Just got my nexus s and I just loved the device the only problem I am facing right now is that there are many apps that are not appearing in my android market like "Movies" "Skype" "pandora" etc. Even if I search these on appbrain and press market, the app does show on market and says "not available".
Is there a way to fix this as it is really annoying me.

This was a problem everyone faced for about the first two weeks of the phone being released. Google hadn't updated the Market server to recognize our phones. It shouldn't be happening to you.
The only thing I can think of is maybe you have to apply the OTA update (Settings/Check For Updates) to the phone to get the proper build.prop entries on the phone.
The other possibility is you're in a country that those apps aren't allowed for you? You don't have a location setting, but if you've seen these apps on other phones, that's not it.
It is possible to hack in a fix to the phone's build.prop file if you unlock the bootloader and root the phone, but again, this shouldn't be necessary at this point.
It's also possible to download the apps onto your old Android that sees them, then copy the apk file to your NS's sdcard and manually install the apps.
By the way, there's a lengthy thread about this already, complete with everyone saying it's fixed for them.
I am currently using my phone outside US. But I bought it from US.I was using it previously in UAE but couldnt find skype app there as well but my collegue there was using it on his desire. I have already updated it to 2.3.1... Can this location restriction be lifted off??? It is really bugging me as I can't install important apps like Skype, Books etc... please help.

I believe that google checks your access to apps first by the country of the sim card installed in your phone. If that's not available they then look up what country your IP address is registered to.
Have you got a US sim or UAE sim installed?
Could you pull the sim card, and then us a US based VPN server or something to trick Google into thinking you're in the US or UK?
Yeah I was using UAE sim... and yeah I tried that US sim trick but it didn't worked either. I installed Skype through an apk file and it's working fine. Is there a site where I can find latest version apk files of atleast free apps? ??

Had to do a factory reset since I arrived in Saudi and lost my Skype instalation. Yea I know I should have backed it up!!!
The problem is that I cant find a download or install file any more. Think it may be something to do with my current location. All I get invalid or non-exiatant files and redirects back to Skype.
Could someone please just email me the download so I can get my Skype back?

How can you lose an app which is already installed?
Also the android market changes depending on where you are (location detected via sim card).
You can download applanet (google it, sign up for the site, download app from forum, install app) to get access to skype if you require. I know applanet is frowned upon on, on these forums but for us people from Middle East at times it is the only way to get access to apps.
Or try Market Enabler. It fakes your location for the Market and makes pretty much every app available in the Market.

Thanks guys!
Havent rooted my tab yet so will try applanet first.
Applanet is ok except the Skype apps there were not the one I had before. The MarketEnabler though is great now I have access to just about anything on the market.
Thanks again for your help!
hmmm been trying to use it ever since install and issues, issues, issues.
Freezes, force closes, incoming cals can be answered but no sound.
Is all this normal??? I didnt have the same issues before!

It is working OK with SE X10. However, neither check-in nor buzz is available in China. We have to wait for the unlocked version
Is this brut mode?
i've got blank (white) screens on checkins etc.
It's very annoying that you have to create your cache all over again every update.
Thx. for posting the apks, Google has something against letting update the Xperia Arc with them via the Market.

They also have something against HTC Desire and Cosmote Romania. I have Google Maps 5.1 installed from a third party source and it works just fine! When I go to the Market on the PC, it says This item is not available for your carrier. On the phone, it isn't displayed at all and I don't want to use Market Access. Eventually, I have installed GM 5.3 from enuazeal. Thanks.

In Estonia we have the same problem - some applications/updates are not available via market.
If you still want to use the market:
Root and use market enabler
or
Get a SIM from a country that is "good enough" in Google's eyes
My Arc is from Germany, free of any lock or branding, why it would refuse to show it I have no idea.
But the install from apk went on just fine.

However it doesn't work here in Syria, I believe Google checks the IP as well
Well my excitement for this app has improved!! I'm originally from Seattle, but I'm over here in Abu Dhabi visiting my GF for about 3 weeks, and for once my GPS can finally locate me! Granted, I have to keep the phone in Airplane Mode and the GPS icon keeps doing it's little flashing (aka no lock), but at least it's showing me on the correct intersection. I have yet to see what happens if I go outside onto a completely different block, but it's progress. Now only if there was a way to make the maps actually preload onto the phone and I could use GPS outside of the houses' WiFi so I can drive around town w/o getting lost.
She has a Captivate that I've rooted and she has installed a Du (one of their cellphone providers over here) SIM card into her phone so she can make calls, but she doesn't have a data plan. I'm going to update her phone to this version of Maps and see if her GPS acts better and/or can at least locate her based on cell tower location.
is brut mode?
I'm still running 5.0. Besides the checkin's and dashboard option, is this update really worth installing?
Are you serious? Its free!!!!

Just because something is free doesn't make it good. I've found many android app updates not worth updating to because either something is broken, drastically changed, or more useless.

Thank you for the download
Hi,
how does the offline availability work? I plan to go on vecation next month and I would like to use maps navigation but I do not have any contract in the US for data connection. Can I plan my route on it and connecting with wifi and it will download all the data needed so that I can drive just fine?
For some reason, I can not find certain apps in the Market like the Astro Key I purchased (mind you Astro app is installed), FiOS Mobile Remote, etc. Any suggestions?
Its because those apps are copy protected, and since the leaked RUU has a build unrecognized by google at this point, those protected apps are not going to show. So unless thats the offical OTA build, those apps will never show because google has to change the market to show copy protected apps for every official build of every phone. So if that software is final, they will eventually show up, if its not, they never will, unless you root your phone and change the build string

Wow interesting I have the leaked ruu and can still see these apps in the market. Op just send an email over to Google and they will help you out don't listen to this guy. For about 6 hours yesterday I couldn't download anything (got a download unsuccessful error) emailed the market team and got a response back helping me out.

I see all the purchased apps as well including the astro pro key and it shows installed..
It's the strangest thing really. Everything else I can download except for those two apps. I will contact Google for help. Thank you everyone.
P.S. I never had this issue when I installed a leaked RUU on my Incredible except from going to Froyo from Eclair.
Agreed. Astro Key is definitely there and I running the leaked RUU.
+1 - Astro Key and FIOS Mobile Remote with leaked radio...
I'll tell you I'm fed up with EA mobile... I purchased two of their apps when I was on T-mobile... And if I'm using any device that's not on Verizon (ie T-mobile, at&t, or Sprint) the apps will show. But on any device on the Verizon network (I've tried the dinc and the TB) it wants you to buy them again. Sadly enough this is a known issue with EA mobile and they actually charge more for the same app on Verizon vs other providers. I wish there was a way to fix the issue myself as their support team has been playing dumb regarding this...

Check out the app called Market Enabler on the market. you can fake your carrier to T-Mobile for the android market.
I'll copy/paste from my issue on Google's tracker:
I have an Asus EEE Pad Transformer (TF101) with the latest update: HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511
When visiting the Market, I am only presented with Free apps in the Featured section of each category.
I can search for, and find, paid apps. However I cannot purchase them. It returns the following error: The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found.
I am able to purchase some of the apps with my Phone. I can either go to the web based market and purchase them for my T-Mobile HTC Vision, or I can do it on the phone itself. Then I can install those apps in my Asus Transformer.
However, I can't do this workaround with Honeycomb-only applications because I cannot buy them on the phone first.
I'm located in Puerto Rico. I talked to the guy that makes Reddita, and he said that his apps is setup to be available everywhere

Anyone else have a similar issue? If so, please star my issue on Google's tracker: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16845&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars

I'm still not sure if it's a location based problem or if it's related to something else. Like I said above, the guy from Reddita says that his app is configured to not discriminate by country. Also, he says that he has sold the app to other Transformer users before.
i was able to purchase apps the last time I checked which was after the 8.2.3.9 update

I would hope not. Unfortunately, so far my theory points towards a location restriction specific to Honeycomb devices.
No problems on my Transformer but a while back I had problems buying from my Adam. I went into my Google checkout account settings and just reentered the same credit card info and saved it. I was able to buy apps after that.

Thanks for the tip. Tried that (and adding a completely different CC) and it didn't work.
I can however buy apps for my other two devices (G2 and Nexus S).
I bought my Asus Transformer TF101 from Hong Kong, now live in Malaysia, both Malaysia and Hong Kong are in the list that can buy apps, but appear that i'm same with you.
Just can view apps, appear "The item that you request are not found" bla bla...
Free apps can be use. no problem, btw, i have a Motorola Xoom with me too, same issues. Sad.... duh....
somehow my android phone can purchase apps, i turn to my web page android market, and i noticed that, due to i have 5 device registered to my google account, i can buy apps for my phones, but not for my device that dont have "CARRIER" bound with it. This makes our wifi only device cant purchase apps.
i have mailed google about this issues, but nothing yet, dissapointed, hopes anyone get some solutions. thanks.
Market Enabler, available on the Android Market. Buy the paid version for better features.
I had the problem that I couldn't purchase apps that were offered in a different currency than US$ with my AmEx. I had to use a different credit card (VISA) and then it worked.
I have the same problem, it started yesterday. I'm from Puerto Rico.
Suddenly, the quantity of available apps is much less... I can't find Adobe apps, Angry Birds games, Taptu, none of the Google apps!!
When I go to "My Apps" it only shows those installed apps that are still available to search on the market, but the others are not (even if they are currently installed, were installed before)
If I enable the Hotspot on the HTC EVO and connect the TF to it via WiFi, after re-opening the market, it can see all apps as before, including those in "My Apps" section. This happens because the IP provided by Sprint is USA based. Also, if the TF gets connected to the local router, then the market apps availability gets downgraded again...
So, this appear to be a location based issue... but, how it's possible that all those high profile apps that were available just days ago now are not? I did a factory reset today for troubleshooting... and now can't install Adobe Flash and those apps mentioned above

Ya, market enabler, but, i have to get rooted, superuser, busybox in order to use that, right?
I would love just to only get rooted and continuing receive Asus OTA updates, can i?
I check and i found the is no way, please help.
Hi (Cant purchase apps in market)
Helo I am also from Puerto Rico Im currently using Samsung Galaxy i9000 (International version) Im currently facing with this error since some time now. I been looking on net since long ago day and night and nothing just crap and no answer from google. I tried froyo gingerbread and iCS version from Teamhacksung and nothing. I tried market enabler (both versions in market) i can see paid apps just well I can download the free apps just fine but in paid apps *the item you were attempting to purchase could not be found* Im getting piss off already before was working just fine.
Looking extensively on net i found this video http://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=13888035 ---->error sorry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDZtQWt_8TQ
Sorry is not in English but the guy is using something called Gae proxy that seems an alternative that let you buy the apps. Anyway, for me this no worked I tried several times and still it no let me buy the app or just the market no open. I tried via wifi/data plan (3g) and nothing. I did test with pal he has hero and career from usa and he can buy just fine. I tried with my boss who has Captive and Xoom both failed in market with the same error.
This is very disappointed situation that is taking too much already. I have several friends and ppl I know dropping android just because of that. If i keep having it I will do the same or keep forced to get pirated apps wich i no want.
Still waiting for any fix or google response.....
English not my primary language.
Market Enabler won't work on WiFi tablets

I can assure you that even if you're rooted and running non-stock ROM, Market Enabler will not help if you're on a wifi-only tablet. I've been trying to find a solution to this problem since the day I got my WiFi-only Transformer but to no avail. Without any development or hacking knowledge whatsoever, there's only so much that I can try.
What I've found out though is this. The wifi-only version appears to track your location differently than the 3G version such that Market Enabler won't work. I have tried VPN (either direct on device or sharing a VPN connection over WIFI, if that makes a difference at all...), I've tried some location spoofing apps. Force stopped the market app and cleared data and cache and trying the VPN and location spoofing again in various combos, unsuccessfully. Also tried turning off all location services. Tried Market Enabler of course and I have the paid version of that too.
What works though is if I'm in another country, and it's a market-supported country, I'd be able to purchase apps without doing anything extra. I can also buy apps through my phone which has Market Enabler working as intended and once purchased I can install the bought apps through the My Apps screen on my Transformer. This is my current workaround, but I'm still very much stuck when I need to buy tablet-only apps which I can't purchase from my phone. Similarly, I can buy apps from the android market website, but only those I can install to the phone and I won't be able to install direct to tablet unless it's a free app.
Note: I live in a non-market-supported country. I've had this problem since Honeycomb, and now I'm on ICS and also using the rebranded Google Play. This problem seems to apply to all WiFi-only tablets, not just the Asus Transformer.
The only reason why there doesn't seem to be much of an outcry on this is because people chiming in that they can buy apps when they live in a market-supported country, so people think the problem is solved.
Ok, so I wanted to try an app called Freedom, which allows you to get free in app purchases. To use this app, you also need to get Market Unlocker. I installed the two apps and ran them correctly. I tried them but then decided I didn't want them any more, so I uninstalled them (I had my region thing changed to Russia when I uninstalled).
After that, I tried to access the Play Store, but it just says "No connection". I reinstalled the Market Unlocker app and changed the regiom to some of the few I thought were my old one, but nothing worked.
This is a very annoying situation so if anyone knows how to fix this please reply.
Some other information that may be useful is:
- I am using a rooted Nexus 5
- I have a custom kernel (Franco Kernel)
- I'm running Android 4.2.2
- I am located in Scotland on ths Vodafone network.
Well, you will not get help here as XDA does not support piracy or warez related endeavors.
Take that elsewhere, posts and question like this get XDA in trouble and are not by the rules.
