Has anyone managed to root this version yet? If so, any idea where I can find a guide?
I'm kind of new to this and don't want to screw up my phone so thought I'd ask here to be safe.

If i upgrade my htc legend (not rooted) from android 2.1 to 2.2 via the official vodafone release, will i still be able to root the android 2.2 htc legend so that i can install custom roms?

Yes. The usual one click methods used for rooting 2.1 seem to work fine for 2.2. The updated 2.2.1 is more picky but most people are finding the SuperOneClick root works for them.

I just got a Samsung gem and it is currently running 2.1 need help rooting and installing 2.2. If you know of any programs or know of any site that can help I would be very grateful.

Sadness, no one has replied yet. I have one of these phones too and I want to be able to root it too. I really don't know how to root it or create a method to do it nor create or cook a rom. Let's hope someone does it soon.
I have this phone too. I have tried many ways to root this phone and none has work thus far. Methods I tried are z4root, SuperOneClick, and Universal Androot.
none of these methods works for the samsung gem running on eclair... i am unsure of the one running Froyo on US Cellular tho

I've tried both. Z4root doesn't work and superoneclick doesn't give permanent root. I've been able to root w/ superoneclick and somehow the root disappears randomly without even being rebooted.
Same thing happens to me with superoneclick root.
And unless you have a CellularOne version of the Gem, you don't want to install Android 2.2 from the Samsung site. It will break the Market and it also makes the 3G fail intermittently.
Yes u can put 2.2 on gem goto Samsung site for update like I did months ago
Samsung.Com then I have ntelos so I used generic ruu update and gem much better faster gps works too

which version of soc did you use? someone just gave me a gem to root for them and im about to try it now. i'll let you know how i did it, even if i have to do it myself via sdk.
edit: the gem i have is running 2.1 update 1, i used superoneclick version 2.1.1 (at the bottom of the thread in attached files) it went off without a hitch.
My Glacier has ROOTED capabilities (for the most part) but it is saying s=on i can only run 3 types for ROMS Cyanogen/Miui/Beastv.x Can ANYONE HELP PLEASE!! I've tried it ALL

No i did unlockers method of rooting with visionary and such....and idk how my phone is UNROOTED but i cannot get back to stock the only [ROMS] that work are CM7 base [ROMS] im sooo stuck its not even funny anymore!
You might need to make a Gold Card, then run a stock RUU rom update for you phone...
Could anyone possibly send me links or tell me how I could root my huawei fusion? I've tried superoneclick and no root. Gingerbreak and no root and I can't flash it to Clockwork either. Can anyone give me some help?

Same here i´ve tried everything founded on google and some forums and still can root my device.
it wasn´t that hard on my X8.
I just bought one at Walmart, my other phone crapped out, Gingerbreak is not working on this one, its got Gingerbread 2.3.5, Help would be appreciated

you can unlock it via htcdev and then use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275 to root it.
