I looked and searched everywhere for this, can someone please get me a flashable version of the stock black on white splash screen?
I second this notion.
Don't remember where I grabbed the converter. I had a frantic evening before taking my no working Evo to Sprint and it was not easy to find.
Inside the zip is the original flashable file.
Thank you, I love you.

Can you give me regular flashing instructions?
I there a way to get this in a pc36img.zip?
I think you're just gonna have to find a Windows computer.
Use the instructions in the "white on black" thread. Just change the filename to what's in this zip.
Thanks Guys

change hboot img
So I know his thread has been inactive for a bit, but after searching and reading for literaly hours ... I am still having issues trying to flash a custom splash screen to my Evo.. I got it to go once but have no idea how I did it.
Now I have the second EVO and want to change its screen but again no luck.
I am using flashboot but it keeps giving me the " failed " message.
Thanx for ANY help with this.
Gregg
In a zip file
You can just rename the image to splash1.img and put it in a zip file with an associated text file. Here's the Android HTC screen from above.
Boot holding Volume down and Power down and answer yes to install.
I just installed it on my EVO via the zip file. It is a lot simpler that way to me.
Note the zip file is PC36IMG.zip, it is different for different Android phones. Been beating my head against the wall for a while.
Thanks,
Coty

Graphic
1. Locate the graphic you want to use and size it (480x800).
2. Download the conversion tool (evosplash.zip I think) from Post #3 of this thread.
3. Run the EVOSplash.exe converter, click open and load your image, then click convert.
4. The resulting file will be something like evosplash1.rgb565, in the same location as the original file.
5. Rename "evosplash1.rgb565" to "splash1.img"
Text
6. There must be a .txt file to identify the image and what to do with it, I've attached the file for an EVO - it must be named "android-info.txt" (You can just use the one attached.)
Zip
7. Create a zip named "PC36IMG.zip" (must be uppercase before .zip). There will be only 2 files in this zip. Add your graphic "splash1.img" and the text "android-info.txt" to this zip.
Install
8. Copy the zip to the root of your SDcard - I normally use the Disk Drive option, email works also.
9. Hold down the power button and shutdown the phone as normal.
10. Reboot - Hold the volume down button and the power button simultaneously until the hboot screen loads. It may take a second, but hboot will find the zip and ask if you want to install.
11. It will ask if you want to install - Volume up for yes
11. It will then ask, do you want to reboot, volume up for "yes" and your EVO reboots and your new boot screen is there.
I just created the PC36IMG.zip attached in about 2 minutes and tested the instructions on my EVO. It worked for me. Good Luck!!!
There are some awsome graphics on the XDA site for other model Androids. You can "Steal" their graphics and go through the process above to make an EVO version. Just be careful with the .txt file, EVO uses PC36IMG, others use a PC32IMG. EVO must be PC36IMG and the text file must contain the PC36000.... text file attached.

I used this in my steampunk theme, but I really liked it so I thought I would make the png files available for any other devs that want to use them. They should work in the stock sense framework-res or the cm6/aosp framework-res without resizing or renaming...
To use these, you'll need to pull your framework-res.apk through adb and insert the files in my zip into the drawable-mdpi folder. Resign the apk and push it via adb or create a flashable zip (my pref.).
Enjoy!

No. It clearly says that the zip is his png files. You have to put them in your framework res, make your own zip, sign it, then you can flash.

Well, in that case, this won't help you unless you want to learn how to modify your framework-res. It isn't as hard as it sounds.

I did not create it as a flashable zip for one major reason... any zip file I made would cause the loss of the theme you're running. Since I'm unwilling and don't have time to do this for ALL the themes that are out there, I thought I would just offer up the files. Here are more detailed instructions on how to use. By the way, I learned EVERYTHING I know how to do with my Hero from this forum. The resources here are seemingly endless...
Here goes:
1. Make sure you have android-sdk installed
2. Get the Fresh Kitchen and donate to Flipz while your at it.
3. Plug your phone in via USB and then open a command prompt.
4. Go into your android-sdk-windows\tools directory in the command prompt.
5. Type
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
6. Using 7-zip, Open the framework-res.apk file and then drag and drop the images from my zip file into drawable-mdpi folder of the apk.
7. create a folder on your drive like so: /system/framework/
8. move the framework-res.apk into the new folder.
9. zip the /system/ folder and it's contents.
10. Open the kitchen and go to tools, then sign a zip.
11. pick your newly created zip file as the source.
12. lable your the signed zip as "signed_*.zip" or something like that so you'll know it's different.
13. after the zip is signed, copy the signed zip to your sdcard.
14. reboot to recovery and NANDROID!!!!
15. flash the zip.
16. reboot and enjoy.
Hope that helps.

WELCOME ROM & THEME DEV!!!
Hi all.... since the work on CWM is longer than i wish i have done this MOD that - for the moment - can help all.....
This is the custom recovery modded by me to allow the installation of update.zip signed with the test key.
Attached at this post you can find:
- The PDA that must be flashed with odin;
- The tool for signing your custom update.zip
Update.zip must be signed like so:
java -Xmx1024m -jar signapk.jar -w testkey.x509.pem testkey.pk8 your-update.zip signed-update.zip
Very important is the "-w" that mean ( if i remember well) whole file.
To enter in recovery mode the combo is VOL-UP + Home + POWER
Hope you enjoy it!
UPDATE: I attach also an update.zip that will install Microbes Live Wallpaper, maybe you don't like it but sure it can help you on building you own update.zip. PLEASE STUDY IT!
IMPORTANT: System folder maybe cannot have more space, in this case the update.zip will i attached not work until you haven't deleted some bloatware like aldiko and other ( in all case i suggest to remove all bloatware). The update.zip that overwrite system files don't have this issue i think.
UPDATE 2: i forgot to tell you that this is based on XXKB3 kernel, it might also with other FW without problem but if you find any issue please PM what firmware is and i'll build the recovery for you.
A guide for n00bs that want build their update.zip - written by trip007in -can be found HERE

Great work mate, so you finally did it.
Immediately flashed PDA file uploaded by you and successfully flashed. Made an update.zip of livewallpapers to test the recovery, signed it using your tools. You dint mention any hardware key combinations to enter into recovery, so used root tools and entered recovery and tried update but it failed. in the last step.
I made update.zip by putting the livewallpapers.apk in system>app folder and zipped it. Signed it using your signing tool. placed it on sdcard for flashing.
Any suggestions?

Thanks a million, it worked. I replaced the files in the zip using 7zip, and resigned it using the script. It worked but flashed a message during update regarding the microbesgl wallpaper that was packaged by you. I underastand thats because of the update-binary and update-script. It does not matter though, I would like to know how did you get/ create that android folder and its contents inside the zip. was it packaged separately or created automatically during signing zip?
The second question, the most important one is how to enter recovery using combo keys? does it work or we have to depend on ADB or softwares like root tools? to get into recovery from the on mode. Then there is no way to recover a bricked phone with wrong framework or essential files which are loaded during boot.

The sign create only the three files inside the folder META-INF, you must create the other folder or simply edit the zip i posted.
If you edit the updater-script and change the first line ui_print("Installing Microbes...") you wil not see Instaling Microbes.
To enter in recovery mode simply shut down your phone then Press VOL UP + HOME (the center keys) + POWER.
Bye!
A little guide for using custom recovery (3e)
Hi Skin, this is a small guide to your recovery for noobs, who need some help for creating or flashing the update.zip files. You are free to link this post to the first post for easy reference.
Download the three attachments on the first post of this thread and save them on your PC.
Flashing Recovery to phone:
1. power down the phone and simultaneously press Vol. down + HOME (Center key) and power on buttons till you see download mode connect the phone to PC through USB.
2. open ODIN on PC and check Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
3. Click on PDA and browse to the location where you placed the PDA.tar file from this post. and click start.
Wait for the phone too reboot, the recovery is flashed now.
Preparing the update.zip for flashing.
You do this if you are an experienced user and know the location of the files to be paced on the system partition of phone or avoid this and may use the already uploaded update.zip provided here.
1.First create a folder called ‘updzip’ in c:\ drive, the path would be C:\updzip
2.Place here the contents of the sign-tools in this folder i.e signapk.jar, testkey.pk8 and testkey.x509.pem.
3.Now edit the update.zip file downloaded from this post with the files you want to flash in recovery. This can be done by dragging the files into the zip archive, which can be opened with applications like 7Zip. Alternatively you can extract the contents of the file and place the files to be updated in appropriate folder and rebuild the zip file. The location of this zip file will be the same C:\updzip.
Eg: for flashing system applications you have to place the apk files in system/app inside the zip. Whereas framework files goes into system/framework.
4.The update.zip contains META-INF folder which is essential for update.zip to work. After placing the files inside zip in appropriate folder(s) you need to sign it using the sign-tools. Before this you have to delete the three files inside the META-INF folder i.e CERT.RSA , CERT.SF and MANIFEST.MF, as these files will be created after signing the whole zip.
5.Now go to command prompt ‘cmd’ and browse to the C:\updzip and sign the zip as follows, assuming you have named the zip as ‘sysap-update.zip’.
Code:
C:\Users>cd c:\updzip
c:\updzip>java -Xmx1024m -jar signapk.jar -w testkey.x509.pem testkey.pk8 sysap-update.zip signed-update.zip
c:\updzip>exit
6.Now you will have signed-update.zip in C:\>updzip folder this file should be placed on the SDCARD and name it as update.zip for it to work in recovery.
Flashing update.zip files from recovery:
1.Power down the phone and simultaneously press Vol. up + Home and power on for few seconds till you see the samsung logo and release the keys wait for the phone to enter recovery (3e).
2.Select the option apply sdcard: update.zip, using vol down key to navigate to the option and press home button.
3.After update reboot the phone.
Your files are flashed and system is updated.
Enjoy and Happy Flashing. Now its not easy to screw up/ brick your phone.

Since tomorrow i leave for two week ( HOLYDAYS!!!) i decided to build this so you can enjoy with it.

Prerequisites: Adobe Photoshop, Android Phone, Download and Extract "Bootanimation Setup"
https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D6913056_8382954_648643
1. Download "Root Explorer" from the Android Market and allow SuperUser access
2. Open the application and go to system->customize->resource->and locate the file that says "bootanimation.zip"
3. On the top of the screen, there should read a toggle that says "Mount R/W". Click it, to where it says "Mount R/O". (Turns on the option to write to your Root)
4. Copy your current bootanimation to your computer. (We're going to use it as a template)
5. Now put this aside for a while. Copy the "Export Layers to Files - (Fast PNG version)" script to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Scripts
6. Get a .gif or .avi file and open it with Adobe Photoshop. (Make sure it is the final copy of what you want and must have a frame size of 540X960)
7. Now in Photoshop, go to, File->Scripts->Export Layers to Files(Fast PNG)
8. Locate the file you downloaded earlier to your computer from your phone. Extract it and go into the "android" folder.
9. Go to wherever you saved the exported layers, and rename every frame with accordance the frames in the "android" folder so it matches.
10. Put all the renamed frames in the "android" folder and delete the old ones.
11. Use WinRar to zip them up again. BUT DO NOT COMPRESS THE .ZIP FILE, OTHERWISE THE PHONE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE IT. It compreses by default, make sure you untick that option.
12. Go back to your phone and locate the old "bootanimation.zip" and rename it to "bootanimation.bak". (To back it up in case of bootloop)
13. Copy the the new "bootanimation.zip" into the same location as your original bootanimation and reboot phone.
14. Enjoy!!
ahh thanks, didn't know the zip had to be uncompressed. I was having issues. Thanks!
ive never seen this done before but can we use videos as bootanimations?
If you follow these steps, it helps you convert a video into a bootanimation. Using an actual video would not be possible.

- i made a zip file with 8 images, it goes super-fast in showing them and then a black screen until Sense starts. Any way to make it slower?
Rgds,
I will update this tutorial on Saturday with adding sound and the settings file. Please hold on till then. But for now look for a text file, don't remember it off the top of my head. But if you open it, you can edit the file a change the frames per second, and amount of times it repeats. But the higher the amount, the more it lags during the first play. But like I said, wait until Saturday!

Rgds,
When I initially looked in the resource folder there was no bootanimation.zip but maybe because I already had flashed a custom ROM? So I used AndroidFlasher1.8.0 posted in another thread to load a new boot animation which is a lot easier. How do I change the boot animation for powering down the phone?

15 means 15 fps (frames per second), change it lower like 10. But the lower it gets smoothnes decreases..
Quote from another post:
explanation of the desc file:
540 960 15
p 1 1 android
Width Height Frame-rate
p Loop Pause Folder
first line: width height frames-rate
second line: p just stands for play. the first number says how often to loop the animation. The second number says for how long to pause the animation after every loop. the string is the name of the folder we created above.

hey guys does i need to root my phone to do all of that ? sorry for the stupid qs but i`m very interested to get rid of the stupid vodafone logo
This seems pretty neat! I'll have to try to come up with a cool boot animation.
After going through many of the different lock ring tutorials, I have noticed that they all have something in common: They are too user intensive and prone to user-error. Sure, once you have it down, it's easy. But it can be daunting to start out.
All I have done here is make it EXTREMELY user friendly.
No more copying and pasting into ZIPs and APKs!!
No more fishing around the Templates tree in M10 Tools!!!
Simply run the BATCH file, get a cup of coffee, and then flash!
Here are the detailed instructions... (also in the Read-Me)
0. Make sure you have installed Microsoft .net 4 framework on your machine.
http://www.microsoft.com/net
1. Unpack User_Friendly_Lock_Screen_Kit_v1.04.zip (Where you put the file does not matter anymore!!!! For example purposes, I will use C:\Lock_Ring_Kit)
2. Copy your image into C:\Lock_Ring_Kit and name it LockRing.png
Image requirements:
a. Must be a PNG file
b. Image must be 271 x 270 pixels (If it is not the right size, it will come out looking funny (270x271 WILL NOT WORK)
c. The image must be rotated 180 degrees and reflected horizontally.
3. Double-click "LockRingCreator.bat" and let it do its thing.
4. Flashable.zip was just created for you. Rename it whatever you wish.
5. Copy it to the root of your SD card, boot into recovery, and flash
The BATCH file cleans up after itself. You don't have to go through and delete any of the old files. If you want to make another one, just change out the PNG and run it again. My desktop is pretty old, and the BATCH takes about 2 minutes to run.
I have only tested this on Synergy, but I assume that it will work on similar ROMs. I also believe that it will work on the Thunderbolt (can someone confirm that?)
All files are included in the ZIP.
User_Friendly_Lock_Ring_Kit_v1.05.zip
Error Reporting
This is a work in progress. If you have an issue, please post it on the thread. Also, please copy and paste the output from the command prompt so we can get to the bottom of it. (Right click on command prompt, Select All, the then press ENTER. It is now ready to paste.)
Acknowledgments:
jmaher1023 - I used his process as a template. All that my BATCH file does is automate his process
Flemmard and DiamondBack2010- I have no idea what M10 Tools does or how much trouble they had to go through to make it, but I do know that it is the heart and soul of this whole operation.

I'll try this out, thanks alot dude.
One thing you didn't mention is that the images still need to be 271 X 270 or they won't look right. Other than that this works on Gingeritis3d. (And if I want to say I was the one to create the lock ring I might edit the script) lol. Very good work though man. Very useful tool. Have you been able to find where the images are located for the Amazing sense skin? I haven't found those yet and want to use that semi transparent tool bar at the bottom but dont want to use a different launcher
somehow i cant get it to work ive followed every step but when i run the

There is a file named "updater-script" Rename it updater-script.txt, and open it for editing. Just look for my name and replace it with yours. Make sure you take the .txt off after saving

What operating system are you running? Do you have Microsoft .net 4 framework installed on your system?
When it is working properly, after you run the BATCH file you should see a command window running various commands for a little while.
did you

did you make sure the file was named LockRing and was a png format? Something else to consider is that if you named a png image lockring.png then when it looks for the file it will see lockring.png.png so make sure it is a png format image but only name it LockRing.Hope this helps

Thanks brudda. I was only kidding about renaming the script. I knew where to find it. I can run a couple other ROMS if you want. I got nothing better to do tonight. Let me know which ones you want to add to your list and i'll do a couple.
just downloaded will test in a minute on mik3d beta1, but in the read me file, no sizes for pic you intend to use (just a heads up).
Forgot to mention I am running Gingeritis 3D Beta VIII. And I do have .net 4 installed. Maybe thats why i didn't have any issues. Also I didn't even read the read me file. oops.

Love my DropBox. Tried a few other apps like Minus and another but they are just not so user friendly and helpful. Although a couple have more GB.

dropbox has been the easiest, havent hit a limit yet, except storage space..... which i upgraded to eliminate that problem, all the others i have tried i cant upload anything because they limit file sizes that you can upload, where as dropbox just syncs with your desktop, takes awhile but works.
just tried it to make a flashable zip and it did the same thing as other guy, flashed the cmd prompt super quick, no zip created.....
edit:
wait i just checked windows update and it has 2 updates for net framework 4 lol
nice i was using the copy paste way. i use one like this for the 3d(that was made by triscuit1983.
still didnt work for me, oh well back to m10 editor... thanx anyways
did you put it on your c drive i had that problem on the one for the 3d
I will try again tomorrow, work in the morning

Make sure that you unzip the files to C:\Lock_Ring_Kit. When I install them somewhere else ("C:\Lock_Ring_Kit______"), I get the same error you do. However, the BATCH file did what it was supposed to do. Since C:\Lock_Ring_Kit did not exist, it created it, and there is a "Working" folder as well as a "Flashable.zip" there. But, since the original files were not in the right place, it is useless.
When the command prompt just flashes, what that means is that M10Tools are not having a chance to run. The only explanation I have for that as of right now is that the files are not in the right location. Also make sure that you named the image LockRing.png.
I'll see about making the batch file spit out an error code, but it might be a few days before I can get around to it. I'll keep yall posted.
Anybody have or know where to get "Tron Bike" boot animation for droid Charge??
http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1
I love this.
Here is the instruction from cliMAKtic:
*To make this work you must be rooted, AND you must have a supporting kernel (i.e. PB&J by IMNUTS)
1. You need to go here: http://bit.ly/pJ1znp and download the zip file which will contain two other zip files, one animation for landscape and one animation for portrait.
**You can watch both previews here (they are only slightly different): http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7344-boot...-like-android/
2. Extract one of the inner zip files (or both) and put them on your sd card.
3. Rename the one you want to sanim.zip, and use a file explorer app (I use Root explorer -it's awesome), to copy the renamed "sanim.zip" from your sd-card to the /system/media folder on your phone.
4. Reboot and Ta Da
Thanks
You copy the image files into the bootanimation folder...

Glad to hear you got it working, is it the animation with the four androids on their bikes? If so would you mind sending me the link to where you got it from? The one in the original post is broken.

So I found it in zip here:
http://gunnermike53.com/Themers/jaekar99/Galaxy-Nexus/TronBikeLr4-Nex.zip
I couldn't find a flash file so you'll have to rename it and push the file. I'm doin' it now..
Yes that's is correct.
They have 2 versions: one for vertical screen, which the video is kind of square and not fit the screen. The one that you posted is for the landscape version which fit the screen perfectly. Also the ending of the vertical screen is different than the landscape one. The vertical ending is with the word "galaxy nexus" goes from small to large and stay large. The landscape ending is the word "galaxy nexus" on top of a green android image and light shadow around it (very cool looking). So I combined both ending together. The landscape ending then ended with the vertical ending. By the time the vertical ending is done, my phone boot right into to OS. I don't think it's going to work straight out of the box. I have to recompile this thing to make it works.
What do I do with the ZIP file? Instal zip in recovery? then what?

download the zip to your PC, unzip it and in /system/media there is a file named bootanimation.zip. Take this file out and rename this to sanim.zip, then copy it to your phone under /system/media/

To add sound on boot, you need a .wav file, you need to rename said .wav file to PowerOn.wav, and you need to put it in /System/Etc on your phone. I ripped the audio file that goes along with this boot animation and converted it/renamed it yadda yadda which I could give you if you really want, it is also available on that link I posted earlier in some format.
HOWEVER, there is still the problem of boot sounds getting cut off after about 9 seconds, leaving about 4-5 seconds of the animation without sound DEPENDING on what Rom you are running [I know Khali was able to get it working for the full length so if you are running TweakStock 1.4 you should be all set]. As for my InfinityRom I'm sure there is some xml editing that could be done to extend the sound for any given Rom but I am not sure what it is yet, I am looking into it..
If you wanted to put a shortened PowerOn.wav file on your phone that would only play for a portion of the animation that would work just fine (might look a little stupid though ).
**Again TweakStock 1.4 should NOT cut your sound short.

Thank cliMAKtic! Got it to work. Just replaced the poweron.wav. It plays during the entire animation. I am running TweakStock 1.4 (dont know if that matters)
