Searching forums on Phone browser - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I searched a bit and haven't found anything so thought I'd post. Something that is annoying is that I can't use the search function on any forum site with the phone browser, all that happens when I click the search on a forum website is the text input pops up then right away disappears. Is there a fix for this or can some developer attempt to fix this problem? I'm sure I'm not the only one that this bothers

Can't speak for other forums, but for XDA just hit "advanced search" I do it all the time.

Thanks that works, but is a bit more complicated. Will have to work for now but would be nice if the normal search worked too.

I just use Google and the "site:" tag. For example: Nexus themes site:forum.xda-developers.com

[Q] Search problem with GTab and this Forum

If I try to do a search of the forum using my GTab I "lose" the keyboard, I click on the "Search this Forum" box and a small search box pops up right under it, when I click on that box my keyboard pops up and then disappears immediately so I can't even enter text, what is going on???
Hi,
That's a kind of known problem (funny, huh ?). When you get the dropdown, press the "Advanced Search" link, and then search from there. It's kind of inconvenient, but it's the only way I found to search XDA forums with a browser on Gtab.
Jim
I have the same issue. The only solution I have found is to click on the "Advanced Search" at the bottom of the search box and put in your search terms using that instead. A bit of a pain but at least it will give you the ability to search.
Just a suggestion, look at the Tapatalk app, works great.
OP, I'm so glad you asked this question....I thought it was just me!

[Q] using search function of xda website with xoom

I've been meaning to post this for sometime now.
When i want to search for something on xda forums using my xoom, i click the search bar, then click the text box. no sooner does my keyboard pop up that its gone. therefore I am unable to type or search anything.
I am using the stock keyboard of EOS ICS 1.0.0.0 but it as always happened even when i was on stock 3.2.
is it a problem with forums or something i can fix. it only happens with xda, all the other forums i use like, msfn, android forums, xoomforum, ipmart, htc the search function works fine. Fortunately i still have a laptop so can do searches on there

Have noticed this since April of last year. The other day I tried again with all the browsers I have installed on my WiFi ICS Xoom: built in, Chrome beta, Firefox, & Dolphin HD. Same old, same old. If I want to search I have to leave the tablet and find my laptop. Usually the extra effort keeps me from diddling around
Pretty sure the last time I checked into this it didn't matter which site version I enable for XDA - same problem. Heck, I also remember I couldn't even log in and stay logged in. No idea about that status of that issue.
Rob
Same thing happens to me on my xoom as well as my Galaxy S2.
If i'm on either of these, I click on the 'search this forum' drop down tool bar, but I don't click on the text box as that pulls up the keyboard resulting in the drop down going away again.
When the search tool bar drops down, instead of the text box, click on 'Advanced Search' option just below it, this lets you enter your search term on a separate page. (You don't have to fill in the advanced sections).
It's a bit long-winded but has the desired affect without having to fire up your PC/Laptop.
It happens to me as well. I just click on the advanced search and search that way. Chrome Beta is the only mobile browser where the search function works correctly on XDA...at least that I'm aware of.
Anyone tried reporting this to the Admins?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276306
It has a better chance of being fixed if one of the site admins see's it.

geri
Wondering the same thing here. Wanted to "search this forum". Guess they moved it to the app instead of copying it.
Wow, I thought I was loosing my mind...so others don't see it as well
It's a bug that admin are aware of and are looking into.

Not a very good option for someone who is having problems with there phone/device. I'm glad I checked here I though I thought they had dissabled it for me because I was under the 10 post limit
Iether way it is still missing for me as well. I also noticed that the advanced search is not allowed for me either... I end up with the welcome new user you need 10 helpfull posts to use this feature page.
Did they up the restrictions for "new users"?
thats an excellent question. I salute you for being different and actually asking it, rather than ignoring it like most of us.
Worst case scenario :
Use the xda app on ur PC via android emulator
THANKS if helpful

Same result here. I'm unable to search by http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php or by clicking the wheel cog icon in the top header bar (Advanced Search). The regular search bar at the top just gives generic non forum results.
Can someone tell me how one normally limits a search to a specific forum? Should that be an option in the "Forum Tools" drop down menu?

No, the search option is right next to the "Forum Tools" button you said before, on the left side. Or at least, it should be there..
Nothing at the moment, no tools for searching the forum. Someone told us to use the xda app on android but afaik its search function ain't working at all.
Now it is back, for me at least, and from work where I use IE8.
I'll see from home (Chrome)...

[Q] search button on xda forums/threads

Is it just me and my cheap computers/phones, or have the search buttons disappeared on the xda forums? I used to be able to search forums and threads, and now I can't find the search button. have they changed, or am I just going crazy?
Nope, not you hardware, can't find them to
This is annoying as hell! Where is the search.
And please dont reply with a "use the search" standard reply.
The missing search also broke the "participated topics" tab in the Tapatalk app...

Try to use the xda 2010 theme, when I use xda classsic I don't see a search bar
Sent from my HTC_A510c using XDA App
I have tried using both the classic and 2010 themes and both do not have the search button. Is there any work around for searching the forums?
I know you can use google to search specific sites by typing "site:gizmodo.com" into the search box. This method would search only web pages on gizmodo.com or whatever you typed in there. Does anyone know how well that method would work for find specific information in posts?
I really can not believe that xda would just remove the search feature...
Tested the "site:gizmodo.com" search method and it was not a very good tool for trying to dig up specific posts/replies. I hope they get the search button back soon, god knows I could use it.

[Q] Where is the "Search" buttom gone?

I dont know what happened, but i am not able to find the buttom to "search" in threads.
Maybe i am blind, but I cannot find it anymore.
Please help
Just confirming search seems to be deactivated.
Also if we had search we could try to search why it has been deactivated.
But also if you click onto a username to "find all posts by..." it says it's disabled. Don't know why anyway. I am a n00b on XDA-developers
One mod said they were looking into it yesterday... no repair ETA.
The missing search function also happens to break the "participated topics" tab of the tapatalk app.
I can't believe we have all these really smart developers and they can't figure out how to get the search back. Very ironic.

More ironic is, that everyone is *****ing that nobody uses the search button, but there are really some users realizing, that it's missing.
