I have a LG Optimus T(P509) with t-mobile & I know when rooting wha the basic features are but there not that great to me because over locking seems dangerous, disabling ads not a big deal, & they say grant super user access but besides make back-ups & moving apps & cache to sd card. Is there anything GOOD thts worth rooting?

YES! Rooting allows you to usually load custom themes on your phone! Usually (at least with the Droid X) you cannot easily load custom themes and modify any part of the android OS or apps without having root access...
that's my take anyways... The ability to re-theme, remove unwanted software, and add apps with better functionality is almost always worth it. If you don't do a lot of tinkering with your phone.. I recommend not to root, as it can cause problems if not used wisely.
Also rooting allows you to upgrade to roms that might not be available for your phone. Said roms can improve phone speed and cpu accessibility and if you know what you're doing will allow you to install radios that can greatly improve signal strength

Thnx for the replies but I think I will NOT root for now. Mostly because of fear. I'm not a noob at software or a genius but like I've jailbroken my ipt2g on every firmware up to 4.0 & like I know some of the crashing problems tht u sometimes encounter with that & I don't wanna deal with tht with my phone cuz a phon is more important than a ipod. But thnx for the replys tho. I'm still going think on it tho

I think the Z4 root app will work on the optimus-t. Its pretty fool proof as long as you know how to download an app and press a button .
I say you root and decide if its worth it. Thats the only way to know.

Backup your apps with TITANIUM BACKUP and flash back to stock. Then I would install the sre.

you can follow all the steps to root your phone and reset and blablabla...
or you can wait for the software fix, which nobody knows when to come or nobody can guarantee to work.
or you can wait for 2.2, which is supposed to be faster but you never know.
or you can exchange for another phone and probably have the same problem.

I wouldn't mind playing the waiting game if just a couple of bugs. But what's a smart phone if it doesn't can't handled being used. I figured it was something I did cause the phone didn't always freeze like this. Is this the lag people are talking about?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Do a reset. However don't use Titanium Backup to restore system data. It will funk stuff up a lot of the time.

I had the same issues, first get rid off any task killer app you have. Second download the One Click Lag Fix app. These steps increased my phones speed drastically. You can also use a program called Autostarts to control which apps load at boot. To do the last to tips, I believe your phone had to be rooted.

Did you install Auto Killer?
Back before this nice app we had to use a script at boot to change the settings this app now does. Y'all got in on Android when it was getting easy to do everything. I had to root by cmd prompt and use a list of commands now we have one click rooters. I am kinda jealous.

You definitely don't need an app killer. Eclair is set up to kill apps when memory is needed. I find things to be buggy when I use an app killer. Use launcher pro. Much smoother than touch whiz. Root with SRE. When all the att crap is gone the phone functions like it should have out of the box even if you disable the OC. Lagfix is optional but doing all these things really makes the phone fly

Sorry, I should have mentioned I am not rooted. Going to try Auto Task Killer
I use Task Manager, very similar to Auto Task Killer
Task managers are counter productive on Android.

I am not real comfortable with any of the process's yet. I tried one click and was never able to move off of the Desire (no sound) ROM, so I returned the phone and go another one. I come from a Captivate that I Rooted hundreds of times, with no incident. So hopefuly a more automated version will come out to Root the Inspire

Don't mean to derail but I wouldnt bet on any easier methods. The
rom must be downgraded to root.

If you're holding out for a root method for the Inspire that is as true "one-click" as the captivate, you'll be waiting indefinitely.
There are fundamental differences between the two phones in terms of root-ability.
Seriously, the inspire is completely rootable. Your inspire is no less rootable than mine was or any others who have had success.
If the root process fails for you, it is because you overlooked something. Bubbys tool, along with Zonderion's video, produced a rooted phone, with fully functioning sound, for me, and many others.
Having TiBU functioning and able to remove bloat was the primary reason I wanted to root. You will never truly and completely be free of the bloat unless you root.
A properly-made gold card is CRITICAL (format FAT32, allocation size = 32KB).
Having JUST the drivers, without HTCSync installed, "safely removing hardware" (unmounting) the card before switching the USB mode, and basically giving it the chance to do its work, even if it seems like its taking too long, are all things (among others) that need to happen in order for the process to properly complete.
Zonderion's video, if you replicate the actions you see him doing EXACTLY, even down to the way he formats the SD card, will work for you, assuming you starting from a fresh phone.
The only thing I did different than him was use a 4gb card instead of an 8gb card.

I am attempting to root my sisters captivate and install cm7. How do I get z4root installed onto the phone.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
At the risk of sounding like an ass, if you can't root the phone you sure dont need to try flashing cm7. It's a VERY difficult, multi step process where one tinymistake will soft brick your phone.
You don't need to root first in order to flash different roms.
Also, are you sure your sister wants cm7? She'll lose divx playback, 720p, hardware noise cancellation, and some other samsung specific things..

You don't sound like an ass I get that part. I am just unfamiliar with how to get it rooted easily I would've been doing it at her place away from my computer and was hoping there was a easy one click way to root her phone. I am familiar enough with android to flash the rom. Just not with the stupid att no side loafing apps policy

If that's the case, I'd probably just stick to one of the 2.2 roms in the dev section here. Calls will sound better with Cog 4.3, simply because of the hardware noise cancellation. They also include the Swype keyboard by default, which CM7 does not.
Ok i was wondering if rooting the phone would get around my gf paying the 15$ like i do with my myTouch, with using a native program? I know theres an alternative, WiFi tether, but is that blocked too? She already has a granfathered unlimited data plan. Let me know I'm not too sure about Samsung & At&t

I am like 99.9% sure that the infuse and refuse roms have wifi hotspot enabled by default so you don't have to change your plan. You might want to search in that forum to be 100% as Im sure someone has asked already

did the search for ya, it was answered and yes its enable without adding the tethering plan, enjoy!!!

otherwise you SHOULD be able to use titanium backup to freeze the tethering manager apk. not entirely sure what the exact name of it is, but you need to disable that to let the built in tethering work (and to stop at&t from detecting some third party program tethering)
or yeah, you can install a custom rom (which already removed this little bit of at&t bloatware)
edit: tethermanger0326.apk is the apk (or something close to that)
Of course, after you do this, be careful with your usage patterns otherwise the Tether Police will still catch you.
Ok is there like a stock rom that's rooted & has those features? She's new to Android & loves the touchwiz. I'm an HTC guy so I'm not sure. I'm trying to keep it simple for her with the stock feel?

Do you/she want a new rom? Because the easiest and quickest way is to do the above mentioned of downloading titanium back up (paid version) snd freezing the tethermanager apk. Super simple and quick. Less work than doing the rom route... good luck.

No she doesn't, she doesn't wanna change anything but to get around shelling out 15$ for hotspot like I do on my myTouch. But don't you need to be rooted to freeze apps in titanium? Or could I root it, download Superuser & then do it?

well not quite. Just remember that if there ever is a system update she'll have to unfreeze that app for the update to work (then freeze it again to get tethering to work once more)
glad that it worked

Stock ROM, I assume? Personally I don't use it, but if I did, the first things to go would be anything from AT&T. I don't use the email apps so I would get rid of those including Exchange app. I would then make a nandroid and then remove anything else that I didn't want/use one by one, rebooting in between each to see if the phone will still function correctly without. Then if there's problems you could just restore the nandroid with a lesson learned.
That being said, in ICS, you can disable many of the system apps in Settings->Apps->All. Just select the app you don't want and when the App Info page comes up, just select the Disable option.
You don't want to approach this haphazardly if you don't know what you're doing. Though I've never heard of someone bricking their phone by debloating their device but it can cause problems if you're not careful. Trial and error is a great teacher if you pay attention to how removing the apps affects the phone. A lot of them have no effect on the basic functions of the phone. If you have anymore questions about this or get into trouble in the process, just post here.
One more thing. Good luck and have fun!
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
I suggest not removing anything. But looking at list of safe apps to remove & not removing them. But freezing them 1 at a time & making sure you didn't bork anything. Make a NanDroid 1st!
Too slow a typer.
Remove all those moto Chinese input.. If ure not Chinese of course.. Email app obviously you'll use gmail.. Like me..I use Xperia input.. So I'll remove aosp keyboard.. And default launcher because I use droid ultra launcher.. It depends.. Just back up first.. Though if u r non at&t.. I suggest jb leak 3..
