Hi all,
Am a newbie to Android tablets/devices both in terms of hardware and software. So if my post is posted in the wrong thread or reposted pls pardon me. I just want to understand a few basics.
As you all may know, now the market is being flooded by those Chinese made Android tablets. And many of them looks good (at least on paper) and at a very good price. But the problem is most of the time when come to chinese goods, they don't usually do what they claims (if you know what i mean). and the best part most of the salesperson don't know anything about the products they are selling especially when comes to tech gadgets like the Android tablets.
So here i am seeking help from you gurus and hoping i can start my Android journey on the right step. Below are a few questions. Hope I can get answers (links to somewhere where i can read up or anything).
1. What are the conditions (CPU make, firmware, etc) to fulfill if i wan to upgrade/root/hack the original Android OS? Cos most of the chinese made tablets are running on Android 1.5. Hoping to be able to upgrade the OS whenever a newer one comes out. Like the latest 2.1 And be able to download new apps from the apps market.
2. Which CPU chip is better and what are the common CPU chips in the market now? I know there are the Rockchips, VIA, Telechips.
3. Can we tell what are the hardware (CPU make etc) and software (OS/firmware version, etc) that are being used in the device from the system setting or something?
4. I read somewhere that not all CPU chips can be upgraded to the latest OS. i.e. that any upgrade is determined by the CPU chip. Is it true?
5. As for custom ROM, is it also device dependable? Like is there a generic ROM for all devices?
For now these are the questions which are bugging me. Hope the gurus here can enlighten this Android newbie.
Sorry for the long winded post and thanks for any help.
Hmmm. Just check that it is upgradable to froyo and it has more than 500mhz cpu

if you are looking for a tablet just get an ipad. the android tablets i see floating around are just 1.5 or 1.6. even if you get a tablet that can do 2.2 (froyo)... i dont see how that can be any better than an ipad.
i just feel that 2.2 isnt meant to be in tablet form. if you can wait... wait for 3.0 before you decide. the main deterrent here is the maximum resolution for android (854 x 480 or something), and that the apps were made with phones in mind.
im very happy with my nexus one... i just cant imagine having a tablet running android as of the moment unless its very very cheap ($200 or so).
i for one will get an ipad next month. my nexus one with wifi tether + the basic wifi ipad will be gadget heaven. looking to get an ipad primarily for reading magazines (zinio) and comic books. android does not have zinio yet. the android comic viewer (ACV) i use on my nexus is ok... but not great. then theres the games. games on android are still so so with less variety and choices.
as a phone the android is great! better than the iphone (yes im an apple user through and through) even. but as a tablet... not quite yet.
Hp is going to release a tablet so is samsung with 2.2

Hopefully start seeing some of these 2.2 tablets in the 3rd Quarter...
Greetings,
While I been a tech for 20years supporting the WinTel systems, I am a noob to Android and ROM programming. I needed to be portable, and being unemployed didn't leave many cost-options available. I picked up a China knockoff called the MID M9000 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/330779120701?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649).
What I can confirm on it is that it does run a Cortex A8 (I guess that means it is a AllWinner A10??) running Android ICS 4.04. A look under About Tablet shows Model Number F900, Baseband Version 1.4rc3 Kernel 3.0.8 [email protected] #2 Fir Jul 27 10:27:12 CST 2012 Build Number 20120716-F900.I have some flakiness with the screen, the performance seems poor with alot of waits and do I want to kill the app. I have gone through with Android Assistance and Advanced Task Manager to kill off any background apps, loads, etc. Still no luck.
Funny thing someone dumped in my lap a cheapy Sylvania SYNET7WIC 7" Smartbook with Windows CE 7 this past week. I searched and found you could bootload MODROID (Android 2.2 mod) ROM and I get more responsiveness on that WM8650 CPU than I am getting from this Cortex A8. So I am hoping it is just a bad build, and like the SYNET7WIC be happily surprised with a Mod for my Cortex A8 to improve it as well.
I tried over at CM, but there seems to be no discussion about MID tablets. I found the Christian Troy AllWinner A10 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821398) but as I am not a DEV, I can't post to that thread to ask for help. All feedback or assistance is welcome, especially pointing to the right ROM and other parts I should use (I believe I have the right instructions) on how to do my first reimage to Jelly Bean. Thanks!
This seems to be a F900 tab

I think this is a f900 generic chinese tab and a replica of this one http://temtop.en.alibaba.com/produc...13_1_5GHz_Cortex_A8_800_X_480_9_Inch_MID.html
I have the same tab and I was finding it hard to get a stable ROM to replace my factory ROM which had much more serious issues. I used this one on my tab and its been running much better now.
http://www.azhuo.net/en/products_F9...Capacitive_Android_4.0_Tablet_PC_Upgrade.html
Please note I still face issues with slowness and I need to reboot my tab everytime I play a resource intensive app/ game. I think its more to do with the hardware than with the firmware.

Recently purchased a similar tablet from http://www.agptek.com/New-Android-4.0-MID-7-inch-Capacitive-TouchScreen-Tablet-458-96-1.html. I flashed Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 for many AllWinner A10 tablets with the MOMO9 compatibility zip; as the MOMO9 specs are identical to my tablet. Running very smooth, alot faster and more stable than the original ICS 4.0.3.
Where did yuo download the rom flash from? How has it been working for you? Are you still running it on 4.0.3, or are you on 4.0.4 now? I just got a Mid M9000 and kinda regretting it now, but if I can flash it, to a better rom, that would be awesome.
Thanks
Tim
MaiPan
Howdy,
Actually I scored instead MaiPan MX913 img file at Maipad dot net . I was reading some reviews because this is a a single core device, and they are now pushing out quad core tablets now, because any attempt with this chipset to do Jelly Bean results in the touch screen stop responding (I have tried three or four already). I think also the problem is how 'low end' the single core is, and is why they are dumping these like crazy.
I have actually seen quite a few posts that some still don't get good ICS response no matter the img file, and so regress back to Froyo with alot of positive results. I dunno if there is a patch with the Froyo to compensate for the changes to Adobe Flash and now the Java scripting changes, if your still not happy with the results from MaiPan.
I was going to sell mine on ebay, but now I might give it a try with the December img at MaiPan and seems to be pretty snappy, but won't replace my laptop where I can open several web pages at the same time I think. I will let you know how the latest image works as I am intending to test this weekend.

Don't waste your time... I downloaded the 12.1 version of the MX913 (not DC), and now have no touch screen response...
Think I'll try the A10 AllWinner and see if that works.
Thanks

Now I have tablet that boots up with NO touch screen... since I tried the MX913 firmware, I've lost screen responsiveness. I suggest to everyone NOT to buy any tablets from NoMoreRack.com. Their customer service sucks and their tablets are all cheap crap... I think I learned my lesson!

Which one saved it? I really don't want to **** around another month with nomorerack.com to send this unit back and get another POS... So, if you could let me know tonight or tomorrow which firmware you used, that would be awesome.
Thanks

Wow. Yes. Maybe. Here is my sad story with a rare happy ending:
I ordered a MID9000 from No More Racks--BIG MISTAKE!--When, a couple of months later, it finally arrived (to my surprise), I set it up and was delighted to find that it actually worked. Up until.....5 weeks later, I left it on the charger overnight and that killed it. It appears these units are susceptible to overcharging. It would not boot past the "android" screen. Well, being an android noob, I was clueless. I finally discovered the Kocaso site that had downloads for the image files. It is here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link). However, the software that they recommend for installing the firmware did not work on my Windows 7 unit. Further search brought me here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link but it is on the Tablet Mods site), which clearly explained how to download and use LiveSuit to install firmware from a PC to an android tablet. And so. Back to the mymidpad firmware page! If you check the m9000 firmware, there are 4 possibilities. It says to check your serial number on the back to determine which one to use. Woe is me--my m9000 had no serial number. What the heck did I have? And so, I tried all 4 possibilities. NONE of them worked. They all installed OK, but the touchscreen would not respond. At that point, I was ready to throw the machine in the garbage. But one last chance: I tried to install one of the images given for the M9100 (M9100f), and to my shock, it worked like a charm and my machine is working better than ever. Go figure! I suspect that my M9000 actually is a M9100, at least in part. Who knows. I'm happy, for the time being. The moral is: be careful you don't overcharge these units!
my problem is that the touch stopped working ...
hey I have the same problem and I can not fix !!!! I have the same model. please help !!!!
Hi Guys,
I purchased 3 tablets over the last year and they were all supposedly "NATPC X210" tablets from the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AKYZ6R
The first was sold by: BE Tablets and the "About tablet" looks like: http://i.imgur.com/4zBFegd.png We'll call this Tablet 1 for £88.04 on the 10 February 2014
The second was sold by: Tablet Traders and the "About tablet" looks like: http://i.imgur.com/qmu9wPj.png We'll call this Tablet 2 for £89.99 on the 14 February 2014
The third was sold by: GadetsFair and the "About tablet" looks like: http://i.imgur.com/0UHC4pH.jpg We'll call this Tablet 3 for £62.95 on the 18 June 2014
Tablet 1 and Tablet 2 look identical in terms of physical appearance, tablet 3 looks nearly identical with the exception of it only has 1 MicroUSB port where as the other two tablets have 2 MicroUSB ports.
I've been looking around I've managed to work out that Tablet 3 appears to be a Crypto Novapad S104. Firstly, I could do with some help properly identifying the tablets because they definitely aren't all NATPC X210 tablets.
TABLET 1 and 2 Downsides:
- Both tablets came WITHOUT root (I want root!)
- Both tablets came with different firmwares so there is no consistency between them.
- Both tablets have issues finding certain apps on the Play Store...
- Both tablets have different pre-installed apps
- Both tablets have different appearances (See: http://i.imgur.com/eckPZpJ.jpg)
- Both tablets have different soft-key layouts. (See: http://i.imgur.com/eckPZpJ.jpg)
- Both tablets have an update checker but the update checker fails to work.
- Both tablets show the mobile signal signal strength as no signal (the tablet doesn't have any phone support so it should be disabled. (See: http://i.imgur.com/eckPZpJ.jpg)
- Both tablets have an ugly looking options drop down (top right) (wrong dpi or something) (See: http://i.imgur.com/eckPZpJ.jpg)
TABLET 1 and 2 Ups:
- Has two MicroUSB ports
Tablet 3 Downsides:
- Has one MicroUSB port.
- Has no update checker.
Tablet 3 Ups:
- Comes with root (However, I contacted CryptoTablets and they said that they don't come with root, he might have got it wrong I don't know.)
- Can access all of the apps on the Android store (as far as I can find)
- Has Ethernet support in Settings. (See: http://imgur.com/Bqz4Mdh)
- Has a much more refined UI with the dpi's set correctly.(top right looks much better) (See: http://imgur.com/Bqz4Mdh)
- Has a better softkey layout (See: http://imgur.com/Bqz4Mdh)
- Has a no mobile network signal, disabled because it doesn't support phone networks. (See: http://imgur.com/Bqz4Mdh)
I e-mailed CryptoTablets to try and get the firmware zipfile from them so that I could flash the same ROM that's on Tablet 3 onto Tablet 1 and Tablet 2 but they said "Our tablets are not rooted and any updates are performed in our service center, You need to send the device to us." which is obviously not acceptable for me :/
Secondly I want them all to have the same ROM on them WITH root... does anyone know if there are any custom ROMS out there that could be used?
I could really do with some help with them :/
Hi,
I suggest you ask here for help,
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
And unless they are indeed the same models... If there are roms, you won't be able to use the same rom. You need to only flash roms made for each specific device, or you could be in real trouble.
Good luck!

Hi,
I am a amateur android developer. Now days I'm testing my applications with android emulator. I'm going to buy Lenovo A316i for testing. Just for testing only not for day to day usage. So I don't care about battery life and camera. My question is am I able develop applications with this phone. I'm afraid because if this phone not support for android SDK then this is useless.
As long as it is an android smartphone (with the android OS above that of the minimum android version of your apps) that you are using it should work but I would check up on that just in case.
Hi everybody,
currently I am using Android 4 (OMNI) on my Wave S8500 next to Bada (still using Bada sometimes since I ve got the livelong version of Route66).
I appriaciate the possibility to have both OS installed and ready for usage in parallal but I appreciate even more the usage of Android OS from SD card instead of internal memory since it is way faster!
Unfortunately the accu capacity when running on Android is only 1 to 2 days while compared with Bada 2.0 and similar usage pattern it lasts one entire week! (What a pitty that samsung did not take any benefit from having such a promising OS together with such a volume of devices sold mobiles, TVs, tablets whatever.)
In addition I've random freezes quite unreproducable which makes using Android quite unreliable. But all in all I am quite satisfied and really deeply grateful that Android for my wave even exists! I need to use it above all for calendar synchronisation (and also whatsapp meanwhile).
No I came across the possibilities of having version 5 of android to be used on S8500. But I could not find any suitable answers which version to go?
The one described here in (dev-thread) seems to be still in some early stages. Something similar seems to be the case for this version while non-working parts are partly mentioned.
I also found this description but without any additional information!
Does anybody have any hint or idead or suggestion for which version to go or whether number 5 is still not mature enough to be used as daily standard?
What are your experiences or suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Bye
Hm, seems the upgrade/update links are all just for surveys! What a !xO%...
