Glossy plastic needs to die already! - General Topics

My god, who made the design choices in smartphones these days? has no one told manufacturers that glossy plastic looks cheap? whats wrong with matte? The nexus s, galaxy s, samsung lte , atrix 4g all look like toys :/ , the xperia arc designed is kinda ruined by that cheap back cover, it even has "sparkles" , i think samsung REALLY got it right with the infuse 4g , i hope they stick to that design for the galaxy s II , the droid bionic back is kinda nice too, what do you think guys do your like your gadgets glossy?

Couldn't agree more! Glossy, fingerprint magnet plastic needs to go.
The Nexus S has a nice form to it and i like that it's all black...but why does it have to be glossy?

The Samsung Omnia 7 uses metal, even though it is probably heavier than the Focus, it looks and probably feels nicer.
Yes, that is one of my pet peeve with smartphones and I refuse to use cases. I like the finish that HTC uses on their smartphone. I prefer metal over plastic despite the extra weight.

To think, a phone released back in late 2009 (the HD2) really paved the way for this. Though you have to consider cost as a factor as well. Having matte/rubber finish and whatnot will undoubtedly cost more than just a plastic cover.

metal is pretty unrealistic, very few phones use it, it be content with a back cover like the one i posted -infuse 4g-

I am content with the back of Dell Venue Pro. Can't get a fingerprint on it.
Pretty sure companies use glossy plastic because people like shiny stuff. The cheap feeling just throws me off.

Black Silicone Case

I've just ordered one. Looks really good! Very inexpensive too.

Even though its silicone, this case actually looks as if it was made to accomodate the Desire, especially with it's protruding chin
Let us know how it fits and whether it's worth the punt
Just bought one, for £1.99 its worth a go. I'm not gonna use it all the time, just when i'm goin out
It looks ok, however i'm a little unsure as to whether or not the design will effect the pressing of the Home, Menu, Back and Search buttons as it appears the silicone covers the actual buttons.
Just my luck, I paid £3.59 and they've put the price down since!
I was worried about the buttons being covered also, but it looks well thought out:
You'll have to let us know if the trackpad is still accessible...there's a hole in the case for it but will the thickness of the silicone impede on trackpad usage.
Seen a slight scratch on the paintwork and my gel case is too thick for pouch. may have to get one. in fact for £2 may as well.
Oh snap!! Never knew they had screen protector as well. cheap ones i got are ok but are tricky to apply. Hopefully its the same quality as my ipod touch and diamond 2
That's kind of what I need but not exactly, I wish it didn't cover up the physical buttons.
If anyone finds a clear silicone case which doesn't cover the bottom front part (where the physical buttons are), please let us know!
Although, I might get this one for now because I don't like my Desire being "naked".
Cheers for the heads up, can't go wrong at £1.99
can't really complain about the price but it's a bit difficult to tell whether or not it's really chunky, or slim like the Nexus One covers that people have been getting to fit.
Ordered the 2 pack with the screen protectors
Granted it will take 2-3 weeks to get here...$10 for a deal like that is pretty good

Usable armband?

Could anyone suggest subject?

Friend of mine ordered the smaller version of the tunebelt and he's ecstatic over it. He's been through a couple too.
My wife loves her tunebelt, not too expensive on amazon either.

Thanks for reply guys!
I was looking at the same model.
AlgorithmX, because you have it, could you comment on quality and usability. I need this thing mostly for sports. It's kind of difficult to judge on picture. Does touch still works through that plastic? How it holds moisture? And how good is velcro?
I posted in the Vibrant and i9000 forums, but I got the larger version of the Tune Belt. It fits with my phone still inside it's TPU case which is what I was looking for. I think the smaller version would be too tight if you want to keep it in your case.
If you have above average sized biceps, you will need the extension as the band is one of the shorter ones I've seen, but luckily the extension is very cheap and works well.
Here are some pics.

Thanks for good pictures!
No hole for a headphones cord?
And how do I know what is bigger/smaller version? I have only thin silicone on my phone and do not want to take it off every time.

The headphone cord comes out of the flap at the top. I can take a picture later, but it's the same open you slide the phone into, so there's plenty of room.
The model numbers tell you if it's the smaller one or larger one. As you can see in my pics, my phone has a TPU case on it and fits very well inside the armband.
AB82 = Smaller
AB83 = Larger
Finally got my paws on it and used it for a while.
IMHO, this armband is useless for sports. It is like a sponge!
I got bigger version and it fits the phone in the silicon case. However seams inside do not allow plastic to touch the screen, so it's pretty difficult to control phone on the run.

I'm assuming you're talking about the TuneBelt right? If so, it's neoprene. While it may "retain" sweat/moisture, it shouldn't absorb it, neoprene is basically sweat proof. It "retains" some of it temporarily, because the material is breathable (which you definitely want) I have the smaller ab82 that I used with my Touch Pro, and I can tell you from using it at the gym a bunch, if you check it a few hours later, it should be bone dry again as the sweat evaporates out of it, doesn't leave it gross or smelly, etc. Wetsuits are made out of the same material for this sorta reason.
As for the seams on the screen.. ya it looked that way in the pictures above. Still, looks to be the only good solution out currently for phones as big as ours.

I have one too. So far so good, though I didn't use the screen protector that came with it.
Is there a docking cradle that works with this case? I bought the one recommended by Samsung (EDD-D200BEGSTD) but it doesn't fit at all. There's a ridge in front of the USB connector that pushes up against the keyboard. I don't think it would fit even with the case off...
you mind posting links to cases that fit well?
i didn't get a case for the new cell so far since i always had trouble with them falling off when sliding the keyboard in and out after a while or didn't really fitting at all.
but if there's one that you ppl could recommend... my new electronic toy could use a lil extra protection
Case/cover.
I'm trying to find that case in UK as from us it will be about £20 !
Does anyone know where to buy it in UK or any online site but cheaper.
If not I will go for it as need to protect my precious (still waiting to be delivered).
Can anybody post some photos of that case as even on google pictures they not show it cover fully unit.
Or maybe someone have any alternative?
Regards
Mac
UPDATE
I just bought SA-321
http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartp...alpro-hard-shell-case-with-silicone-core.html
And even found discount code 20% less !
So I am happy now, no need to buy screen protector even.
Looks pretty good honestly, I may get one of those feather cases.

(If you want to buy one there, you may want to use the coupon code "inc20" - saves you 20%.) (expired)
Just ordered the SA-321 for my wife's Relay. Btw, the coupon code no longer is active.
I have just received an SA-321 case. It's of very good quality and I like the rubbery-but-not-too-much feeling of it. Compared to the SA-316, it covers the power and volume buttons. It makes the power button a lot easier to press and the slide-out mechanism feels somewhat more solid.
I like it a lot.
Agree. Though a bit pricey, my wife fell in love with it instantly. Great feel, good protection, and looks great too.:good:

[Q] Help with UAG Casing

Hey guys I recently bought a UAG casing for my S5 online, and I realized that it doesn't really fit? I'm not sure but it looks like the casing isn't wide enough for the phone or something. Alot of times it feels liek the phone is "popping out" in a bad way, and I can see the gold trim around the phone too.
Do you think I bought a fake one? Cos it's very tough to remove the phone from the casing too and I can hear the creaks and feels like the phone is gonna bend or something!

It depends on where u bought it online? I have a clear one and right now prefer it over a ballistic case and a spigen slim armor cs case. Fits perfectly, and the phone is secure in it. It can be a little tough removing the case, but I prefer it that way... :good:
Mine fits perfectly in my case. It is a little hard to get out, but that it because it fits so perfectly. You shouldn't see any gaps or even any part of the bezel. I have seen a lot of fake UAG cases where they are, for lack of a better term, "warped" and don't fit snuggly, leaving gaps around the bezel. I would be a little concerned that you got a fake one. Where did you buy it? Also, the pics posted aren't coming up on my end to look at it.

Accessories Galaxy Watch 4 TPU case Hands-on

Please find the hands-on video of a generic tpu case for the Watch 4. Let me know if you need to know something, always here to help!
Hi. Is there a case like Verilux ® Storage Box Compatible with Apple Watch for Galaxy Watch 4

From the looks of it, this itself can be used for the Watch 4 because it doesn't have any equipment in it. Just slots to put in your own stuff!
Looks like a good possibility... but someone needs to try it!
My god, this thing is fugly !

I tried it and it didn't work. The Galaxy charger dial is larger in size than Apple and this box is designed for Apple. So it didn't fit. Even by force.
Luckily I could return on Amazon and got refund.
I have used the black sided ones (so you dont even notice theyre there) since the Active 2, and now just got a set for the Watch 4.
They are the great protection and cheap..... AUD$18 for like 4 of them
Best thing to buy is the Spigen rugged armor pro casing. Doesn't add fugly trash around the watch, it creates a completely new look and is rock solid. Doing mud/obstacle runs with it and hell yes, I'm really beating it.... having some protective glass could be helpful as well, but this kind of ugly watch condom is a joke

Looks terrible, completely covers everything and doesnt add any bulks, most people wouldnt notice it
But that sucks, right?
vs, this, at 7 times the price and no face protection:
you were saying something about a joke?
