[Q] GPS Fix - Galaxy 3 Android Development

octy's app didnt work for me even. try faster fix. GPS fix takes time with me around 3-5 mins

I wonder is there is a way to stop the camera app trying to access the gps when shooting a photo, in order to prevent the app from crashing (if the gps is off or ready). I tried to make a profile in tasker that prevents gps from turning on but the camera app still leads to a crash. Maybe if we set a constant valueto the coordinates we can fool the camera app. Any ideas using tasker ?

GPS Lock Troubles

I'm sorry if this is addressed somewhere, but I couldn't find anything solid while searching. I use my G2x every day with SportyPal Pro for my bike rides. I am currently running stock 2.2.2 with root and am having some difficulty attaining an initial GPS lock. It seems like when I go to launch any GPS app, it will not get a lock. To get it to work, I have to open GPS Test, select tools, and clear out the A-GPS data. After doing this, it looks almost instantly and will keep a lock forever.
The next day, however, I must do the same thing, and this happens nearly 100% of the time. The funny thing to me is when I open GPS Test, it will show a strong signal from a lot of satellites, around 7-9, but it doesn't use these signals to find the lock. Again, after resetting the A-GPS data, it works every time almost instantly.
I have just dealt with this but it is getting more frustrating. Today, GPS Test wouldn't load, just kept showing a blank screen and force closing eventually, even after fix permissions, clear data, uninstall and reinstall. Only after another reboot, would GPS Test even load. I can't explain because I don't know well how the inner software works, but the GPS seems to have a hard time relocating itself when using the cached A-GPS data. Any fixes that anyone knows of, or things I could try?
Thanks a lot in advance.

When you launch the app and go to the satellite view screen, press menu, and it is one of the options.

Sadly, I am having the same problem
I think I'm having the same problem too: I can pick up plenty of satellites (more than the 3-4 required for a lock), and they turn green, but I don't actually get positioning data available.

Well, I guess if you are seeing the same problem, it could be a software failure. Why can't Android phone makers release a phone with GPS that works out of box? Do they not test these things? Hopefully the Gingerbread update addresses this issue.
I have GPS issues often as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I don't have this problem but I have heard of others that do. My device locks in literally 3 seconds and is accurate to 5 feet. I have to say it's the best GPS I have ever used.
I think this problem is an android issue not hardware. I have to load gps test on my vibrant before being able to get a lock also. Wont lie the lock time on this phone is considerably longer but when finally does lock its strong and accurate.
via LG G2x
It takes me forever to get a GPS lock too. However, once it finally gets one, it's fairly strong and accurate.
Gps is way crap now.my vibrant beats the crap out of it... I'm getting like 40000 feet accuracy. It eventually works itself out but still crap..
In gps status in tools deleting the a gps stuff it takes a long time (5 seconds) vs my vibrants agps data. Vibrants clears instantly almost like the lg remembers too much causing conflict....
I cant find my location via gps in google maps. In the gps status app, it appeard to be locking as fix/sats shows 3/3. Ive cleared agps data and also tried to download agps data. Does anyone experience a similar issue? Any suggestions as what elsd i can try?
I dont think its the hardware because it did work the last time i tried about 2 weeks ago. Since then I tried to use a location spoofing app (that has since been uninstalled and mock locations disabled).
On the O2X the mongs at LG left out the gps.conf file, adding it manually sped up lock time no end. I guess it's possible they did the same on the G2X?
I actually exchanged a G2x yesterday that was having problems with GPS
Regardless of whether it was on stock or not, rooted or otherwise, my phone would not find any more than 4 satellites, and would never lock. Factory resets did nothing. My fiancee's phone, however, would find 8 or more within 10 seconds when both phones were set right next to each other. Both phones had a 4/05 manufacture date.
Because of that, I was pretty sure my issue was hardware, as I was never able to get the GPS to work properly. The phone they gave me yesterday (4/12 manufacture date) does seem to work ok, though the screen bleeding a bit worse (but that doesn't bother me *that* much)

Annoying GPS problems

The GPS in my B50 32gb TF randomly decides to lock itself to out of state locations I've been to recently, and claims it's accurate to 30 meters, WTF? It likes to lock at Myrtle Beach, SC and San Diego, CA - I've been to both of these places this summer, but i've been home for weeks; I live in NC...
Sometimes it can take up to 5 minutes to get a lock at my actual location, and sometimes I can't get a lock at all. I bring my TF with me everywhere, and it's used heavily.
Is there anyway to clear these locations out? I've tried 'Clear/Refresh AGPS request' in the GPSTest app, and that doesn't seem to do anything. I've also tried clearing google maps data, which has no effect as well.
Anyone else experienced this?
I have not experienced your problem but I have had other issus. My GPS would just refuse to lock at all. I finally downloaded GPS Fix from the market & it seems to have resolved my issue. You do have run it first before you open maps.

hope it works on your DS
sorry gor my english. :silly:
Nope.... the problem is it can't find any satellites....
And i want offline gps works. not online AGPS.
tried this one twice but still my gps can't find any satellites
I am in the same situation. My GPS used to work and then it stopped. I can't even remember what I flashed or whether it stopped straight after rooting.
I've tried a whole lot of different ROMs (JB/ICS/GB, AOSP/Sense) so its not a ROM issue. I've used the AGPS patch and all those other GPS apps that are supposed to diagnose and fix the GPS, non have worked. I have eventually put it down to a hardware fault and conceded that my GPS will not work.
I'm not wondering about flashing another radio. Will that make any difference ?
No, radio has nothing to do with GPS. If it's faulty - it might just be a disconnected antenna.
Enable data
I know its not the perfect solution but by enabling mobile data and the GPS you do get a precise fix on your location and it barely drains your allowance.
Mobile data doesn't affect GPS. All it does - it enables downloading almanac and ephemeris (satellite path charts, that tell the GPS where to look and for which satellites) instantly from the dedicated internet servers, and it also allows more precise clock synchronization - all that to make the lock faster. It doesn't help maintaining the lock.
And even without mobile data, at least 1-2 satellites should be visible almost immediately.

Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 [SM-A510F] - GPS issue after OTA firmware update to Android 7

I recently received an OTA firmware update for my Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 [SM-A510F].
The new firmware version is A510FXXU4CQDJ / A510FOXA4CQDJ / A510FXXU4CQDH.
The new Android version is 7.0.
After the update I started to experience a GPS issue which I try to explain:
it's like at a certain point (can't figure out the trigger cause) my GPS location remains stuck while tracking it.
I noticed this while using a sport tracking app (the workout distance sometimes had been stuck to zero while sometimes had started increasing but suddenly had stopped).
I first thought about a bug of the sport tracking app, but this morning I made a test workout while monitoring the GPS sensor with the GPS Test app.
When the issue occurred in the sport tracking app (the workout distance stopped increasing), I switched back to the GPS Test app to see what was happening: the GNSS Status was still on 3D Fix and there were about 20 satellites in use, but the accuracy was a s****y 32 meters (while it is usually about 4/6 meters).
It took a couple minutes to have the accuracy around 8 meters again. At that point my location in the sport tracking app was updated and the distance started increasing again when moving.
I had never experienced any GPS issue since I bought the phone. I never monitored the GPS sensor but there had never been any issue when tracking my location with the sport tracking app that I use.
I tried to toggle off and then on again the location functionality on the phone, to restart the phone, to clear and update the AGPS but the issue still persists.
Has anyone any idea on how to solve it?
Exact same problem!
Hi, i have the exact same problem!! I can't seem to figure out what is wrong....
Have you found the answer yet???

If you have social media apps installed(Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp, Snapchat, etc...), then your issue could be caused by one or more of these apps overloading the CPU and/or consuming all of your bandwidth(not allowing GPS to send or recieve any data to update exact location).
These social media apps are processor and data hogs. They interfere with other things functioning while they are scanning, sending and receiving information packets. They also dramatically impact how long your battery lasts per charge and they can also cause the device to get hot when using these apps heavily, it's even worse if you're charging the device while using these apps heavily.

I recently had an intermittent GPS problem which finally got so bad that the device (unrooted Samsung A3 (2016) , Lollipop) was not picking up any satellites and thus not getting a fix. After trying all sorts of things, such as deleting files in the phone memory, installing various GPS fixer apps I came across TopNTP in the playstore, installed and ran it. The GPS immediately started working properly again. Don't be put off by the age of the app or the requirement stated in the playstore that the phone be rooted. Mine wasn't and it still worked. Also the install and automatic reboot option in the app does not work. You have to restart your phone manually, but it still fixes the GPS problem.

Waze GPS issues

Hello,
after two days of good GPS working, today I had an issue. After setting up destination in Waze, it showed a message "GPS cannot connect" or similar. I restarted the phone but it was the same. I let the Waze run for 10 minutes, but nothing changed.
Then I started Google Maps. There was no GPS connection neither, but after couple of minutes it started to work. And then I was able also use the Waze as well.
Do you know guys what is the issue?
Thank a lot.
Sounds like an agps (assisted GPS) issue. Periodically most phones download a table of satellite locations to speed up getting a lock. Otherwise it can take some minutes and some apps don't seem to cause a proper initialization. There is often a system setting to also allow WiFi scanning to speed up a lock. This uses access point locations to get a quick fix using Google's database of WiFi locations. Lastly the phone can use cell tower locations also looked up from a database. If you've ever tried to get a lock while on an airplane, you will see this effect.
I'm short though, if the GPS ever gets stuck, there is a good app called GPS test from chartcross that always kick starts it again for me.
Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
I don't know what the root cause is or the fix but I am able to use a free app called gps locker which locks gps then while running Waze I have few if any issues. It's also nice as it let's you create a shortcut for your home screen that you can tap, which launches gps locker , locks gps location, then auto launches Waze. Super handy. See attached.
Is anyone else having major GPS issues. Waze and Google Maps is having issues acquiring a GPS signal. I tried GPS lock but that doesn't seem to solve the problem for me either. It seems to work sometimes and gets a signal pretty quickly but other times it doesn't work at all. It's very frustrating.
Seems like Waze might be the issue.
I saw another post on t mobile support that suggested removing Waze clearing cache and restarting. This worked like a champ for me
Google maps works perfectly again. GPS locks immediately like it should.
