Is there an app similar to MS Word like on the WinMo phones? I used word mobile almost daily for work on my Fuze. Now I have to find something to take its place. It doesn't have to use the .doc extension, just have to be able to type up documents on the go.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found an app. It's just kind of a pain in the @ss.

Search for "office" on the market. There are a couple pay appear that look pretty nice.

There are a couple in the works but not free...atleast I have not seen a free one. Here is an example: OfficeSuite Pro which can be found in the market. Not trying to spam anything but simply pointing in a direction to answer your question which is yes there are some android apps that work word files and such.

All I see is little android guy with paperclip.
Why is it that so many things that should work out of the box on this phone requires a forum post? Maybe I'm just slow today.
Did you install the free office viewer? Search captivate in the market.

Quickoffice for Captivate.
I tried that.
But thanks for your post I gave it another go, and now, I have found my issue: .... the email attachment I used for my experiment was a PPTX and it doesn't recognize it ... only PPT
I re-did the experiment with a PPT attachment and it is fine.

You can download the free (read-only) version of Documents To Go app. This one supports PPTX. The QuickOffice app leaves a lot to be desired by it gives you capability to edit office docs as well as PDF viewing for free. So I had both on my phone.
Occassionally lately I have been receiving texts that are labelled "browser message" and contain a long string of numbers and letters as the body. Here is an example of the latest one in its entirety:
"010606ae8d01c9b4840105030045c6080c03622e77617070757368008703776170636c69636b2f2f6d612f333136313731372f363333373535393434000103415426542046726565205469703a20596f752063616e20636865636b20796f757220766f69636520706c616e206d696e757465732075736564202620736d73206d657373616765732073656e742077697468204d79204163636f756e742e20436c69636b204f7468657220746f207472792e20546f20656e6420546970732073656e642073746f7020746f2036383431000101"
Is this trying to remotely activate something or something? My Captivate is fully stock, all downloads from the market and are popular well-rated apps, no visitation of porn sites (that I know of) or other questionable websites, or even "blank links" that I have noticed. This is really bugging me that there is some sort of malware on my phone, although I don't see how there could be. If anyone on here is wiser than I am on these issues, could they please let me know what they heck these are, should I be worried, and what I can do...
Thanks to anyone who can advise me...

It appears to be a text message from AT&T about your plan minutes used. At least a quick conversion from hex to text looks something like this:
"... AT&T Free T ...plan minutes used ...ccount. Click Other to t..."
Do you have some sort of notifications turned on with your account? Hopefully they aren't spam trying to get you to click somewhere.
Oh whew, okay good. Yes I my parents had that on the account, and when I separated my line it probably stayed on there. Thanks for converting it like that, can I ask how you did it, what program or software you used? I'm not completely a NOOB but I don't know anything about hex. Plus I would like to translate them in the future. I run Ubuntu, so if you know the name or the ppa of a good conversion tool that would be awesome.
Thanks again for converting that and responding!

I was using Notepad++ on my work Windows box. As for a similar Linux program, you could probably use gvim or maybe Okteta if you're using KDE. I just pasted and converted.
Okay, cool thanks. I am using GNOME, so gedit I guess. For the actual conversion I see several scripts and complicated commands, as well as some ASCII and multiple conversion programs, I will just experiment and figure out which works best. Thanks for your help with this.

I Have Four App Suggestions For Any Developers Willing To Take On Any Of The Projects!!
{Suggestion #1}.... Is A App That Can Be Run To Fix Parse Issues Sometimes Associated With Installation Of Apps, And If It Can Fix The Parse Issue, Specify Why!
{Suggestion #2}.... Is A App That Basically Asks Where On The SDCard (Or If Possible, Even Desktop) You Would Like The Current App To Be Installed, Similar To A Desktop Computer, Which Gives The Option To Choose Exact Folder/Desktop Location!!
{Suggestion #3}.... Might Be Reaching On This One, Lol!! But....
It's A Request For A App That That Makes Apps, It Would Basically Have "SIMPLE" Hooked On Phonix Options, For How Or What The User Would Like To Create!! Like I Said Probably Reaching Huh? Lol!!
& Finally Probably The One I'm Hoping For The Most....
{Suggestion #4}.... This Suggestion Is For More Options In The XDA App It Self, Such As.... The Ability To Bookmark Forum Page, Directly Return To The Last Page ( After Closing App), Upload Apps/Scripts Directly From Phone ( Instead of Home Computer), Edit Profile (Pictures), & Also Fried Request!!
Hopefully Someone Will Like At Least One Of These Ideas And Try To Bring It To Life...
Also.... I'd Like To Give A Quick Thanx To All The Developers!!

I'm not a developer, but in response to number 4. The XDA app is actually built off another app named Tapatalk Pro. The folks at Tapatalk Pro made this app special for us XDA users.
If you want a feature added, I would suggest contacting them. Best of luck on the rest!

Maybe reaching a bit if you want to create apps on your phone. Google has a tool called App Inventor that will help you create apps in a web browser on your computer:
http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/
What you are looking for is often called Rapid Application Development, or RAD. Searching for Android RAD doesn't help much, but it does show that there are other people looking for Android RAD.

Can Somebody try the app out on the transformer? And is it optimized for honeycomb?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Ive read in reviews there is alread an app on the tablet pre installed that is compatible with google docs
It is not optimised for tablets, essentially it's just the website in a browser window.
greetz
Thanks for the notice on this new application. From the comments on the market it doesn't look like it is optimized for tablets, but I'm interested to hear from current Transformer owners on how it functions.
Talks about the pre installed one here http://www.anandtech.com/show/4277/asus-eee-pad-transformer-review/8

"If you supply your Google login credentials you can edit/save documents stored in the cloud."
Excellent.
I wouldn't say excellent. Google Docs is much more than storage. I hope Google will fix the Android browser to be able to work with Google Docs without any apps. Dual booting Google Chrome OS would be great too.

It is indeed just opening the docs up in a browser. At first I had a login issue because it hadn't passed authentication yet and I briefly saw the Google Docs mobile login site on it. It has the exact same functionality as if you had opened the Doc up in the browser. It's just a pretty interface to the Google Docs site
Just tried it on my eee pad. It works fine but as stated before it's not optimised layout-wise for honeycomb. Does what its meant to do though.
With the Google Docs app, you can take pictures of text and have it converted to an editable document. My question if anyone has tried it yet is this.......If you take a picture with text AND a picture, does it import the pic also?
I get my Transformer in the a.m. tomorrow, and if no one can answer this, I will try it when I get a chance and follow-up, in case anyone else is interested.

Most of these guys are kind of slow. There is an actual app that is not via the browser. I'm not sure if its optimized for HC but my guess is yes, why wouldn't they make it for all platforms. I used it today on my EVO so I'm positive it works on HC.
Yea it's a application in the market. I hope that's what people are responding about. Also the app works well on my g2 for whatever that's worth.

Could not find a way to edit existing docs - no edit button, while newly created and saved document can be edited. Also was able to edit spreadsheet loaded before

I think the confusion is that the front end of the Google docs app where you browse your docs is NOT from the web, it's an actual UI from the app itself. However, once you start viewing a doc or editing it, you are then basically thrown back into the mobile Google Docs webpage, which has very limited functionality.
What I'm saying is, don't expect it to replace a dedicated Office suite anytime soon...
I think on tablets Google Docs should work without problems in browser. That it does not right now shows that the browsers are very limited and similar web apps won't work neither.
I recently started using instapaper and I love it. I think there is a great need for instapaper official android app! It has an iphone official app. There are a few unofficial instapaper apps but I don't think they are comprehensive.
I used to email links to myself...I Sony do that anymore due to instapaper.
Im interested in hearing how many of you use instapaper and if you would like an official app for it.

As much as I like Instapaper, I love readitlater more and it has an official app on most platforms. Works in very much the same way.
Yea. +1 on Readitlater... it and Beautiful Widgets and XDA are the only apps I've paid for.

Thanks guys for recommending Readitlater. Just downloaded it and this is actually what I wanted. Im still trying to figure out a couple of features. How do you download an article for offline use on your cell?
Its a great app and I love it. However, I think it should have the option of creating 'new folders' to organize your bookmarks/articles. Hope this would be included in the updates.
Overall great app.
Install the applet from readitlater.com on your browser's toolbar and just click on it to save the page to your queue.

Sorry. Lol. I completely misread your question the first time. Once you open your reading list, long press on the article you want, and select download.

Is anybody aware of an android instapaper client that uses volume key scrolling?
use 'read it later' ...much better than instapaper.
+1 to the instapaper/readitlater client request.
not one instapaper / readitlater client has the following 3 (essential) features
-volume key scrolling
-full screen
-full sync
There is definitely a gap for a quality client here, especially if somebody integrates functionality from ebook readers (#WHY-HASNT-THIS-BEEN-DONE), such as
-touch to scroll
-glide to change font (see moon reader)
-glide to change brightness (see moon reader)
-text format options
-fixed orientation
-remember location in each article
I have to say that i am very surprised no one has made a top quality client, and no reason that it couldn't sync to either readitlater or instapaper
Dev's - on your marks, set - GO!!!!
ps the best solution i have come up with is to export my instapaper reading list to epub and read in moon reader
any news on this?
is there any ereader-app that can automatically import my unread items/reading list, so i can read them properly on my ebook-reader (rooted nook touch)... can't find a satisfying solution
