
My plan is to purchaes the Huwai EM770W the SIM reader and a laptop wifi antenna, I have opend my vega and there is more then enough room.
This wont be for a couple of weeks though I shall report back
windin, it won't work , because you don't even have a mini-pcie-port! The port and the sim reader are BOTH located on a proprietary add-in-card(that's whats being referred to as "the sim card reader" in this particular thread) and mounted next to the microphone.
So, if your tablet doesn't have the SIM reader, it won't have mpcie either.

according to the specs on ebay it should work in EU with NO problem.
for those who are adventurous and want to add GPS they might want this instead:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Wireless-Mobile-Broadband-Module/dp/B002ZYZYUU
its an Ericsson board doing a quick google but don't know which version as i haven't dug around.
the thing is as mentioned the vega misses the sim card reader that connects to the "spare port" (with a cable) which is used on 3g enabled variants for that "generic" reader. it would be amazing if that could be purchased to do a cheap upgrade.
but i also found this and it looks interesting,
http://cgi.ebay.ie/HSPA-WWAN-mobile...opAccessories_PCMCIACards&hash=item3366d7318c
and wondering if someone with huge electronic experiance would be able to connect that and make a wire to do something shown below?
http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=card_sb2c07.jpg
the Dell 5530 / Ericsson F3507g is not working on the Vega however it apparently does work on the Adam
I have reached the limit of what I know about Android, I would love to be able to utilize the F3507g in the Vega does anyone know if it would be possible to port across the files from the Adam to get it working? the F3307 I nicked to test from a friends laptop
I have managed to get the F3307g working internal after identifying the pin out of the camera as detailed in this thread

Showstopper is the small electronic board with the SIM card reader on it.
This is the interface between the MPCIE 3G modems and the main board of the Vega/ Mobii / Viewsonic / ... tablet.
This electronic board cannot be purchased anywhere.
In case you got a Mobii with the SIM reader, but without the 3G modem, you can upgrade.
In case you have a device without the SIM reader you are on a dead end. Then you can only add a USB 3G stick.
3g parts
I spoke with a chinese friend and he will send me all 3g parts form my vega directly from the factory. I will inform you when i will receive them.
?
How about external 3G USB Dongles?
I have played and tweaked about 11 models, but never managed to get internet connection (altough the blue led "conected" did light up on on the modem).
Did any of you had any luck using an external 3G USB Modem on the VegaComb 3.2?

whatsapp messages delayed only on my home wifi

hello im having a big probelm and need help!
i tried many things to do and nothing works.
Let me explain all the things I've learned. First of all, the problem only occurs on my home wireless network and not at other locations. Sometimes whem someone wants to send me a message I get it delayied between two to 30 minutes. This does not happen when I'm a regular Internet connection. In addition, when i open the app it takes it about 30 seconds to connect and to start sending the messages i tayped message (message waiting with a form of alarm).
I checked the problem in six different phones and it occurs on evrey android that i tried (S2 S3), but not on iphones.
I redefined the home network, I changed my router and modem and still nothing has changed (but not the companies that give me this servises)
All Android-based mobile I use experienced this problem so there is no issue with the device itself or the application download.

Given the scenario you have given;-
1) Your phone works fine for WhatsApp everywhere else
2) Other phones have problems with WhatsApp at your home
3) You've changed the network, router and modem
There is only one possible cause - your ISP must be throttling the WhatsApp data stream for some reason.
You didn't say what happens if you use your device on a different wifi network.

I took that to mean it worked fine on other WiFi networks. Maybe I shouldn't have made that assumption.

If all the other statements are correct then the only thing left which could cause the problem is his ISP - whether it is deliberate throttling or not is a different matter.
didnt work
i changed the company, which is my isp, to another one yestarday - didnt work
the thing is that i noticed that it is not only whatsapp that delayed, but evrey app - facebook email.......
so the problem is not specific with whatsapp, but the all push serives
on over networks he works fine, when i had an iphone (until 3 weeks ago) this never happend
i dont know what to d' and im geting crazyyyyyy

no only at my homenetwork
It's clearly a networking issue, and my prime suspect is your router's settings.
Do this for a trial: Completely erase all settings in your router (hold down the reset button for 10 seconds, or whatever). Then do just the bare minimum setup in the router's settings, no password, no IP reservation, no port forwarding, no nothing. Then, see if the problem persists.

Yeah, something's fishy. I'm guessing he swapped his physical router for another one, but set up all kinds of routing features which are messing with his phone.
If he comes back and says he's only got 1 computer and 1 phone, and never changed any settings but the SSID and added WPA, then I'm out of ideas.

hi
first of all i didnt do any configuring with the router exepat a pasword
at first i used what the company calles a HOTBOks (the name of the internet company is hot) it is a a device which is a phone line + modem + router
i thougt maybe the problem came from there, so i canceld the built in wiifii any did it "private" by conacting to a EDIMAX router - only put the CD install ps and thats it - didnt work
i changed the ISP for my home - still didnt work....
at my gf house, she has the same hotbok and no problems whatsoever.....
Take your hotboks or router to your girlfriend's house, and see if your phone works there. If not, then the problem is in your house/router.
i dont think it is posibble to do that......
i have no idea what to do - only going back to the very limited world of iphone bahhhh
My money's on your gateway/router being the source of the problem.

Flash Moto G (boost) for use on PagePlus/Selectel

Hi All,
So I have some info that will hopefully be useful and I also need some help. I am specifically trying to flash the Boost Moto G for use on Seletel.
I have updated with current Selectel PRL (actually tried several), and have updated with my MDN and MIN. Phone just says searching for service. Any suggestions, tips, or success stories? Thanks!!
Here is some Info that is known but sort of spread all over the internet.
Boost Moto G (XT3031)
-The bootloader is unlockable via Motorola Website https://motorola-global-portal.cust...e/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/action/auth
- Root works, I used superboot via this guide: http://www.modaco.com/topic/366771-root-your-moto-g-option-1-superboot/
- You can get your SPL/MSL from boost. Some have reported just calling them and asking working. Also they just give it to you on the last page of their activation via the boost website.
- if you need PRL's or other info, this thread by Viper32 has some great info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270191&page=7
any help would be greatly appreciated. And thanks to everyone else who has been working on these things!
Thanks!
-Cedar
outside the obvious have you updated your MEID with selectel?
what did you use to set your PRL, MDN, MIN?
How did you your get MSL code? From what I've read calling them or the activation method don't work anymore. The SPCUtility app works, though I have my doubts about why it needs network access to do so.

its whats on my main selectel phone and works fine. but I also tried several others, none of them have worked.
-------
MDN and MIN
I'm using what my selectel dealer gave me when I activated a new account for the moto g
-------
MSL
I got the MSL code from boost, they gave it on the last page of their web activation process
It works fine, I can edit settings on the phone with CDMA workshop and DFS
thanks for the reply
DIAG driver help
Would you mind share how you install the DIAG driver? I installed the MDM, but it doesnot install the driver once the phone is in DIAG mode. My OS is win7 64x. Any idea will be really appreciated. Thanks.

This worked for me also on windows7 64x. sorry for the delay in response been at work.
after you have MDM installed
make sure USB Debug is enabled on phone
boot phone to fastboot
-turn off phone
-hold vol down + pwr buttons and phone should boot into fastboot
select BP Tools from list
-phone should reboot
plug it back into your computer, if it isn't already, windows should try and install more drivers, but will fail.
go to devise manager
-right click on Motorola QC Diag
-manually update drivers
-browse for drivers on computer
-select driver from list
-manufacturer Motorola
-Motorola QC Diag Port
this should get things working, you can also change the COM port form the driver properties in the devise manager if you need to.
hope this works and is clear, I'm getting ready for work so a bit rushed. let me know if you need more info.

When I try to get MSL by activatting the phone through boost in the last page without paying for it, my phone has been activated, and assigned a phone number. If you got your MSL in this way, your esn might have been set in boost database. You may call boost to deactivate your phone and release your esn. Hopefully it helps.

yeah you can get to DIAG mode with ##DIAG# as well. bit easier for sure if you already have your MSL.
yeah I was wondering if that might be a problem, but it seems like I would at least be getting some service bars from verizon towers. also after boost activated it, I activated it with selectel and they had no problems. I think that would auto deactivate the ESN with boost.....at least that's how its worked for me in the past.
but thats a good thought, thanks!
I changed some settings around and now I'm getting bars for service but my phone says "No Service". same thing if I try and make a call "Mobile Network Unavailable"
I checked to Selectel and my phone number is active and attached to this phones ESN.
any suggestions?

Good luck with data-- the boost variant has the HA and AAA key field locked down/read-only, so you're never going to get anything above 1x. No matter the password or the SPC code, those nv items are not able to be altered except OTA... at least for now.
Interesting, I haven't really messed with it yet. Others report getting 3g to work on the boost version just fine. But like I said I haven't messed with it

Let me know what you figure out with data. I know it can be done. I'm thinking of picking one up to mess around with. I wouldn't mind paying someone to flash but as much as I swap around phones I'd go broke. Rather just buy the instructions for the more tricky parts.

3g is working great now. getting good speeds and its not intermittent at all. for some reason when I only had 1x working it was super intermittent.
anyway I've been hesitant to write a "guide" because this is the first phone I've flashed and I definitely did a lot of trial and error. there are some steps where I foolishly changed several settings at once, and admittedly have no idea if they all needed to be changed or if just one of them made the difference.
also its still not 100%, I haven't gotten MMS or viocemail notification to work. haha. I'm using the apk from @Viper32 in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270191 for voicemail notification but it never worked for me. and I just downloaded 8sms from the play store and changed the settings, but still no MMS, even when not connected to wifi. so I'll have to mess with those things later.
anyway I didn't use a donor phone for data. the only programs I used where trial versions of cdma workshop, dfs, and qpst. I think the step that did the trick for 3g was using qpst to write 10.key to a new folder called DMU.
1.connect phone in diag mode to your computer
2.open qpst configuration, make sure your phone port is there and phone is active.
3. open efs explorer from the start clients menu
4.on the Left side of the efs explorer. right click and go to new > directory
5. name the directory "DMU" without the quotation marks then
6. place the 10.key file into that directory by drag and drop then exit qpst
i think those are the steps that gave me 3g after everything else was flashed but maybe others have more info!
thanks
cedar
for MMS have you tried verizon's app from the app store? I initially used it and tested MMS and it worked.
I changed the apn settings under ##data## and then tried the stock messaging app for MMS and it worked.
MMSC = http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Port = 80
Proxy = null
as for voicemail notice. it doesn't work and I don't think its going to work. i think this has something to do with some of the system sprint firmware and differences in the voicemail notification message sent between sprint and verizon networks.
I use youmail app from the app store for voicemail.
I'm having some trouble getting better than 1xRTT data after trying the 10.key into DMU folder trick.
Do you mind posting some of your NAM/Data/Mobile IP tabs from DFS? (with private info crossed out)
Would like to understand if the options I have on/off/selected are in the ball park.
Here are my settings to achieve 1xRTT

I purchased Galaxy 5G Mobile Wi-Fi SCR01 router from Japan, my SIM supports 5G and we have coverage of 5G network all over the place in my country.
I have entered the correct APN and currently can only get 4G connection.
I can access the "service mode" but I need you to help me to get 5G working. I really appreciate your help.

The modem that is not connecting to 5G, always on 4G while my SIM card is 5G.
It should connect to 5G as shown in the pic below, but things need to be changed in Service Mode.
I just need to be guided where to go in Service Mode and what to select/change. I am available for your instructions and can provide any screenshots you might be needed. I just want to enable 5G signal.
Is it because this router was made for the Japanese market and therefore uses CDMA? I don't know really!
Just cancel the list restriction in service mode, and then reboot

My friend, I really don't know how to thank you, it worked as you said. I was struggling for about a month and was thinking to sell or return the router, but I think now I will keep it.
If you have any other tricks to make this router performs at its best it would be great.
Many thanks

There is no way to root this phone, so there is no way to improve performance. I just use it as a mifi. If you want to use a proxy, you can download everproxy to set the ip. I actually have some software that locks the bands, if you don't have them, you can download and use them. Here is the link:download. That's all, I wish you a happy use.And if you are able to root this device in the future, please be sure to contact me again~
@molexs the main purpose of having this router is for mifi usage only and I don't have any plan to root it, but locking to a specific band might be useful but I don't know how to install apps on the device, is it straight forward?

First of all, you need to install a launcher for your device to use the Android system. Install the Nova launcher APK through ADB and make it the default launcher. After entering the Nova launcher, I believe you should know how to install APK.
I have the same problem - it won't connect to 5G. But I am unable to use the solution that is described in this thread because I don't know how to access the Service Mode for this device, as it has no dialing field, or some other field where I can put in a code to access Service Mode. Is there anyone here that can help me, please?

First, click the menu->about->status on the main interface, and quickly click "phone number" 10 times. Then you will enter the DRP mode. At this time, enter "* # 0011 #" to enter the service mode. If you have any questions, you can contact me again
Hi, and thanks a lot! So far, so good. I have now accessed the Service Mode, but - as a very inexperienced man regarding these matters - I don't know what to select in Service Mode for accessing the list setting, and what to do about than when "list settings" occurs on the menu. Can you please guide me by hand to the solution?
Or more precisely: How to find "list restrictions"? And how to cancel them? And please, I think I need a step by step guide for the process of beeing able to get 5G!

Well, it's very simple. In the service mode interface, click the menu in the upper right corner, click "back", and then click "key input" to enter "Q". After several seconds, the main menu will automatically enter. Click UE setting - setting - protocol - NR - allow list control - then select "off", and 5g has been unlocked. However, you need to click "nr5g SA / NSA mode control" again and select "SA / NSA enable". After restarting the device, you will find that 5g can be used.
Thanks a lot again! I think I have placed the "Q" correctly. But which "main manu" will so appear? The Service Mode main menu? If so, I could not find the "UE setting" to be clicked, and so on. I am so sorry for me being so inexperienced but I would be very glad to be guided again, please!

You need to click "back" once, then click the key input to enter "Q", wait for a few seconds, the following menu will appear, and then follow the steps I said before.
