so this is two different colors i have made so far let me know what everyone thinks they can be pushed to the phone thru adb unless somebody wants to make them flashable i cant get that part figured out i will put them up if there wanted this is the blue carbon http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17065055/snap20110109_213250.png ......... this is the red carbon http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17065055/snap20110109_211359.png
Easy way to make them flashable:
1. Download a flashable keyboard. Check my sig for a link to mine.
2. Open zip with 7zip.
3. Navigate to system/app folder.
4. Remove the latinime.apk in there and drag yours in.
5. Close 7zip. It will ask if you want to update the zip. Click yes.
6. Rename the zip to whatever you want.
7. Sign the zip to make it flashable with an auto signer.
8. Post and bask in the adoration of your peers.

I couldnt tell by looking in the folder if that's the right keyboard but you could always just unzip the folder put Htc_ime in your tools and adb push it to /system/app
Im not near a computer i could do that on. you wouldnt have a flashable zip?
Odd. I'm on Sushi and that's what I used.
Did you try long pressing in any blank field and choose input method (choose touch input)?
That worked thanks. No this can be locked and closed!
I looked and searched everywhere for this, can someone please get me a flashable version of the stock black on white splash screen?
I second this notion.
Don't remember where I grabbed the converter. I had a frantic evening before taking my no working Evo to Sprint and it was not easy to find.
Inside the zip is the original flashable file.
Thank you, I love you.

Can you give me regular flashing instructions?
I there a way to get this in a pc36img.zip?
I think you're just gonna have to find a Windows computer.
Use the instructions in the "white on black" thread. Just change the filename to what's in this zip.
Thanks Guys
D: keeps failing guys

change hboot img
So I know his thread has been inactive for a bit, but after searching and reading for literaly hours ... I am still having issues trying to flash a custom splash screen to my Evo.. I got it to go once but have no idea how I did it.
Now I have the second EVO and want to change its screen but again no luck.
I am using flashboot but it keeps giving me the " failed " message.
Thanx for ANY help with this.
Gregg
In a zip file
You can just rename the image to splash1.img and put it in a zip file with an associated text file. Here's the Android HTC screen from above.
Boot holding Volume down and Power down and answer yes to install.
I just installed it on my EVO via the zip file. It is a lot simpler that way to me.
Note the zip file is PC36IMG.zip, it is different for different Android phones. Been beating my head against the wall for a while.
Thanks,
Coty

Graphic
1. Locate the graphic you want to use and size it (480x800).
2. Download the conversion tool (evosplash.zip I think) from Post #3 of this thread.
3. Run the EVOSplash.exe converter, click open and load your image, then click convert.
4. The resulting file will be something like evosplash1.rgb565, in the same location as the original file.
5. Rename "evosplash1.rgb565" to "splash1.img"
Text
6. There must be a .txt file to identify the image and what to do with it, I've attached the file for an EVO - it must be named "android-info.txt" (You can just use the one attached.)
Zip
7. Create a zip named "PC36IMG.zip" (must be uppercase before .zip). There will be only 2 files in this zip. Add your graphic "splash1.img" and the text "android-info.txt" to this zip.
Install
8. Copy the zip to the root of your SDcard - I normally use the Disk Drive option, email works also.
9. Hold down the power button and shutdown the phone as normal.
10. Reboot - Hold the volume down button and the power button simultaneously until the hboot screen loads. It may take a second, but hboot will find the zip and ask if you want to install.
11. It will ask if you want to install - Volume up for yes
11. It will then ask, do you want to reboot, volume up for "yes" and your EVO reboots and your new boot screen is there.
I just created the PC36IMG.zip attached in about 2 minutes and tested the instructions on my EVO. It worked for me. Good Luck!!!
There are some awsome graphics on the XDA site for other model Androids. You can "Steal" their graphics and go through the process above to make an EVO version. Just be careful with the .txt file, EVO uses PC36IMG, others use a PC32IMG. EVO must be PC36IMG and the text file must contain the PC36000.... text file attached.

Thanks! I've been looking for this! (great for work!)
I used this in my steampunk theme, but I really liked it so I thought I would make the png files available for any other devs that want to use them. They should work in the stock sense framework-res or the cm6/aosp framework-res without resizing or renaming...
To use these, you'll need to pull your framework-res.apk through adb and insert the files in my zip into the drawable-mdpi folder. Resign the apk and push it via adb or create a flashable zip (my pref.).
Enjoy!

No. It clearly says that the zip is his png files. You have to put them in your framework res, make your own zip, sign it, then you can flash.

I did not create it as a flashable zip for one major reason... any zip file I made would cause the loss of the theme you're running. Since I'm unwilling and don't have time to do this for ALL the themes that are out there, I thought I would just offer up the files. Here are more detailed instructions on how to use. By the way, I learned EVERYTHING I know how to do with my Hero from this forum. The resources here are seemingly endless...
Here goes:
1. Make sure you have android-sdk installed
2. Get the Fresh Kitchen and donate to Flipz while your at it.
3. Plug your phone in via USB and then open a command prompt.
4. Go into your android-sdk-windows\tools directory in the command prompt.
5. Type
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
6. Using 7-zip, Open the framework-res.apk file and then drag and drop the images from my zip file into drawable-mdpi folder of the apk.
7. create a folder on your drive like so: /system/framework/
8. move the framework-res.apk into the new folder.
9. zip the /system/ folder and it's contents.
10. Open the kitchen and go to tools, then sign a zip.
11. pick your newly created zip file as the source.
12. lable your the signed zip as "signed_*.zip" or something like that so you'll know it's different.
13. after the zip is signed, copy the signed zip to your sdcard.
14. reboot to recovery and NANDROID!!!!
15. flash the zip.
16. reboot and enjoy.
Hope that helps.

Splash Screens are stationary, and do not move. Boot Animations DO move however and are what is displayed after the splash screen.
If you want a custom boot animation, PM me what you are looking for. No promises, as this is not my specialty, but I can certainly give it a shot.

Hey man, for it being "not my specialty", you do some mighty fine work. Any way you could do a variation of "HTC Inspire, Rooted, S-Off" with a blue background? The order they appear isn't important, I just wanted to get those three points in as the text part.
Thanks much!

Hey guys! Someone recently posted that they wanted to start to making their own themes and I posted a very long reply and figured, might as well post a "somewhat easy to understand" tutorial here for everyone.
So you want to make your own themes?
First off, it is important to know that if you plan on porting any themes over and releasing it to the masses, that you get permission from the theme owner first!!
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE EXPLODES OR MELT! lol
NOTE: IF YOU'RE A NOOB (you know if you are) DO NOT MESS WITH ANY IMAGE THAT ENDS IN ".9" UNTIL YOU READ UP ON THEM.......A LOT! IF YOU'RE JUST REPLACING AN IMAGE, THEN READ ON.
A good write up on .9 (9 patch) images can be found here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/draw9patch.html
What you will need:
Apkmanager: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
7zip: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
An empty flashable zip: http://www.multiupload.com/DBEMBUOCND
Lot's of time on your hands!
GETTING STARTED:
Apkmanager is going to be your "all-in-one" tool for making a theme in Windows.
(I'll go into all the options of apkmanager a little later)
The process you need to follow is actually kind of simple. It's just very time consuming.
First you will need to make the images that you want (unless you are porting a theme).
Now what you need to do is one way or another, get the framework-res.apk and the SystemUI.apk from your phone, if you want to theme the launcher then you need to get the TouchWiz30Launcher.apk as well. (If you don't want to mess with using adb, use Root Explorer, just copy the apk then paste on your sdcard, then copy and paste from your sdcard onto your pc.)
Extract apkmanager to somewhere easy like the desktop and you should end up with a folder named "apkmanager" or whatever.
Inside that folder, you should have the following folders:
Other
place-apk-here-for-modding
place-apk-here-for-signing
place-apk-here-to-batch-optimize
place-ogg-here
projects
Then the following files:
log
Script
DO NOT MODIFY THE NAMES OF ANY OF THESE FILES OR FOLDERS OR NOTHING WILL WORK!
Take the 3 files that you got from your phone and place them in the "place apk here for modding" folder.
Double click to open the "Script" file
Press "22" and hit enter to set your current job
Select either 1,2 or 3 for whichever apk you want to start on first
Select "9" to decompile
Once decompile is done, go inside the "projects" folder and now you have a folder inside there with whatever the name is of the apk you just decompiled.
Inside that folder are the images and XML files you need to replace (you might not have to edit any of the XML files, that's a little more advanced unless you already know how to.)
Most of the images you will need to edit will be in the following folders of each apk:
res>drawable
res>drawable-hdpi
You can look around in there and see what all needs to be done. I will get into themeing the contacts and phone and all that a little later.
Once you get everything done and you're ready to test it out, you need to go back to that "Script" file in apkmanager and open it back up. Now you're going to do pretty much the same stuff you did when you were decompiling the apk, in order to compile the apk.
In the Script for apkmanager, you're going to press "22" and hit enter, then select which file you want to compile first by either pressing 1,2 or 3.
Select the file and hit enter, then press "11" and press enter to compile the apk. As long as you didn't mess anything up during the process of changing stuff, you shouldn't receive any errors. If you do, you need to figure out what it was you messed up on and fix it.
Go through and compile the apks that you edited. Once that is done, you will go to your "place apk here for modding" folder again and you will notice that you have 3 new files in there:
unsignedframework-res.apk
unsignedSystemUI.apk
unsignedTouchWiz30Launcher.apk
Remember that empty flashable zip you downloaded earlier? Now you need it.
Right click on the flashable zip and mouse over "7zip" and click on "Open Archive"
Take the unsignedSystemUI.apk and the unsignedTouchWiz30Launcher.apk and place them in the "app" folder. Now rename those to their original names:
SystemUI.apk
TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
Now take that unsignedframework-res.apk and place it in the "framework" folder of the flashable zip. Rename that one to "framework-res.apk."
Now you can close out of the flashable zip file and place it on your sdcard.
Reboot into recovery, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik, now go to "mounts and storage" and mount /system.
Now go back and flash the zip file you just put on your sdcard.
Since you wiped your cache and your dalvik, the reboot will take a little while. You should now be good to go!
NOTE: Since I did not create apkmanager, I will not be able to answer many questions about it but feel free to ask. If I don't have an answer for you, Just go back to the post above where you downloaded it, and post your question there.
As stated earlier in my post, I will get more in depth about all this stuff as soon as I have a little more time to post everything.
Please enjoy and happy themeing!!!!!!

Not a problem! I'm going to add more stuff as soon as I get more time. Also, if there are any other themers that want to contribute like ForeverSupra or Endless or Stranula. Please send me a PM and I'll add your stuff to the OP as well!

Ima be all over this. 12 hr nightshift coupled with a mild case of OCD=awesome sauce ....you da man
In ApkManager you don't need to decompile the apk's. You just need to extract them because all you're doing is messing with the images.

Spc. There is an ultimate draw 9 patch out that makes editing the .9's so much easier once you have patched them. You may want to add that to the op, Stoney from BadSeed showed it to me and its so easy now, no need for eclipse.

Just so everyone knows, here soon I'm also going to be posting a tutorial on how to center the clock and move around your icons and stuff in the statusbar!
I had all the knowledge in the OP and decided I was going to start theming. Then I saw the literally hundreds of PNG's i would have to edit and decided it isn't for me lol. I get bored too easily to spend that much time in photoshop/gimp haha.
That said, I really appreciate what themers do.

It's the "updater-script"
To get to the updater script, of the zip file. Open the zip file with 7zip and go to:
META-INF>com>google>android
Open the updater script with Notepad++ or whatever text editor you use. Only the edit the text that says "place your text here" or you can mess up the entire zip file and it won't flash.
