FroyoSense Defy edition (progress report) (new: youtube video) - Defy Android Development

Preview of Defy running Sense 2.0 (android 2.2)
I will probably get a DEFY soon, and am thinking of porting my milestone release of MotoFroyoSense for this model..
so the question is, if there is any interest in having Sense on DEFY?
it will probably lack the Bluetooth functionality, as the handling is too hard to port for milestone hardware. but otherwise check the milestone thread, you get more details there...
I guess the Rosie launcher reload totally dissappear here, when we got 512MB memory to work with, which should help out.
i don't know partition sizes, so how much space is free on the different partitions depends on the layout, Sense was a 400MB+ release on htc desire Z
update: 23-jan-2011
I got hold of a defy, and managed so far to get it ported, so phone + wifi works...
its based on the 2.2 kernel (chinese kernel) + HTC DesireZ
ill keep this updated until its ready for release...
update: 23-jan-2011 update2
I read that defy do not normally get 2000+ in quadrant scores, so i thought i would make a brief preview of the startup + really quick slider of menu + benchmarking.

My guess is that it would make many people happy (although personally I need bluetooth).
On http://simply-android.com/ HandlerExploit published this partition table:

Sense on defy would be awesome. Hope that you will do the trick and port it, and i think many other people would appreciate this too.

That will be insanely good if it ever works stable. Very interested in having more languages too.

- so defy suffers the same problem as milestone stock fw? only uk, france, etc? 4-5 langs?
- what about radio/baseband drivers, are those also an issue for users? would one image require patching with different baseband drivers? (havent followed defy threads much yet)
anyways ill find out in a weeks time i think...
When i got something stable running, ill probably post it, if i find it acceptable..

Great news. Keep us posted.

Sense on the defy is not for me, but any new Dev on the scene is good

I don't have a Defy either but the essentials I can glean are:
- The same folder on the Milestone and Defy is responsible for whether the 3G bands match the hardware or not. There is a "3GFix" floating around that aligns the device either with the radio files from an 850/AWS/2100 or 900/2100 Defy as appropriate, and can be used after flashing with a "wrong-radio" SBF.
- There is a nandroid backup now floating around which corresponds to the Chinese 2.2 firmware - however it's highly Blurred and de-Googled (kind of the opposite of what everyone seems to want around here!). In any case, this provides you with a 2.2 kernel to work around.
I think that FroyoSense for Defy would be great - *but* - what many people here would love to see first is a fully functional, de-Blurred, properly-Googled 2.2 ROM. Either as close to stock as possible, or Cyanogen-style, or maybe even "NinjaBlur" since it's relatively unobtrusive. If you can perfect that first, you'll get a lot of gratitude I'm sure =)

Would love Sense runnin' on the Defy.
Will Sensen then work properly on the Defy? I mean without jerking etc?
Sense is by far the best Android interface!

? don't defy come with a 2.2 kernel and MotoBlur? i must read up on the defy.. i thought defy kernel and Blur was similar to the Milestone2 edition?
but making a clean google edition from droid phone should be an easy one?
I think i will first try out my goal, which is sense (dare not say the easy ones like stock android is no fun )

read my MotoFroyoSense thread. I think becides BT, it was a nice port, if you ignore the rosie reload that was a major due to only 256MB memory.

Can you keep the music player on the stock moto defy? that would be great

The Defy comes with only 2.1 Eclair (plus Blur)! The only version that has been released with 2.2 so far is in China but that ROM is pretty messed up.

based on my 1yr with milestone + hearing all ms users discuss it, i doubt it will ever come true, as the locking mechanism is in the hardware and needs physical board changes to break the fuse.
unless the RSA key is found found this one as its currently been running on milestone to find the key, but when is the q.

And the US Droid doesnt have this locking mechanism in the hardware?

no. RSA is disabled and fuse is not enabled.
i think it had to do with Google was too quick getting the model out on the market.

as i understand the IRC discussions, its not in the nand they need to fix anything in, its the omap chipset which offers the protection, so writing to the nand is not an issue, but writing the right encryption key is.

Finding out the amount of RAM installed in the phone?

As a 101% of you guys already know the HTC Magic/Sapphire is available in (at least) two versions with different amounts of RAM (192 MB and 288 MB, respectivly). I have a Vodafone-branded Magic, supposedly equipped with the lesser amount of RAM.
How do I verify this using just the phone? I have installed a term-application allowing me to get a shell prompt. Using this, I've copied the /proc/meminfo file to my memorycard and retrieved it to my computer using FTP. These are the first two rows from the file:
MemTotal: 98920 kB
MemFree: 3300 kB
The first figure seems unreliable, though - I have a hard time imagining that there's just 98920 / 1024 = 96.6 MB RAM installed in my phone.
Can someone please tell me how to really check how much RAM is installed in an un-rooted Android-phone?
If you read the wiki, as well as every second thread around here.. the answer is:
32a - 288Mb
32b - 192Mb
.. it's as simple as that.

You checked it right, almost all the missing memory (from the 192 mb) is occupied by:
The kernel itself
The shared memory (gpu, camera, mdp, adsp)
The radio firmware
Maybe some things more.
What you see in /proc/memory is the free memory for the userspace after the kernel has loaded and the init has freed some ram.
Why is android such a memory hog... People can run linux derivatives on routers that are equipped with WAY less ROM and RAM.... WRT54G => DD-WRT project.. There has to be a way to optimize the memory usage.
Easyest method is to go in the FastbootMode (1. PowerOff Device, 2. press CallEnd and Back Button together, then u are changin in the FastBoot Mode),
U can read than in the first strings xxxx-xx PVT 32A or PVT 32B...
32A is 288MB Ram (original HTC, Three Austria, etc.) black Magic´s
32B is 192MB Ram (Vodafone, Vodacom, etc.) ---> white Magic´s
But only the colour is not enough to decide, there are also white 31A out there
Hope this helps..
Regards, Andi
PS: Now i will jump into my pool , without my magic... for sure

I think the real question is, why does HTC continue to make a 192mb version of the phone, when the Android OS isn't exactly tiny to begin with?
I'm not happy that T-Mobile-US (cheap weenies) went with the 32b version for the myTouch. And now rumors are afoot that the Donut & Eclair releases will be even fatter and are struggling to fit reasonably in 256mb ROM's. Just means the running footprint will likely be bigger too.

for devs....

hello

defy have 512 ram and available to use 260 and down !!!
we need super speed rom

Not necessarily. When the system needs memory, guess which one will be faster/smoother. 1) The system has free ram available, or 2) The system has to close background applications/services to release memory.
PCs with several gb memory can satisfy the need of most regular applications/services at the same time. Smarth phones don't have the luxury yet.
But with that said, I do feel this thread much like a joke.
I am using Cm7 for defy And i have 307 of free RAM so wait for final release.

[q] Available RAM

Can someone figure out, on the LATEST FIRMWARE, how many mb out of 1024 are actually usable by the system?
Quadrant>system info is a good place to check.
iconia has 745 (really good imo)
thanks.

Not really, it totally depends on what's running on your tab at the time, it's not a set number. Everything is available it just doesn't show what android itself is using.
We are not talking about free RAM, we're talking about RAM available to the OS. This will be the "big number" in task manager or as Quadrant reports it. Useful to know because different devices can have the same amount of physical RAM installed but various amounts reserved for GPU, camera etc.
Also, 746100 kb = 728MB RAM. Less than Acer? Strange.

[Q] Android for Sony Ericsson U8i Vivaz Pro

Greetings,
I'm looking for a way to upload any version of Android OS onto phone listed on the title's thread. I'm really disappointed that it runs on Symbian.
Telling me to sell it and buy other one won't work, because I tried it right after I bought it and noone was interested.
Help me however it's possible.
Thanks in advance.
That's possible?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Well... I still hope it's possible, there must be a way to install it somehow onto this whatever good phone. It can be the lightest version to fit in about 60 MB of phone memory, but I need to replace Symbian.
Is there any possibility of installing any version of Android in about 50 MB of phone memory? I need an advice how to replace Symbian OS.
Please help.
nooooo...not possible in any scenario..
I think it can be possible for a very damn stubborn programmer. I think all I need is someone like this and someone who would exchange my phone's 75 MB memory to about 512 MB. I'm very stubborn, but my knowledge is not enough...

Okay, I've just realised that I was wrong in my reply above.
My phone's memory specification is: 75 MB, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, so I think we can install any modified version of Android in the ROM, with qualified specialist or anyone who knows how to replace software in phones.
After short reflections I think it's possible, we just need to modify Android to work perfectly on Vivaz Pro and to support everything that's in this phone (screen resolution, accelerometer, 5.1 MPix camera, hardware keyboard, etc...).

Do you mean Android developers? Or those gathered in this forum?
please some body help me
anyone ever install a Dalvik virtual machine on Vivas
I dream of android can runing on Vivaz
thanks for the answer

Bacause they offer the same sime site for a bunch of mobiles, espesially in cases that the "offered" conent can't be found on teh internet but only there. E.g. update phone's to lollipop that never will get such an update, not now and not later. Its just about clicking their links to let them earn money but they'll never provide what they tell you. On the bottom are ALWAYS exact 3 feedbacks. "Working great". I landed there a couple of times while googeling things for xda
BUT feel free to do whatever yoh like I really wan't to between you and your luck ...

OK thanks for the post, me too it seemed unrealistic, because Android 5.0 Lollipop has a minimum 1 GB of RAM, a Sony Ericssson Vivaz, has 256 MB RAM 512 MB ROM.
In that case, I reiterate your request. What tool (program) or another way, maybe some code I can unlock the bootloader in the Sony Ericsson Vivaz, to install another Fimeware, with another system, such as CyanogenMod Android?

Android runs well with 512MB ram thats not the point. BUT you can't run android on it. The phone is made for a totally different OS. You won't even get android compatible hardware drivers or anything else AND the phone's hardware won't be able to run android at all.

My friend has a Nokia N8, which also originally, has on board Symbian, which has put CyanoMod Android version 2.2 or 2.3. The Nokia N8 has the same amount of RAM 256 MB and 512 MB ROM, the same amount as the Vivaz. Differs only capacity onboard memory, the N8 has 16 GB, the Vivaz is on drive C, 77 MB, and on drive D 148 MB, it is still hard. N8, processor ARM11 680 MHz double-pumped, the Vivaz is a ARM8 Cortex, clocked at 720 MHz. Vivaz sees memory card micro SDXC 64 GB, no problem. I currently have a memory card 32 GB Micro SDHC card.
I very kindly asking you for help, how to unlock bootloader in Sony Ericsson Vivaz?
Please tutorial, how it can be done, maybe it is possible to install CyanoMod Android, on the memory card, as it would have been enough space in the phone memory.

I CAN'T find anything about Nokia N8 and Cyanogenmod. You must be wrong. All in all its like that:
Community roms need a community and people who develop and maintain the roms, which regulary are people who own and use the phone themselves. No one will on request start a development (for free) that may take weeks or month if he has no benefit from it. Your phone might still be solid but its technically outdated. And there is and there will be no android for it. If you want to use android, go for a second hand phone.
