[THEME] Generation X Theme port for DI14 Mesmerize - Samsung Mesmerize

With permission from D3StRoY & R64 and lots of help from nitsuj17, I've been able to port the Generation X theme from the I9000 to the Mesmerize. The original theme post is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898892
I'm still working on a few more tweaks to put into it, but I feel that this is a good starting point for a 1.0 base. I'm learning to work more deeply into the files now so there is more that I can do with this.
Features that this version includes:
Generation X wallpaper, boot animation, and boot sound
Accurate battery mod during discharge
Fixed colors for the menus, white on black (they were black on black)
Fixed colors for sub menus (some were showing up blue)
Features that I'm working on:
Accurate battery mod during charge (only shows 2 icons while charging right now)
Remove clock from status bar for people who use clock widget
Add Reboot, Recovery, and Download options to Phone options screen
Possibly work on icons for home screen
Here are some pics:
Just in case people are wondering, I'm using Beautiful Widgets Home Weather for the clock/weather, ADW EX for my home and ADW Black Glass icon pack, or ADW Elegant icon pack. These may be different for you, causing a different effect.
Wallpaper from wallpaper pack.

Download the zip and put it on your sdcard.

Flash the zip from recovery.
Wipe Dalvik.
Reset Battery Stats.
Reboot.

This theme is nice but not really my taste, thanks though. Just curious, how would you go about adding the reboot options into the rom, and is that something I could do to my own phone? I'm using the modded Revolution theme. That would be very useful if you could help me get that.

I definitely understand not everyone's taste in themes is the same. That's why I'm trying to add to my skill level and port more over so we have more to choose from. As far as adding in the reboot options yourself, that depends on your skill level. It requires decompiling a stock framework-res.apk, changing some xml code, adding the png files, editing some smali code, recompiling the framework-res.apk, then decompiling the android.policy to change some code in the smali code to match the changes you made in the framework-res.apk file, then recompiling it and putting everything back on your phone. If that sounds like something you are on par to do, I can send you the code to edit. If not, I'll be working on a couple of versions that people can flash. Some integrated into the themes, and others that will be using stock images to flash if they aren't. Unfortunately, since it uses the framework-res.apk, if you are using a theme I can't guarantee that it won't mess your theme up because that's where a lot of the png's reside.

Neon Transparent Clock skin and looks like Simply Beautiful Weather Skin for the Beautiful Widget ..
Looks just like mine. I am taking a small break from flashing for the week. But will check out soon ..

Hey, any way you can port this to the Showcase for the CS crew? Anything we can get is VERY appreciated.
EDIT: MY HALF AWAKE A$$ DIDN'T SCROLL DOWN THIS SECTION FAR ENOUGH TO SEE YOU HAD ALREADY DONE IT... LOL.

I like this a lot. My only gripe is that the text is really thin, I would really like it if it could be maybe a different font or a Seminole version of this one.

How about changing them to something you like?

When I tried some of those font packs before they seemed to start making my app names and web browser title things have like the little squares where the font doesn't have a compatible symbol with whatever is typed, except there are no weird symbols that are supposed to be there.

Wow, this theme (which works perfectly, btw) is great! Combined with the adequate launcher EX's nexus theme, I love the way my phone looks now. Thank you to everyone involved in porting this over and making it possible!

Thanks. I still have some work to do on it to be completely satisfied with it myself, but it's my favorite port so far. Glad you like it.
BTW, how's the accurate battery mod working for you on this theme?

battery mod works great for me, matches my system info widget. the charging bettery definitely needs to be expanded from the 2 images though lol

As shown below, changing the font makes toast notifications look bad... e.g. the toast doesn't size correctly, making the font not fit into it. Not a big deal, maybe something to mess with for an update.

[REQUEST](very sexy theme)Matted Blues Theme Ported from the Fascinate

Was surfing around on Deviant Art for Beautiful Widget themes when I came across this theme and I thought it would look really sexy on our Hero's! So if anyone want's to give a shot at porting it that would be very cool! I'm going to try to port it myself and will post links if I'm successful. Also please try to port it to AOSP mainly or both AOSP and CM6 if you wish. Thanks and good luck, enjoy!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834208
P.S.
The screenshots on the post I linked it from don't do it much justice so here is the link to the Deviant Art post with a higher resolution screenshot but there's only 1 however it will do the trick.
http://elderblood.deviantart.com/art/Matted-blues-theme-screenshot-187023903
This has been changed!!
my bad guys yeah ASimmons I was reffering to your theme porter that is what I used. Um I ended up porting a different theme instead of this one from the samsung fascinate.
Here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847674
everything ported very well even the transparency in overlay menus etc the only things that didnt come through were a couple of icons on the main screen menu where you can add widgets or change the wallpaper or goto the settings.. also the status bar text is black and thats the same color as the bar so you cant see the time etc..
Thanks to RetroKid for the theme here is the name of it. [Theme] Ultimate Incognito/Minimal Matte Remix ~DJ05~ ~V2.2~ [Update 12/4/10]
Here are screenshots of it ported and running on my phone.
http://img97.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=screen1dy.png
I will still try to port the matted blues theme I will work on it again later and report back.. thanks guys for all the feedback. I will post a thread on the rom forum with this Ultimate Incognito / Minimal Matte Remix theme from RetroKid enjoy! And watch for the thread!
P.S.
I will also port this theme to the CM6 latest stable. And will also post on the current thread.
please someone bring this over to our phones. especially for the nightlies on CM =D
The real problem is the .9.pngs. I can resize them but I would have to do it like one or so at a time to make sure I had the correct sizes.
Well I'm gtting ready to try my port right now i'll let you all know how it went! I made 2 different ports using 2 different techniques..

CHA-CHING! I did it ! Well one of my ports was quite successful. I'm gonna poke around a little bit more and make sure everything is perfection. Then I will upload it to a couple places and post it up on the forum!
well unfortunately some things didnt take like the settings icons and some things are about the right size and some things are a little too small.. kinda odd seeing as how the script resizes all the .9.png's at the same percentage reduction... lol. hmm

Was wondering if you were reffering to the theme injector script?
If so I can help in tweaking it, and the 9.png don't get resized by percentage, they get resized to its mdpi match. Since its not a perfect system sometimes there or differences in say a themed stat icon from hdpi to mdpi and shrinking it to an mdpi size results in distortion.
Non 9 patch get shrunk to 66% regards less of a match or not since this is the official difference in hdpi to mdpi size.

I was able to inject the theme into cm6.1. I used your HDPI to MDPI converter. It looks pretty good. I noticed a few things like the symbol on the bottom of the pulldown notification was squished and some of the pressed highlights did not flow all the way across the menu. None of the apps seemed to be themed. The system menu was not themed. I dont think the dialer was themed. But overall it still looked fine. I would like to see a full port to the Hero. This is one of the better themes and our phones deserve it. I would post screen shots but that rom is not running on my system at the moment.
A little off topic, but I was wondering what was used to get whats circled?
I've seen this on a couple themes and was wondering what it was.

Disable voodoo lagfix if you have it installed. ***This is a safety precaution.****
Reboot into recovery and do a backup. I am not responsible for anything that you do to your phones. Although this has been tested and appears to be running fine. You are all masters of your own destiny.
Flash from recovery.
Go to advanced and wipe Dalvik and battery stats.
Reboot.
This reboot will take an extra long time because you wiped Dalvik cache. This is normal. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes. If it takes longer than 5, pull your battery, use three button method to get back into recovery and restore using your backup. (This is where disabling voodoo saves your butt.)

[Theme] -2.1.A.0.435- 'Suave Green' (Beta)

Ok, I'm finally posting a beta of my 1st theme. I have lots of time constraints so release/updates may be slower than others, but hopefully worth it. Also won't be doing any other version than 2.1.A.0.435 for now for the same reason, but I may if this goes over pretty well.

Bootscreen & Analog Click Widget
Wallpaper (will add to a 'pack' & delete image when there's more)
I have redone most of the animated .png's "from scratch" in Photoshop, including the 120+ battery icons, the spinners, "Connecting" call icon, downloads, etc. as well as a LOT of the static icons and .9.png's. So these icons will be unique to this theme unless someone likes them and ports them to another (feel free themers, but please give credit!). Bootscreen is from the interweb (sorry, I forget) & is not the ideal resolution but really "matches"...
Feel free to add suggestions or let me know what I missed or what you'd like to see.

I have never even looked inside a 2.2 'rom' so I don't know how hard porting it will be but I have kept my images organized so hopefully it won't be too bad. I will definitely look into it once I have the 2.1 more complete.

First off, HOLY CRAP!!! Sir, nice theme.
And I don't think just because this is a green theme that makes it similar to the greenglow theme. This one has a more metallic look, and it's very polished and professional (not knocking greenglow here, it looks great as well).
And I think he thought you simply forgot to add a screen cap of your lockscreen, but it seems you are redoing it.
As for 2.2, I am using Free X10 and I've opened it up, the framework-res.apk looks very similar to 2.1, but the names of all the images are different, Sony renamed everything for their ROM, so you can copy/paste many of the images, but you will have to rename them all... considering how many there are... it will most likely take some time. As for the phone and messenger and some other apks, those will a little reworking, because they are slightly different from the Sony versions (mostly the messenger).
I would love to see a 2.2 port, because I am really impressed with this.
However, may I suggest perhaps changing the notification pull-down background, the chain link looks nice, but it seems a little busy and doesn't seem to fit the rest of the theme all too well, maybe a transparent dark green brushed metal look, something similar to the default background. But it's really just personal opinion here. I don't know if this is possible, because the background is usually tiled, maybe just a solid, transparent, dark green.
As for names, I suck at naming things, lol... But I get an industrial feel from this... maybe "Industrial Green", or "Industrial Hunter".
Keep it up, this looks beautiful.
The name
Hi there!
Even if I do not use the theme, you (who made it) deserve congrats. It is well made, beautiful and posh. As I have and love my luster white x10, some colors seem not to match it. Its is personal, I know. I would love having a brown/golden theme, or even a Violet one.
Again, congrats.
By the way it is, I would call it """THE CHLOROPHYLL""""
@bleached45: Thanks for the compliments, suggestions, and insight into 2.2. I may try to enlist some help to port it if it's too much... would definitely like to let you guys try it!
As for the notification pull-down, it is definitely out of place, I made it and have been using it because I like the way it looks in motion kind of a novelty.
maybe just a solid, transparent, dark green.

I have one like this already made for this theme! Will most likely release w/that.
I am also playing with doing a "perforated metal" pulldown.
I'll have to start a theme add-ons thread (maybe just 2nd post..) for the more "adventurous" stuff
@igoroak:
Thanks, I may look into doing different color variations if possible.
Cheers.

I think you should call it
'Biotic theme'
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions & kind words.
I thought of a possible name too: Suave Green. What do you think?
Thought I could get done before work but no go. Hopefully I can post it up late tonight/ tomorrow morning.

That would be nice. Even nicer if you'd show me how to do it. I know I could search but hey if you know an easy way, that would save me some time in the future. I'm a "teach a man to fish" kind of guy.

Sense Theme: "Sense and Sensibility" [v .1]

Sense and Sensibility Alpha
Alright guys, here it is! This is an ALPHA version of a theme called "Sense and Sensibility." This isn't just to look like sense. The graphics were taken directly from stock sense.
TAKE NOTE: Tested on CM7. SHOULD work on most ROMS but who knows. So BACKUP!
Instructions:
1. Boot into CWM
2. BACKUP
3. Flash SenseSensibility.zip
4. Reboot/Rejoice
Any requests for things to be themed (sense-styled of course) can be made and most likely will be implemented considering I've never owned a Sense phone and don't know what is themed where.
I'd love if someone could tell me where I could change the color of the text in the menu button popup.
Downloads:
v .1: Click me
Themed things:
Header of lists (settings, messaging, etc)
Tabs (dialer etc)
Long press homescreen popup
Power off menu popup
Battery
Checkboxes
Menu button
Selection (turns a nice green) (pictured)
Loading animation popup (spinning circle)
Text box/text box highlight
Send button (SMS)
Text selectors
LOTS MORE (If I forgot any, let me know)
Things to look forward to:
Status bar
Fix menubutton background to make text readable
Dialer!
Widgets?
Make it more Sense-like.

Yeah haha. It's in alpha stage and it's mostly minor enhancements (so far). I also themed when you press down to select something. The major things I'd like to incorporate are a sense dock and lockscreen. These are mostly UI tweaks.
****. im learning. I'm basically taking a sense ROM and porting (copy paste ) the GUI. I'm working on it and just wanted to share what I have so far.
keep at it bro you'll get it...
I see what you did there... "add sensibility to dictionary?" made me lol. But anyways nice theme I like the ginger-sense mix especially all the dark gingerbread with the light greys of sense

I would love some help. You can flash it and see for yourself, but when you hit the menu button the text of the menu popup cant be read because the menu background is too bright. Do you know I can change the font colour of the menu popup? Haha. Either that or i'll have to edit every menu icon in photoshop and add a title below it
You want to look in framework-res/res/values/colors.xml...you will see the colors for various text, whether its bright or dim text, set against bright or dark background. Remember though, unless you made the change to the textApearance values already, then the background color you would consider will be what it still thinks it is. So my guess would be, maybe dim_foreground_dark

Do I have to decompile the apk to edit the xml files? if not how do I edit them. Notepad's a no go ):

Crap. Im not much for decompiling.
Mr Hat,
I tried this theme with TWO different ROMS (Faux AOSP 1.3.1 and Weapon G2X 2.5)
The after flashing the theme in Recovery and rebooting, I got stuck in the bootloader screen-loop in both roms.
Luckily, I read your instruction and made a backup. Anything else I can try? Do you have a ROM that you recommend other that what I'm using.
First of all, Weapon is a rom based on 2.3.3...this theme is not for that rom. I suggest you do some more reading on the different android versions and the impact on choices of roms, kernels, themes, etc.

Hey man, I recommend you browse this a bit. It goes way in depth to theming.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814
Decompiling is really easy if you use a GUI like APK Manager, and I use EditPad lite for xml files. Good luck with it; I got burnt out on theming quickly.
i like how poeple are quick to flame you and then they read your post then have to edit. keep up your work. look forward to how this develops.

Thank you for the heads up. I guess I didn't do enough homework.
Mind sharing which ROM you're using? Or maybe toss out a couple ideas? It'd be much appreciated.
Of someone can send me a thorough set of screenshots of what Sense looks like in most aspects of the ui, I will make something happen. Pm me when you have something for me, and I'll give an email to send it.

Blegh, development is probably gonna be slow/might not come. I need to focus on my academics.

Working on octane framework theme..

Question is: anybody using octane that is interested? maybe some collaboration?
Btw: I started this as just a learning experience, not to Kang any of raver's awesome work.
Pretty much, I'm just interested in playing with the systemui.apk and framework-res.apk, so if anyone has some cool tips or knows of a good tutorial, feel free to chime in.

Hey bro, I've been kind of doing the same thing. I've taken icons I like (That all flow together, too) from a bunch of different ROMs, and a few other fun things. Hit me up by PM if you want to collab and see what we can come up with!
I've been more or less trying to theme octane more like his BSGS
PS Friggin LOVE your wallpaper... I had the same one all last week! XD!!

Or you do you mean the app icons?
Sounds great guys. I've been working third shift this weekend and a bunch of crap, sorry. I have some ideas that I've been wanting to draw out, I'll update soon.. Hmm now I probably won't sleep tonight!

Word. I'm working on getting the MIUI icons now.
So far I've got:
-Audiophile sound tweaks
-BSGS4g Pull down notification background (Transparent, I like it more lol)
-Almost all notification icons are blue themed (Excluding app notifications)
-Both ADW and ICS launchers pre loaded
-Debloated (A bit more ;p)
-Tegrak profile pre loaded in SD - 1.2ghz OC with UV settings, for anyone who favors tegrak
-Wifi files from the official release. I can't say 100% if its a big difference, but it seems such so far, I normally get ~2-3 bars in my room, and now I have like 4-5. Needs testing.
Not that I'm trying to build a new ROM out of it, just playing, customizing, tinkering... you know ;P
I haven't really found a set of icons from MIUI that I like much yet... you guys want just the plain white icons??
I did find these though
You can add some dimension to the bars in the pulldown which will really make it pop and be unique. Theme looks incredible!
doeblerdan,
Could you possibly post the blue splash wallpaper pictured in that photo? I know its stock with some ROMs, but i switched to a new one recently and its not avaikabke anymore and I'm really missing it!

I'm just opening it in 7zip and playing with things ;P
Most of what you see on your screen is held in SystemUI.apk and Framework-res.apk (Not including most app icons/images, theyre in the app's APKs)
So do I open framework.apk and SystemUI.apk with 7zip and then push them back in?

You could. What I've been doing is extracting the drawables, working with them, then putting them back into the apks.
New pics of where I am at so far... If anyone wants a copy of where I am at the moment to try it out, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a DL link. Itd be nice to get some input from other users to see where I can go next with it ;P
Also if anyone knows how to change the background color of the menu that pops up, for instance when you are on your home screen and hit the menu button, could you please let me know? XD Right now its like a gray, and the letters are almost unreadable =X
EDIT: Uploaded NEW screenshots. mms, dialer, switched to older ICS and colored it all, app icons, etc etc etc.
New updates =)
So far:
-Changed almost every single system icon
-Themed almost every stock app icon
-Themed MMS app
-Colored ICS launcher blue (Everything!)
-Changed Dialer numbers to blue (more visible IMO)
-Themed the pattern lock a bit
-SOME lockscreen theming
-Changed the dropdown notification background(Also transparent), will be changing the text to a nice blue soon.
-Its almost entirely blue/black/white
What needs to be done:
-Menu background coloring (as you can see its grey, with grey lettering, eww) If anyone know an easy way to fix this let me know. So far every method I've tried ends with failure and me getting a new keyboard after bashing my head off of it.
-Dropdown notification text color
-Probably more locker based theme work coming up...
Anything else you guys would like to see in here??
